The spaces between the trees look darker than Eddie’s ever noticed before. And, yeah, Eddie likes his dark corners, but there are no tales to spin or truths to find here. He knows what happens in these parts of the woods and he’s not a fan.
He pauses for one more moment, steeling himself, and then he steps into the thick of the trees.

“What do you think, Eds?”
Eddie looks confused by the question, until his eyes close in on the guitar pick sitting at the hollow of Steve’s throat. He looks much more alert after that, Adam's apple bobbing as he swallows. With a shaky exhale, he says, “it suits you.”
He was expecting a joke or witty comment, not sincerity, and it makes him pause. He takes in the deepening blush high on Eddie’s cheeks, the fist clenching around his jean-clad thigh, the way he can’t tear his eyes away from Steve’s neck.
He decides right then that he’s never taking off the necklace.

Eddie tips his head up to the sky, “what are your thoughts on alternate realities?”
“Can’t say I have many thoughts about them,” Steve says.
“You don’t think they’re real?”
“I’m not even sure this one is real to be honest,” Steve smiles, like sometimes he wishes it wasn’t. “Why? You believe in them?”
He pauses.
It’s not that he believes in them, he just wants something fleshier than theory to hold onto.
“I’m open to them.”

Caroline felt herself chuckle at the fact here she is near her death. Death is a word that no one wants to hear because it brings agony and misery. How can someone be present one minute and gone the next? How tragic that life is so brief. A feeling that your soul is being slowly drained out of you. Caroline cannot help but believe that death is not as horrible as it appears. Yes, death may be horrible, and some people are taken away far too young, never having the chance to live a complete life, but Caroline couldn't help but be grateful. As she felt at ease with herself.
