Peter really ought to have known he was in trouble when El and Neal met.

one of my favorite things about El is that she comes off like the sensible oh honey wife but given half an excuse she is exactly as likely as any hardened thief to break into the neighbor's upstairs room and then need to be coached through picking the locked door by Neal . and then they sit there on the couch together while Peter goes lecture mode and defend each other indignantly and they have been like this since the very first episode when he comes downstairs and they both look up bigeyes at him like hiiiiiii . she's not Neal But Woman though she's many things he absolutely isn't but not one of them is Too Sensible Mom Friend . she is tolerant but not naive, she looks not at the letter of actions but at the intent behind them and always factors that in, and she IS ready to go on a con at a moment's notice because running an apparently very prosperous event business isn't introducing enough complexity into her life

Okay, but Neal Caffrey, in 2009:

He hears the douche Brad (cause of course his name is Brad) make gross comments about women, and even when his job is literally to ingratiate himself to him, he does not laugh at or with his comments, and I don't know. So many shows age poorly specifically around small things like that, but sometimes they surprise you, that men actually knew how to behave even back then

One thing White Collar gets absolutely right and very few other shows do, is that people React to guns.

The reaction varies, depending on their level of training/comfort with firearms, but there's no cool guy bravado* when someone pulls a gun, especially not from Neal. When he sees a gun he always always always reacts like things just got very serious, this is no longer fun and games.

And you know what? Yes please. It also ups the stakes for us when a character reacts to someone pulling a gun on them, and it's also highly realistic. I just really appreciate it that guns aren't a prop to signify "antagonist" but a weapon that should and does elicit fear.

* except for when Kate pulled a gun on Peter, and even then his reaction was warranted.

Can someone explain to me what connects White Collar's Neal Caffrey to Dick Grayson?

I mean, I see a lot of fanfiction where they say Neal is Dick and I don't understand why.

So if there is an explanation, I welcome it.
