Heed the Herder AU Ramble/Rant Incoming

The more that I been draw characters like Jonah, Evelin, and Adam, I get a better feel for them as individuals. Like, I remember doing the reference drawing thingy for Evelin and actually figuring out what I want to do for her arc in my AU specifically, same with the other two (Jonah to a greater extent).

I think it’s the process of doing something with my hands but allowing my brain to wander on one topic that really gets the creativity flowing through me.

But back to what I wanted to talk about: Heed the Herder (HtH) Jonah; I’ve been drawing this guy a lot lately and realized there’s more depth to his character the more that I think about him — at least in my AU.

HtH!Jonah a character who experienced multiple traumatic events in his childhood and actively attempts to disassociate himself from the situation in the most unhealthy way possible (pretending the situation never happened and that everything is normal).

Jonah finds it hard to trust and connect to people as easily as he used to as a kid before everything happened. He’s a character that consistently hides his emotions and feelings because (deep down) he’s terrified they’ll be used against him. In story, it takes Jonah a long-ass time before he learns to let his walls down and accept help from others. He’s scared of emotional vulnerability and the thought of one day losing the thing most important to him: freedom.

Heed the Herder Jonah is an apathetic and aloof, yet friendly character who doesn’t want to accept what happened in his past because he’ll have to come to terms with the fact that he can’t do everything alone.

I’m just gonna use this plat to ramble about my AU incessantly from now on becos this is the site that I’m most comfortable doing stuff like this

A couple drawings I did over the past few days, the two Jonah ones were made primarily in response to getting selected for the 2023 Jonah Brawl on Twitter. I did lovely little Collab with my opponent Ani, creator of Blankdela, (@ComyetAni on Twitter) and had a really cool time, go give them a follow or something if you can!!

Aside from pure HtH!Jonah brainrot, I’ve been thinking about HtH!Mark again and writing him some more since I’ve been neglecting him in favor of the BPS crew this past while, so I’m making up for it now a little.

Might go on another Heed the Herder related rant again but this time abt the mechanics of Alternates in the AU just bcos I can and how they function within the story somewhat but yeah, keep an eye out for that lol

The only lore I could come up with for the shitpost existing is that Mark doesn’t know Null is still around and is really confused as to why someone is writing 2017 art commentary channel level rants in his personal journal

Also, the reason why there is a reverb sound applied over the audio is because Mark is mute in this AU, and this is a sort of internal dialogue situation jsyk

Anyway enjoy ig sorry for dropping y’all for a while, the last week of school mentally drained me and I’ve been struggling with motivation so yeah

The bug Alternate is called Alias and the cabinet man is called NeAL (because yes)

The characters from left to right (top to bottom) in the fourth image are: Mark, Cesar, Sarah, Adam, Evelin, Jonah, Null (prototype), Null, and Don (OC)!

I’ll try to post more regularly but I make no promises

Null - The most annoying brain-roommate one could possibly ask for!

Finally made a reference sheet for this scrimblo after two years or so of just not having one. Really happy with how it came out :)
