The lost name
I think Vanitas’s real name could be Deucalion.
In this text I’ll cover my reasons for choosing this name, its connection to the story of Noah and the myth of Pandora and how would it correlate with the relationship of Vanitas and Noé.
Posting this as an actual answer to @scar-eyejolteon14 as promised here.
The lore of Deucalion
It all started when I was wondering what kind of name I could give Vani if I were to draw him as a Chasseur (ordinary human, who’ve never met Luna and never inherited their name). I began with the most obvious thing: checking Vani’s wiki page for existing details and references. I went with his zodiak sign, Aquarius, as the staring point, because stars and celestial bodies are recurring theme in VnC and well why not?..
The next obvious place to go is wiki page for Aquarius. Here we come across a fun thing: Babylonian star catalogues. They contained lists of stars, constellations, and planets.
I found the first picture on a somewhat strange website, but whatever. This is a fragment of a circular star calendar, which belonged to the library of King Ashurbanipal (668-627 BC) in Nineveh. The second picture is a star list, found in Uruk (320-150 BC). It had information on all constellations such as names, number of stars, their distance, etc. Just so we understand that astronomy was a big deal there.
And yes, the capital of Babylonia was Babel — that one city with the tower (The Book of Genesis, Genesis 11) which is referenced in VnC.

What did Babylonian astronomers think of Aquarius? Well, they associated this constellation with the Ea. “The Great One” is his title. He’s also known as Enki, god of magic, fertility, creation, etc., who was originally a water god (and his temple name E-apsu means “house of the watery deep", idk I think it sounds really cool). The water theme is not random: Aquarius was also associated with floods. Water was sacred, but also deadly: floods were source of destruction.
Later, a Latin author Gaius Julius Hyginus quoted an Alexandrian historian Hegesianax that Deucalion is to be identified with Aquarius, "because during his reign such quantities of water poured from the sky that the great Flood resulted." Again, we see the idea of destructive flood. But where does Deucalion bring us? To Noah. Or Noé, if you will.

Deucalion and Noah
Both Deucalion and Noah are central figures of the classical flood myth, which exists in various cultures. While these two are probably among the most popular figures, there are other examples, including Utnapishtim, who was warned by the god Ea (who also created humans among other things) about the flood and instructs him to build a boat and save his family and animals. The stories of Deucalion and Noah follow the same pattern with some minor variations. But Deucalion is the one who is associated with Aquarius, the constellation that symbolizes the coming of the flood and all its terrors, while Noah/Noé is associated with salvation of human race and all living things.

Deucalion and Pandora
What’s interesting, Deucalion’s myth is directly related to Pandora’s myth. Deucalion is usually described as the son of Prometheus, while Deucalion’s wife Pyrrha was the daughter of Pandora. And Pandora’s myth is among the core themes of “Pandora hearts”. If we consider the possibility of VnC and PH’s universes being connected, the idea of Deucalion being Vani’s true name would also make sense… For example, this theory covers the topic.

Right – Deucalion and Pyrrha, 1636–1637, by Rubens. This painting shows a scene from the story of Deucalion and Pyrrha as told by Ovid in Metamorphoses. After surviving the disaster, they had to throw stones over their shoulders, each of which became a new human being.
Even if worlds of Pandora Hearts and Vanitas no Carte don’t exist in the same universe, there clearly is thematical relation between the two stories, one being about hope and another about despair. What’s even more interesting, there was actually a whole discourse about what’s hidden in Pandora’s jar: is it true hope or is it actually an illusion of salvation which hurts even more than actual despair? The translation of the word elpis, the spirit of hope in the jar, is actually neutral in its meaning. It’s simply “hope”, not inherently “good” or “bad”, which leaves a lot of space for interpretation in media.
Vanitas and Noé
Volume 3 cover implies that Vanitas will be marked by an Archiviste. It’s unknown whether this Archiviste would ne Noé or Machina or even some other. I hope it’s gonna be Noé, because it would break a specific border between them and it will definitely be very dramatic, but Machina might do it for the sake of obtaining information, which is her main thing. Anyway, regardless of who does this, when and why, I believe that this moment is probably the real possibility for revealing the true name of Vanitas.
On a side note, it would also be kinda interesting if Noé gets to know Vani’s true name, but it will still be hidden from us, the readers. There’s is also a possibility that Vani’s true name will not be revealed even in this situation. His goal is to erase everything related to the Vampire of the Blue Moon, and I guess that would mean erasing everything about himself too. But in Ch1 he promises to stay here even after he is gone, so it might imply that at least someone will get to remember him — perhaps as Xxxx the human, not Vanitas, kin of the Blue Moon. Which might mean going against Luna’s request…

And, well, Xxxx could de Deucalion. Just think about it: wouldn’t it be cool if both Vani and Noé were given names with similar symbolism behind it and later both assume the moniker of Vanitas?
Plus the whole “loop” thing, like “memory loop” theory and “time loop theory” (here and here) again adds to the idea of connection between them. The loop where ends and beginnings melt into each other, like Ouroboros eating its own tail. The loop between Vanitas and Noé, where they will have to understand pointlessness and hopefulness of life – and what does in mean to save and be saved.
The ultimate hope of survival becomes fleeting dream for all caught in this loop. But every dream is destined to end, as pointed by Saint Germain. And what will happen, when Vanitas and Noé will have to wake up from the dream of their own? What will prevail - death and futility of life or salvation and rebirth?

A ctivities - What do they like to do with their s/o? How do they spend their free time with them?
Usually you go to 'hunt' vampires to be treated withVanitas and Noè
In your free time you two go and visit beautiful places together tasting the typical dishes every now and then Noè will come to make the third wheel
B eauty - What do they admire about their s/o? What do they think is beautiful about them?
He loves everything about you but the thing that physically prefers are your eyes
He just loves to get lost in them and remember that these beautiful eyes belong to his better half
C omfort - How would they help their s/o when they feel down/have a panic attack etc.?
I have the hc that Vanitas, because of his past, often suffers from panic attacks so in his own way he would know well how to behave.
He’ll wait until you’re ready to talk and look him in the eye.
If you can’t, he understands it perfectly.
Without speaking, he will put a blanket on your shoulders and prepare you a tea that will leave near you that will serve to calm down.
D reams - How do they picture their future with their s/o?
He will never admit it but he has already made a lot of mental movies about your future life together: He will be a world-famous doctor in the world of vampires, you will be his beautiful, intelligent and lovable wife and together you will have two children, a male and a female.
... yeah, we can say that he has a lively imagination
E qual - Are they the dominant one in the relationship, or rather passive?
Dominant, he loves to annoy you and 'ruin' your day with his horrible jokes, maybe sometime he would even say dirty jokes😇
BUT If you get tired of his dirty and not dirty jokes and you can respond properly, you can see his cheeks blush and see Vanitas that becomes a lovely tsundere
F ight - Would they be easy to forgive their s/o? How are they fighting?
Usually you two never fight except for bullshit and therefore are useless quarrels that end in one/two minutes.
But if the fight is serious... it’s gonna be a little messy.
If it’s his fault, surely Noè can reason with him in one way or another.
If it’s your fault, it depends on your character!
But once you apologize to him ( and if it wasn’t particularly bad) he will forgive you after an hour or two and you will be back to being the usual couple.
If it’s serious, it’ll take a while, maybe a month or two, but don’t worry, he’ll take care of you without being noticed
G ratitude - How grateful are they in general? Are they aware of what their s/o is doing for them?
He’s grateful, but his pride will never allow him to admit it in front of everyone.
But I’m sure he’ll tell you when you two are alone at a special time or when you’re asleep.
H onesty - Do they have secrets they hide from their s/o? Or do they share everything?
He has few secrets he hides from you.
But these few are the worst, they all talk about his past and he’s afraid that if you found out, you might not love him anymore and leave him.
I nspiration - Did their s/o change them somehow, or the other way around? Like trying out new things or helped them overcome personal problems?

J ealousy - Do they get jealous easily? How do they deal with it?
Yeah. Yeah, he does.
He gets jealous when someone gets close to you and you don’t have a problem with it.
If that person is someone you both know, then he’s going to start a 'comedy show' about how he can’t be that close to you.
If it’s someone he don’t know then he’ll come up to you, put your hand on your side and say:"heyy baby! how are y-.. oh? who are you? a friend of y/n? Ohh i get it, well nice to meet you, i’m their boyfriend Vanitas." accentuating heavily the 'their boyfriend'.
K iss - Are they a good kisser? What was the first kiss like?
we all saw how he kissed Jeanne, right?
Yes, yes, yes and yes. I allready said yes? Vanitas has a natural talent for being good at kissing.
Your first kiss with Vanitas was natural and not forced at all, it was very soft and with a touch of malice which made everything perfect.
L ove Confession - How would they confess to their s/o?
His confession was... a little peculiar.
He confessed after a life-or-death situation in which you were very close to death.
He was really afraid of losing you, so as soon as you recovered he took courage and confessed to you as the sun went down leaving room for the beautiful blue moon.
M arriage - Do they want to get married? How do they propose? What would the marriage be like?
Of course he does, he wants to be with you all his life (as I said earlier, he has made many mental movies about it).
He’d probably propose with a nice silver ring with a sapphire set.
Oh Lord, on the night of the proposal he would be so nervous and embarrassed.
He took you out on the terrace of a beautiful restaurant, and my God, you could easily see that that night he blushed for the least.
Obviously Noè and Dominique will be disguised as waiters to check that vanitas doesn’t mess up
At the end of the dinner, while you were on the balcony admiring the full moon, he knelt down, his face completely red (he is not used to these things, poor dear) and finally he will propose to you.
"W-Will you marry me, y/n."
You will say your yes and only then you will see the whole crowd (Noè, Dominique, Jeanne, Dante, Johann, Riche, Oliver and Roland) applauding and shouting with joy putting both of you embarrassed.
N icknames - What do they call their s/o?
“Princess/prince” “my girl/boy” and somethime even “my love”
O n Cloud Nine - What are they like when they are in love? Is it obvious for others? How do they express their feelings?
He has never experienced love in his life, so this strong feeling leaves him a little stunned.

He was so stunned that for a while he tried to avoid you in every way, he tried to oppress the desire to see you and be close to you.
At first you thought you had done something wrong, it was a huge relief for you when Noè said that vanitas was trying to avoid you 'just' because he had such a great love for you that he didn’t know how to behave.
Slowly Vanitas became accustomed to this feeling, to the point where he could not do without it.
he was always clinging to you and one way or another you always ended up having dinner or lunch together. He just can’t help loving you.
P DA - Are they upfront about their relationship? Do they brag with their s/o in front of others? Or are they rather shy to kiss etc. when others are watching?
He has no problem showing you to others, on the contrary, he boasts of having the best s/o in the world

Usually when you’re with other people it’s more flirty than romantic.
But when you two are alone, you’ll have a pampering-thirsty Vanitas that’s sticking to you 24-7

Maybe even more than it should be!

In his own way, he’s empathetic and very understanding.
He’s a little childish, but he knows when to be serious, and he would never allow himself to hurt you.
V alue - How important is the relationship to them? What is it’s worth in comparison to other things in their life?
is very important. He needs to be with you, he have to be with you.
You’ve unlocked emotions he’s never felt before.. You made him feel the feeling that is called love. You are, his love.

Yes, as already mentioned many times he thought of your future wedding with him many times, imagine how you would look beautiful with a wedding dress.
Surely, he would like to have a family with you. A new chapter in his life with you.
He wants and will always be at your side even if sometimes he needs to be alone.

Guys but what if Vanitas and Noé did meet when they were kids? People have brought up the possibility that Noe’s kidnappers were part of the travelling circus Vanitas grew up in. I know it’s said Noé was taken to the vampire world. But to be fair, Louis makes that assumption and Noé kinda just nods ahead. So I’m taking that with a grain of salt and narrator Noé ain’t telling or confirming shit.
But you know why I’m starting to believe this?
Remember how Vanitas acted towards Noé in chapter/episode 1. We know Noé is the one who insisted on staying with Vanitas till the end. But we need to remember Vanitas asked Noé to join him first. Why would Vanitas ask him that???
Vanitas the lone wolf, Vanitas “I hate everyone equally”, Vanitas “it’s my way or the highway”?? He hired Dante and while I think their relationship is more complicated. In Gevaudan he was fully ready to cut him off until Johann went sicko mode. It’s not that Vanitas is recruiting vampires for his cause. We never see him ask any other vampire to join him.
And Vanitas, while it’s hard to tell how much was façade, he was getting all close and sort of flirtatious with Noé. Until he found out he’s an Archiviste and was forced to keep some distance. The “are you interested in kisses” line was right after they fought Jeanne. I don’t think he knew yet. And there’s little moments where he is genuinely glad of Noe’s company. It’s starts to be contradictory when he starts refusing Noe’s help bc he wants to protect him.
But he wanted to be around Noé.
And when the Archiviste thing is revealed, obviously we know from his promise and self-hypnosis pact we can’t have Noé sucking his blood. But his reaction to this news felt less like fear and more so disappointment. As if this revelation ruined something. So I’m starting to think Noé doesn’t remember Vanitas at all. But Vanitas remembers meeting a face like Noé, let’s assume 10 years ago. He didn’t know his name or that he’s an Archiviste. Maybe they had a heart to heart moment, before they could exchange names Noe disappeared. And maybe that was the same night his father was killed. Even for Vanitas standards, him asking Noé to lend his strength from day 1 makes no sense otherwise. There’s some connection there has to be.
weirdly specific trope i love is when a doctor or doctor-adjacent character with a ✨dark past✨ and ✨trauma✨ and who ✨believes themselves to be incapable of love✨ falls in love, usually with the sunshine character, and instead of thinking they are in love their first thought is that they have an illness, developed a "sudden and intense allergy" to the person they love, or were poisoned.
