Would it make me sound pretentious to say I think these reviewers didn’t really “get it”? I feel like they must’ve thought they were reading a different type of book. Also “reasons why I hate Cosette: she’s 17” AHAHA WHAT????? And all that stuff about Eponine, Eponine truly loved Marius, etc etc like…… it’s supposed to be sad. It’s supposed to be horribly sad. This is a story about suffering. It’s not a happy love story. Sure Marius and Cosette get married but Marius loses everyone else he loved and Cosette loses her father figure and she had a miserable childhood. Can we really blame them for trying to finding some happiness in each other? I kind of interpreted their rosy fantasy love as a sort of coping mechanism for them. Everything is miserable. That’s the point. It’s in the title. It would make perfect sense to me that one would cope with all that by focusing on budding romance, the one thing they do have left to bring them joy. It’s also super funny to complain about length of any given section. Bestie, you chose to read a book that’s almost 3,000 pages. If the massive bishop section bothered you, you should’ve put the book down and picked up an abridged version. My literature class read one when I was 13.

If I ever did play with dolls as a kid, I’d have elaborate storylines and adventures full of treachery. I much preferred animal figurines though. Many of my friends loved American Girl dolls. If you’re unfamiliar; these are LARGE dolls. 18in tall I think. And expensive too. I REALLY didn’t get the point of these dolls. They’re too big to properly play with and too expensive. You can’t plop them down in the garden and pretend they’re survivors of a plane crash lost in a jungle. I remember begging my mom to say no when I was invited to play American Girl doll tea party. Luckily it was mostly a phase and these girls went back to wanting to catch frogs and making up dramatic backstories for our Webkinz.

HIGHLY recommend The Last of Us. We’re only one episode deep and I’m absolutely BLOWN AWAY. This has to be one of if not THE most faithful adaptations I’ve ever seen. The prologue scenes are basically 1:1 with the video game. The actress playing Sarah even has the SAME T-SHIRT. The acting was astonishing and the SET DESIGN!! WOW! It looks exactly like the game, which is a good thing for a game praised so much for its visuals. I think they made absolutely excellent casting choices as far as both visuals and talent goes. Great dialogue. I literally have zero complaints so far and I’m SO excited to see more

I’ll be posting about it here so you can block the tags I used on this post if you want

What book are you currently reading?

I’m still on A Storm of Swords. I’m about 80% through it but I’m stalled because I’m reading using the kindle app on my phone but it’s been having this terrible “ghost touch” glitch that will constantly turn pages and close the app and stuff so I haven’t been able to read much.

What’s your favorite movie you saw in theaters this year?

I didn’t visit a theater in the past year actually.

What do you usually wear?

Gosh, it depends. Unfortunately because I’m a graduate student who does lab work almost every day including weekends, I don’t get to dress the way I want most days because it’s impractical for lab. When I have the chance, I like wearing skirts with fun tights or socks and belts with chains and lots of necklaces. Mostly black, white, red, pink, and grey. Alternative and e-girl esque. But I usually end up wearing black leggings, a t shirt, and a big sweater or sweatshirt over it. Today I’m wearing my sweatshirt I got from the When We Were Young music festival!

How tall are you?

5’2”/157.5cm

What your star sign? Do you share a birthday with a celebrity or a historical event?

I’m not really into astrology and I prefer not say. I really like the enneagram and to a lesser extent, MBTI (true MBTI that actually uses the 8 cognitive functions). I’m a 4w5 sx/so 451 and an INFJ. I don’t know of any celebrities or historical events that happened on my birthday.

Do you go by your full name or a nickname?

Full name irl but I don’t usually use it at all online.

Did you grow up to become what you wanted to be when you were a child?

Yeah, actually. I wanted to be a scientist. I bounced around a bit on what kind but I always wanted to study animals in some way and I did want to be a marine biologist multiple times and that’s what I am!

Are you in a relationship? If not, who is your crush if you have one?

I’d rather not say.

What’s something you’re good at vs. something you’re bad at?

Hmm how to choose… I am good at many things and bad at many things. I am talented as an artist but a dreadful singer.

Dogs or cats?

Oh I do love both, but I am a cat person at heart. I’m a very cat-like person so I feel a strong connection to them. I don’t have one right now because pets aren’t allowed in the unit I’m renting.

If you draw/write, or create in any way, what’s your favorite picture/favorite line etc. from something you created this year?

The corset and bolero for a gown I sewed! The lacy necklace was purchased though.

Tagged By @theblackqveen !! Thank You!!

What’s something you would like to create content for?

So many things.

What’s something you’re currently obsessed with?

Chainsaw Man!! I am so OBSESSED. I can’t seem to shut up about it.

What’s something you were excited about that turned out to be disappointing this year?

I bought a book that I thought was the source material for a movie I love, but it was actually a novelization of the movie.

What’s a hidden talent of yours?

I don’t hide my talents. It is unexpected I suppose that I’m an excellent skier because I’m not particularly athletic.

Are you religious?

No, but I wouldn’t call myself an atheist exactly. I don’t really have specific concrete beliefs. Just general feelings.

What’s something you wish to have at this moment?

A thunderstorm outside with heavy rain.

Not really comfortable tagging anyone else yet because I don’t have people I consistently interact with enough yet. But I’m always looking to make connections!

@theblackqveen thank you!! The gown is for a costume, not everyday wear. I didn’t expect it to turn out so nicely because I’ve never made something like this before but I’d always wanted to and envied cosplayers who could make elaborate gowns. But my new attitude from the past year or so is that whenever I envy someone’s talent, I remember that they probably put a TON of time and effort into honing their skill and that if I put in the same time and effort it, I could probably do it too, so why not try? It’s served me well so far (:

Will Graham and Jesse Pinkman are like the same to me. They’re on opposite sides of the Y axis but exact same X value if you know what I mean. Poorly adjusted <6ft king who develops a close and toxic relationship with an older man who is a genius mastermind and also very evil. Both fall for the manipulation of this man and end up with most of their relationships to other people destroyed as a result. The reach a point where their lives and egos revolve around their respective dark mentor. They hate him but they can’t live without him. I’m still watching the final season of BrBa so I don’t know how it will end but I wouldn’t be shocked at all if Jesse and Walt died together like Will and Hannibal. True that Jesse and Walt’s relationship is father-son as opposed to the explicit homoeroticism of Will and Hannibal but you see what I’m saying.

I Havent Finished The Last Season Of BrBa So I Cant Speak To That But Honestly I Dont Think Its Entirely

I haven’t finished the last season of BrBa so I can’t speak to that but honestly I don’t think it’s entirely accurate to say Will actually threw it all away completely because his moral compass still got in the way. Will could not overcome his inner conflict between the pull of Hannibal and the weight of his morality. He couldn’t live without Hannibal but he couldn’t live with himself if he followed Hannibal down his murderous path, so he chose to throw them both over that cliff. I guess it depends on what you believe about the after credit scene, which the creator deliberately left open to interpretation. I prefer to believe they both died, because I think it’s extremely poetic and carries so much emotional weight.

Also can’t believe I fucking missed the opportunity in the original post to point out that Walt and Hannibal both COOK

@dropdead-celebration Sorry Cant Answer In The Replies Because This Is My Sideblog And FAIR Although

@dropdead-celebration sorry can’t answer in the replies because this is my sideblog and FAIR although genius and mastermind are two separate descriptors. He is a genius with chemistry. He is a mastermind because he is out of his mind reckless and extremely lucky but I still award him the status because he ultimately outplayed Gus

Guess I’m making this post in this blog after my accidentally posting my last one here but I just watched the Todd in the Shadows video on Somerton and that combined with the hbg video make it so clear that Somerton is a misogynist. Todd says he can’t speculate about an agenda for James’s lies but I can!! It doesn’t account for all of them but his sexism is clearly driving some of these claims.

The way that many straight women treat gay men is atrocious. But are they more homophobic than straight men? No! Absolutely not! This publication from the UK reports that perpetrators of sexual orientation based hate crimes of all levels of severity are 82% male and that the more severe the crime, the greater the male dominance. However, these data from the US report that 95.7% of offenders committing hate crimes on the basis of sexual orientation and gender were male, although the sample size is more limited (N = 171) and with the caveat that this category includes anti-female attacks, which, of course, are going to have male perpetrators.

Actually, little tangent, the previous data set is weird.

Guess Im Making This Post In This Blog After My Accidentally Posting My Last One Here But I Just Watched

It’s kind of weird that the fact that the crimes were overwhelmingly committed by men isn’t commented on. It seems like this is hidden on purpose based on the fact that they use female as the characteristic instead of male. Then they don’t note this in the “significantly higher rates” panel even though being male is OVERWHELMINGLY the greatest predictive factor in committing a hate crime with dominances of 95.3% (sexual orientation, gender identity, gender), 93.3% (race, ethnicity, nationality), and 91.5% (religion). The next highest numbers (not including the “violent” characteristic because that’s a characteristic of the crime and not the offender) are for attaining a max level of education of high school or lower, and they’re 69.3%, 72.8%, and 53.3%. So why is the overwhelming male dominance not highlighted? In fact, the male dominance of offenders isn’t mentioned AT ALL in the document. I’d chalk this up the fact that most violent crime is committed by men but these data also include non-violent crime. Plus, these numbers are higher than the % male for general violent crime and for most specific categories of violent crime, save for sexual offenses. The exact numbers vary from year to year but this overview from 2012 (which is simply the first result that came up) indicates that 80.1% of arrestees for violent crime are male. For some reason the app isn’t letting me paste the link but the source is the FBI UCR (Uniform Crime Reporting) report on crime in the US in 2012, table 42. Like, hello? Rather low sample size nonwithstanding, if we take these data at face value, they tell us that men in the US are overwhelmingly more likely to commit hate crimes.

Anyway, this is supposed to be about James Somerton. Many of his lies involved things that he claims straight women do or did. Sometimes he even specifies white women, as if he is not a white man. He’s mad about the injustices gay men face and have faced throughout history, and rightfully so. But instead of going for the men who are actually violent, instead of talking about the actual ways straight women do perpetuate homophobia, he makes up straight women to direct his anger at. It seems as if the only times he does discuss real problems with straight women’s homophobia or the homophobia of straight men, he’s just plagiarizing! He could have just said that it makes him uncomfortable that there are straight women who write gay porn about Jeffrey Dahmer and left it at that! But he lied instead to make it seem more outrageous!! Aaahhhh!!!!

I have no interest in Helluva Boss and I don’t think it looks very… good…? But I watched Hazbin Hotel and actually really liked it. I know the creator has some controversies but it’s a fun cartoon. The character designs are really great (mostly. I think Husk is a mess). The voice acting is really great (special props to the VAs for Charlie and Angel Dust) and the music is too. I had my reservations about it being a musical at first and thought maybe I’d just skip the songs but I didn’t skip a single one. I especially loved Loser, Baby. I’m really excited to see where the story goes!! As the season neared the end I was worried the plot was moving too fast and had no idea where they’d go next but the end of the finale really sets up a great direction for the plot to move in. The animation is hot or miss. Sometimes it looks a bit… I don’t know how to say it. Not smooth or fluid. But there are a lot of really great sequences. I love it every time Charlie goes full demon. It’s a very visually pleasing sequence. And there’s a particular scene in the finale where Alastor is using his powers that was particularly well-done.

Overall I appreciate the tone of the show a lot. So many adult cartoons feel so self-loathing and need to be so edgy and tend to be comedy focused. I guess you could make the case that Hazbin is edgy since it’s literally set in hell and there’s lots of swearing but it’s not edgy like something like Velma. I actually cannot think of a single other adult cartoon that’s a musical unless it’s a parody and the show just has a lot of love put into it. I definitely recommend it.

I’m so emotional about dinosaur stuffed animals,,, there are these creatures, extinct long before any of us were alive, but we found their bones and their eggs and their footprints. And we made drawings and models of what they could’ve looked like. And we made them into stuffed animals so we could hold them. We made them soft so we could love them. I’m sobbing
