o’ heartless woman

chpt. 1: in which yoongi seeks his fortune

based on howl’s moving castle, the film by studio ghibli and the novel by diana wynne jones

O Heartless Woman

→ 🌟 pairing: ot7 x fem.mc

→ 🌿 genre: howl’s moving castle AU, slowburn (?), fluff, bit o’ angst, eventual smut

→ 🔥 word count: 5.3k

→ 🗝️ summary: yoongi did not ask to be hexed. he did not ask for you, a reclusive sorceress, to wander into his shop and take an interest in his work. he did not ask for a vengeful, jealous wizard to cast a spell on him, turning him into an old man, and he most definitely did not ask to stumble upon your magical moving castle and be coaxed into making a deal with a mischievous fire demon to save your soul. and above all, he most certainly, most definitely, did not ask to become attached to you along the way.

→ 🔮 content warnings: sorceress!mc, apprentice!jungkook, fire demon!hoseok, cursed!yoongi, wizard of the waste!jimin, profanity

→ 🕸️ a/n: first chapter! you don’t have to be familiar with howl’s moving castle to understand the story (but it’s an incredible film and novel so you should look into it anyways lol). some lines are direct/indirect quotes from the movie and novel, all credit goes to the original creators. please reblog and comment your thoughts 👉👈 keep the tumblr fanfic community alive and engage with writers pretty please!

The castle is restless today. Rolling hills and swaying grasses rush by through the bathroom window’s smudged panes, all blanketed by a thick layer of fog. You can even see a faint cluster of gable-roofed houses in the distance.

“Hoseok!” you call out, bounding down the stairs.

The face in the fireplace looks up at you with an expression of feigned shock.

“Yes?” he replies, playfully innocent, but the mischief in his voice sparks just like his flaming orange hair.

“Why are we so close to town? I told you to move the castle North.”

Hoseok just smiles that near-blinding smile, his teeth white hot flames in his mouth.

“Don’t you know? You have to go to Folding Valley today.”

Jimin's feelings for you, meanwhile, came a little more gradually. But when they finally did, they struck like a wave.

JANUARY 5, 2019.

When he first met you, his day had been nothing but cold.

He had used up his day-off to meet up with his girlfriend, Miyeon, expecting to end the day happy. But unfortunately for him, the universe seemed to have other plans.

"Let's break up." Miyeon blurted out, stopping in her steps.

Jimin chuckled, thinking she was joking, until he glanced to his right and met her serious eyes. His smile faded, quickly replaced by a confused frown.

"What?" Jimin said, hands buried into his pockets. "Miyeon-ah, what are you talking about?"

His girlfriend huffed and gazed straight at him, a frown forming on her face as well. "We barely even talk anymore, Jimin."

Jimin blinked, not knowing what to say. When Miyeon noticed, she let out a soft scoff.

"See? Even you can't deny it." She said, "This isn't a relationship, Jimin. I'm tired of always coming second to your job."

At the mention of his job, Jimin lets out a sigh. "Yeon, you know I can't do anything about that. It's my job." He said, "But, look—we can still make this work, okay? I-I'll try to talk to my manager—"

"It's no use, we both know you've tried to in the past." Miyeon responded, cutting him off. "Look, I'm just tired, okay? I can't do this anymore, Jimin. Not when I can't meet you as much as I want to, or when I can't even tell my friends that you exist." She explained, the tone in her voice growing softer.

Jimin's heart cracked upon hearing her words, taking his one of his hands out of his pockets to grasp hers. "B-But we've been together for almost a year, Yeon. We promised each other we wouldn't give up on this." He mumbled, voice cracking at the end.

But Miyeon, seemingly already decided, simply sighed and took her hand out of his. She held back her tears and put her hands back in her pockets. "Well, m-maybe we weren't meant to be together forever anyways." She responded, lip quivering. "Jimin, I loved you so much but—I think we both know that we aren't really meant for each other."

Jimin bit his lip, glancing downwards as a tear fell out of his eyes. His heart felt heavy, almost too heavy. "Yeon, please—I can't do this, not right now." He said pleadingly, eyes meeting Miyeon's glassy ones.

Miyeon simply sniffled and shook her head, giving Jimin a sad smile. "I'm sorry, Jimin." She said, letting out a shaky sigh.

Before he could say anything, Miyeon quickly walked away, not letting him see the tears in her eyes. Jimin stayed, watching as she walked away.

He stood there for a few moments, the cold air hitting his face. Then, with a heavy heart, he decided to go to the only place he could go back to, home.

As soon as he arrived, he was met with muffled sounds of laughter, something that seemed ironic when compared the current emotions he felt in his heart. He reluctantly walked up to his room and opened the door, only to be met with a sight that surprised him.

A girl was sat on the ground with Hoseok, smiles on both their faces as they caught up and ate together. As Jimin briefly met their gazes, he let out an awkward chuckle and forced out a smile.

"I'm sorry to interrupt, I didn't think you guys would still be here." He said, hoping his roommate wouldn't notice his rather sad mood.

But Hoseok simply shook his head and gave him a reassuring smile. "It's alright, Jimin-ie. We were just talking anyways." He replied, putting his can of beer on the floor.

His gaze travels from Jimin to the girl beside him, causing Jimin's eyes to follow suit.

"Oh, have you met my former school hoobae? You guys are the same age." Jimin inhales softly and forces out a small smile, tilting his head to the side. "Oh hey, I'm Jimin. Hoseok-hyung's bandmate and roommate."

You simply smiled back and waved, "Hi, I'm (Y/N)."

And despite all the sadness and heaviness in his heart, Jimin couldn't help but feel a tad bit brighter as he stood in the room.

JUNE 23, 2019. When Jimin had next met you, he had been spending the day alone.

"Hey, I'm just going to run to the store really quick. Do you need anything?" Hoseok asked, standing up from his bed.

Jimin hummed and shook his head, giving his hyung a small smile. "No, I think I'm alright. Thanks, hyung."

Hoseok nodded, grabbing his bag as he walked to the door. But before he stepped out, he glanced back towards Jimin. "Oh, (Y/N)'s coming over by the way. Just giving you a heads-up in case she arrives before I come back." he said, making Jimin nod his head.

"Okay, I can just step out when she gets here."

Hoseok paused, shaking his head. "No, you should stay and join us! I'm sure (Y/N) won't mind a bit more company." he quickly responded with an encouraging smile.

Jimin pursed his lips, slightly hesitant, "Hyung, if this is about what happened with Miyeon, I'm okay—really." he said, causing Hoseok to sigh.

"I'm not forcing you to date (Y/N)-ie, Jimin. I just want to make sure you have some company. You haven't talked to anyone other than us since it happened." Hoseok replied, giving the younger a small smile.

Jimin hesitantly glanced towards him, biting his lip before he finally sighed and nodded, "Okay, I guess I can stay for awhile."

He watched as Hoseok smiled in triumph, "Great!" he exclaimed, "I'll buy food for three people then."

He waved goodbye the younger member before walking out, causing Jimin to sigh and look down towards his phone. It had been a few months since he and Miyeon broke up and yet, he still couldn't find it in him to move on from everything she said.

He continued to space out, a solemn expression on his face before he's quickly startled by the sudden movement of the door. He glanced towards it, blinking when he saw you walk inside. "Oh, hey." he said, giving you a small wave from his bed.

He suddenly felt a bit awkward, sitting on his bed with his usual home attire while you seemed much more put together, wearing a simple outfit and—

Oh. Your hair was new. Jimin quickly realized, the now shoulder length-cut greatly contrasting the long hair you had when you first met.

He snapped out of his daze when you waved back to him and responded, "Hey. Sorry—I didn't mean to barge in, I just assumed Hobi-oppa would be here."

Jimin let out a soft smile—suddenly recalling the short interaction he had with Hoseok earlier. "It's okay, he told me to expect you anyways. He just ran out for awhile to grab some stuff at the convenience store, but he should be back soon." he explained, shrugging his shoulders.

He gazed at you as you blinked in response, hand tightly holding the strap of your bag before you curtly nod. "Oh—alright then."

Jimin pursed his lips and offered you a smile, about to divert his attention to his phone when he realized you stood still. Unconsciously smiling in amusement, he simply cleared his throat, watching as your eyes met his. "You can sit there while waiting, if you want. I'm sure he wouldn't mind." he said, one hand pointing towards Hoseok's bed.

His eyes remained on yours as you once again blinked before closing the door behind you. When it clicked, you walked towards Hoseok's bed and sat down, silence once again filling the room.

Jimin, recalling Hoseok's encouragement, reluctantly broke the silence and gave you a compliment. "Nice hair, by the way." he blurted out, carefully watching your reaction. "Oh." you simply say, making Jimin inwardly wince.

Was that too blunt? he thinks, looking downwards. He tries to come up with something else to say, but you beat him to it. "Thanks." you replied after clearing your throat, giving him a small smile.

Jimin sighed, giving you a relieved smile in return.

FEBRUARY 9, 2020.

When Jimin first began to appreciate your company, he and Hoseok were in their room.

You had been frequently visiting for a few months now and while he hadn't exactly realized it yet, he was beginning to look forward to your hangouts together.

"Hey, are you up to anything tonight?" Hoseok asked, causing Jimin to hum.

He looks up from his laptop, shrugging at the older member. "Not really, Tae invited me to have dinner with his friends but I'm not really feeling it." he replies, "Why do you ask?"

Hoseok merely shrugs back before typing on his phone, "Just curious."

Jimin raises his eyebrows in curiosity, glancing towards him. "Is (Y/N) coming over?" he asks, a bit more excited than he anticipated.

He watches as Hoseok glances towards him, a slightly confused expression on his face. "No? Jiminie, I was just curious, really." He says, letting out a chuckle.

"Oh," Jimin replies, leaning back towards his headboard. "Well, I just thought that since she hasn't come by in awhile, she would sometime soon." He says, causing Hoseok to snicker.

"Someone's keeping count." He mumbles under his breath, biting back a knowing smile.

Jimin scoots closer to the edge of the bed, not understanding what Hoseok said. "Did you say something, hyung?" He asks, the older member feigning innocence as he shakes his head.

"I'm just happy to know you two seem to be getting along well," He replies, giving the younger a smile. "It's nice to see two of my dongsaengs bond."

He smiles wider when Jimin suddenly glances down and gives him a shrug. "I mean, she's cool I guess."

Hoseok chuckles and shakes his head, throwing a pillow towards his roommate's head. "She's just busy with a project right now. The company got a really good opportunity and they assigned her as a leader." He explains, his expression growing proud.

Jimin perks up at this, a smile also forming on his face. "That's great to hear, I'm glad she's doing good."

Hoseok simply nods, "And uh—don't worry, she asked about you a few times as well." He teases, letting out another chuckle.

The younger simply smiles at this, shaking his head. But as he heard Hoseok's words, he couldn't help but notice the sudden warmth he felt in his chest.

MARCH 2, 2020.

When Jimin began to think of you more, he barely even comprehended it.

He was roaming around a store with Taehyung in tow, humming along to the R&B music playing through the speakers. It was Yoongi's birthday in a couple of days and he had taken the day off to look for a gift.

But as his eyes scanned the shelf in front of him, he couldn't help but think of you as they land on a certain object. It was a mechanical pencil, which funny enough, he immediately associated with you because of a memory.

"I still don't get it, it's just a pencil." Jimin said, staring at the image on your phone screen.

He laughs as soon as you let out a scoff, amused at how worked-up you were getting. "It's not just a pencil, it's the key to productivity! The way the lead just glides onto the paper and—"

Jimin quickly cuts you off, nodding his head. "Okay, okay, I think I get it. No need to go all architect on me." He jokes, causing you both to break out into laughter.

He chuckled as he remembered, toying with the mechanical pencil in his hand. Should I buy it for her? He wondered, biting his lip. A warm fuzzy feeling quickly filled his chest at the thought, making him smile unconsciously.

"Jimin, you good?" Taehyung suddenly asked, causing Jimin to snap out of his daze.

"Huh?" Jimin responded, slightly confused.

The other member laughed and shook his head, pointing to the pencil in his hand. "You've been smiling at that pencil for the last 10 seconds, I was just wondering if you were getting it for hyung."

Jimin blinked and looked towards his hand, staring at the object. Then, he cleared his throat and looked back towards Taehyung before nodding his head.

"Yeah, I think I'll just buy him this." He replied, causing the latter to nod his head.

The two of them walked up to the counter to pay for their items, Taehyung playfully nudging Jimin as the cashier scanned their cards.

"You know, you've been spacing out a lot recently." He said, "Is there something on your mind?"

Jimin quickly tilted his head, "Really?"

Taehyung thanked the cashier and accepted his card before turning towards his friend. "Yeah, it's something a few of us noticed." He said, letting out a chuckle.

Jimin simply shrugged, accepting his item from the cashier.

"Huh." He mumbled, looking downwards.

DECEMBER 9, 2020.

When Jimin suddenly found out about your feelings, he was very confused.

Throughout the day, he remained upset over the news of their tour for reasons even he couldn't understand. Usually, such news would excite him as it meant he'd be able to interact with ARMYs all around the world. But for some reason, the news just made his stomach churn in a way it never had before.

He thought back to everything that had changed over the past year, and realized one of the only new things that had come into his life were you. But, before he could think any more of it, he simply brushed it off as a coincidence.

However, as he spoke to you and vented out his concerns near the Han River, some of his feelings suddenly became a bit clearer. He watched with a smile as you gave him advice, gently interlocking your fingers together.

He was enjoying the moment you two were having and he liked the way he felt, even though he didn't know what exactly it was. All he knew was that there was a warmth in his chest whenever he was with you, and that it would slightly heighten when you two would touch.

Which was exactly why he couldn't help but frown when you suddenly pulled away from him.

"Everything okay?" He asked, looking at you worriedly.

He watched as you simply let out a smile and nodded before you reached backward to unravel your scarf. When he noticed you seemed to be having a difficult time, he moved towards you and unclasped the necklace around your neck.

He smiled as the two objects finally separated, quickly withdrawing his arms to give you space. He glanced towards the necklace in his hand, doing his best to untangle it while you took the scarf off of your neck.

He gazed at the small pendant of the necklace, noticing it as the one accessory you always wear whenever you come to the dorm. The crystal pendant was so small, and yet it always stood out regardless of what you'd wear.

There you go again. He quickly thought, remembering what Taehyung said and snapping out of his daze before he thought of anything else.

Jimin looked towards you, bringing his hand up to give you back the necklace when he noticed that you seemed to be deep in thought as well. He smiled and waved his hand in front of your face.

"(Y/N), you good?" He asked, chuckling when you finally look at him. "Is there something on my face?"

His smile falters when he sees the hesitant expression on your face, worried he might have said something wrong. "Are you—"

"I like you."

As the words come out of your mouth, Jimin can't bring it upon himself to hide the shock on his face. He didn't expect it at all, hell, he had no idea you even thought about him that way.

He thought back to all the times you two hung out, wondering if he ever missed any signs. Yet he couldn't think back to a specific memory, especially not with the sudden surge of emotions he felt.

"I-I'm sorry." You said as you shot up from your seat. "You don't need to say anything. I'm sorry—it just came out of nowhere."

Jimin continues staring at you, mouth agape. "(Y/N)," He finally said as he stood up, before immediately pausing.

He wanted to respond to what you said, he really did. But, what was he supposed to say if he wasn't even sure if he felt the same way? So he simply watched as you looked at him expectantly and quickly noticed the crestfallen look on your face when nothing comes out of his mouth.

"I should go." You said, swiftly grabbing your things from the bench. “Thank you for tonight, I uh—I had a great time.”

Jimin tried to stop you, but his body remained frozen.

“—and I’m sorry if I ruined it.” He hears you say, before you instantly walk away from him.

His heart cracks upon hearing the tone of your voice, tightly clasping the necklace in his palm. He felt like screaming and crying at the same time, unable to convey the feelings he felt inside. He'd never felt anything like it before, and maybe that's what scared him the most.

While he remains deep in thought, a voice suddenly brings him out of his daze, a voice he knew all too well.

"Jimin?"

He turned around and his arms both immediately dropped, shocked at the sight in front of him.

"Miyeon, is that you?"

DECEMBER 28, 2020.

When Jimin last saw you, he was conflicted.

It had been a few weeks since your last encounter, and he couldn't help but miss your presence. Sure, he was partly to blame, but he honestly just missed having a friend to talk to, or just someone to go to.

He had spent most of his days practicing with the members, burying himself in work so that he wouldn't need to think about you. As he did, he also used some of his time to catch up with Miyeon, even though he knew deep down that it wasn't right.

He just always yearned for familiarity, something to hold onto in the middle of all the tours and changing timezones. But everything with you was so new, and it scared him. So, choosing to spend his time with Miyeon was just easier—as selfish as that was.

Meanwhile, Hoseok wasn't all that happy with his decision. Sure, part of it was just him being a protective friend over you, but he also felt like what Jimin was doing was wrong—especially when he never gave you a definite answer.

Due to his disappointment, he stopped bringing you up in front of Jimin. Something that he later on realized, was also most likely a mistake as well.

Because if he had told him you were coming to visit today, maybe Jimin wouldn't have done what he did—and things wouldn't have changed as much.

"Are you sure this is okay?" Miyeon asked, sitting next to Jimin on the bed.

The latter nodded, giving his ex a small smile. "We got a lot more freedom about who we could invite to the dorm recently." He said, "It's not the first time someone's come to visit us, so don't worry."

Miyeon simply nodded her head, glancing towards him. "So, what do you want to do?" She asked, tilting her head at Jimin.

The two began to chat with one another, catching up with one another as they always did. Then, maybe it was their rather close proximity, or the fact that they were on Jimin's bed.

But slowly, Miyeon's eyes slowly gravitated towards Jimin's lips, the latter doing the same. Before they knew it, they both moved closer, and closer, until their lips meet.

The next few minutes feel like a blur to Jimin, from the moment he felt Miyeon's hands in his hair to the moment she began to crawl onto his lap. He wanted to feel euphoric as it happened, but he couldn't help but feel heavy inside.

As though, he was doing something very, very wrong.

Then, before he knew it, the door quickly opened, causing them both to pull away from one another. Jimin quickly glanced towards the door, ready to explain the situation to whoever member was at the door.

But then he sees you.

And once again, the words are just stuck in his throat. But luckily for him, he seems to have a bit more control over his limbs this time around.

He gently pushed Miyeon onto the bed and stood up, reaching towards you. “(Y/N), it’s not what it looks like—” He says, before pausing as the door gets slammed in his face.

He quickly buttons his shirt, looking at Miyeon guiltily. "Oh my god, Miyeon, I'm so sorry." He says, ruffling his hair. "Just give me a minute to fix this."

He quickly opens the door and rushes out, the thoughts running through his head at the same time. He didn't even know what exactly he was going to say. All he knew, in that moment, was that he didn't want you to walk away from him again.

But, as he met your eyes in the living room and saw the tears in your eyes that he had caused, his heart began to ache in guilt. His thoughts begin to eat at him once again.

Even if you did decide to hear him out, did he even deserve it?

So consumed by his own thoughts, he decided to cave into the fear and hold back, in spite of the fact that his heart wanted him to do otherwise.

"I'm sorry." He simply said, defeated.

He sees the sad look on your face contort into one of disappointment, bracing himself for what you had to say.

"I'm sorry too."

As soon as the words come out of your mouth and you leave, Jimin feels his heart crack into 2, the pain being too much for him. Everything felt so wrong, no matter how much he told him himself that what he did was right.

JANUARY 2, 2021.

When Jimin began to come to terms with his feelings, things also started to fall back into place.

It had barely been a week since he last saw you, yet he couldn't wipe your face away from his memory. He had thought long and hard about everything, which is what led to the decision he was making right now.

"I think we should end this," Jimin said, staring straight at Miyeon as they sat across one another. "Whatever this is."

To his surprise, Miyeon didn't seem fazed by what he said. She simply let out a chuckle, nodding her head before she took a sip of her coffee.

"It's that girl, isn't it?" She asked, causing Jimin to stiffen. Upon seeing his reaction, Miyeon let out a sad smile. "It's okay, Jimin. I kind of noticed it too."

He looked at her confusedly, unable to understand what she meant. "Notice what?"

She looked and him and shrugged her shoulders, "That day I came to you at the dorms, I saw the look on your face." She said, "I mean, it's one thing to be mortified when someone walks in but—you almost looked guilty."

Jimin sighed at this, "I'm sorry, Miyeon. I swear, this wasn't how I expected things to go." He explained, "If I had known, I wouldn't have tried to start anything between us in the first place."

Miyeon simply sighed before responding, "Jimin, it's fine, I promise."

But he frowned and shook his head, the guilt of the entire situation eating him up once again. "No, it's not, Miyeon, I led you on. Hell, like you said, you saw me run after a girl right after we kissed."

"Look, Jimin," Miyeon mumbled, leaning back in her chair. "You made a really big mistake and I think we both know that. But—I didn't exactly go to you with any intentions either."

At this, Jimin glanced at her, confused. "What do you mean?"

"I saw you that day at the Han River and I honestly just wanted to catch up. But, when I noticed you didn't seem to be dating anyone either, I thought it would that, well—it wouldn't hurt to rekindle a past relationship."

She sighed and toyed with her glass before continuing, "I never expected anything from you, Jimin. In fact, it makes me happy to know you seemed to have moved on."

Jimin's gaze travelled down to his glass, swirling the coffee around. "I don't even know anymore, to be honest. Everything about her just feels so—new." He mumbles, the tone of his voice expressing his slight nervousness.

Miyeon nods understandingly, "Well, is that really so bad?" She says, watching his expression turn into slight confusion. "I mean, I get why you'd be scared but, for all you know, maybe it's a good sign."

"Maybe," He mumbles, still hesitant.

His ex sighs, putting her glass on the table. "Okay then, answer this. Those feelings you feel—those new ones? What kind of feelings are they?" She asks, looking at Jimin expectantly.

The man huffs, "They're fuzzy and warm," He replies, "Like, whenever we're together, I always get this warm feeling in my chest, and it only dissipates once she's gone or sad."

"Well, is it a bad kind of warmth? Like from discomfort?" Miyeon asks, causing Jimin to shake his head.

"No," He says, "Not at all. It's more—comforting, actually. Kind of like a hug after a long day."

Upon hearing his answer, Miyeon sighs, a sentimental smile on her face.

"Well, I think you have your answer then."

FEBRUARY 4, 2021.

When Jimin finally understood, he didn't realize it was too late.

After parting ways with Miyeon, he gave himself a chance to truly ponder over what he felt for you, as well as process everything that ensued.

He would be lying if he said he was completely certain about everything, but all he knew for sure was that he did indeed feel something and that he missed you.

So now, after what felt like forever, he finally mustered up enough courage to show up at your door and talk to you about it. He bought your favorite coffee as a peace offering, hoping you'd appreciate the fact that he still remembered your coffee order word per word.

"I brought you coffee, and uh—I was thinking we could go watch a movie afterwards." He practiced, staring straight at the door in front of him.

He took a deep breath before ringing the doorbell, patiently awaiting your answer. But to his disappointment, no one seemed to be answering the door. The coffee in is hands grew cold, and he began to lose hope.

After a few more minutes, Jimin walked back to his car in defeat. He grabbed his phone from his pocket and opened a conversation he had with Hoseok.

jimin: hey, hyung. is (y/n) with you? i'm in front of her door but she doesn't seem to be opening it.

He stared at the phone, frowning once again when Hoseok also fails to respond to his message. In a last leap of faith, he walked back to the door and rang the doorbell one last time before he finally gave up and decided to leave.

A few hours later, he found himself inside a theater, sighing at the empty seat next to him. The fact that he hadn't heard from you and Hoseok made his chest constrict in a way he hated as the guilt from what had happened began to eat at him once again.

But as he watched the movie, he suddenly felt his phone buzz on his lap, causing his hopes to go up a bit. He unlocks his phone and sees a message from Hoseok, and his heart quickly drops at the message.

hoseok: she left on a business trip to europe. she isn't coming back for another few months.

Upon seeing the message, the heaviness in Jimin's heart suddenly increased. He dropped his phone onto his lap and looked straight at the screen in front of him. Not long after, he glanced towards the seat next to him, the words of Hoseok finally sinking in.

Then, all at once, the heaviness disappeared—and in its place was nothing but emptiness.

The Devil Wears A Suit | 4

“Don’t look now,” Jimin said, mouth as immobile as a ventriloquist, “but I spy Zendaya at three o’clock.”

You swiveled immediately as Jimin cringed in embarrassment, hand moving over his face to cover it. And sure enough, there she was, sipping a glass of champagne and throwing her head back in laughter. You didn’t want to be impressed, but you couldn’t help it: Euphoria was one of your favorite shows, and Zendaya was a phenomenal actress.

“Jimin, honey, so glad you could make it to my little get-together,” quipped a tall, beautiful man who came up behind you two. “And who do we have here?” They kissed, embracing one another in a hug that lasted a little too long.

“Kim Seokjin, talented vocalist and designer, this is __. She’s actually—“

“Oh I know very well who she is, Jeongguk’s new assistant,” Seokjin finished, plump lips forming into a perfect smile. “I’ve heard all about you, little one. Welcome to our family. I do hope you’ll come visit me sometime. I can assure you I’ll, um, smooth over your look.” He ran his slender fingers lovingly over your scalp, picking up the ends of your hair and immediately brought them closer to the roots. “Yes, just a touch of something darker and you’ll be on the next cover of Runway. Get my number from Jimin. Come and see me anytime you get a minute!” he sang as he floated toward Zendaya.

Your mouth hung open as he sauntered toward your favorite actress and embraced her, kissing both of her cheeks. Jimin sighed and looked on wistfully, “He’s amazing,” he breathed, “no one like him. The ultimate. A man among the boys, to say the least. And his lips.” You looked to Jimin who looked like he was on the verge of an orgasm. A man among boys? Funny. Whenever anyone had used that phrase before you always pictured an Olympian— not a designer.

“Yeah, he’s gorgeous, we can agree on that. You too dated?” They seemed like the perfect match to you: the associate beauty editor of Runway dating one of the most sought-after designers in the free world.

“I wish. He’s dating Hoseok from the fashion department, has been for six fucking years. Can you believe it? Anyway, admit it. This is the best party you’ve ever been to,” Jimin said, smiling.

You decided to go with Jimin for the mere reason that you simply had nothing else to do. Your other, college friends were busy with their day jobs and you were getting sick of Sehun chasing Jiyeon like a lost puppy in Single’s Inferno. At first, it seemed impossible that a single interesting thing would happen at a party for a book on Seokjin’s lyrics. Yes, his lyrics.

But then, Usher came up to Jimin to say hi, and you were shocked that he still had command of the English language and even managed to pull out a few funny jokes. He told you a few weeks ago that Usher was his favorite artist, so seeing him struggle to keep it together did, in fact, make you giggle. A little. All in all, it hadn’t been a bad two hours.

“I’m not sure I’d go that far,” You said, leaning toward him to catch a glimpse of a good-looking guy who appeared to be sulking in the corner. “But it hasn’t been as disappointing as I’d imagined. And besides, I’m up for anything after the day I’ve had.”

After Jeongguk made his rather abrupt departure after his rather abrupt arrival, Irene informed you that tonight would be the first time you would have to bring “the Book” to Jeongguk’s apartment.

The infamous Book was a large wire-bounded collection of pages that looked like an ancient manuscript, in which each current issue of Runway was laid out. Irene explained to you, that no substantial work gets done each day until after Jeongguk leaves. This is because all of the editorial people spend all day long consulting with him, and per usual— Jeon Jeongguk changes his mind every two minutes.

Thus, no real work gets done until Jeongguk is long out of the office. The art department would craft their layout and input any new photos that had come one, and editorial would tweak and print any copy that had finally, gotten Jeongguk’s approval— a giant “JK” scaled across the first page. Every editor would send all the day’s new changes to the art assistant, who, hours after nearly everyone else had left, would run the images and layouts and words through a small machine that waxed the backs of the pages and pressed them onto their appropriate page in the Book.

It was then your job to take the Book up to Jeongguk’s apartment when it was completed— this varied from anywhere in the eight to twelve P.M. range. Jeongguk would bring it back the next day and the cycle would once again commence.

When Irene overheard you telling Jimin that you’d be willing to party with him after all, she jumped right in. “Um, you do know you can’t go anywhere until the Book is finished, right?”

You stared, dumbfounded at the absurdity of importance that a simple book could have. Nonetheless, this was the “Book” so you couldn’t argue with anyone. Jimin looked as though he might jump over Irene’s desk and tackle her to the ground.

Irene rolled her eyes at Jimin’s expression, “Yeah, I have to say this is the only part of the job that I’m most happy to get over with. It can get really— and I mean really late sometimes but Jeongguk needs to see it every single night, there are no exceptions there. He works from home most of the time, so we pay the price. Anyway, I’ll wait with you tonight and show you how it’s done, after that, you’re on your own.”

You nodded, “OK, sounds good with me. Any clue when it’ll be done tonight?”

Irene sighed, slumping into her office chair and staring at the crystal lamp that hung from the ceiling, “Nope. Changes every night, but, if you need an answer ask the art department.”

The Book was ready at 10:30 P.M. which was considered lucky. You’d retrieved it from an exhausted-looking art assistant and walked with Irene down to 75th Street. Irene was holding an armful of freshly-dry cleaned suits on hangers, encased in white plastic. She explained that the clothes always accompanied the Book. Jeongguk would bring his dirty clothes to the office, where, as your luck would have it, it was your job to call the cleaners and let them know we had a pickup. They would send someone to the Jeon building immediately, pick up the clothes, and return them in perfect condition a day later.

“Hey, Joosung!” Irene waved brightly, fakery, to the pipe-chomping dispatcher you met your first day. “This is __. She’ll be taking care of the Book from now on, so make sure she gets a good car, got it?”

“Will do, ‘Rene.” He pulled the pipe out of his mouth and motioned toward you. “I’ll take good care of Princess over here.”

“Great. Oh, by the way, can you have another car follow us to Jeongguk’s? We’re going to go separate ways once Jeongguk has the Book.”

Two massive SUVs pulled up just at that moment, and the mammoth of a driver in the first car barreled out of the front seat and opened the back door for the both of you. Irene climbed in first, immediately whipping out her cell phone and calling out, “Jeon Jeongguk’s apartment, please.” The driver nodded and threw the car in gear without a second thought.

“Is it always the same driver?” You asked, wondering how he knew where to go without a GPS.

Irene motioned for you to be quiet as she left a voice message for her roommate. She then said, “No, but there’s a limited amount of drivers who work directly for the company. I’ve had them all about forty times so they all know his address by now.” She went back to her tapping, quickly scrolling through the feed of Vogue’s Instagram account. You turned around and saw the second SUV carefully mimicking your turns and stops.

You pulled up in front of a Typical Fifth Avenue doorman building: an immaculate sidewalk, well-kept balconies, and what looked like a gorgeous, warmly lit lobby. A man in a tuxedo and hat immediately came to the car and opened the door for you both, and Irene wasted no time in hopping. You wondered why you weren’t just going to leave the Book and the clothes with the front doorman. As far as you understood—and it wasn’t a lot, especially when it came to this strange city—that’s what doormen were for. As in, that’s their job. But Irene pulled a leather Louis Vuitton key chain from her Gucci logo tote and handed it to you abruptly.

“I’ll wait here. You take the stuff up to his apartment, Penthouse A. Just open the door and leave the book on the table in the foyer and hang the clothes on the hooks by the closet. Not in the closet, by the closet. And then just leave. Whatever you do, don’t knock or ring the doorbell. Don’t look anywhere else, he doesn’t like to be disturbed. Let yourself in and then get the hell out of there.” Irene handed you the tangle of wire hangers and plastic and opened her cell phone again. You could do this, easy-peasy. So much drama for a book and some suits.

The elevator man smiled kindly at you and silently pressed a PH button after turning a key. “I’ll wait here,” he said softly, staring at the floor. “Shouldn’t take longer than a minute.”

The carpet in the hallways was a deep burgundy color, and you almost toppled over when one of your heels got stuck in one of the damn loops. The walls were papered in thick, cream-colored paint and there was a suede cream bench pushed against the way. There were a pair of French doors directly in front of you that said PH A and it took you every ounce of restraint to not ring the doorbell, clearly remembering Irene’s warning and deciding to slide the key into the lock.

It clicked right away, and before you could fix your hair or wonder what was on the other side, you were standing in a large airy foyer and smelling the most amazing scent of steak. And there he was, bringing a fork to his mouth as he stared at a woman who sat directly in front of him, hands pressed against her forehead in agitation.

“You never listen to me Jeongguk, how are we supposed to get married?” She yelled at Jeongguk who’d set his fork down and was taking a sip of what you knew to be Pellegrino with lime.

“See! You’re not even fucking listening to me now. Do you even care about anything I have to say?” The woman, whom you presumed to be Jeongguk’s fiancé, called.

And then you realized you’d been standing there for nearly thirty seconds, observing them have a very personal argument. They hadn’t seen you yet, but would as soon as you moved toward the dining table. You did so gingerly but felt the both of them turn to look. Just as you were about to offer some sort of greeting, you remembered making a gigantic ass out of yourself eat the first meeting earlier today, stammering like an idiot. So, keeping your mouth shut was the only viable option here.

Table, table, table. There it was. Put the Book down there. Okay, now for the suits. You looked around frantically for the place you were supposed to hang the dry cleaning, but couldn’t focus. Not when the dinner table had grown silent and you could feel their continuous stares. No one said hello. It didn’t seem to bother Jeongguk or his girlfriend that you had walked into an argument, and worst of all listened to it.

Finally, you saw a small coat closet tucked away behind the door and barely managed to get every twisted slippery hanger on the rod.

“Not in the closet, Irene,” You heard Jeongguk call out not your name, slowly, deliberately. “On the hooks that are provided for this exact occasion.”

“Oh, um, hi there.” Idiot! You fucking idiot! Shut the fuck up! He’s not looking to start a conversation, just do whatever the fuck he says! You couldn’t help it though, it was too weird not say to hello , or in anyway acknowledge that you had just let yourself into their apartment and pooled around. And Irene? Was she fucking kidding? Blind? “I’m, __, Jeongguk. Your new assistant.”

Silence. All-pervasive, unbearable, never-ending, deafening debilitating silence.

You knew you shouldn’t keep talking, you knew that you were digging your own grave, but you couldn’t help yourself. “Um, well, sorry ‘bout the confusion. I’ll just put these on the hooks, like you said, and let yourself out.” Stop narrating! He doesn’t give a shit what you’re doing. Just do it and fuck off.

You silently wished Jimin was here to tackle you himself, to stop you from digging an even further hole. “OK, then, have a nice dinner. Nice meeting you.” You gestured to Jeongguk and his fiancé, who stared blankly at you. You turned to leave and realized that not only was the mere act of talking ridiculous, but that you were also saying stupid shit. Nice to meet you? You hadn’t even been introduced to either of them.

“Irene!” You heard just as your hand reached the doorknob. “Irene, lets not let this happen tomorrow night. We’re not interested in your interruption.” And the doorknob turned itself in your hand and you were finally back in the hallway. The entire fiasco had taken less than a minute, but it felt like you’d just swum the entire length of an Olympic-size pool without coming up for air once.

You slumped onto the bench and took one long, controlled breath. That fucking asshole! The first time he called you Irene could’ve been a forgivable mistake, but the second was undoubtedly deliberate. Did he get off on making others feel humiliated? Like they’re beneath him? What better way to belittle and marginalize someone than to insist on calling them the wrong name, after you’ve refused to so much as acknowledge their presence in your own home? You were very aware that you were the lowest-ranking-life-form at the magazine already— as if Irene hadn’t yet lost an opportunity to impress upon you— but was it really so necessary for Jeongguk to make sure you were aware of it, too?

It honestly wouldn’t have been outside the realm of reality to sit there all night and shoot mental bullets at the PH A doors, but you heard a throat clearing and looked up to find the sad little elevator man watching you, patiently waiting for you to join him.

“Sorry,” you said as you shuffled abroad.

“No problem,” he near-whispered, intently studying the wood-paneled floor. “It’ll get easier, trust me.”

“What? I’m sorry, I didn’t—“

“Nothing, nothing. Here you are, have a nice evening.” The door opened to the lobby, where Irene loudly chattered on her phone. She clicked the screen when she saw you exiting the elevator.

“How’d it go? No problems, right?”

You briefly thought of telling her what had transpired, wished that she could be a sympathetic coworker, that you two could be a two, but you knew you’d just be setting yourself up for another lashing. So, no thank you.

“Totally fine, great even! No problems at all. They were eating dinner and I just left everything exactly where you said.”

“Good. That’s what you’ll do every night. Then just take the car home and you’re good to go. Anyway, have fun with Jimin at the part tonight. I’d go but I have a bikini wax appointment and can’t cancel it— do you believe they’ve been booked for four months? In the middle of winter too! I just can’t understand why everyone needs a bikini wax right now.”

Your head pounded to the tempo of her voice and it seemed that no matter how you responded, you would forever have to listen to her talk about bikini waxes. It may have been better to have had her scream at you about interrupting Jeongguk’s dinner.

“Yeah, that blows. Well, I’d better get going, told Jimin I’d meet him at nine and it’s already ten after. See you tomorrow?”

“Mhm, will go. Oh, and just so you know, you’ll still get in at seven, but I don’t come in until eight. Jeongguk knows— it’s understood that the senior assistant comes in later since she works so much harder.” You almost lunged at her throat. “So just go through the morning routine like I taught you. Call me if you need to, but, I’d prefer if you didn’t. Bye!” She hopped into the backseat of the second car with a wave.

“Bye!” You trilled, a giant fake smile plastered on your face. The driver made a move to get out of the car and open the door for you, but you told him it was fine to let yourself into the backseat. “Just the Plaza, please.”

Jimin had been waiting for you on the stairs outside even though it couldn’t have been more than twenty degrees outside. He’d gone home to change and looked very, very skinny in black suede pants and a white ribbed tank top, which showed off his large ‘Nevermind’ tattoo that crossed his abdomen.

“Hey, how’d the Book dropping-off go?” The both of you waited in line to check your coats and you immediately spotted Beyonce and Jay-Z.

“Holy fuck, you’re kidding. Beyonce is here?”

“Well, yeah. Seokjin is her hairstylist, so, she’d obviously be here. Really, __, maybe next time you’ll believe me when I tell you to stick with me. Let’s get a drink.”

By the time one A.M. Rolled around, you’d had four drinks and was happily gabbing away with a fashion assistant from Vogue. You were discussing the new K-Drama Business Proposal. Passionately. And you were enjoying it. Christ, you thought, as you weaved through the crowd looking for Jimin, flashing a giant kiss-ass smile in the general direction of Beyonce and Jay-Z when you passed by— maybe this party isn’t is bad.

But, you were tipsy and had to be at work in less than six hours, and you hadn’t been home in nearly twenty-four, so when you spotted Jimin making out with one of the colorists from Seokjin’s salon, you were about to duck out when you felt a hand in the small of your back.

“Hey,” said the gorgeous guy you’d spotted earlier lurking in the corner. You waited for him to realize he’d approached the wrong girl, that you must’ve looked like the same as his girlfriend from behind, but he just widened his smile further. “Not so talkative, are you?”

“Oh, and saying ‘hey’ makes you so articulate, I guess?” Shit! Shut your mouth! You berated silently. Some beautiful man approached you out of the blue at a celebrity party and the first thing you do is blow him off? But, the handsome man didn’t seem so offended, and even though it didn’t seem possible, his smile increased into an all-out grin.

“My bad,” you muttered while examining your nearly empty drink. “My names ___. There. I think that’s a much better way of starting a conversation.” You stuck your hand out and wondered what he wanted.

“Actually, I liked your way just fine. Name’s Hyunjin. Pleasure to meet you.” He pushed a lock of blonde hair out of his left eye and took a swig from a White Claw. He looked vaguely familiar, you decided, but couldn’t quite place him.

“A White-Claw?” You asked, pointing to his hand. You hadn’t seen one of those since you graduated high school. “I didn’t think they’d serve teenage drinks at a party like this.”

He laughed, a deep, hearty laugh instead of the chuckle you’d expected. “You sure do say what you think, don’t you?” You must’ve looked mortified, because he smiled again and said, “No, no, that’s a good thing. Rare thing really, especially in this industry.” He pulled a pack of cigarettes from the pocket of his black sport coat and offered it to you. You took and proceeded to drop it immediately, seizing the opportunity to examine him while you reached down to retrieve it.

Hyunjin immediately produced a flame and leaned in close to make sure your cigarette had caught. “So what brings you to a party like this? Are you one of the lucky few who can call Kim Seokjin her own?”

“No, I’m afraid not. I work at Runway. One of the beauty guys dragged me here.”

“Ah, Runway, magazine, huh? Interesting, how do you like it?”

“It’s a strange place. I’m not so into fashion— I’d actually rather be painting, but I guess it’s not too bad of a start. What do you do?”

“I’m a writer.”

“Oh, you are? That must be nice.” You hoped it didn’t sound quite as condescending as it felt, but it got to be really annoying when everyone in New York anointed themselves as a writer or actor or poet. I used to write fanfics during college, you thought to yourself. Did that make you a writer, too? “What do you write?”

“Mostly fictional work, I’m actually working on one right now.” He took another swig of the liquid and swatted at another pesky but adorable piece of hair.

You nodded, “What’s it about?”

He thought for a moment and then said, “Uh— well. It’s loosely based off of my brother and me. Always being in the spotlight and how no one really ever…”

He continued talking, but you’d already tuned him out. Holy shit. You recognized the book description immediately from a New Yorker article you’d read a few days beforehand. You were standing at a party, casually chatting to Jeon Hyunjin, your evil-bosses half-brother. A boy genius who’d first been published at the ripe age of twenty from a Yale library cubicle. The critics had gone crazy over his first book, hailing it as one of the most significant literary achievements.

“Wow—“ you chocked out, suddenly feeling too tired to produce any other words. This guy was not only some big-time author but Jeongguk’s fucking brother. His blood. His blood relative, and for some unbeknownst reason he was talking to you— what the hell did he want with you? Probably just killing time before his girlfriend finished her $10,000 per day modeling assignment. Or Jeongguk himself had sent him here deliberately to crush you. What does it matter anyway? You asked yourself harshly.

“You’re scared of me,” he stated factually, flashing a teasing smile.

“Scared of you? Why on earth would I be scared of you?”

He grinned and reached for your elbow, deftly turning you around. “Come on, I’ll put you in a cab.” And before you could say no, that you were perfectly fine on finding your own way home, you were standing on the red-carpeted steps of the Plaza with him.

“Need a cab, folks?” The doorman asked you as the both of you walked outside.

“Yes, just one for the lady,” Hyunjin answered.

“No, I have a car, um, right over there,” You said, pointing to the strip of 58th Street in front of the Paris Theatre where all the SUVs had lined up.

You weren’t looking at him, but you could feel Hyunjin smiling again. One of those smiles. He walked you over to the car and opened the door, swinging his arm gallantly toward the backseat.

“Thank you,” You said formally, not a little awkwardly while extending my hand.

“No problem, tell Jeongguk I said hello.” He took the hand you’d intended him to shake and instead pressed it to his lips, leaving it there just a fraction of a second longer than he should have. “I do hope we see each other again soon.” And by then you’d somehow made it into the backseat without tripping or otherwise humiliating yourself and was concentrating on not blushing even though I could already feel that it was too late. He slammed the door and watched as the car pulled away.

You took a long, controlled breath and slumped against the leather of the familiar SUV. Why in the hell did Jeongguk’s brother take such a sudden liking to you? Hell, there were probably hundreds of celebrities that would’ve gladly entertained him, so— why you?

As far as you knew, you didn’t stand out, if anything, you were surprised he didn’t somehow mistake you for the staff. You stared at your hand, trying to remember every detail about the way he’d kissed it, the way his eyes locked onto yours and didn’t break the contact. You thrust the offending hand into your bag and pulled out your phone.

You dialed Jeongguk’s number, mind-hazily skipping over the fact that you were angrily typing in the numbers of your boss’ cellphone. Once the familiar contact ‘Boss’ appeared, you pressed the dial button and firmly pressed the phone against your ear, letting it ring three times, until someone picked up and a familiar sleepy voice drawled out, “Irene, are you aware of the time?”

You weren’t sure as to why you suddenly decided to call Jeongguk. Why he was the first person to pop into your mind, but here you were. So, might as well make the best of it. Fuck you Jeongguk, and fuck your offendingly-handsome brother for infiltrating his way into your mind tonight.

“Hey fuckface, my name isn’t Irene, and by the way, your brother says hello.”

You didn’t wait for Jeongguk’s response, by the time the last word left your mouth you had hung up on him and shoved your phone back into your purse. You blankly stared at the dark, dark ceiling of the SUV, too intoxicated to put an ounce of thought into how badly you had just fucked up.

Jimin is precious and an actual sweetheart.

You’ve noticed it for the past few weeks, even though you never wanted to in the first place. You’ve discovered a new side of Jimin. Not the sexy Jimin, who could make any girl swoon over him, which you’ve known from the beginning. But the silly Jimin who sometimes teased and acted like a child, laughing right after.

He’s cheerful most of the time, trying to cheer anyone who feels down and be there for them. Like that time, when Mina failed on her psychology test and cried on your shoulder, while Jimin assured her everything will be fine. He came back with a chocolate bar and single rose the next day.

But most of the time, he doesn’t show how he really feels or what he’s been going through. Like that time, when you’ve seen him struggling in the practice room you randomly passed by. The image is engraved in your mind to this day. He was there alone, sitting on the floor covering his face with his hands. At first, you weren’t sure if it’s really him since he changed his hair color back to his usual sandy blonde. But then you’ve noticed oversized sweater hugging his torso, the one you complimented him when Mina said she isn’t sure about it. You were debating about going in but then you’ve noticed not to, even when he stood up and threw frustratedly his black cap on the floor. You were once remembered that this is none of your business.

This is my original content. Please do not repost of modify in anyway!

Here is part 3! I know I said this would be the last part but the two endings didn’t mesh well together and it all just seemed rushed SO I will be posting a part 4 separately probably tomorrow or Monday. Long after he left you were still awake, watching the diamond sky twinkle then melt away as sun after sun rose in its glory. Yet as breathtaking as it was, your mind was occupied with other things; like the blonde haired elf who was on some perilous quest for his right to rule at this very moment, Sol having informed you of his departure an hour ago.

He didn’t come to say goodbye.

As far as he was concerned, he’d said it last night.

And you hadn’t asked him to stay, even though you wanted to.

Y'know how repeatedly typing 'a' is like scream and repeatedly typing 'z' is showing someone's sleeping? What do the others mean?

What I've gathered (post original post-haha see I'm funny I swear-):

A: Realization (like, 'a(h), okay')/Screaming/Sighing/Voice exercises -Often followed by 'h' rather than itself.

E: Squealing -Like the stereotypical girl squealing? When they see something cute? I don't know.

I: Squealing(?) -I don't know what I'm doing.

M: Gagged/Eating/Humming/Sleepy noises/Surprise/Thinking -Often presented with alternating caps to indicate pitch. Commonly used to portray unintelligible speech.

N: Cute noises/Eating/Humming (rare)/Sleepy noises/Surprise/Thinking -Often used to show satisfaction, usually short and sweet (little sibling of 'm' vibes). It can also be used as a nonverbal response and accompanied with subtle body language (i.e. nodding/clenching of fist/narrowing of eyes/change in facial expression).

O: Interest/Mockery -Often presented with alternating caps to indicate pitch.

R: Growling -Would probably start with a 'g'?

S: Hissing (i guess?)/Snake slithering/Sizzling (like grill) -Often starts with a capital, but is followed by lower case.

T: Symbols???

V: Industrial noises? -Like machine?

Z: Buzzing/Sleeping/Snoring/Static -Often presented with alternating caps to indicate unevenness or proximity.

This Is A Little Odd, Cause Last Stream The Messages Read Quick, I Dont Have Much Time. Stay Away From

This is a little odd, cause last stream the messages read ‘’Quick, I don’t have much time. Stay away from the North! A strange metal weapon washed up. It poisons.’

Small add on:

Also, I don’t know if it’s just me but, the way it’s phrased it a bit weird too “Someone needs to tell him he must go to the north” it feels like half way through, the original sentence got cut off:

“Someone needs to tell him-”

“he must go to the north”

It was kinda confirmed the second time the messages showed up that they are coming from 2 different entitles:

‘’Quick, I don’t have much time. Stay away from the North! A strange metal weapon washed up. it poisons the nature" "no it's not"

The entitles, whoever they are, clearly don’t get along.

“Wake up!“

anyone remember Fundy’s mental health lore stream? cause I certainly do. All Fundy had to do was wake up :)

Hey! I know, as an author, i shouldn’t be here asking for an update or any kind of thing, but I’m so in love with this piece of art, the plot, the development of their relationship, the things this might become! I want to keep scrolling and reading as the addicted I became after this!!!

You have an exquisite writing, it’s light and comforting and brings different topics with such ease! I really wish, whatever you are facing or dealing with, a better recovery and some inspiration to write this, because I really really want to read more!

I’ll try to read your masterlist as well because obviously I won’t get over your writing too lol but anywaysssss thank you for this story!
