He’s gonna commit so many crimes
if they make the episode titles like the chapter titles in the books imagine how the new audience would react when they click on the first episode and see that it's called "i accidentally vaporize my pre-algebra teacher"
percy jackson wouldn't like you if you were harassing leah because of her race btw
thinking about how percy was SEETHING with anger as soon as ares mentioned his mom. and later luke was INSTANTLY angry and attacked percy when he mentioned his dad. both are angry when their parents are mentioned but for such different reasons… and how that is the crux of their characters… percy fights because of his loved ones, in defense of them, to protect them. he lets his anger fuel him to do good, to try and make the world a better place. luke fights because of his anger and resentment towards the gods, even if his choices will hurt his loved ones. he lets his anger fuel him to go down the wrong path, lets it take over and leave rational thinking behind. yeah
when we get pjotv season 5 and we get Percy creating a hurricane to fight a titan scene, Nico and hades marching in with an army of the undead scene, Annabeth taking a knife for Percy scene, Luke scene, May Castellan scene, the underwater kiss scene, Silena and the dragon scene, what then? WHAT THEN?
He’s gonna commit so many crimes
I have so many feelings about Grover and his Uncle Ferdinand.
And you are going to hear them all.
Okay so. I don’t know why as a long-term PJO fan this didn’t occur to me until tonight when I watched Ep. 3 of the show, but…
The first time Uncle Ferdinand is mentioned, Grover started off just talking about his uncle to break tension. To give a fun fact about where they were, and what that means to him. (Mostly because he is nervous and is the equivalent of a teenager and teens love nothing more than to say nothing, the most unsettling shit, or whatever will conveniently draw attention away from whatever problem is going on)
This changes once we get to Medusa’s. He is more worried about Annabeth and Percy, and completely forgets about his rambles about his lost Uncle... Until they reach the basement where they are trying to escape. You get to see Grover’s despair at his Uncle’s demise. You can hear it in his voice when he talks about how he doesn’t look scared, not like the other statues. He sounds bittersweet, proud in a miserable way.
But what sticks with me the most is this—
Grover, sweet Grover, didn’t know where his Uncle Ferdinand failed.
He had no way of knowing when and where his Uncle perished. He says it quite frankly when he says his comment about how “he didn’t even make it past Trenton”.
He knew that his Uncle had failed to find Pan, of course. He never came back. But he didn’t know just how quickly he failed.
Which leads me to this fuckin’ heartbreaking realization:
Grover stares at his Uncle Ferdinand’s statue. He obviously is devastated, and proud, in equal measures. But he stares at the statue.
Why?
Not just because it’s his Uncle Ferdinand, no— he stares because he believes this will be his fate too. Not necessarily the statue part, but the failure part. He doesn’t have confidence that he can help Percy and Annabeth.
I’m sure by the end of the Book 1/Season 1, Uncle Ferdinand’s fate won’t haunt him too much…
…until he leaves on his own quest for Pan. Until he’s caught by Polyphemus, the Cyclops. Until he’s frantically undoing his “hard work” every night, praying Polyphemus doesn’t see through his disguise.
Do you think he wonders what’s the worst fate, while he unravels his wedding veil in the Cyclops’ lair: statue, unwilling bride, or snack?
I’m about to say something controversial. I loved the PJO TV series. I loved it so so much.
But.
It wasn’t perfect. There’s so much I wish they had done better and I know they COULD have done better.
I love the addition of the gold chair scene BUT I wish they had introduced Annabeth’s fear of spiders by having the spiders chase them into the chair. I loved seeing Sally give Percy blue jellybeans and blue pancakes BUT I wish they had shown her in her “Sweets on America” uniform and perhaps had Gabe say something like “Oh again with the stupid blue candy” and her or Percy answer “so it’s a real thing now, huh?” so new watchers could maybe get an idea of where it came from. I love that we got to see Sally as a real person BUT I think they made her too harsh and she could’ve been a frustrated single parent without getting mad at her young son for missing her or because he was scared and she was being judged. I loved Annabeth geeking out over Hephaestus’ creations BUT I missed the cheesy merch clothes (and don’t say Annabeth wouldn’t steal them, she literally pickpocketed Hermes)
It’s ok to say that things were wrong. But you know what? It’s also ok to say that you enjoyed certain elements. The show doesn’t have to be entirely bad or entirely good. I hated the Crusty scene but I loved Poseidon’s surrender. I hated Charon’s weak character design but I loved Ares’ character and his conversation with Grover.

One thing which genuinely bothers me is Annabeth's perception in the fandom. How she's seen as this cold, stoic, emotionless, reserved and intimidating girl. When in reality, she's a character full of love.
Annabeth, who immediately cried and felt attached to Cerberus after playing with him for a few minutes because she wouldn't get to play with him again.
Annabeth, whose deepest desire, which the Sirens lured her with, is saving Luke and having a good relationship with both her parents.
Annabeth, who believed in Luke's goodness, even after all the countless terrible things he did simply because she had faith in his humanity.
Annabeth, who cried in Percy's arms before entering the labyrinth and refused to reveal the last line of the prophecy because it said to lose a love worse than death and the idea of losing any of her friends is too painful, heartbreaking and worse than dying.
Annabeth, who kissed Percy before parting with him in St. Helens because if he's going to die, she at least wants him to die knowing she loved him.
Annabeth, who took a poisoned knife for Percy during the war because she'd rather die herself than let him die.
Annabeth, who convinced Luke to switch sides by reminding him of the promise of family he gave her. Which in turn, influenced Luke's decision to end himself to destroy Kronos. Hello, she saved the world with the power of love.
Annabeth, who spent months after months losing sleep and searching desperately for Percy when he went missing.
Annabeth, who kissed Percy to eternity in public at their reunion, not caring what anyone is going to say or think. An asteroid could've hit the earth, and she wouldn't have cared.
Annabeth, who told Percy “I love you” when falling in Tartarus because if she was going to die, she wanted them to be her last words.
Annabeth Chase is a sweetheart, who has always felt things deeply and she's so full of love. And I think it's time we let go of the “cold-hearted annabeth” headcanon because it's not true, that's not her.
