Reverse Au - Tumblr Posts - Page 2

As requested by demongirl99, the Reverse!Mystery Kids~
I've explained that for me, a Reverse AU isn't about just switching character roles or even making their personalities the complete opposite of canon, which is why the Pines here aren't all decked out in turquoise like you normally see in the Rev!Pines AU, and that for the most part, the others don't really look different from canon. It's more about their attitudes and choices that are different and oppose canon-- things you can't always see, but I did my best to get across through body language and interaction. Needless to say this was a fun challenge, and I wrote a lot of headcanons you can read about here.
Alright, time to share Reverse!Kids headcanons; brace yourselves, for these are not the kind, happy, adventurous kids you know and love.
Gravity Falls
-Dipper is a serious child, quiet and lost in his own thoughts more often than not. He’s intensely curious and likes understanding things, working at them until he masters them completely. This leads to high marks in school, but upon discovery of the Journal, down the path of magic and sorcery. The world this opens up to him is one of endless possibilities, and he’s determined to explore every single one heedless of what it might cost him. Magic gives him a sense of self-importance and power, something he always wanted but never got at home; his magic is focused on manipulation and destructive force. The only person he’s really close to is Mabel, who he would do anything for and is fiercely protective of. He’s given to disappearing into the forest for hours, or cooping himself up in the attic to study.
-Mabel is almost the complete opposite of her brother, bright and cheery and not nearly so concerned with intense study. But don’t let any of it fool you—her propensity for non-linear thinking has lent itself to magic, and her spells hit just as hard—if not harder—than her brother’s. Her interest in magic amounts to making her dreams come true no matter how bizarre they may be, and manifests as illusions and blinding light shows. Her imagination can run away with her, and she can become incredibly obsessive about the things she likes, leaving Dipper to reel her in. If it ever came to it she’d happily leap to his defense, dazzling her enemies with incredibly bright but no less powerful spells, terrifying them with nightmarish illusory creatures, and leaving them dazed and horrified by the whirlwind of visions she easily slings.
-Both twins are charming on the surface, and easily win over the townspeople. The regular plot happens with Gideon, but they end up overpowering him and take the amulet for themselves, using it and the magic they learn to do shows. The Mystery Shack quickly becomes the most popular show in town, and Gideon’s rivalry becomes one of winning his audience—not just Mabel—back. He summons Bill to help him with this, but the twins’ knowledge of magic by this point is so great even the demon has trouble besting them—or wanting to. They’re too useful to ruin. Yet.
ParaNorman
-Norman is much angrier in the AU, but he keeps it bottled up so on the surface, he seems calm, and he tries to act like nothing bothers him. He’s actually stunned when Neil seems to enjoy hanging out with him, and he almost dares not entertain the hope of a real friendship at last. But when the events of the movie start to unfold, and he’s saddled with a duty he never asked for, that anger starts to bubble to the surface. It finally comes to a head on the steps of the town hall, when Norman has learned of Aggie’s fate and is rightfully angry at the entire town. He brings both groups together to call them out, but he can’t make his point clear and the mob charges, weapons in hand…. No one steps forward to back him up. Neil, who he thought might be a real friend at last, is nowhere to be seen, and his family is nowhere near him—so alone, angry, and betrayed, and facing the relentless fury of a mob that doesn’t care he’s only 11, he reacts exactly how Aggie did 300 years ago. But even that is not enough. In the end, the zombies are annihilated. Aggie, her tormentors destroyed, goes back to sleep or finally moves on—no one knows for sure. And Norman—gravely injured by the mob—runs away, not quite dead but not exactly alive either, his awakened power unstable and making him even more of an outcast than before as even the ghosts fear him. He is more alone now than ever, and maybe, he thinks, that’s for the better.
-Neil is still one to let things roll off his back, but his reasons for wanting to hang out with Norman are not so kind; he wants the medium to help him communicate with his dog but that’s all. When things get hairy with the zombies, he blames Norman for the debacle and when his ‘friend’ needs him most at the town hall, he’s too afraid to step forward and take his side before the angry mob.... After the incident, he pretends he never knew the kid.
Coraline
-Coraline is resentful her parents would rather spend their time on a gardening catalogue than her after a move halfway across the country, so when the Other Mother invites her into her domain, she’s grateful for the escape. She even almost says yes to the buttons just to leave everything behind, but she holds back, plotting to kill the Beldam and perhaps take this other world for herself. With Wybie’s help she succeeds, becoming the new overseer of the pocket dimension, and spends some time learning its ins and outs. And once she figures out how, she shares some of her power with Wybie, since having all the power and only one person to play with is no fun. They are now queen and king of their own universe, and for a while they entertain themselves with monsters and robots and epic battles, remaking the world again and again as they see fit. But this power comes at a price; they quickly realize that as tasty as it is, none of the food they eat seems satisfying…. It would seem their energy now comes from stealing lives and souls of anyone foolish enough to sign them away to the two. Coraline is at least a little horrified, but Wybie assures her it simply means her life will always be exciting and interesting, and that is enough to comfort her—for now. She eventually figures out that with their power split, they can leave the pocket dimension and sort of carry it with them, and since the likelihood of finding ‘food’ at the Pink Palace any time soon is slim, they escape and take to the roads. Coraline’s bag is her portal to the Otherworld; together with Wybie, she can also make larger doors out of pre-existing objects as long as they have a keyhole—be it an actual keyhole or just something that can be pretended as one.
-Wybie is more into inventing battle robots and the darker side of the occult than his canon self. He enjoys catching and tormenting insects rather than just taking silly photos with them, and he’s much snarkier, easily matching wits with Coraline, eventually building a relationship that ranges from rivalry to partners in crime. Like in the movie, he initially thinks Coraline is crazy when she talks about the Beldam, but then when the monster’s hand attacks them, and Coraline asks him to help her kill it for good, he’s more than happy to help—especially since helping means gaining a share of the power bestowed on the inhabitants of this space between worlds. At first he spends his time building an arena and the fiercest battle-robots he can conceive, but when it becomes clear living in this world comes with a price, he has to work with Coraline to figure out how to get around this little issue. They sort it out, and he joins her on the road, happy to leave his sheltered life with his grandmother behind. Wybie’s portal to the Otherworld is a bag he also uses to carry tools and supplies; he sometimes calls robots from it as needed.
-Coraline makes her toys and things out of mud as well as taking up the Beldam's needle and thread, while Wybie styles himself after a mad scientist and invents all kinds of gadgets to aid him. Both suspect being part of the Other is slowly draining their humanity, but they're having too much fun to worry about what it might mean.
Psychonauts
-Raz still wants to be a Psychonaut, but it’s less of a dream as a singular goal. He wants to leave everything to do with the circus and his old life behind, so when he learns his dad is coming to take him back, he does everything he can to win favor, working diligently to collect power-ups and learn skills so that the Psychonauts will have no choice but to accept such a talented psychic into their ranks. He’s much more serious, not focused so much on looking cool or meeting his idols as learning everything he can to become the greatest Psychonaut ever. He rebukes Lili’s affections entirely, doesn’t help or make friends with any of the other campers, and when Oleander’s plot unfolds, anger at his education getting derailed fuels his drive to go through the asylum across the lake. He helps the inmates to get what he needs and bolster his career, not out of kindness, and doesn’t care what they do otherwise. Everything else goes about as it does in canon, but Raz feels the Meat Circus only proves his anger at his father is justified; he confuses the insults the nightmare version of his dad hurls at him for memories he must’ve blocked, so when his dad actually makes it through his mental walls to try to help, the kid holds nothing back. Fueled by rage, Raz brings the nightmarish circus down on the nightmare dads as well as his real one, booting him out and leaves himself with a wreck of memories and fear. He eventually recovers, and buries the trauma deep, so that when asked to be a Psychonaut at last, he seems fine and fit for duty; little does anyone know he’s possibly an Oleander 2.0 who’s still full of anger and resentment and may work it out in dangerous and foolish ways. He uses too much force, and while he gets jobs done they’re mostly incomplete or could’ve been resolved better. He’ll be one of the great Psychonauts as long as he doesn’t burn himself out trying to gain approval, but the title of ‘greatest’ will elude him.
-Lili is still instantly charmed when Raz makes his appearance on the camp stage, but rather than distance herself aloofly, she secretly follows him around camp and investigates alongside him unnoticed until she helps Raz confirm his suspicions about Oleander’s plot. Her attempt to find more clues to help Raz is what leads to her capture, and though she’s a capable psychic either way, Linda’s psychic defenses are too much. However, when Oleander shows up in the asylum tower, Lili gives him no chance to speak, immediately slamming the conspirator against the walls with rage-fueled telekinesis and nearly sets him alight, but Milla intervenes, sending both kids down in a psychic bubble as usual. When Raz flatly rebuffs her confession of love, her anger is ignited again, though this burns slow and she hides it under smiles and a new goal: she’ll get Raz to return her affections eventually, one way or another. It’s not like he has a choice.
-When Raz is partnered with Lili, he tolerates it because as clingy as she is, she’s still powerful and smart, keeping up with him easily. They’re a force to be reckoned with in battle, but easily get carried away and have to be reined in by their superiors or they risk doing more harm than good.

And that's that; pretty much the point of a Reverse AU is angst and sadness and there's plenty to be had here, that's for sure. My headcanons for the Pines and Norman are informed by the Reverse AUs that at least were popular for a time, but I've done my own take on them here; and I never saw much for the Psychonauts or Coraline, or cared for what I did, so I've mostly written those from scratch. I might do a little more with the Reverse AU in the future since it presents a few intriguing ideas, but this'll be it for now. I'd like to see what other people might do with it though, so feel free to do your own take-- just be sure to let me know about it! ^^

magi!Sinbad and king!Judar for my friend

Raphael has some reservations about the scars on his human-shaped corporation, since higher ranking angels deem they are unsightly flaws.
He has no fear showing the largest one to Azeroth, for he trust the demon more than his own peers, who would accept any flaws he had regardless.
Ok ok! There’s all the change the villain to the hero fics which are wonderful!! But imagine,
The entire Eight Precepts of Death, Chrono, Mimic, and Overhaul as hero’s in a hero agency called the Shie Hassaikai.
It’d be so op and amazing! Change nothing about their personalities, maybe less violent, but boom!! Successful heroes!
Chisaki and Chrono would definitely stay ‘in the shadows’. Not doing much actual hero work, they just manage the business mostly.
Mimic focuses on the finances while also doing hero work, not much though.
Nemoto works with the police a lot, so he’s their bridge if their ever needed.
Rappa, Kastukame, and the Trash Trio (Setsuno, Tabe, and Hojo) are the poster boys basically. They rack in the most big bucks and have the most publicity. Tengai is too but less so.
Slosh works the night patrol but stays away from civilians because of his quirk. Often, Nemoto will join if he is not needed by police.
Unlike most agencies, they aren’t sidekicks. They are each separate pro heroes that grouped up for an agency. Similar to Kamui Woods, Mt Lady and Edgeshot, but to an extreme.
Most of their outfits are the same, but Nemoto changes the cloak for a suit during the day. The masks are used but not worn except when on missions and patrol.
Despite being not the most popular of the group, Overhaul is in the top ten, maybe number 3. He wasn’t happy when he found out bc he hates publicity, it makes him feel dirty.
Occasionally, there will be a rumor or accusations of shady dealings but they shrug them off. (Sometimes there are shady dealings, but nothing illegal.)
Overhaul has a personal moto when dealing with trigger happy villains. ‘It isn’t murder if they’re don’t stay dead.’
Now, he never uses his quirk like this in public but has removed and replaced hands before. He tries to make it so no one can see it though.
They don’t use it but they have loads of blackmail on every hero angency and high ranking pro. They know everything.
They share any new information but don’t actually use it. Though, if they don’t find anything, they’ll send a care package without a label and a congrats card.

(P.S. I decided to rename the AU to Reverse AU)

What will you do?

jlaire reverse au! more under the cut

This is yet another AU i’ve imagined… Reverse Aged-Up Trollhunter AU ✨ whoozie
It’s her senior year at Arcadia Oaks High when suddenly Claire finds the Amulet of Daylight becoming the first human trollhunter.
In this AU, think of Claire as the gorgeous punk introvert and Jim as the golden retriever extrovert.. he can cook, do first aid, super kind, tall and handsome?! every girls dream right? and Claire’s (not so) secret crush.
She’s friends with Toby early on because of their amazing sibling chemistry and Toby’s natural charisma— he likes to help (and tease) her with her little crush on Jim.
Eventually you can imagine our iconic trio together fighting stony crime: trollhunter claire, warhammer toby, and shadow magic jimmy jam
I have lots of ideas for this fic and I’d get all into the nitty gritty but I’ll spare you haha, hope you enjoy this snippet 🤪
