It's so funny how, early in tgcf, everyone around Xie Lian keeps going on about "oh, beware the blade Eming. It is a wicked weapon forged through a horrifying blood ritual." But we later find out Hua Cheng only ever hurt himself in the process of creating it, and he did so in order to save human lives.

Meanwhile, there's one weapon in the series that WAS forged through a horrifying blood sacrifice, and it's Xie Lian's own sweet little Ruoye

Ruoye must have been one of the strangest spiritual weapons Mu Qing had ever seen, and in 800 years time, he had seen quite a lot. Truth be told, its master wasn’t any less strange, so it shouldn’t surprise him, really.
