i think i’ve made this post before but i’m sick and loopy so reminder:
tom and maddie hear from sonic late on saturday assuring them everything is fine
they next they hear from him is sunday noon-afternoon when he’s suddenly trapped in siberia with a new alien brother who is passed out and robotnik is back and trying to kill him
sonic gives them a 20 second rundown before running to tails. in this rundown, he does not mention knuckles
they are then kidnapped by the government and the only thing sonic cares about is tails. so he does not mention knuckles here either
sonic then immediately leaves, saying only that “robotnik has the emerald.” he does not mention knuckles once again
tails wakes up, tries to go after sonic, and then immediately hijacks a plane. it is not a stretch to imagine he does not mention knuckles either
tom and maddie are flown back to their hometown which is being blown up by a madman with superpowers. they see tails and sonic fly in on the plane that tails stole. this is after knuckles jumped off the plane so they do not see him there
meaning they do not see knuckles ONCE prior to the climax of the movie
the first time tom and maddie wachowski see knuckles the echidna is when he runs out of nowhere to tell them that their son is possessed
So y'all just read the new chapter of this fic and... God, it's too much for my heart. Really thank you very much @humanityinahandbag and @samthefrank for this great story.

@samthefrank and I were so excited to drop this newest chapter, especially seeing as we've just revealed that a sequel is right around the corner!
In the meantime, Sonic and his brother's need to have a long awaited talk. Thankfully, being stuck on a couch with the flu sometimes helps along with that process.
