Back? Cool, I have thoughts.

I desperately wanted to love this but there are just some execution issues that I'm struggling to get past.

STANDING NEXT TO YOU

I actually didn't mind this performance much, still don't really care for the song but it's just not to my personal taste. This was the best application of JK purposely putting down the mic though, having him place it on the table. I always get just a little cringe when he puts it on the floor in the other performances but I have a suspicion it's supposed to be an enticing move that just does nothing for my ace self.

I still don't understand why there are so many dancers with JK. Especially on this small stage, it just looks crowded. Thus song is supposed to feel a little more intimate but the juxtaposition with so many others on stage with him is just awkward.

I got so excited when I saw the first JK duplicate! This type of filmmaking requires planning and preparation and I know the BTS production team is capable of some pretty cool visuals....but apparently the intended direction was to make the audience feel as seasick as possible while staring at a screen? What is with the continuous Dutch angles and floaty zooms?? Oh it's so bad. I can tell there was a great idea but it's just so poorly executed...

I absolutely DESPISE the 'mute' method of censoring in songs. As much as I dislike the rap in this song, I'd so much rather hear it than the abrupt muting of specific words. Pretty sure there's something happening psychologically that makes me fill in the gap mentally and then those individual words stick around longer but with no context. I realize they do it because they need to comply with some broadcasting policy but I wish never again to hear a clean version of ANY song with this approach, fill it in with something else or don't do it.

But THIS song absolutely makes sense to have so many dancers, and they've allocated enough space for it.

CLOSER TO YOU

I wish I hadn't been spoiled as to this song being in this performance. It would have been a great moment of wonderment when a song other than the titles was about to start. Oh well, had to be in esrly meetings.

So...um...I understand the vision for this performance and it's actually an interesting idea with this song but...how do I say this nicely... This was completely reliant on JK's acting abilities to walk that fine line to not get into actual creeper territory and while JK is a great performer, he's really not that great of an actor. The edit didn't help him much either.

I'd like to end on a positive note though and go over some of the things that were great with this performance.

The set design! Absolutely gorgeous! Excellent idea and blocking for joining these songs into a cohesive performance.

The lighting! Oi, whomever was in charge of this, they did a great job! Absolutely perfection functionally for coverage and to support the storytelling.

That's it though...there will absolutely be some gorgeous stills and gifs that can come from this material. (not my crappy screen records, see someone else for the good ones! Lol) Overall this performance has continued the Golden theme of a great idea with some execution issues.

STANDING NEXT TO YOU (Usher Remix) REACTION

OK, I really don't want to be a blog that just crashed on everything JK releases, but I do just have one tiny point to share about this Remix. Overall, I don't hate it or live it; it's just very benign in the context of remixes we've gotten this year and I still don't care for SNTY at all but not enough to hate it.

This Remix highlighted something for me that I only had hints of with the JT 3D Remix. Obviously a LOT of GOLDEN album was an homage to Michael Jackson and I honestly believe that Usher is the closest they could get to a current artist that most embodies that style...so cue the Remix. Just like we had JT on 3D which was a song CLEARLY in his style.

The thing is, when they incorporate the artist that was the inspiration of an homage...it feels just wrong to me. A little like when you have to explain the punchline to a joke. Like we GOT it, we didn't need any handholding. Is it just me that feels this way??

Okay, that's my one point. I do foresee that the same kind of ppl that enjoyed the JT Remix will love this one too. I don't mind hearing it but I think it's more out of fatigue than anything; I'm just sick of being disappointed by JKs work this year

Standing Next to You Promotions Sketch

I just watched this and had just a few thoughts to share. Watch it first if you haven't!

It is SO nice see JK so happy again. I don't know maybe it's the distance or I just am looking at things in a better light in 2024 but I felt like JK came across so much better in this sketch than any of the others for his promotions.

We see him excited about changing little bits in the choreo.

We see him excited with the camera placements and joking around with the staff.

It was only toward the end that I felt like he was getting a little tired but wasn't he pretty sick by that point too? We know JK gets frustrated when he doesn't feel like he's reached his potential.

Overall, I still don't care for SNtY but this vid was a delight to watch.

I also believe they were referring to Standing Next to You. JK mentions concerns he has about dancing alone when JM compliments how effortless he makes the dance look. Aside from JKs obvious solo scenes, there is a bit in the mv that JK would likely have recorded alone and the dancers were edited in.

This youtuber mentions it briefly if y'all would like to see a little more on it.

one thing i did not understand about the jeju timeline was that how is it possible they were in jeju by 26th september and jungkook said that as soon as he would go back to seoul he had to shoot the 3D music video but the 3D mv was out by the 29th? so in a couple of days they shot edited and premiered the mv? that never happens usually

actually let's not forget he also went home to busan after jeju so basically there were no days in-between to do anything

i either have all my dates wrong or the translation was wrong and he was not going to film the MV but something else related to the song

Anon, I’m actually at that part of the episode right now, and Jungkook didn’t specify which MV he was going to film when they got back to Seoul. Jungkook did film the MV for his song 3D in September, but I think that was before his trip to Jeju. I’m assuming he was referring to the video for SNTY. A few weeks after that, he travelled to Budapest to do exactly that, right? So I guess Jungkook just wanted to watch his diet because that was coming up.
