STOP HATING ON GWEN STACY

I deleted Tumblr off my phone so I’m suffering through the web browser for this, but I just read another one of those fanfictions and it’s DRIVING ME NUTS!!!

Yes, Gwen broke Miles’s trust. Yes, they will have to rebuild their friendship.

BUT SHE DIDNT DO THE WRONG THING

Think about it. Gwen is homeless. Gwen is alone. She has been failed by every single adult in her life. She can’t go back to her world—her dad was pointing a gun at her when she left. What is she supposed to do? if she even sets foot in Miles’s universe without permission, she will be homeless.

but let’s go to the main point:

GWEN ACTUALLY BELIEVED SHE WAS DOING THR RIGHT THING

Miguel saved her. She trusted him. And he told her that Miles was an anomaly, that his dad was going to die, and that her dad was going to die, and if they tried to go against it the world would end. She is SEVENTEEN YEARS OLD for crying out loud!! You can’t put that on her shoulders. She probably thought she was protecting Miles by staying away—except she couldn’t stay away, not forever.

Gwen doing the wrong thing? That wasn’t not talking to Miles. She thought she was protecting him. She knew he’d try to save his dad, and she really believed his entire world would collapse—maybe even with him in it.

Miles was better without Gwen Stacy messing up his life, wasn’t he?

and, finally, the last point:

GWEN BELIEVED MIGUEL’S PROPAGANDA SO BADLY THAT SHE DIDNT DO ANYTHING ABOUT HER OWN DAD

we know Gwen adores her dad, even after the gun incident (you can see it in ATSV when Miles confronts her about it) it breaks her heart. But she was so brainwashed by Miguel that for even the person she probably loves the most in the world, she wasn’t going to do anything—lest their universe collapse.

Maybe Gwen did betray Miles’s trust. But he never got to hear her side of the story. So I’m sick of these fanfictions featuring Gwen grovelling for his forgiveness, because Gwen isn’t the criminal, she’s the victim, and while they do need to talk the only person that should be grovelling is Miguel.
