Honestly, I completely ship Miles x Gwen (nobody can see ATSV and NOT do it) but that’s not the focus of the movie. Whoever obsesses over it misses the big picture.
One thing I can’t reconcile about them just jumping in into being a couple is that if you do the math, they have spent less than a month together. They hardly know each other, and that’s the sad truth. Does Miles know Gwen’s favourite color? Does Gwen know Miles’s favourite foods?
But I would say they know enough about each other to love each other, with potential for so much more. Obviously they long for each other, but not in the romantic sense at all. Their theme is FRIENDSHIP. Gwen can’t lose another FRIEND, not another LOVER.
Even with all this, it’s obvious that Gwen loves Miles, and that Miles loves Gwen, and that they missed each other a lot. They’re also definitely crushing on each other. But don’t focus on the romance so much you miss the true beauty of their story: their friendship that spans across universes. They’re both lonely and they both found support in each other (as short as those ten minutes of screen time were)

Edit: I personally wouldn’t go as far as to say it’s toxic, but them becoming a couple with as many problems as they have would definitely NOT go well. If they want to have any chance of being together and keeping this precious friendship, they both need growth, which is why in BTSV they would have to reconcile early in the movie if we want any hope of obvious romance, though since that may appear forced, I’m more inclined to believe that they’ll just end on a more hopeful note instead.

ok so yes im not that big on shipping and i think its toxic and rewatching atsv for like the third time it had me thinking a LOT about them in the first hour
as we know gwen misses miles and miles misses gwen yada yada yada we know that already thats no surprise
but the thing that gets me is when they first reunite it started as friendly, like ‘hey! i haven’t seen you in a minute, how are you? tell me what’s happened in the last year.’ and then when they got to the clocktower and gwen stated ‘in every other universe gwen stacy falls for spiderman, and in every other universe it doesnt end well.’ and it slowly falled into something more romantic and something blooming that they wanna be a little more than friends
THE OTHER THING IS when we distinguish canon from fanon, i feel like some people make it seem like they were hopelessly in love since the ending of itsv which isnt true, cause when youre a loner and basically have no friends i dont think you tend to jump to love when you meet someone else, but i dont doubt they have a connection
so basically: fanon is more dramatic and straight forward than canon (this is very obvious ☠️) (i mean fandoms are supposed to source delusions so)
as gwiles as a whole, i dont think they’ll get together in btsv cause i cant really imagine a scenario that stays in line with the original plot of the trilogy
so i think theyll stay friends but share a lil sumn sumn at the ending like a hug or smooch maybe
i think people forget that love as a whole doesnt always mean romantic, you love your friends, family, etc. and they love each other somewhere inbetween platonic and romantic but idk we will see in btsv if they shift to one side or the other (pav’s ‘will they wont they?’ kinda foreshadows this)
the thing is i feel like their relationship is very confusing
like when you look at it from the screen’s pov it really just seems like they miss each other and wanna be friends and have a possible do-over
but when you look at it from say rio’s pov when shes fixing miles up to go see her, you can see that miles likes her a whole lot and doesnt want to be separated from her again
its honestly just a matter of perspective
plus sony is playing us theyre letting us see them as romantic and platonic

I deleted Tumblr off my phone so I’m suffering through the web browser for this, but I just read another one of those fanfictions and it’s DRIVING ME NUTS!!!
Yes, Gwen broke Miles’s trust. Yes, they will have to rebuild their friendship.
BUT SHE DIDNT DO THE WRONG THING
Think about it. Gwen is homeless. Gwen is alone. She has been failed by every single adult in her life. She can’t go back to her world—her dad was pointing a gun at her when she left. What is she supposed to do? if she even sets foot in Miles’s universe without permission, she will be homeless.
but let’s go to the main point:
GWEN ACTUALLY BELIEVED SHE WAS DOING THR RIGHT THING
Miguel saved her. She trusted him. And he told her that Miles was an anomaly, that his dad was going to die, and that her dad was going to die, and if they tried to go against it the world would end. She is SEVENTEEN YEARS OLD for crying out loud!! You can’t put that on her shoulders. She probably thought she was protecting Miles by staying away—except she couldn’t stay away, not forever.
Gwen doing the wrong thing? That wasn’t not talking to Miles. She thought she was protecting him. She knew he’d try to save his dad, and she really believed his entire world would collapse—maybe even with him in it.
Miles was better without Gwen Stacy messing up his life, wasn’t he?
and, finally, the last point:
GWEN BELIEVED MIGUEL’S PROPAGANDA SO BADLY THAT SHE DIDNT DO ANYTHING ABOUT HER OWN DAD
we know Gwen adores her dad, even after the gun incident (you can see it in ATSV when Miles confronts her about it) it breaks her heart. But she was so brainwashed by Miguel that for even the person she probably loves the most in the world, she wasn’t going to do anything—lest their universe collapse.
Maybe Gwen did betray Miles’s trust. But he never got to hear her side of the story. So I’m sick of these fanfictions featuring Gwen grovelling for his forgiveness, because Gwen isn’t the criminal, she’s the victim, and while they do need to talk the only person that should be grovelling is Miguel.

"I requested a seperate room" He spoke, apologeticly
"Yes", I muttered acknowledging him, he shifted on his feet "I should-" he started "Yes" I said turning away from him, "Yes" he replied leaving swiftly, I closed the door with a heavy sigh.
I paced as I contemplated my feelings, I think I love Miles, he makes me feel beautiful, thats the problem... he loves Gwen, everyother spiderman always loves Gwen.
Noone's PoV
Miles, too was pacing for different reasons, 'I've loved her since Miguel brought her in, since the moment our eyes locked as she greeted everyone...But she does not love me, i almost thought she did, this mission -Miguels almost evil for it- showed me a side of her I have never meet, a side I adore' he thought, as he quicked his pace, the tux he wore hugged his biceps as he raised his hands to his face to wipe it painstakingly.
Both they're pacing stopped, at the exact same time, in the exact same spot, as if they were in the same room, closure they both needed it, Miles was quick to her door, just as she opened the door to step out.
"I-" He started, cut off by he opening the door wider and muttering 'come in' almost bashful."I- we should head to dinner, I saw a chinse place across the roa-" He suggested, wanting to ease the tension -beating around the bush-.
"I do not want any dinner!" She was angry, rightfully so, Miles had avoided her each night after leaving the mission sight, like she didn't matter, like...he didn't care.
"I have spent the last few nights, wanting to be alone with you, wanting to talk to you, wanting to know!" she mumbles the last part as if he shouldn't hear, he stays silent, not knowing what to say or do, "I understand...that you do not want to talk to me, that am annoying, we should get that ch-" she answers for him, "Bug!- that is not what I want...you are mistaken" He uses the nickname he gave her, to mask as the perfect couple, it felt wrong to part with it so easily.
"Miles...you have avoided me after each mission....you've said but a few words to me-" she says, her lip quivers slightly, "To keep myself from saying the wrong things" He gestures to his mouth as he speaks, "You cant even look me in the eye-" hanging her head as if she realized a cruel fate, "I can't bring myself to when all I see is pain I caused", he's deafeated, fighting himself from lifting your head.
"I am the one who forced you into that position" she argues, "No- I forced you" He clarifies, "I have spent the last nights in agony, cause I knew you wanted nothing to do with me, I made this mission difficult and long and it was just a Recon" miles wiped his hand against him chin, "It was supposed to be easy, fake date in, break up and you collect info after flirting with the Target, No strings attached and yet-" he chokes.
"and yet-...this could not be anymore different, is that what you hoped to say?" she finished, lifting her head to gaze in his eyes, any hope she had for her feelings slowly disappearing as she turned away from him, "Chinese sounds good, we should head out-" she changes the subjected as she picks an oufit from her suitcase.
"Everything i said at the club was true", his words came out, abruptly, she turned to face him, but before she spoke "I cannot stop thinking of you....from the mornings you wake, to the evenings you sleep, to the dreams you inhabit…my thoughts of you never end. I am yours, Bug. I have always been yours." he speaks the truth, whats in his heart.
She blinks once, twice, "I don't understand" more as a statement, she does understand, she just doesn't believe it. "I do not know how to be any more clear!" Miles says, frustrated as to how he can explain his feelings, no, feeling.
" Don't get angry!" she counters, "I am not angry." "I…You look angry...look at you, you're flushed." "Yes, that is what happens." "When your is angry?!" She shouts, "When one burns for someone who does not feel the same!", He finally shouts, "You… burn for me?", she's confused, what about Gwen.
"Why do you think I got jealous?" he questions to answer the unspoken question, "Why do you think I made you jealous?" she murmurs "If you would have only looked at me this week for longer than two seconds, you would have seen...It is you I cannot endure-" He's cut off, "I Burn For You" she finishes for him, for them, for eachother.
They lean into eachother, as they're lips meet it speaks volumes, passionately, everything they needed to say, I Burn for You, always.

ghostflower headcanon: gwen is obviously fond of physical affection, so i like to think she's super cuddly with people she trusts. like, i think of her as the person equivalent of a lap cat. miles will be trying to work on something but if he stays still long enough she will just lay on top of him and refuse to move.

Currently on the verge of tears because I just can't stop thinking about how Ghostflower's first kiss is probably so awkward and full of smiles and giggles and trembling hands that don't know where to be.
Like Gwen is obviously the one that initiates the first kiss, let's be honest.
They'd be hanging out in the rooftop of a building and she'd have to go back home for some emergency, so she says goodbye and they hug, she walks towards her portal and then before Miles can react she's kissing him deeply before quickly putting her mask back on and running through the portal, leaving a dumbfounded Miles standing there, trying to understand what just happened.
They stop talking for like a week after that, too busy with their own stuff, but they still lay in bed looking at their watches, wondering if going to the other's universe at 3:28am would be a good idea.
The first time they actually kiss without running from each other they're in Miles' room, just joking around and mocking each other. Gwen is punching him as a joke and Miles acts all offended, he then plops himself down on Gwen and hugs her so she stops, they stop laughing for a moment and just look at each other's eyes, big smiles painted on both of their faces.
Miles looks at Gwen's lips and she does too, the proximity making their stomachs overflow with butterflies.
Both go in for the kiss, and boy is it awkward.
They are both trembling with excitement, their smiles make it kind of difficult to kiss properly, Miles turns his head to one side and Gwen does too so they're just moving their faces trying to find a position that's not making their necks hurt like hell.
Eventually Miles let's go of Gwen and his hands are on both side of her body on the bed, though she doesn't know what to do with hers. Hesitantly, she puts them around his neck and if you could see how shaky her hands were you'd be considering calling an ambulance. Miles puts one of his hands on her waist, his touch so soft and delicate as if he held her harder she'd disappear just like she did years before.
Anyways, it almost turns into a full on make-out session if it weren't for their spidey-senses alerting them that Rio was just about to enter the room and they were each on the opposite extremes of the room in seconds, really. Sometimes being Spiderman and Spiderwoman have their perks.
Rio comes in and asks them if they want some pizza or something and they're just laughing and telling her they're fine with the biggest smile and their face as red as a tomato, both avoiding each other's gaze.
When she leaves they burst out laughing and cover their faces in embarrassment. It takes them a while to calm down, but when they finally look at each other they start laughing again. They stay like that until their stomachs and cheeks are hurting.
