I don’t think Oswald would call Jim “James” while they’re in a relationship.

Not as a replacement for Jim, not with any fondness. The only times Oswald ever calls him “James” is when he’s being passive aggressive as fuck to put distance between them and feign politeness/professionalism. Not everyone was strictly calling him “Jim” in the early days of Gotham and Oswald distinctly chose to call him “Jim” to go along with his old friend act. He continues to call him “Jim” because by acting like they’re friends he hoped to become friends and a shortened name indicates closeness. So why would he take a step back and start calling him “James” if he became his boyfriend? He’s more likely to be the type to say darling and dear and other pet names but mostly dear.
