We shouldn't only get involved in fights that directly affect us -we should fight for everything we believe in. I know it can sometimes be a lot. Not all communities even want help from 'outsiders'. But we have to stick together. 'Cause for everything that's different about us, there's something in common for everyone.
How can we expect ALL people to make changes for our closest causes, if we're not ready to step up out of our lane even a little bit for theirs? So today I speak for everything I see is wrong in this world. And you should too.
Let's be real; sometimes the flags and labels get confusing. This can be true for anyone, queer, or cishet, new to it, or a rainbow-veteran. And that's okay. I as a queer person am not obligated to know everything about gay subculture, it's imagery and language. More than that, no queer person should be expected to educate others about these matters. When they choose to do so, however, I advise you listen, even, no, especially where your views may differ. There is no absolute truth to these things in our quickly changing world. It is up to people themselves to choose the words they describe themselves with, and the imagery they feel best represents them. These things exist FOR them. For all of us, to communicate easier and feel safer, and more comfortable in our communities & our own skins. Not knowing the meaning of each slang word and color combination does not make anyone less valid. Using labels, and possibly changing them along the way to better fit, is good. Using a label that you feel describes you, even if someone disagrees, is okay. Choosing not to use labels at all is okay. These words are tools and you may use them however they best serve you. THAT IS THEIR PURPOSE.

Not all women menstruate Not only women menstruate
This seems to cause some confusion still, so let me crack it open a little..
Girls & elderly women before puberty & after menopause. Trans women. Pregnant people. People with menstrual disorders. Genderfluid & intersex people, who may or may not be women. Trans men. People of non-binary genders. Agender people.
Only marketing period products to cis-women causes many to feel uncomfortable & left out, and buying them (we damn need them still) can cause dysphoria & even put people in danger (see 'hate crimes') No woman I've talked to actually likes the pretty-pink girlboss -aesthetic for these hygiene products anyway. So we plead: GENDER-NEUTRAL MENSTRUAL CARE <3
Some days I will look into the mirror and see a stranger. Or looking back at me might be someone I've been searching desperately on another day, yet now grieve to see. It is not that I'm a stranger to myself, my soul I know, but these expressions, they don't belong on a face I'd read as mine. This form betrays me. These feet can't carry, and this voice can't say.. it frustrates me. And I search. I run these fingertips across it, sometimes enjoying bits of it, sometimes wondering if there's somehow I might mold it to better fit. But the truth is there's nothing much wrong with the body. I might admire it even, were I not trapped in it. But it doesn't feel like it should belong to me, doesn't feel right on me.
People point out the dreadful John/Joan case, (dr. Money did do useful research in his time too, but, ew) and somehow frame it as evidence against trans people. Absurd, since the results are actually proof, that neither sex & biological factors, nor the environment (upbringing, social roles etc.) affect our gender -just the extend to which we're comfortable expressing & discussing it. Poor David was a boy. He didn't turn into a girl, despite the sex reassignment surgeries, and being shoved into the feminine mold by his social surroundings. Which made him extremely uncomfortable. (I won't go into details, the life of the Reimer twins was a tragedy, but do read up, if you're interested.)
I've heard some extreme people claim we're 'making people (think they're) trans', or encouraging children to have surgery. I've never heard this happen, but it exists in these people's minds. I would agree; it's a terrible idea to actively try & change someone's gender experience. We shouldn't be messing with children's healthy genitals. No one should be forced to abide by gender roles. Thing is, that's exactly what the world is currently doing to many trans & intersex (as well as cis) kids. I wish the general public would understand how crucial this is.
how completely average and cisgender of me to write pages on pages about why I deserve to have surgery..
hey so I heard we were styling affirmations after accidental allies?
'gender' is made up pronouns are made up
I'm not 'cis' I'm not a 'birthing person' I'm not a 'penis haver'
I'm not confused
I'm not a 'real man' I'll never be a woman
