Day 3 of Classicstober: Asterion/The Minotaur
OK tbh his design is simple, man with bull head + basic chiton
not much to note
i think you can tell i’ve never drawn a bull before
not much else to say!! other than he was meant to be intimidating but ended up kinda cute
y’all have probably noticed i’m using the same base for the designs, but if i ever drew this guy again id try to make him muscular, just to fit with classic interpretations? idk what i’m doing

AUGHHHH I THOUVHT ABOUT THIS WHEN DESIGNING THE MINOTAUR AND ICARUS BACK IN CLASSICSCTOBER…..

Sons Of The Labyrinth or The Things Our Fathers Do To Us
transsexuals will be like is anyone else gonna relate to the minotaur
Dont worry my guy there are so many Glaucos’ in Greek myth including a random son of Minos who dies (there is also an ex-mortal sea god, Trojan war bestie to Diomedes ect, must be common name lol)
I think combining him with the Minotaur was a really interesting choice - and avoided the usual bestiality and rape-y aspects to the story of the Minotaur’s origin
He’s the main cause of the queens mental health issues because it’s a story about parenthood and monstrosity, love vs piety, instinct vs duty. Both Minos and Pasiphae have very different angles in this and it’s really interesting how the audience’s perspective on them shifts as more information is revealed to Ari
To read more about Glaucos son of Minos of Crete I’ve linked the Wikipedia article below! :)

I don't understand why they had Ariadne and Glaucos be siblings and be the main cause of Pasiphae's mental health issues

Man, that reminds me of how even when it comes to cartoon animals all the female ones have the exact same sexy alluring hourglass figure. I even saw a fish with big tits in a movie. Yes, you read that correctly. A fish. With tits!

Coincidentally enough, I actually wrote a whole post about Asterion a while ago. Glad I'm not the only person who believes that he deserved better.

When the artist doesn’t know the difference between Minotaur and Centaur:

Dude, even his face looks as if he regrets being painted like that.

“At last I saw it clear: the nose broad and flat. The shaggy, thick face crowned with two sharp horns. Below, the froggy baby body bucked with unnatural strength. It’s eyes were black and fixed on me.” - Circe, Madeline Miller
he is so precious i must reblog
