“Beyond that, memories have a way of changing on us. Souring or sweetening over time- like a brew we drink, then recreate later by taste, only getting the ingredients mostly right. You can't taste a memory without tainting it with who you have become.”
~Tress of the Emerald Sea, by Brandon Sanderson
“The man was exactly the sort of person who thought every woman in the room was thinking about him. Which they were, as each desperately hoped he would head the other direction.”
~Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson
IS THAT TRESS OF THE EMERALD SEA? PEOPLE GET EXPLODED FRM THE INSIDE BY VINES AND STABBED BY GIANT SPIKES

Also who put Gideon the Ninth on the cosy fantasy table. Absolutely nothing about Gideon could be mistaken for cosy

Either one is a good start, Mistborn is nice and self contained (or at least each series started has been finished), then has novels already written set in the future of the world, another full series. Stormlight (way of kings) has larger books, a very in-depth world, whose last one comes out this year. Considering you enjoyed Tress, and I assume have read/are reading Warbreaker, you could do either one, and enjoy both.
Mistborn I would say is a better jumping off point, as the full series is about as long as maybe two stormlight books, and then you can go to its next series or to Stormlight.
Also don't forget about Yumi when you get the chance.
Good luck finding me!

Hey. I’m kinda late to the Cosmere Universe party? Anyway, I decided to start with the standalone novels (I read Tress of the Emerald Sea last year and really liked it). I’m so intimidated by the amount of books Brandon Sanderson has written (this is coming from a huge terry pratchett fan). Should I read Mistborn next or Way of Kings? I really have no idea where to start!
Dougless
In Tress, Hoid mentioned that every world has the name Doug, but I don't recall there being any Dougs on Scadrial, Roshar, Nalthis, or anywhere else really. What's up with that?
Brandon Sanderson
Okay. Yeah, so this is something that's easy to miss. On Scadrial, Dockson is a Doug, his name is actually pronounced Dougson. On Roshar, Dunny is a nickname. Yeah. His name is actually Doug. And, maybe I didn't canonize this yet. Did I canonize this? [Whispers with Peter Ahlstrom] Alright, Susebron's mother's name is Doug. There, I've canonized it. Congratulations.

Finished Tress of the Emerald Sea a few days ago and I loved it so much!!! It was so whimsical and heartfelt! Plus Hoid as a narrator while having him basically useless through most of the book was so much fun to read!
