Summary: After getting into another fight, Wednesday has no choice but to come and get you.
Pairing: Wednesday x Reader

It was the second time this month, and you had somehow gotten into another fight?
At this point, Wednesday was beginning to think that you wanted another detention.
She had been on her way to drop off her botany assignment, finished early as usual, stopped by a familiar tap on the shoulder from Thing.
Her eyes flicked to her shoulder, voice hinting at irritation
“What is it now?”
Thing signed a couple times, and Wednesday’s eyes narrowed, a frustrated sigh escaping her.
“Y/N is fighting…again?”
Thing responded with a couple more taps, and she closed her eyes, summoning what patience she’d be able to have for you right now.
“She isn’t my problem, Thing. I have more important matters than deterring yet another trivial dogfight.”
Thing tapped again, growing impatient, almost tumbling from her shoulder when she halted abruptly.
“I do not care for Y/N, Thing, I merely keep Enid from going hysterical over her well-deserved wounds due to her lack of fighting skills.” -she fixed the hand with a cold glare - “Suggest something like that again and I will be locking you out of the dorm again.”
The hand stubbornly continued to sign, causing the raven’s eyes to narrow.
“I agree that Y/N lacks self-control but that does not mean I shall be taking responsibility for it.”
Wednesday began walking again, trying to ignore the ever-frequent tapping on her shoulder, that of which was becoming harder and more insistent.
You couldn’t be that hurt yet. You were tough (though she’d never admit it to you or anyone else). Despite this…she couldn’t ignore the fact that your abysmal fighting skills would indefinitely cause yet another concussion. She knew that you’d never let her or anyone else hear the end of it if you were walking around for the next couple of weeks with a head injury, complaining and whining annoyingly as you always did, and she did not have the patience to go through that again.
Wednesday also knew, irritatingly, that you would not listen to Enid, no matter what her roommate attempted to persuade you with; as close as you two were you tended to be infuriatingly stubborn at times, and now seemed to be one of them.
She turned and glared darkly at Thing, who was still tapping away insistently.
“This is the last time, and I will be doing it solely keep our sanity intact. Say otherwise and I will not hesitate to follow through on my threats.”
She was most certainly not doing this because she was concerned for your safety, which you obviously had no personal regard for.
If she was lucky she’d at least get to see some bloodshed.
As expected, upon entering the quad, there you were, beside the fountain, locked in a fight with a boy almost twice your size; obviously another werewolf by the size of him, and the untamed hair that nearly every male werewolf possessed.
Enid was among the couple of students watching, glaring at you as she looked for an opportunity to step in and pull you away; not that Wednesday thought you’d listen to her.
Wednesday noted disapprovingly that your hits were clumsy; surely this wasn’t the best you could do? She continued to watch as you swung left when you should’ve swung right, and caught a blow to the side of your stomach, rolling her eyes in disgust.
other students looked on with concern, worry, or perhaps exasperation, whereas Wednesday watched as her roommate tried desperately to pull you away from her opponent, the blonde’s eyebrows furrowing with frustration as her attempts were repeatedly proved useless, the faintest of smirks hinting at Wednesday’s lips as she watched her try and persuade you away from the fight, even though your eyes were alive with adrenaline, and what she thought to be a hint of sadism, blood dripping from your nose, and a wonderfully nasty bruise beginning to form on your cheek. Blood could look good on anyone, she observed, somehow even on you.
After about five minutes of what was clearly a pathetic attempt at fighting on your end, she let out a sigh of frustration and swiftly began moving through the quad toward you, muttering under her breath. With one hand she neatly grabbed your wrist and with enough force neatly yanked you backward, placing her heel firmly behind yours, which caused you to trip backward and onto the ground.
Ignoring your look of indignance and surprise, she stepped forward and dodged a swipe from your opponent, kicking out into his stomach and sending him reeling backward, glaring at him so fiercely that he didn’t dare try and fight back.
Turning to you, she fixed you with an equally cold glare, grabbing your wrist once more and pulling you up to your feet. Her eyes darted to the blood dripping from your nose, and the growing bruise on your face, and an irritated sigh escaped her. “What was it this time?”
“He wolf-whistled me,” your response was breathless through your pants, as the faint animalistic glow began to leave your eyes, signaling you were beginning to calm down.
“So you decided to fight him?” the raven raised an eyebrow, annoyed - “The least you could do is fight decently.”
You frowned slightly and began to respond before you were interrupted by Enid approaching, a visible frown of exasperation, annoyance, and concern on her face. Wednesday released your wrist, fixing you with that same cold glare before leaving you with Enid and exiting the quad, returning to her original task.
It was about ten or fifteen minutes later when Wednesday returned from the greenhouse, and when she opened the door to her dorm found you on Enid’s bed, with Enid tending to your wounds..
Ignoring both of you, she sat down at her desk, placing a sheet of paper in her typewriter. As she began typing, her eyes remained locked on the words being type, although unfortunately she couldn’t drown out your occasional grumbles or huffs.
*Smack*
“Ow! Enid, what the hell?!”
“Stop squirming!”
Wednesday continued typing, but the sound of your well-deserved little smack from Enid did bring a slightly sadistic hint of a smirk to her lips as she worked, though your already irritating little complaints were becoming more and more annoying.
“Silence would be appreciated,” she remarked coldly, still typing.
“You’re not going to pay any attention to me?” your voice came out slightly congested; clearly the bloody nose was catching up to you.
*smack*
“I said hold still!”
Wednesday couldn’t help rolling her eyes, continuing to type. The steady hum of her typewriter became more of her focus as she honed in on the sound of it rather than your grumbles; although she couldn’t deny that she enjoyed hearing your soft winces of pain every now and then.
As she tore one of the finished pages carefully from the typewriter and aligning it in the box containing her novel, you complained.
“You’re taking too long on purpose.”
Enid responded with a hint of impatience.
“Then stop wriggling so much! It’s like I’m bandaging a child instead of a damn werewolf.”
“I can do it myself, you know.”
“No, you can’t. If you were in charge here you’d just “let it heal on it’s own” and do nothing. Now shut up and let me work, I’m almost done.”
Wednesday exhaled through her nose; she most definitely did not want to help, but she needed you out of the room so she could focus, and Enid was taking a ridiculously long amount of time to finish what could’ve been done in five minutes.
Standing stiffly and pushing away from her desk, she walked over to Enid’s side, approaching you on the bed; upon closer examination, the bruise on your cheek was beginning to swell, though luckily the bleeding in your nose had stopped. Rolling her eyes, she glanced at Enid, raising an eyebrow.
“You didn’t consider getting an icepack?”
The blonde looked back up at her with a small, indignant frown - “it took me this long just to get Y/N’s nose to stop bleeding.”
Wednesday gazed over at you, eyes narrowing slightly as she sighed
“Thing, go retrieve an icepack from the cafeteria.”
The faint scuttling of the hand obeying her command gave her the confirmation to move on, and she reached out, touching your bruise firmly but carefully, causing you to wince and pull away.
“Stop moving, you’re acting like a child. Even Enid is tougher than you,” she remarked, causing a huff of annoyance from the blonde. “If you hadn’t been fighting in the first place this wouldn’t even be happening.”
Her eyes briefly flicked up from your bruise to your eyes as you responded
“It’s not my fault. He started it.”
“Do I even have to ask?” She muttered, eyes returning to examining the bruise, which, although it was swollen didn’t look too serious. “He was nearly three sizes bigger than you; the least you could do is choose an appropriate opponent.”
“I’d call it brave, taking on a guy that size and leaving him with the marks that I did.”
“Foolish, more like.”
You rolled your eyes, and her lip curled into the faintest of smirks. Thing returned promptly, balancing an icepack on top of him as he hopped atop the bed. Nodding once in thanks, she took it and wrapped it in a handtowel that Enid had prepared, handing it to you and watching with another sigh as you pressed it your cheek.
“Y/N, you gotta stop getting into these fights. Learn to control yourself,” Enid said with a disapproving frown, causing you to scrunch up your eyes with indignance,
“I do control myself.”
“Wrong.” Wednesday glared at you. “You’re impulsive.”
You glared right back up at her. Bold of you. “So are you.”
Wednesday’s eyes narrowed slightly, “I’m starting to believe you want to become a rug.”
“I would make a lovely rug,” you muttered, eyes darting away. Good.
You got to your feet, still holding the icepack in your hand, and looked down at Enid.
“Look, if it makes you feel better, I’ll try and ‘control myself’, better in the future, okay?”
Enid looked back up at you and her expression softened, as usual. She couldn’t stay mad at you for long. “Good. I don’t want you dying on me. Wolves gotta stick together, y’know?”
Wednesday could feel herself getting nauseous at the horrible cliche, and she frowned, eyes narrowing. “Just leave; I have work to do.”
You turned, a small smirk on your face as you mock-saluted, turning on your heel. “See you later, Dr. Addams.”
Rolling her eyes, Wednesday stared at the door for a moment, arms folded, before she noticed Enid with a huge smirk on her face, similar to yours. Raising an eyebrow, she frowned slightly, “what?”
“Nothing,” she said in her dreadfully sing-song tone, which the raven chose to ignore as she sat back down at her desk, returning to her novel, eyebrows furled in annoyance as it took her a moment to wipe the image of you covered in both your and your opponent’s blood from her mind. Odd. Blood really did look good on anyone.

Summary: After your fight last week you've been sentenced to community service in Jericho, and you take a break at the Weathervane for some peace and quiet
Pairing: Wednesday x Reader

“This stinks,” you muttered to yourself as you pulled a discarded paper cup from the sidewalk and placed it into your bag.
After your so called ‘dogfight’ a week before, you’d been sentenced by Weems to go out and do some community service in Jericho. On a Saturday. So unfair. So while you could’ve been drawing with Xavier and Eugene in the shed, instead you were stuck outside in the unusually hot September sun, picking up bits of trash, surrounded by normies, a few of those who’d give you dirty looks as they passed.
It wasn’t the act of simply cleaning up discarded trash and whatnot that bothered you; it was the fact that it was boring, hot, and unfair. Since when did a little fight deserve this cruel of a punishment? And on a Saturday? That was just cruel.
Grunting slightly, you moved your trash bag over to your right shoulder, kneeling slightly to grab a broken plastic spoon from a crack in the sidewalk. This punishment was stupid; there was barely any trash anyway. You’d been out here for nearly an hour and a half and yet your bag was barely half-full; was Weems just trying to make you suffer? Deep down you knew of course she wasn’t, but still. It felt good to complain about something while you were forced to endure this.
Your muscles still felt uncomfortably tight from your fight. Sure, you had given the other guy a pretty good whooping but even you couldn’t deny that he had beat the shit out of you; your bruise lingered on your cheekbone and jaw, and every time you moved too sharply your side ached. You could definitely go for a nice cool shower right now, but no. Today was not a good day.
Maybe Wednesday was right though. You weren’t the best at fighting, especially for a werewolf, which was pretty odd even to you. Sure, you could throw a decent punch, but couldn’t anyone? You wouldn’t admit it to her but you wished you were as good at fighting as Wednesday was.
Every time you thought of that fight you remembered the feeling of her eyes on you, examining you, thoughts and focus only on you.
It made that little bit of fur on the back of your neck rise and tingle, embarrassingly enough.
You were walking by Uriah’s Heap when you heard the bell at the door signaling someone exiting the shop, and you briefly glanced over your shoulder to see a young-aged man in a plaid button up with a gun slung over his shoulder exit the store. Eyebrows furling in slight disgust, you started to move on, trying to hustle away from him, but you weren’t fast enough and felt a hand clamp on your shoulder, followed by his voice
“Hey, you’re that Lyall kid, right?”
Eyes rolling with a little bit of disgust, without even looking behind you, you muttered, “you’ve got the wrong person,” stepping forward and away, but the man hurried to catch up beside you.
“No, no, I’ve seen you before, I swear.” The man’s eyes narrowed in concentration. “Aren’t you some kinda wolf freak?”
You started walking faster, getting irritated; you needed to control yourself or you were going to get into another fight and get punished even worse.
“I’m not supposed to be talking to people right now, okay?”
Completely ignoring what you had just said, the man walked alongside you, tone prodding you for information.
“You know, I’ve heard some pretty wild shit about you,” he grinned, showing a single gold tooth replacing one of his canines. “Aren’t you rolled up in that weird-ass school, Nevermore?”
Not wanting to seem rude, you just stared straight ahead as you walked, muttering, “yes.”
The man smiled, seeming pleased to get some sort of information out of you. “So what are you doing all the way in Vermont instead of in New Hampshire? With your daddy?”
“This school fits me better,” you responded stiffly, rolling your eyes again.
“What, because you’re a freak?”
Clearly this man was just trying to provoke you. And, annoyingly, it was working. You could feel that familiar bubble in your chest that made you want to get mad. Punch someone. Especially him. Yet, you knew that if Weems heard about you beating up a normie in town, your punishment would surely be so much worse. The man continued to pester you as you passed the antique shop, your eyes flickering to the gun strapped over his neck as you muttered, ready to be out of this conversation, “look, I gotta go.”
Without waiting for his response, you turned sharply and crossed the street, garbage bag thumping repeatedly against your back. Skirting around a parked car, you paused on the sidewalk, looking over at the man on the other side of the road, wondering if he was planning on following you. Relief flooded you and your stiff posture disappeared as you watched the man turn the corner and disappear.
Still a little on edge, you noticed that now you were right in front of the Weathervane. Hesitating, you debated your options. It was hot, you’d already been out there for a while, and you had to admit that what little trash there had been around town was now safely tucked in your bag. Surely you deserved a break at least?
You let out a long exhale of relief as you entered the shop, the air conditioning soothing your sore muscles from bending over all morning. The smell of coffee grounds was particularly strong and you felt yourself untense further as your fear started to melt. You headed for the counter, and then stopped short, immediately recognizing a familiar goth seated in one of the booths in the corner, eyes focused on a book in her hand as her mug sat beside her, seemingly untouched.
It took you a moment to pull your eyes away from Wednesday before you walked over to the counter, ordering yourself a hot chocolate as you let your bag drop to the floor. Pulling off your tight latex gloves, those of which you shoved in your pocket, you paid for your hot chocolate, thanking the kid working there, and headed straight for the table in the back.
When you approached her, you watched as Wednesday’s eyes didn’t move from what she was working on as she spoke. “Done already?”
“I should be,” you huffed, taking a sip of the hot chocolate. “It’s too damn hot.”
The raven raised an eyebrow, narrowing her eyes. “So you’re not done.”
Rolling your eyes, you shook your head, “I’ve been working for like three hours; it’s a cruel punishment.”
“Lucky you,” she muttered, turning back to her work as she spoke, writing a little bit more. Without asking, you slid into the booth opposite her, not noticing her turn on the page faltering slightly as you did so, adjusting yourself comfortably as you placed your hot chocolate down.
Not feeling much of a need to say anything, you just stayed silent, laying against the cool cushioned padding of the booth and taking a well deserved break, the sound of customers murmuring, coffee cups clinking, and the turning of pages doing well to add to the comfortable atmosphere.
You two both sat there in silence; Wednesday never once speaking as she worked, you relaxing with your eyes half closed, not noticing the raven’s eyes flicking up to observe you every now and then.
It was the most peace you had gotten the whole week and it felt good.
And you couldn’t deny that you were maybe watching Wednesday too. You weren’t being creepy at all, but you were just always drawn to those dark brown eyes, always filled with focus and concentration, and the sea of freckles dotting her cheeks. The way she read every single line as if she truly wanted to understand it; how she took notes every now and then, muttering under her breath as she did so. Hadn’t you ever called her pretty before? Because she definitely was.
The silence lulled on until it was broken by the ringing of the bell to the entrance of the shop, you turning your head to see Enid followed by Yoko enter; as the blonde spotted you and Wednesday, immediately that stupid grin came over her face; the one that you knew too well; she was up to something.
You rolled your eyes and turned away, returning to drinking peacefully and reluctantly realizing that this peace wasn’t going to last as long as you hoped.
You heard the sound of Enid skipping over to where you and Wednesday were sitting as Yoko approached the counter, with a cheerful “hiya, Willa! Didn’t know that when you left this morning you were going out for coffee with Y/N?” The blonde waggled her eyebrows suggestively, a smirk on her face as she looked between you two. Oh, she was so dead.
You had to bite down a smirk of your own as you saw Wednesday stiffen even more than she usually was, slowly looking up from her book to glare at Enid. Oh, if looks could kill the blonde would be six feet under right now, although both you and Enid knew that she’d never follow through on any threats she might make.
“I’m merely reading. I had no intention on Y/N being here, nor is this any form of…” - the raven paused, her eyes scrunching up slightly in disdain as she refused to say the word - “affectionate interaction. Y/N was fulfilling her assigned punishment and happened to interrupt me.”
This time you actually smirked when you saw Enid’s smug smile disappear and you stuck your tongue out at her, though that promptly resulted in you catching an elbow thrown into your side, you letting out an ‘oof’, and doubling over as Wednesday smirked slightly.
“You’re skimping out on your service?” Enid asked, tilting her head slightly in exasperation. “If Weems catches you…”
You cut her off, “even if she does find out, she’s got a soft spot for me. At the least I’ll get a detention. Simple.”
You heard Wednesday scoff softly, though she stayed silent otherwise.
Yoko shortly returned, with two drinks in hand, giving one to Enid. You watched as through her shades the vampire’s eyes studied both you and Wednesday, a tiny smirk appearing on her face, eyebrow raising slightly as she glanced between you two. Nodding once at the raven, who didn’t respond, as well as you, she gave Enid a little nudge on the shoulder. “Come on, E, let’s give ‘em some space.”
You watched as Enid gave you and Wednesday a wave goodbye, the latter of which met both Yoko and Enid with a glare that could’ve easily frightened any grown man. Both Enid and Yoko exited, leaving you and Wednesday alone.
“Idiots”, she muttered under her breath, eyebrows furrowed in slight annoyance. You chuckled softly and leaned back in the booth, resuming your own little trance of being comfortably aware of everything around you, your sensitive hearing picking up every single noise. The clinking of coffee cups. The sound of the machine whirring and hissing every now and then. The turning of pages. Soft murmurs of conversation.
It almost made you forget about the conversation you’d had earlier with that man.
It was after another good thirty minutes that you glanced down at your phone as it pinged, receiving a text from Weems notifying you that she would be picking you up in estimately thirty minutes.
Which meant that you had to leave.
Damnit.
Sliding out of the booth, you glanced at your phone and then at the door, sighing with disappointment as you grabbed your hot chocolate and downed the rest of it easily. You noticed how Wednesday’s eyes briefly flicked up to you as you started pulling your gloves on. “Going to complete your procrastinated duties?”
You nodded grimly with a small sigh, “I’m sure as hell not getting another detention this week.”
She hummed ever so softly, eyes falling back to her paper as she deadpanned, “if your behavior isn’t corrected than you surely will be.”
You didn’t even hesitate to give her a small kick to the shin, which was met with a harder one to yours in response, you groaning “don’t be a dick.”
Finishing with pulling your gloves on, you rubbed your sore shin with a grimace, shooting her a dirty look, though you had to look away to stop yourself from laughing, rolling your eyes at her smirk. You walked backwards with your bag, sticking your tongue out at her, causing her to roll her own eyes in response and return to her book as you exited the cafe, a grin on your face and the heat of the sun on your back not as prominent in your mind as it was before.
In your mind, you could still hear her turning the pages

Summary: Late to fighting practice, Wednesday tries to find you
Pairing: Wednesday x Reader

You were late.
What kind of ignorant fool could somehow be late to a meeting that they themselves had worked so hard to arrange? Of course, you, of all people, would be that fool.
Wednesday somehow found herself unsurprised.
A glance at the clock mounted high above the door in the fencing hall would show that you were late. Half an hour late. Wednesday’s lips pulled into an irritated frown as she paced the wooden floors, her footsteps echoing loudly throughout the room as she did so. Wednesday, of course, was one who enjoyed silence, welcomed it even, always particular to the peaceful atmosphere of a wonderfully and eerily quiet room.
The ticking of the clock accompanied the echoes of her footsteps as she continued to pace, occasionally glancing at the door or the windows, waiting for your arrival. Not hoping. Waiting.
The fact that you were supposed to be here and you weren’t was leaving a bad taste in her mouth. She hated the way that you could make her somehow unsatisfied with such a gloomy situation; what had you poisoned her with?
You had to have done something to her, surely. Consulted with Enid and Thing and injected her with a mind-altering fluid in her sleep. Slipped something into her coffee mug when she wasn’t looking. Cursed her with an ancient spell book discovered in the darkest reaches of the Nightshade library.
Wednesday was positive that you had done something to her, and she was not happy about it.
She continued to pace, frustration and, though she wouldn’t admit it, confusion. Where were you? Wasn’t this a priority to you? You had seemed so desperate to fight… you had offered her those flowers…
No. She was not going to think about the flowers right now.
The tip of her blade dropped slowly as she sighed, frustrated, and pulled the fencing helmet off of her head, tucking it under an arm as she fixed her messy bangs stuck to her forehead, a tinge of annoyance trickling through her as she arranged them once more.
If you had actually arrived on time like you’d said you would, she would’ve been able to follow through on her plans of terrifying you the second you stepped foot in the hall, scheming to jump you by the doorway with the tip of her blade pressed to your neck, to watch the thin line of blood she would be lucky enough to draw.
It would’ve been lovely to see some trace of fear in your eyes for once. Even a little. She would live for it. Especially if she could be the cause of it; she craved that moment.
But no, you just had to go and ruin her fun.
Neatly arranging her fencing gear back into her locker, that of which she closed and locked, Wednesday turned and promptly exited the dark and now empty fencing hall heading up the stairs and toward your dorm, boots clomping in the halls as the occasional group of students swerved to avoid her as she ducked into Dionysus hall, the one that you occupied.
The normally busy hallway was quieter than usual, most students already headed out for the weekend or in town for the evening, which was, admittedly, appreciated, but Wednesday was more focused on your whereabouts than the volume of the hall.
The raven didn’t even hesitate at your dorm door, opening it and storming inside as she looked around. On quick inspection she promptly discovered that you were nowhere to be found, surprisingly. She had expected you to be here, listening to music, drawing, or whatever you did in your free time, which she most definitely did not have memorized. Your bed, as usual, was messy. Empty. Your deskspace, equally messy and scattered with art supplies and assignments. Empty. The small space under the bed she’d discovered that you yet had to tell her about? Empty.
Where were you?
Sighing in annoyance, Wednesday whirled around and exited your dorm, closing the door carefully behind her as she set off for the quad, determined to find you. You were not getting away that easily.
The student population increased dramatically as the goth entered the quad, eyes scrunching slightly at the sudden lack of darkness.
The quad was lit well with string lights illuminating the space as a handful of students lingered around, chatting and laughing and mingling amongst one another - a nauseatingly cheerful scene. Wednesday scanned the small crowd carefully, eyeing each person with a precise eye. You were quite the social student, so she expected you to be here, laughing and goofing off as you typically did when you could be avoiding work.
But, as she observed the students, not seeing you with any of your friends, she realized that no, you were not here. Frowning, Wednesday approached Xavier, who was, as usual, buried in a sketchbook at one of the tables, scribbling away.
Stopping in front of him, she waited impatiently for the psychic to notice her. After a couple minutes, she realized he was too absorbed in his work and huffed, delivering a rough kick to his shin to make him look at her, arms crossing over her chest as she glared at him.
“Hello to you too, Wednesday,” Xavier groaned, rubbing his now-sore shin as he looked up at the raven, rolling his eyes. “What do you w-“
Wednesday didn’t even let him finish his sentence, cutting him off - “Y/N. Where is she?”
The psychic sighed and returned to sketching as he muttered, “she’s in the shed, last I saw her. She was working on some sort of art project I left her with. Haven’t seen her in a while.”
“She didn’t mention any plans that she had tonight?” Wednesday’s eyebrows furled.
“Oh, right, Y/N couldn’t stop talking about how you two were going to fight tonight. Sounded like a death wish to me,” the psychic chuckled, returning to sketching.
Sighing with irritation, Wednesday crossed her arms over her chest, sighing and turning away without thanking him, already on her way into the woods for the second time that week; you were really trying her patience, weren’t you?
The incessant sounds of the academy faded into the background as the sound of faint birdsong and the whistling of wind through the trees welcomed her, and Wednesday felt herself relax as she embarked.
The faint light of Xavier’s shed in the woods led her way as she stepped through the wooded area, easily reaching the doors at the pace she was going, completely unbothered by the sounds of the woods at night as she knocked on the door once. Twice. Three times. No response.
Frowning, Wednesday abruptly opened the door, inviting herself in as she looked around the shed; the lightbulb was illuminating the place as well as it usually did, coloring the shed a faint yellow as the paintings on the wall were suspended in shadow; the vibe overall was a more moody one that she found herself partial to.
She wouldn’t have minded it if she wasn’t so annoyed with you right now. She took a moment to look around; the shed wasn’t that big. You had to be in here somewhere. Passing by Xavier’s most recent canvas, she glanced at your usual spot; a paint splattered stool facing a large canvas, which, this time, was somewhat painted.
In the center of the canvas was a rough painting of a stag, head proudly raised, it's fine eyes peering out of the canvas as if observing for danger, scanning its surroundings. Wednesday took a moment to raise her hand to touch the dark paint strokes, running her fingers down the image as she took in the messy style you had adopted in the piece.
And atop it all, one broad, dark red stroke slashing across the face of the stag, dripping down to the bottom of the canvas, in what she thought to be blood
What you had done… she couldn’t help but find the darkness you had perfectly captured in the creature’s eyes…impressive. You did have some talent.
And, upon bringing herself closer, she could tell from the consistency of the dried blood that you had, in fact, used real blood; it looked like the blood she had used on you the week prior for her bloodstain analysis in the woods.
Dragging her eyes away from the painting, Wednesday noticed movement in the corner of her vision, slowly turning to see what it was as her eyes fell under one of the tables in the back
And there you were.
In the darkest corner of the room, partially hidden by large canvases and other tables full of art supplies, you were asleep on a couple of blankets piled on the floor, practically buried out of sight. Soft breaths escapes your mouth as you let out a small incoherent mumble.
Wednesday’s step faltered slightly.
Never once had she seen you asleep. Not that she wanted to, no. But you were always the type to be snarky, retorting her insults and cracking jokes of your own instead of genuinely vulnerable.
And now, here you were, curled up in a pile of blankets under a table in a shed, completely forgotten about what you had been so excited to do.
Wednesday watched you for a moment.
And then another.
Studying every inch of you. The way your chest barely rose and fell with every breath you took. The way your eyes fluttered as if you were dreaming. The way your eyebrows furrowed slightly as you dug yourself deeper into your nest of blankets, as if in a dream…
Wednesday considered it to be… almost… adorable.
What had you done to her? Here she was, staring at you like a nauseatingly obsessed teenager, thinking…affectionate thoughts toward you? Wednesday didn’t know what the demons of hell had found in her that was unworthy, but she was going to figure it out before she turned into some disgusting version of her mother.
To snap herself out of it the raven edged her way through the tables, stopping at you and crouching down on her knees to be at your level as her dark eyes flickered over you before she reached out and gave your ear a light flick. Nothing too hard, and not because she knew your ears were sensitive, merely because she didn’t want you to wake up in pain, although you were missing out - waking up in pain truly was a wonderful feeling.
You were awake almost instantly; Wednesday wasn’t surprised as you sat up straight and banged your head on the bottom of the table, groaning and hand lifting to rub the sore spot.
“What the hell…Wednesday?”
Wednesday huffed and straightened, folding her arms as she glared down at you, not giving you your answer as she waited for you to figure it out yourself.
You took a moment before realizing the situation, and Wednesday had to suppress a smirk at the look of surprise and frustration on your face as you shuffled out of the small space, straightening and stretching with what she thought to be a very childish pout.
“Goddamnit, Wednesday, I’m sorry for missing it, I was painting with Xavier and I fell asleep” - you glanced out the window at the dark sky - “look, I’ll make it up to y-“
You were cut off as Wednesday sighed and grabbed your wrist, yanking you backward and watching you stumble. As you fought for balance she firmly wedged her heel behind yours, causing you to trip and take a tumble to the floor, the shed rattling with the impact of you hitting the ground.
“What the hell?” You panted a little bit, pushing yourself up by the palms of your hands as you glared up at her. “What did I do?”
Wednesday rolled her eyes as she folded her arms over her chest and glared right back at you as she deadpanned.
“You said you wanted to learn to fight. Get up.”
The raven watched as you stumbled to your feet and without hesitation she hooked her leg around yours and yanked, watching in satisfaction as you crashed to the ground again, a couple pencils hitting the floor along with you.
“I wasn’t ready,” you complain as you struggle back upright again, eyebrows furrowed in frustration as you let out a small whine.
“The point isn’t being ready, Y/N,” Wednesday rolled her eyes as she studied you. “As a werewolf you have heightened senses. Put it to your advantage.”
Without warning, Wednesday stepped forward, taking the offensive as she kicked out toward your stomach. She felt a tinge of satisfaction when your hands caught her boot, pushing her away, but she wasn’t done yet.
She ducked your swing, stepping behind you and reaching up to your neck, touching it lightly and smirking when she saw you freeze. Her fingers lightly brushed the small patch of fur you had on the back of your neck, just under your head.
“If your opponent knows about your weak spot they will take advantage of it.” She released you, watching you relax. “Do not let anyone touch it.”
As you turned to face her she scoffed slightly and gestured for you to strike first, deciding to take assessment of your offensive skills, which surely would be abysmal at best, if you were lucky; maybe you were right to come to her.
It was almost comical, the look of concentration on your face, and Wednesday was caught slightly off guard when you struck out with your foot. The raven dodged, getting out of the way in time, but your shoe did manage to graze her side as she did so. A flicker of focus in her eyes, Wednesday stepped under your arm, pushing herself against your back, forcing you to stumble forward.
Now that you were off balance she decided to test what she had just told you, reaching for your neck. She felt another glimmer of satisfaction as you dodged away immediately, ramming yourself against her stomach so that your weight and momentum was to your advantage, causing her to stumble backward a little bit.
You were panting, definitely focused now as your eyes flickered up to meet hers, sparkling with pride at managing to unbalance her so quickly. Wednesday wasn’t too surprised, though. Sure, you were definitely a poor fighter, but you still had that werewolf fighting instinct, no matter how much you complained.
When you swiped again the raven merely stepped aside, smirking as your fist swung through the air. Before you could hit again she gave you one good shove, kicking the crook under your knee. You tumbled backward, hitting one of the canvas and tearing through it with a crash, art supplies flying through the air and adding to the new mess of the shed, a cloud of dust now rising into the air as you groaned.
As you sat up the mess of paintbrushes, acrylics, and torn canvas fell around you, and your jaw fell in shock before looking back up at Wednesday.
“Xavier’s gonna kill me.”
Wednesday smirked at your words, turning on her heel and shouldering her bag, already on her way out. She didn’t stop as she heard you exclaim from behind her, “you’re not gonna help me clean this up?”
Both of you knew she wouldn’t.
“Consider this your payback for being late. Next time I won’t be so generous,” Wednesday tossed you a glare before opening the door of the shed and disappearing outside. She could hear another crash from inside the shed, as you tried to follow her, but she knew that you’d have to stay and clean the mess, otherwise risking losing your shed privileges completely.
It was completely fair, and Wednesday was willing to sit through your complaints about the paint that you had most definitely gotten on your clothes, throughout the week.
She felt a prickle in the collar of her sweater and paused, brow furrowing in annoyance as she reached around to try and find the source of what had been bothering her, pulling out a few tufts of your fur. The raven rolled her eyes with a scoff, shoving it into her pocket and heading back toward the academy.

Too Sharp to Touch pt.5

Warnings: language, mentions of blood
Summary: After a painting session with Xavier you meet up with your friend group at the dining hall, and it seems as if everyone is talking about you and Wednesday
Pairing: Wednesday x Reader
Too Sharp to Touch Masterlist

The quiet sound of a wet paintbrush slathering over canvas, paint dripping onto the tarp on the floor was the atmosphere for your slavery, taunting you as you remembered that this was all your fault.
Xavier was sitting atop his own painting stool, mid-paint, and looking at you occasionally to make sure you were still cleaning. Your pair of sweatpants was already getting coated in a layer of chalk dust as you knelt on the shed floor, scooping broken pencil shards into the Ziploc bag you’d been given with a very prominent pout on your face.
Sure, you could’ve been painting just like Xavier, getting the respect you very much deserved instead of being treated like a misbehaving child, but no. Here you were, on the floor, dirtying your second pair of pants this month, stooping under tables to reach the strayed paintbrushes.
And it was all the fault of Wednesday Addams.
Yeah sure, you’d gotten a few useful fighting tips a couple nights ago. Use your heightened senses, yadda yadda, don’t let anyone touch the fur on your neck, yadda yadda - but surely you didn’t deserve such a shove to the floor.
And no, you were not imagining the small glint of satisfaction in the goth’s eyes when you nearly busted the floor of the shed right open when the impact of your fall, a mess of paint brushes and art supplies flying around you. The hint of a smirk on her face? She took satisfaction in doing it, no matter what excuses you knew she would make.
“You done yet?”
The scoff of the painting psychic broke you out of your thoughts when you realized you’d paused cleaning. Frowning softly, you sat back on your heels to look at the mess, or, more importantly, lack thereof. You’d cleaned up the pencils and paintbrushes and most of the chalks, but there was no way you’d be able to clean the stains of charcoal and chalk powder from the boards of the floor. You turned to Xavier and threw the bag at him, not caring if you hurt him or not (not that you put a lot of force into the throw anyway).
Your half-serious hopes of injury were quailed when Xavier chuckled at your throw, putting the ziploc on the table of art supplies, and turning back to painting. Without asking permission (which you both knew you didn’t need), you got off the floor and got into your worn painting stool, trying to dust the chalk powder off your sweatpants with a quiet grumble.
“I shouldn’t have had to clean that, I’m innocent.”
Xavier shook his head with a teasing smile as he dipped his paintbrush into his palette, continuing his smooth brushstrokes as he spoke.
“You know that when you’re in the shed alone whatever happens is your responsibility, Y/N.”
“I wasn’t alone, and it wasn’t my fault,” you insisted, eyebrows furrowing as you tossed him one last pout before turning to your painting you’d started the week before. “It was Wednesday’s fault, go and torture her and not me.” You didn’t comment on the fact that she wouldn’t mind being tortured. If you knew her she’d enjoy it.
“I don’t have a death wish, thank you,” Xavier chuckled softly again as his brush swirled around in his cup of paint water. “And what was Wednesday Addams doing in the shed last night?” The psychic leaned backward on his stool to look around his canvas and give you a raised eyebrow, a smirk twitching at the corner of his lips.
“Fighting lessons. I already told you,” you grumbled, still in a bad mood from having to clean. “She pushed me.” You adjusted the lighting on one of the antlers of the stag, head tilting sideways as you tried to get the angle right.
“I don’t find that hard to believe,” Xavier muttered from behind his canvas. “She came up to me last night, asking about you, and she sounded pissed; more than usual, at least. Apparently, you didn’t show up.”
You scoffed slightly, trying to ignore the embarrassed heat starting to creep onto your cheeks. “I fell asleep trying to fix the heater, it was making funny noises again.” You paused a little bit, perking up slightly as you glanced at Xavier. “Wednesday asked about me?”
When you saw Xavier pause as well, glancing at you with surprise and a smirk, you froze. “Yeah, she did. Because you were late?”
You felt the heat in your face get worse as you buried your face in the canvas again, trying to ignore Xavier’s stupid smirk as you felt his eyes on your back.
“So how did the practice go, anyway? You were talking up a storm about it the other day.”
Oh, you knew exactly what he was doing.
Deciding to humor him, you delicately painted a fine dark line to add a good contrast to your lighting, grinning in satisfaction as you responded, “Oh it went fine, I suppose.”
The silence that followed your response made you grin wider, but you hid it as you turned your face further into your canvas and out of view, continuing to smoothen your strokes as he responded, “That’s it? Come on, Y/N, I know it was more than that.”
“Nope,” you muttered, still thinking that he deserved some sort of payback for making you clean up the mess. “Nothing at all.”
The silence dragged on, only filled by the sound of water swishing and paintbrushes dipping into the paint before you finally couldn’t hold back what you had to say.
“Wednesday cheated. She shoved me on purpose and didn’t warn me.” You continued to complain as you added a touch of green to your forest canopy background. “Not to mention the fact that she barely taught me anything-”
You continued to grumble and gripe about your night, pausing only to catch your breath as Xavier listened, before cutting in, “Sounds like you two had a good time, aside from breaking apart my shed. Next time keep it in the academy or the woods.”
You fixed him with a glare, shaking your head as you felt the heat return to your cheeks. “It was a fighting lesson, that’s all.” Turning back to your canvas, you muttered, “And I don’t think she particularly liked your crusty old shed anyways.”
“Keep talking like that and you won’t get to use my crusty old shed,” Xavier snarked, throwing a paintbrush at your head, which you dodged. “And clearly it wasn’t just a fighting lesson, you’ve been walking around in a trance all day. Did she, like, poison you or something?”
“I wouldn’t put it past her.” You turned your attention back to your canvas to try and get rid of the now very prominent blush on your face.
You leaned toward the canvas, switching out for the smaller brush to hone in on the detail of the bloodstain. Yes, you’d used the pigs blood from the bloodstain thing you’d done with Wednesday. It made the piece more genuine, at least in your mind.
When you leaned in you started to drag your brush delicately down the canvas when something made you freeze. You picked up a scent on your painting. No, it wasn’t the scent of blood, oils or acrylics. It was faint, maybe two or three days old, but it was a scent you knew. The scent of dead leaves and darkness, an underlying tone of death lingering behind it.
Wednesday?
Your eyebrows scrunched in confusion as you continued to hover right in front of your canvas, setting your brush down so you could focus. Not only had she been near it but she had touched it. That much you knew. Yet you were still confused. Had she been here some other time? Why would she touch your painting of all the paintings there were here?
“Uhh… Y/N?”
Xavier’s confused voice broke through your thoughts as you realized you had been hunched weirdly in front of your canvas for a bit, lost in confusion and still scenting the last traces of Wednesday on your canvas. Embarrassed, you straightened quickly, muttering out an excuse about seeing a bug, and tried to focus on your painting as you reached for the paintbrush again.
-
You stood and stretched, glancing outside at the sky that was beginning to darken, the last golden rays of sun fading out slowly. Your painting was definitely coming along nicely; you’d gotten a lot of the lighting done, and the background was nearly finished; you’d have to fix the bloodstain another time. Blood definitely wasn’t something easy to paint with.
You put your brushes away and scooted your stool back into place as you glanced at Xavier, who had his headphones on. Walking over, you nudged him, gesturing outside to let him know you were leaving.
The psychic merely nodded at you in acknowledgment, handing you the Ziploc full of the broken art supplies for you to keep before turning back to his art, and you slipped out of the shed, leaving him to his devices as you threw your shoulder into the creaky door to close it fully.
Your stomach was growling by the time you arrived at the main building, jogging up the stairs as you made a beeline for the dining hall, weaving easily through students. God, you were starving. If they were out of yogurt cups again you were going to claw someone.
Upon entering the dining hall, your eyes brightened at the sight of a bustling room, tables full of chatting students, not to mention those studying in the corner. Fidgeting impatiently you got in line, grabbing yourself a Coke. You spotted the last yogurt cup in the cooler and reached for it, only for it to be swiped from your reach by someone ahead of you in line.
Growling with frustration, you had to stop yourself from literally clawing it out of the student's hands, reminding yourself to have some self-control as you watched the student walk off with what should have been your property.
Damnit.
Your hands felt empty carrying only your coke (ignoring the Ziploc bag of broken art supplies), as you walked toward your usual table, Enid, Bianca, Yoko, and Divina were already seated and chatting together.
“Move,” you huffed, nudging the tip of the blonde’s blazer as your hands were full. You scooted in between Yoko and Enid, setting the bag of art supplies at your feet and cracking open the coke with a claw, shotgunning it.
“Someone’s in a bad mood,” Bianca observed from across the table, giving you a smirk as she took a bite of salad. “What was it this time?”
You paused mid-shotgun to groan. “I was so close to getting that yogurt cup I could taste it.” Your words came out more of a whine than a groan.
“Don’t be late next time, then! What took you so long?” Enid elbowed your side, almost causing you to spit your coke out all over yourself as you kicked her back under the table with equal force.
“I had to clean up this giant mess in Xavier’s shed,” you grumbled. “Leftovers from fighting practice.”
“Fighting practice! Everyone’s been talking about your fighting practice and I want the tea, so spill.” Enid raised an eyebrow at you, taking a sip of her own tea as she grinned.
“Not everyone.” Yoko scoffed from across the table, rolling her eyes as she chuckled a little at the blonde’s exaggeration. “Us, Enid. We’ve been talking about it, not the whole school.”
“Yeah, because we want to know how in hell you managed to not only get lessons with her but somehow not get killed in the process,” Bianca raised an eyebrow, pointing her plastic fork at you for emphasis as she spoke. “She must be using you somehow.”
Enid jumped in to defend her roommate quickly. “Hey, Wednesday doesn’t use people-!”
The table burst into conversation and argument, nothing too serious, and you just listened as you chugged the rest of your coke, the sound of it melding quite nicely with the noisy chatter of the dining hall.
You clearly weren’t paying attention because one second everyone was fighting and the next Wednesday was standing right behind you and Enid, and this time you did choke on your coke, the soda going down the wrong pipe and causing you to cough as you covered your mouth, embarrassed.
“Speak of the devil,” Bianca muttered, rolling her eyes at the sight of Wednesday.
“Don’t flatter me,” came the response, the raven glaring at the siren with such a gaze that could make a grown man cry. Addressing nobody else, she turned to Enid. “I’d appreciate your assistance using this.”
Wednesday handed the blonde her phone. It was the one you knew Xavier had given her and not once had you seen her use it, not that you assumed she knew how.
Enid tapped on it a couple times, adjusting some things on screen before handing it back to Wednesday, who frowned in slight distaste at the phone. nodding her thanks and turning on her heel.
As she walked past you she placed a yogurt cup in front of you, not even making eye contact as she did so.
“Addams’ giving gifts?” Bianca snickered, raising an eyebrow to tease Wednesday, who glared coldly in response, hissing. “Thing retrieved the yogurt cup for me. Seeing as I have no regard for anything slightly sweet it was of no use to me and I was to get it out of my hands.”
The raven locked eyes with you at the end of her sentence and you felt a very noticeable blush ride to your face as you met her glare.
“Suggest anything personal such as me giving anyone a gift again, Barclay, and I’ll filet your scales out one by one.” Wednesday threatened the siren coldly. Her eyes met yours once more, something flickering within them before she turned and left. As you watched her go, no you did not see Thing anywhere near her, nor could scent him.
Liar.
You dug your spoon into the yogurt, mixing the berries together, suddenly aware of the silence around you. You paused and looked up, raising an eyebrow. “What-?”
“Nothingggg!” Enid said in a singsong tone, giggling as she looked at you. “I just think that someone maybe has a little crush?”
The blonde’s words were met with a chorus of agreement and laughter, save Bianca who still looked pissed from her conversation with Wednesday, to no surprise.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” you huffed as you spooned your yogurt, the blush on your face getting darker. Damnit. Yoko slammed her palm on the table, pointing at you.
“Your tells don’t lie, Y/N. I’ve never seen your face that shade of red before. Something’s up.”
You groaned, glaring at her without a retort to fire back. You were going to get her back for it. You kicked her shin underneath the table, smirking with satisfaction when the vampire winced.
“Look, all we’re saying is that first off you totally do have a crush,” Yoko pointed out, raising an eyebrow. “But aside from that, you could get murdered. Seriously, Y/N, I’m worried for your safety. Do all werewolves have a death wish?”
“Nah, just the hot ones,” you responded sarcastically, draining the last of the yogurt cup and standing up. “I’m gonna bounce, I’m headed out for a run.”
You were met with a couple goodbyes, a nod from Bianca, and a raise of an eyebrow from Yoko, but Enid stood up with you, nodding, “Yeah I’m going with you.”
You started to speak up, confused; Enid had never shown interest in going on a run with you before - but when you saw the blonde's face, telling you to stay quiet, you did as told and nodded, walking with her out of the dining hall.
As soon as the two of you were out of sight the blonde pulled you aside in the hall, holding both of your shoulders.
“Look, I’m not gonna lie, Wednesday totally likes you,” Enid said with a grin. “It’s not like many people can tell, but seeing as I’m her roomie I can see when she’s got a soft spot for someone and you’ve got her wrapped around your finger.”
“Are you sure about that?” You raised an eyebrow, trying to ignore the prickling on your neck at the thought of what she was suggesting. “She seems to hate me.”
“Oh please, Y/N, wake up and smell the roses.” Enid rolled her eyes, shaking your shoulders a little. “I’m trying to help you out here.”
You sighed and muttered, “Fine. Enlighten me, oh great sensei.”
“Don’t be a dick, and listen.” Enid shook you harder. “You need to get her attention, more so than already. Show her you’re bold.”
“And how would I do that?” You said in a bit of confusion as to where this was heading.
“Maybe go out and kill something and bring it back to her? As like- to show you’re a good hunter?” The blonde didn't even notice your eyes scrunching up in distaste.
“Or I could steal something-“ You went completely off the rails, eyes sparking at your own idea as Enid frowned. “She deserves payback after making me clean up her mess.”
“Y/N, I don’t think that’s such a good idea-“ Enid shook her head, face going slightly pale. “No matter what feelings Wednesday might have towards you, she'll literally murder you if you take any of her stuff.”
“Too late!” You were grinning now, eyes alight with mischievous intent, hopping a little on your toes with the excitement of it all. “She totally deserves it.”
You were already starting to scramble down the hallway, your run forgot, but Enid grabbed our arm, speaking seriously. “Y/N, no matter what you do, just - be careful and don’t mess anything up. The fact that Wednesday likes you already means you’re on thin ice, so be careful.”
You looked at Enid and nodded impatiently. “Thanks for the advice, E, I owe you one!”
With that you turned and raced down the hall, your mind set on the prize to snatch. Something the Addams treasured, cared for, loved, even.
The typewriter.

Summary: Wednesday practically flips the school upside down during her search for her missing typewriter, and lo and behold look who comes to help her? None other than you.
Pairings: Wednesday x Reader
Too Sharp to Touch Masterlist

Wednesday was losing her mind.
And no, it was not as pleasant as she had imagined it would be.
It was missing. Gone. Almost as if it has never been there in the first place.
Her typewriter - her precious, prized typewriter - was missing.
The Addams was one who favored neatness and precision. Everything had its place and every place had its thing, ensuring that no time would be wasted and that there was no confusion in where something could be placed. If she needed something, it would be there. That was that, and that was the way that she liked it.
It was why Wednesday had a specific folder for her homework assignments, as well as one for her investigations, and another for story drabbles and ideas, all stashed carefully under her desk in their drawer where they could be easily accessed when needed.
So when the raven entered her shared dorm after a rather successful day of classes, pulling out her folder full of notes for her novel as she prepared to engage in her writing hour, when she spotted the lack of a typewriter beside her box of written pages, she was baffled. At first.
Without hesitation the first thing Wednesday did was meticulously search through every inch of Enid’s side of the dorm. The Addams hunted through every inch of pillows, nooks, crannies, and crawl space, though her attempts came to be in vain. She was unsurprised, albeit; she never truly believed that Enid would have taken it, even as maybe a prank, since the werewolf knew how much her typewriter meant to her, but everyone was a suspect when it came to things like this.
And so the mystery began.
Of course, Wednesday loved a good mystery; she found nothing better than discovering the culprit of a complicated and mysterious case, one that would take experienced detectives hours to crack; seeing the fate of the culprit as their punishment was carried out - it was a wonderful feeling. It filled her with a sense of satisfaction.
And wouldn’t you know, the very first person to offer their help was you. You were eager, that she was sure of. It was unnerving how quickly you volunteered to help her solve the case, this tiny grin on your face every time you asked her about what the latest thing was she’d uncovered, but you weren’t the focus of her attention.
As much as she hated to admit it, Wednesday knew that Nevermore was a big school and having a werewolf with a good sense of smell would be helpful in her case, so she reluctantly allowed you to assist her, convincing herself repeatedly that it was only because she wanted to humor you.
Even worse? You weren’t that bad. She already knew you weren’t incessantly cheerful like Enid was, but you behaved yourself better than she’d expected, especially for you. It was odd, to say the least, to see the change in your behavior. Other than that, you did add helpful points to the conversation, and one or two of your suggestions weren’t as irrelevant as she’d expected.
Although Wednesday knew for certain that her typewriter had not been carelessly misplaced, she decided it wasn’t the worst of ideas to check anywhere it could have been misplaced, despite her insistence on the fact that she would never do such a thing. How could one misplace a large, expensive, prized typewriter that was only used in her dorm and her dorm alone? Impossible.
And so, the raven became sure that her assumptions had been correct from the start; foul play was indeed the only cause of her sudden loss and without a doubt when she would uncover the culprit at hand she would make their life a living hell.
On her own the raven cut through her suspects list, starting with Bianca herself. Her week became festered with interviews as she took her time planning to take aside one of her friends (a term very loosely used), and question them mercilessly. Well - Bianca at least. The siren may have done her a favor or two a ways back but Wednesday was most certainly not one to allow mercy to anyone, especially under the circumstances. Unfortunately despite her flawless interrogation, the raven found Bianca empty handed. Ironic.
“What about Xavier?” That was your suggestion you offered when you approached her afterward, already peppering the raven with questions with that same small smile on your face that made her stomach twist.
“Xavier has no motive, Y/N, do you know anything about the pursuit of criminology?” Wednesday muttered, pulling the shoulder straps on her backpack tighter. “Use what’s left of your brain and actually think about possible suspects with valid intentions.”
Just as she expected you were already going for a kick to her shin, which she promptly dodged, continuing to walk down the hall while you surely sulked behind, most likely due to your failed attempt.
“I don’t have all day to play games and the gap is getting narrow.” Wednesday huffed, almost muttering to herself at this point as her fists clenched. “There’s an answer here.”
“What about Thing?”
Your voice broke her out of her thoughts as you jogged to catch up with her, walking alongside her as you spoke.
“He’s still pissed at you for giving him the silent treatment last week.” Your hands waved around excitedly as you talk, something that only very briefly distracted the raven.
“A punishment well deserved for an appendage who thinks it is appropriate behavior to provide useless information instead of helpful resources.” Wednesday’s eyebrows furrowed in slight annoyance as she recalled why she had refused the hand permission to assist her when she had performed her bloodstain analysis research on you in the woods a week prior. “He knows better than to hold grudges against an Addams.”
“He is an Addams, Wednesday.” The raven could practically hear you rolling your eyes as you spoke. “He’s part of your family but I wouldn’t put it past him to nab your typewriter to get revenge.”
“Couldn’t even think of the inevitable punishment he would receive,” Wednesday muttered with an eye roll of her own. “Ameuter. I’ll make sure he receives his consequences.”
The raven turned direction swiftly as she swerved from her original destination, already on track to Ophelia Hall as you caught up, the smile you had worn so frequently abruptly fading. Odd. She tried to focus on walking instead of your uncharacteristic silence. You were thinking. That she could tell.
“You’re going to like- hurt him? Right now?” You looked at her, your eyes searching hers. The raven kept her eyes ahead on the path, the students around her instinctively carving a path as she plowed through. “You can’t like- put him in timeout or something?”
Wednesday gave you a look of disgust as her lip curled into a grimace. “Y/N, suggest such a weak punishment like that again and I’ll make sure you understand an appropriate consequence.” She immediately shut down any nagging thoughts reminding her she’d never actually-
No. She needed to focus. This was not about you.
She veered the corner, before stopping in her tracks and spinning to face you with a glare. “Are you going to trail after me like a lost puppy or go make yourself of use?” Your face of insignace would be almost comical if she wasn’t so irritated with Thing. “Do as you please. I have business to attend to that will not require your inexperienced assistance.”
You huffed and folded your arms, grumbling something under your breath that the raven was almost positive was something contradicting her statement, but you nodded and turned, heading back down in the direction which you had come.
She threw open the door to her dorm, instantly spotting Thing on Enid’s bed with the blonde herself, discussing a nail care magazine the two were flipping through.
“That’s a good point, Thing, but this green might suit your complexion better,” the werewolf pointed to something on the glossy page, the hand tapping rapidly in response. “I absolutely am an expert at this, Thing, I know more about fashion than you.” A few more taps. “That’s vulgar coming from you.”
Wednesday stormed over to the bed, promptly yanking the magazine out from under Thing and handing it to the bewildered Enid, the appendage tumbling to the floor.
Before he could scuttle away the raven bent down and grabbed Thing in her hands, holding him up to her eye level as she glared at him with murderous intent. “Tell me where you put it or you’ll be receiving another scar to add to your collection.”
The appendage tapped rapidly on her hand, interrupted by Enid who stood and hurried over, laying a hand on Wednesday’s shoulder. “Willa….? What are you doing-?”
Wednesday’s fingers tightened around the hand as she met Enid’s worried expression, gesturing toward Thing with her head as she hissed, “my typewriter is missing and I wish to know why Thing took it.”
Enid paled slightly, which was confusing to the raven. “Don’t be sensitive, he’ll be receiving the attention that he clearly so desperately wants.”
Wednesday was already reaching into her pocket for her handy pocket blade that she carried on her at all times but was met with Enid’s hand on her wrist. She stiffened slightly and shot the blonde a glare, though she didn’t pull away. “Don’t interfere, Enid, I know what I’m doing.”
Yet, the werewolf didn’t move, eyes wide and face pale, mouth opening as if she wanted to say something before closing her mouth again as her gaze flitted from the hand and then back to her. “You said he took your typewriter?”
Wednesday nodded, pressing the tip of her knife to the crook of Thing’s thumb as she spoke in a dangerously low voice. “Start talking.” The hand responded with rapid and wild gestures, flailing in her hands as the raven’s fingers curled tighter around the appendage, pressing her knife firmly against his thumb, close enough to draw blood.
“Don’t play dumb, Thing, answer the question. Where. Is. The typewriter?” Wednesday hissed, applying a little more pressure as the hand squirmed, signing wildly. Her grip faltered just slightly at the hand’s pleas; although pathetic and shameful, especially for Thing - they seemed authentic, which caught her off-guard. Shaking off her thoughts, Wednesday pressed the knife back against Thing’s smooth palm.
“It wasn’t Thing-” Enid blurted out, and Wednesday paused, slowly turning her head to stare at the blonde, eyes narrowing slightly. “It wasn’t-” the blonde trailed off with a frustrated sigh, rubbing her neck in what appeared to be an anxious gesture. The raven slowly lowered the hand, already realizing that Enid wasn’t lying. With a reproachful expression she set Thing back down on the bedspread, ignoring the hand’s rapid tappings of indignance.
“Explain. Now.”
Wednesday stared at the Enid with a glare, not budging as she folded her arms and waited for the blonde to explain, exhaling sharply through her nose. The werewolf fidgeted around with a guilty expression before groaning,
“Look, I told her that it was a bad idea, but she didn’t listen-” the blonde pinched the bridge of her nose in frustration and guilt, looking back up at Wednesday after a moment as she continued. “And you’re not allowed to murder her, but-” Wednesday didn’t even register the rest of Enid’s sentence as the answer hit her like a stab in the abdomen. You. Of course it was you. Why else would you volunteer to help her when you could’ve been off doing your own thing? That small smile she had always seen on your face when you had offered your advice? Now the mischief and deceit made sense. The fact that you had paled when she’d mentioned getting her revenge on Thing for your crime? How could she have not put the pieces together?
Even more infuriating, your advice and ideas as well as what you had suggested for suspects and information - they had all seemed so valid. How could you of all people be so foolish and yet infuriatingly genius at once?
It was admirable.
No doubt about it, Wednesday was going to kill you.

When you sat down at the dining hall for breakfast the first thing that happened before you even got to take a bite of your cereal was that what appeared to be a freshly-sharpened dagger was thrown with deadly accuracy straight at your shoulder.
Of course, you were able to dodge it; you were a werewolf - you basically had spidey senses thanks to your heightened hearing and sense of awareness but you still practically jumped out of your seat as you did so, your eyes landing on the hunk of metal now embedded in the wooden support behind you. When you glanced at the exit to the dining hall for the culprit you saw nobody there. Though you knew exactly who it was.
Your week had been a living hell. Wednesday knew. Of course she had found out. You knew your acting had been shit. And you had been an idiot to think you weren’t going to pay.
You had started out your lovely morning the day before, awaking to a hissing sound in your dorm room. It was subtle, and definitely not something you noticed at first. You had sat up in your tangle of blankets and looked around with groggy eyes, checking your watch and looking out your window to try and estimate the time, trying to figure out what had woken you in the first place. You’d slid out of your bed, and that’s when you heard a sickening rattling sound from right under the bedframe, knowing enough from your time in the woods exactly what it was.
You had performed what you personally thought to be a ninja skill level dodge, twisting on your heel in that new move Wednesday had shown you during lessons the other day, jumping out of the way and over onto the other side of the creature, grabbing the rattlesnake firmly behind the head while it thrashed about, hissing furiously and snapping at air. You had planned on disposing of it outside in the woods where it belonged but when it almost bit one of your fingers off you simply cracked it in half with a huff.
Rumor was the teachers were horrified to discover a dead snake in the trash cans.
You knew who it was the second you had seen the snake anyways. It wasn’t like you had left your window open and a rattlesnake so happened to somehow slither up a two story building to slip inside, half a mile away from where most snakes inhabited the woods.
No, you knew better than to think that.
And sure, you knew that you deserved this but you were never one to pass by some competition.
You had gone to YouTube on a search for some things, and after a painfully long day of watching multiple tutorials, with the help of a newly vengeful Thing (still mad over being falsely accused), you managed to not only replace Wednesday’s cello strings with guitar strings but you also managed to un-tune it, screwing the knobs not to the point of breaking, just enough to annoy the Addams. Thing had reported detail by detail that night his dramatic recollection of Wednesday’s annoyance and slight confusion when she picked up her bow to play the cello and was met with the realization that not only was her instrument untuned but somehow replaced with the wrong kind of strings.
You knew it was suicidal but you loved it.
After classes that same day you had headed back to your dorm to finish up a paper for tomorrow but when you sat down at your desk to start working, upon pulling open your drawer for your school supplies, not a single piece of paper or notebook was to be found. And instead, all that you saw were dog toys. The drawer was packed top to bottom with squeaky toys, tennis balls, and rawhide bones. You had been in surprise for a moment and honestly you thought it was a little funny, not really that offended. You’d been able to get rid of most of the toys, (you gave them to a thrifter in Jericho later on), but you did end up keeping one of them for yourself, though you didn’t tell anyone about it.
Your retaliation in response to the dog toy stunt was to put creamer in her coffee when you were sitting beside Wednesday at the study group, waiting giddily for the raven’s return from the shelves of the library. The goth had returned a few minutes later and sat down beside you at the desk, returning to her work. You had to wait a couple minutes before you saw her glance at her coffee to take a sip, and the look of disgust from the now sweet taste of what once was such a bitter coffee was quite enjoyable to you. Maybe you were a bit of a sadist, but you still had to pinch your inner thigh to keep yourself from giggling at the sight of the raven’s glare slowly shifting over to you. The rest of the group, if they’d noticed, would surely be confused but both you and the Addams knew exactly what was going on.
It honestly wasn’t too bad of a week now that you thought about it. Sure, you had to be on alert constantly but that was what your relationship with Wednesday typically consisted of. Just with a slight bit more murderous intent. Which, honestly, you didn’t mind. It felt good to be enjoying yourself, even if what you did consider ‘revenge’ was a little watered down compared to what Wednesday did. The only real time you had been in serious danger was yesterday.
You had been in botany class, doodling on your notes as you half-listened to the teacher, when you’d spotted a granola bar left discarded in the section under your desk, much to your relief. You hadn’t eaten much that day so it was a pretty damn lucky coincidence. You were completely unaware when Wednesday watched you eat the granola bar, eyes trained on your every move.
You’d been awake all night that night throwing up. Although the goth didn’t actually make an appearance that night you knew that Wednesday had tampered with the sealed granola bar you’d eaten, although when Thing arrived in your dorm with a bottle of water for you and some lame excuse that ‘it was his idea’, you had felt a little bit better. You had sent the hand back with a couple spare inks you had laying around as a thank you. That night overall had been somewhat of a trainwreck though. Only Wednesday Addams of all people could somehow tamper with a sealed granola bar. It was still puzzling to you how in the hell she’d managed to do that.
Not many students knew about the ongoing ‘war’, so you called it. It was a loose term and you didn’t take it very seriously. Enid and Thing knew, of course, and they just stepped back and let you two do whatever it was you were doing. As for the others…well…it was also funny to see their reactions. For example, when you were playing the game Mousetrap with Ajax, Bianca, and Divina in the quad the other weekend. It was your turn, and you’d accidentally set off the trap. Much to the others surprise the traps that’d been set up throughout the game were rigged, and when you turned the crank a small blade shot out from one of the plastic pieces, taking out a small chunk of flesh from your finger. It wasn’t deep but it still stung like a bitch and you had to go bandage your hand before you even considered playing the game again. A small compensation, though, was the look of horror and shock on the others’ face when the whole ordeal had occurred. Oddly enough that night you’d found a small tube of some sort of mystery cream on your bed, which, when smeared on your wound instantly took the pain away. You had no clue what was in it or where it’d come from.
So, today, you had to go and find where in the hell the vengeful Addams had put your school stuff. Although you had gotten all of those dog toys out of you way after a quick search of your dorm your textbooks were nowhere to be found, which, admittedly was a problem. Sure, you didn’t like to do schoolwork but it wasn’t like you didn’t need to do it. You were already late on a couple assignments so if you didn’t get your ass in gear you were going to be in trouble. You’d already looked in all the places you’d thought of but had come up dry, and you had no clues or context as to where they could be so you gave up and decided to just go to Wednesday and ask.
You knew that since it was early morning the Addams was awake. You had time before class to talk. Especially since you had just had a dagger practically thrown at your face. Well…your shoulder. Odd, considering you knew that a dagger in the shoulder definitely wouldn’t be a fatal wound.
After yanking said dagger from the plank of wood it was embedded in, you carefully held it so you wouldn’t accidentally stab yourself as you walked quickly out of the dining hall, cereal left behind and uneaten. The hallways weren’t as crowded as usual due to the early morning so it wasn’t hard for you to manuever through them, headed for where you knew Wednesday was. The Addams always sat every morning in the quad with a cup of bitter coffee, either writing in one of her notebooks or reading. And when you entered the almost gray area when you eyes fell upon the familiar spot, there she was.
The raven was seated stiffly on one of the benches by the wall, a book in hand and a cup of coffee at her side, still steaming and clearly fresh. She hadn’t been here long. And the second you stepped into the quad you didn’t miss her glance over in your direction. You had to stop yourself from starting to long as you shook your head and approached the goth, your eyes narrowed, huffing with frustration as you halted directly in front of her. Frustratingly enough, she didn’t make eye contact with you, purposefully ignoring you as she slowly and delicately turned a page in her book.
“Tell me where they are.”
“What a warm welcome,” Wednesday quipped with a raise of her eyebrow as her dark eyes never strayed from the pages. “It’s quite early for you to be awake. I expected worse of you.”
“Cut the shit and tell me where my books are, Addams.” You tapped your foot impatiently, silently debating whether or not to push her book away. “I don’t have all day.”
“Oh really?” Wednesday turned another page, perfectly manicured black nails lingering for a painfully long amount of time. “I assumed that you had an interest in playing games, Y/N. And though you might be somewhat adequate at playing your trivial…amusements on others, I, on the contrary, can assure you that you are inferior when it comes to being the subject of my dissatisfaction.” A hint of a smirk passed over her deadpan expression as she tilted her head slightly to finally look up at you. “Besides, I assumed you would appreciate my…tokens of appreciation towards your stunt.”
A small huff of annoyance passed your lips as you frowned slightly at the raven. “Look, we’ve been going back and forth all week and I just need my stuff back. Would it make you feel better if I said that I forfeit?”
Another page turned slowly, making your fists clench as Wednesday responded, “it was inevitable that you would accept defeat. Your blows were remarkably inferior.” She paused to take a sip of her coffee before her eyes once more met yours. “Seeing of your abilities I assume that you should be able to track out your possessions; I might recommend searching the north-western quadrant of the woods.”
Your eyes widened in frustration and annoyance. “That’ll take me half the day to search, how much ground to you expect me to even cover in the period of time that I have to work with?”
“Your senses are more than satisfactory for uncovering your works. If you use what you have of a brain then you should be fine.” The raven gave a slight roll of her eyes, returning back to her book, muttering. “Just don’t do anything foolish.”
“Yeah, yeah, glad to know you care so much.” You were poking at her now but you weren’t really paying attention when the Addams shot you the deadliest of glares, jaw tightening with frustration before returning to her book. You exited the quad, swerving down the hall. How in the hell were you going to do this alone? You had a lot of area to cover and only so much time before class started. Huffing, you picked up the pace as you powered through the halls. Your ears picked up a familiar scuttling sound from somewhere behind you, followed by a small tugging of your pants leg, making you turn and see none other than Thing.
“What do you want, Thing? I don’t have much time.” You paused your walking so the appendage could tap rapidly without having to move at the same time. “Yeah, yeah, I’ll deliver your lotions tonight, okay? I can’t right now but I promise I will.” An idea sparked in your mind before you started to walk again and you slowly glanced down at Thing. “You want another nail filer, right?” A couple of taps easily affirmed your question as you brightened. “Perfect. Then help me find where the hell Wednesday hid my books in the woods, and you’ve got a deal.” Thing paused for a moment before rapidly tapping again. “You weren’t with her when she hid them…” you slightly deflated before shaking your head and continuing. “Doesn’t matter. Two heads are better than…” you trailed off before trying again, “two hands? Two hands are better? Wait…” you counted your own hands for a moment, feeling extremely dumb for a second. “Three- three hands are better than one.” You were met with a couple smug taps and you bristled. “Shut up and help me look.”
The hand grabbed hold of one of the straps of your backpack to pull himself atop it, and you took that as a sign to continue, weaving through the halls until you hopped off the back steps and onto the lawn. The early morning sun was just starting to tip over the trees that still somehow bore leaves, though the grass was scattered with said foliage, crunching underfoot as you made your way across the lawn, shivering slightly as you silently wished the sun would just hurry the hell up.
The protection of the woods dimmed the light further, despite the lack of protection from the trees, what little light there was quickly darkening as the cover of the forest encapsulated you. It wasn’t as peaceful as usual. The woods had an almost eerie vibe, one that you couldn’t place but one that you could sense. That little patch of fur on the back of your neck? Standing on end, like your spidey senses. You caught yourself looking around on multiple occasions, having to shake off the wariness as you tried to focus on the task at hand.
Wednesday had said it was in the north western part of the woods. Perfect. You were already there. But how would you be able to track down textbooks? What kind of scent trail would that even be? Sure, you’d maybe spilled a tad of soda on a page or two but surely that wasn’t anything strong enough to track down. You let your bag down so that Thing could emerge and the hand was instantly scuttling off into the woods, searching one section so you could continue yours.
No, you were not going to get on all fours like an animal and sniff. The mere idea sent a shudder of repulsion and disdain down your spine, as you simply crouched down on the balls of your feet, closing your eyes as you tried to focus on what you were honing out. All that you could scent at the moment was pine, fir, durt, and the regular must odor of the forest, overlayed with old scent trails of animals that’d passed by long before. Underneath it was a scent you couldn’t quite place. It was almost a sulfuric scent; it was definitely faint and you had to really focus to even get a good whiff, but it was there.
You started half walking half jogging around to try and get some sort of scent trail, rolling your eyes as you silently regretted your action of stealing the Addams’ typewriter. How in the world did she even expect you to-
A faint hint of vanilla.
You caught the scent abruptly when you passed a particularly large clump of undergrowth, stopping in your tracks as you slowly backed up to confirm what you’d just detected. Sure enough there was the scent of vanilla - a good strong whiff of it. Easily scentable. You crouched down again, not caring for once about dirtying your pants as you tore aside a couple clumps of pine needles and dirt, revealing a cardboard box, slightly bigger than a shoebox. Upon opening said box your books were revealed, and you let out a sigh of relief. As you pulled the box from the undergrowth you realized that the box had been lightly doused in vanilla extract, explaining the source of the trail.
Tucking your box safely under your arm, you started to pull your backpack back over your shoulder, dusting dirt and forest debris from your uniform when you suddenly heard the sound of multiple birds taking flight. Your head snapping upward you saw briefly through the thick trees a good number of said birds startled into the air, flying away with what to you sounded like a loud flapping of wings and an alarm call.
A faint scuttling broke through your thoughts as out shot Thing from the undergrowth, clearly scuttling as fast as he could as the hand dashed over to you, trying to sign through his scampers toward you.
“Thing, what’s wrong?” You glanced at the appendage, worry thick in your tone, trying to understand what he was trying to say, but before you could try and make sense of anything a sudden sound broke through the woods, causing you to jump.
A gunshot.
The sound cracking through the still early morning forest air was enough to make your stomach curl as the fur on the back of your neck instantly stood up, your fingers gripping your backpack strap so tight that your knuckles began to whiten as your eyes widened. Thing leapt atop your bag, signing rapidly, but you were in too much of a daze to even process anything he was saying, practically frozen on the spot like a deer in the headlights as you tried to work through the current fog that was your mind at the moment.
You couldn’t hear anymore gunshots, thank god, but now dread hung thick in the forest air, tension strung tightly from branch to branch as if it was something palpable you could touch. A thick stench of sulfur returned to your nose and you recoiled, taking a step backward that broke you from your daze, instantly reminded of the sulfuric scent you’d smelled earlier. You were backing up now, Thing clutching tightly to your bag as you turned and ran.
You knew there was nothing, nobody behind you but you were beginning to hear things, imagining the rapid footsteps and the crunch of dry leaves underfoot other than your own as you strained for every ounce of speed your body possessed. You were in flight mode.
Lungs aching and mind focused only on getting out of the forest, you burst from the cover of the forest, racing across the lawn as Thing held on for dear life just so that he wouldn’t fall off. You weren’t paying much attention as your feet got tangled up, and you took a tumble to the ground, skidding a couple feet in the grass as you felt the dry autumn terrain tear at your clothes, most definitely skinning a knee in the process. Thing went flying, landing a couple feet away from you as you stilled on the ground, taking in short breaths.
Your breathing was hurting. God, it hurt to breathe but every second you didn’t it felt like your lungs were going to shrivel and die. Struggling, you huffed in short, cut off breaths as you tried to register everything at once and calm yourself down.
Your body stilled when you heard the dreaded crunch of dry leaves underfoot growing closer. Weren’t you just imagining things? You were supposed to be safe here, Nevermore was supposed to be safe.
“Y/N.”
You slowly dragged yourself to a sitting position, trying to force an expression of calm on your face despite the icy panic you were still experiencing as you slowly looked up to see Wednesday, dressed in uniform with her bag over her shoulder standing beside you, eyes examining you as if you were a scientific experiment. Were you? Was that was this whole… treasure hunt in the woods had been?
“What happened?” The Addams tone was neutral but oh so barely softer. Her glare wasn’t as piercing as usual. She could tell. Like a shark smelling blood in the water, she could somehow tell how panicked you were? Was it the fact that that damn patch of fur you had was still sticking straight up and bristling like a hostile dog? Was it your struggling to take in breaths as you groaned at the new pain in your muscles from the fall you’d taken? It definitely wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been but it still stung.
You struggled to answer as your voice came out much softer than you intended, “I- it- there was-” you had to drag in a couple more breaths as the raven slowly knelt down beside you, cold knuckle coming under your chin to lift your face to meet yours, her eyebrows furrowing as she met your eyes. “I would suggest attempting to control your breathing and refraining from talking until you do so.”
Instead of responding with a witty remark you simply took her advice, trying to do a breathing exercise as you silently counted in your head, closing your eyes to help your focus as your chest began to rise and fall in a less erratic pattern. Slowly, you regained your focus and the panic seeped away, and you were able to speak regularly, though your voice had a slight shake to it. Damnit, you were supposed to be better than this. You didn’t want Wednesday’s pity.
“I found the books but when we were about to leave we heard a gunshot in the woods.” Wednesday’s hand was gone almost as soon as it had come; you hadn’t even noticed. The Addams raised an eyebrow. “We?”
“Thing and I. We were together,” you stood up painfully, rubbing your skinned knee as you retrieved your fallen items, gesturing to Thing who was on the ground still, dazed. You silently promised yourself to bring him an extra nail buffer for the appendage as an apology later that night, watching him slowly crawl over to the two of you. Wednesday straightened as her eyes flicked from Thing to the woods, clearly in deep focus as she remained silent for a moment. “Approximate the distance between where the gunshot originated and the academy.”
You thought for a second, math racing through your brain as you tried to make a connection. Damnit, you were sucky as hell at your math. After a moment you responded uncertainly. “I’d say two miles. The sound wasn’t as sharp as it could’ve been.” You were pacing now, mind racing as you recalled the sound itself. “I think it was a shotgun.”
“I see.” Wednesday’s eyes narrowed slightly and you noticed her jaw tighten slightly as she glanced at Thing again. “And what did you witness?” The appendage began tapping slowly at first, shaking off the daze of his own fall before his signs became more rapid in pace. The Addams sighed slightly as she folded her arms before muttering, “at least you made a wise decision in splitting up to cover ground.” She paused before turning to you, eyes glancing up to meet yours. “If I may offer a suggestion, I’d recommend that we bring this to Weems.”
Your eyes widened slightly and you felt a small flutter in your chest as you spoke, trying not to sound too hopeful. “You mean we’ll work together?” Wednesday gave a roll of her eyes, muttering something under her breath with gritted teeth before finally glaring at you again. “Yes, but only for the fact that half of this school are incompetent adolescents who would perform quite poorly compared to… you.” The Addams reluctantly admitted, her voice becoming strained at the end of her sentence. “Strictly a professional relationship shall be required. Understood?” She offered her perfectly manicured hand to yours, waiting for you to shake with a raise of an eyebrow.
You didn’t hesitate one moment, grasping her cold, stiff hand in hers and shaking it.

Summary: After a chat with Larissa Weems, Wednesday is left confused about her feelings
Pairing: Wednesday x Reader
Too Sharp to Touch Masterlist

Wednesday’s fingers tapped impatiently on the back of her wrists, eyebrows furrowed and sighing slightly in irritation as she paced the office, waiting for Larissa Weems to finally see her. Yes, she had been more or less accused of some previous incidents in the past but that was no excuse for this inexcusable wait time that she was for some reason being forced to suffer through.
You were clearly impatient as well; Wednesday found herself straining to listen to your own fingers tapping out small beats across your thighs as you leaned forward on the bench behind her as she paced. The Addams already had the beat you’d been drumming out memorized forwards and backward, as well as inside and out.
The clock was taunting the both of you, ticking away loudly through the muffled sounds of phone calls and talking from behind the closed door. Wednesday was growing tired of the growing lack of Weems’ appearance in the doorway to her office; all she could think of was the time that was being wasted when she could have been focusing on the issue at hand.
When the raven had nearly reached the point of opening the door herself, the knob twisted and she let out a slight exhale as the meticulously groomed figure of Larissa Weems appeared in the doorway, the professional smile she knew only too well spread across her features.
“Ah, Miss Addams and Miss Y/L/N, welcome in, I’ve been expecting you two.”
“Quite the contrary,” Wednesday muttered, gritting her teeth as she lightly nudged you to get you going, already quickly striding past Weems and into the office. Your leg was warm.
The room was lit with the typical warm glow of the fireplace, a cozy roar ecompanying the gorgon shaped hearth as the principal waved a gloved hand at the two chairs facing her desk. “Please, take a seat. From what Miss Addams has already told me, you heard a gunshot in the woods.” Weems’ eyes narrowed slightly as she spoke in a tone that seemed slightly warning, Wednesday listening intently as she turned to talk to you directly. “Now, Y/N, I believe the two of us have had more than one conversation about your permissions regarding the woods.”
Wednesday raised an eyebrow at you, folding her arms as she watched your eyebrows raise, clearly caught. Even if you might receive some sort of consequence for your disobedience it was well worth having this strange occurrence resolved.
“I know it was before the time we agreed on, but to be fair - “ you glanced at her, eyes narrowing just slightly as you spoke. “It wasn’t my fault.”
Oh, so you were going to play that card.
“Look, Wednesday and I - “ you sighed softly, seemingly struggling to find a way not to get the both of you in too much trouble as you continued - “it was just a dumb joke that was going around, I just had to get some stuff from the woods -”
“Quite the interesting way to discredit yourself.” Wednesday muttered with a roll of her eyes. “What may have happened previous to our current situation is unrelated.” Although your pranks were, albeit, childish and ineffective, they were adequate, and it was odd how she was slightly frustrated to see you put yourself down so quickly. Or perhaps you were merely avoiding more punishment.
Larissa gave a small sigh, rubbing her temples with her gloved hands as she eyed the two of you, eyes still slightly narrowed as she spoke, “I’ll be quite frank with you, I’m not entirely sure what the two of you get up to in your freetime but I will assure you that any continued disregard for the rules that I have to keep my students safe will be accounted for by all means.” Sighing, she straightened and pulled out a manilla folder, placing it in front of her on the desk so that the two of you could see. “I’ve already received a written report from Thing of what he witnessed” - Weems nodded briefly at the two of you - “but I believe I’d rather receive a recount of the situation from Y/N here from your perspective, seeing as you seem to be the main concern of this.”
Wednesday glanced at you as you straightened at being called upon, adjusting slightly in your chair as your eyes flitted from the principal to her before returning. You were anxious just talking about it; she knew your tells, from the constant shifting to the drumming of your fingers atop your thighs. Her jaw tightened as she tried to evaluate why she knew this.
“I was just in the woods, looking around and I had…um…scented something weird earlier like sulfur… Thing came running at me out of nowhere and I heard the gunshot way down.” You gestured with your arm as if to show the direction of where the gunshot had came. “Sounded like a shotgun, but I didn’t catch anything that’d help who actually…y’know…shot it.”
Weems seemed to study you for a long moment, eyes flitting over your uniform and hair, still slightly messy with a few stray twigs from the tumble you’d taken much earlier. Wednesday’s eyes narrowed as she felt her patience beginning to wear. Surely this wasn’t such a difficulty question of your credibility? You were reliable enough, you did your work (sometimes), and you had a solid testimony. It was… adequate, Wednesday had to admit to herself, though she’d rather drive a rusted nail through her cranium than vocally say so to you.
“It isn’t unusual for an occasional gunshot here and there,” Larissa said at last, sighing as she leaned back in her chair, glancing at the fire in the hearth as she spoke. “What with the development of the different hunting gear stores in Jericho I don’t see it being particularly odd. Y/N, your heightened senses could have been a contribution to the fact that the gunshot might’ve sounded closer than where it actually had.” When you opened your mouth to argue, she waved a hand to stop you, continuing.
“The woods are off-limits for non-faculty and normies unless under my permission and throwing out accusations based on only two student testimonies could pose an insult to the services provided from Jericho, and I’m not willing to risk the trust Nevermore has built with them so far.”
Meanwhile Wednesday’s eyes narrowed slightly as she remained silent during Weems’ reasoning, glancing at you every so often when you weren’t looking to observe your reactions. You looked frustrated, to say the least. She couldn’t blame you, seeing as you had appeared pretty frazzled from your experience. Maybe you had a craving for answers? To truly understand anomalies around you? After all, Nevermore was quite the intriguing place. Wednesday’s jaw tightened as she tore her gaze away from you and back to Weems, who was handing you the folder she had placed down earlier, assuming what appeared to solely be Thing’s testimony.
“If you can bring me more credible evidence that these shootings are unusual than we’ll discuss this again but until then we shall be leaving this on hold.”
“So you’re going to just sit in blissful ignorance?” Wednesday raised an eyebrow, tone hardening.
“I’d rather not risk the reputation of Nevermore over a single sound in the woods.” Weems responded, sighing as she stood. “Both of you are dismissed. Y/N, I trust that you’ll return with anything else you’ll find, as well as you Wednesday.”
Wednesday stood, nodding with a small sigh as she glanced at the folder in your hands, stepping slightly closer to examine the report, though she didn’t need to. She knew what it said. It was the same thing that Thing had recalled to Enid earlier in the dorm. A bit exaggerated but plain and to the point.
The raven glanced at you, ready to leave, and, noticing you looked a little lost in thought, she sighed and reluctantly nudged your leg again with hers. “Come on.”
You stood and she watched as you nodded at Weems, who waved a gloved hand in response with a nod as she turned back to her computer, following you out of the office as she closed the door behind the two of you with a quiet thud.
The walk past the main office was silent; Wednesday found it an eery contrast to your normal demeanor, which she typically would’ve found enjoyable if it wasn’t so out of character for you. You were surprisingly tolerable when you were silent and brooding, although the Addams found herself somehow off-put without your chattering. Curious.
That feeling, however, was quickly distinguished when you started rambling the second the two of you were back in the main hallway, more empty of students than usual.
“Look, I know we don’t have a lot of evidence, but I know it wasn’t some random thing out there! Wednesday, it was my danger sense, my fur was standing on end, and you know that wouldn’t just be some random loose shot by town making it act up!” Your hands gestured around as you talked, as if enunciating the points you were making. “Not to mention I scented the sulfur closer to the academy than where I heard the shot.”
Wednesday nodded slightly in acknowledgement, silently noting to write down what you were saying later in the privacy of her dorm. “I assume you’re referring to where the vanilla scent trail was laid.”
“That was you?” Your head tilted to glance at her, eyebrows shooting up with a little sparkle in your eye. The look of awe in your eye was almost comical. Your cluelessness was somehow just so you.
“I wasn’t going to make it impossible,” Wednesday scoffed, rolling her eyes slightly as her tone became matter-of-fact and perfectly neutral. “Not only is that just irrational and foolish but I doubt that you’d be able to find it on your own.” The Addams suppressed a smirk at your look of indignance, followed by you reaching out your foot to hook hers. She quickly adjusted and sidestepped, a slight stumble to her foot which she silently cursed, though she glanced at you, raising her eyebrows.
“Better than last week; your technique is improving.”
You beamed, and the raven glanced away from you to the hallway, confused by the slight prickling her chest at the sight. She didn’t understand what that was, and pushed it away, exhaling slightly as her eyes fell to the manilla folder still in your hand. She reached for it and you handed it over.
“I’ll borrow this for the time being. I’d like to collect some evidence of my own if I could.”
“Oh.” Were you deflating at her words or was she imagining it? You were somehow hard to read at the moment. “I can’t help?”
“If I’m correct about your schedule, I believe you’ll be partaking in your painting lessons with Xavier,” Wednesday shook her head slightly, pausing to glance at you, mentally running through the list of activities she knew the you partook in throughout the week. “From what I know about your studies in art I assume it matters to you as my writing does to me and I shall not interfere strictly on that understanding.”
You nodded slightly, sighing as she watched you put your hands in your pockets, glancing at the folder and then back up at her. “Yeah. Just let me know if anything comes up.”
Wednesday nodded in response, sighing slightly as she briskly turned on her heel, leaving you to your devices as she moved on in the direction of her Hummers meeting, boots clomping through the floors as she heard your footsteps echoing away behind her, the sound ringing on in her mind far more than she liked.
As she passed the commissary she heard a familiar voice, and had to resist the typical response of pressing her pocket knife to the neck of her sudden opponent, sighing as she was approached by Enid, who was smiling and giggling much more than usual.
“What. Are. Those.” Wednesday's eyes hurt just glancing at the neon colored shoes the werewolf was sporting, nose scrunching slightly in disgust. The werewolf grinned and shook her head. “Some of the hottest sneakers right now. Behold!” Enid beamed as she stomped a foot and multicolored lights danced from the soles of her shoes. Wednesday dragged her eyes away, a headache already forming in her temples from the sight.
“Enid, I have a meeting, get to the point.” She muttered out, watching as the blonde nodded.
“Look, the school is doing a little pumpkin carving thing to celebrate Halloween and I was thinking I’d offer, seeing as you like all the spooky vibes.”
Wednesday hesitated, considering the werewolf’s words as she slowly spoke. “Spooky vibes’ aside, I typically refrain from participating in activities to amuse the adolescent youth for a holiday that was invented for the excuse to receive sugar…”
“Y/N will be there.” The huge smile on Enid’s face was telling. Wednesday felt her jaw tighten as she realized exactly what the blonde was doing.
Fists clenching, Wednesday spoke her words slowly, as if they were being dragged out one by one. “I-I’ll consider it.” She wasn’t happy with that prickling she was feeling in her chest again. She didn’t understand it and she surely did not like it.
Wednesday turned to go. She didn’t need to look behind her to know that Enid was smiling like crazy as she walked away.

Some of the current TSTT to keep you all pacified
“You seem eager to get there on time,” Enid teased softly, glancing at Wednesday as they exited through the main entrance, heading onto the main path before them. “Is there any specific reason for that?”
Wednesday instantly shot the blonde a glare, though she felt a small hint of disgust in the back of her mind as she realized it wasn’t nearly as sharp as the ones she typically delivered to anyone else…or you for that matter. Wednesday didn’t like that at all. “I’d advise you inform me of what you’re implying before you lose the ability to do so.” She stepped slightly to the side for more berth and space between her and Enid, respectfully.
Enid, clearly realizing the empty threat, nodded and gave a small smile and a tilt of her head as she hummed and shrugged slightly. “Well, I dunno… I mean, Y/N’s going to be there, right? And you’re working with her on that whole ‘gunshot in the woods’ thing together so maybe you were just… anticipating getting there early.” Her eyes glanced over at the Addams once more. “Though usually you want to make a bad first impression - no offense of course.”

Wednesday had never thought in her whole life that she would ever have to wear the dreadful cat costume she had sported during the Poe Cup in the previous years, but now, somehow, she found herself in the exact same skintight suit, being fitted with a (newly) fixed pair of cat ears from her roommate, who was dressed in similar attire, though the blonde’s black outfit had also been sprinkled with glitter here and there, that of which Wednesday was almost positive she was getting hives from.
Although the goth had rather firmly insisted that she would not be wearing any sort of costume or special outfit for the event, somehow Enid had roped her into it, only managing to get her to agree by reluctantly giving her a plastic jug of fake blood. Of course she didn’t want to be any sort of feline; but a murderous feline? She would settle for. Even if the fake blood had a pathetically runny viscosity and was too bright for the perfectly horrifying shade of red that it was supposed to be.
According to Enid, Nevermore’s carving event was also created with the intention of being dressed in costume, which Wednesday found to be completely unnecessary when the purpose of the event itself wasn’t even directed towards such a thing. And unfortunately, since the raven had refused to wear anything Enid offered, (such as a ridiculous bird outfit complete with a monocle and fake feathers), the old costume was retrieved last minute.
“What are you doing?” Wednesday suddenly spoke, broken out of her thoughts when she felt the texture of something against her face as she instinctively pulled away, eyes narrowing slightly.
“Uhm, whiskers?” Enid held up the makeup brush in one hand and whatever fashion concotion used to create the illusion with the other. “Then we’ll be matching.”
“Absolutely not.” Wednesday shook her head firmly, folding her arms over her chest as she took a small step back. “My answer remains the same as the year previous and if I’m ever forced to wear this atrocious outfit in the future I can assure you that answer will be the same.”
The pout on the werewolf’s face was filled with disappointment, but nodded and put the items away, storing them in her desk on her side of the room before skipping back over. Her costume was just as ridiculous as it was last year; black outfit and ears, whiskers and a cat-like nose painted onto her face, as well as the aforementioned glitter sprinkled here and then. At least Enid could pull it off.
As Enid started to head for the door, Wednesday reached for her fleece hoodie, starting to pull it over her shoulders when the blonde spoke in a confused tone, “you’re covering up the costume?”
“More or less,” Wednesday nodded, feeling slightly more comfortable now that there was at least some sort of covering for the costume. “I agreed to wear this but the conditions of what to wear on top were never discussed. Now let’s go, we’ll be late.”
She followed Enid down the hall, populated with students in costume on their way to the event; Wednesday spotted more than one angel and demon, though most of the costumes were inaccurately portrayed in her opinion. The sky was already mostly dark, and the temperature was wonderfully chilly, accompanied by a small breeze that sent dead leaves flying across campus.
“None taken,” Wednesday didn’t look back at Enid as she continued to walk, focusing on the dimly lit path in front of her that wound through the thinning out trees, the lights of Jericho becoming visible. “If I’m going to be in Jericho then it is a rather popular spot to begin trying to find evidence. Y/N is merely a victim of circumstance.” She could almost feel the werewolf’s eyes on her, those of which she tried to ignore. “If you’re implying what I am suspecting than I would advise you to keep quiet for the time being.”
“Alright, alright.” Enid hummed softly, clearly not going to push as she walked beside the raven. “Are you at least going to stick around to carve any pumpkins or anything?” She was changing the topic. Good.
“I doubt that I’d find pleasure in carving trivial patterns into vegetables with strangers.” Wednesday gave a small sigh, rolling her eyes as she added, “most adolescents' knife skills are pathetic to watch. It’s as if they learned merely from watching one of those judgmental cooking shows. At least the sadism of the judges is admirable.”
As the two stepped into town, Wednesday took note of the amount of people around; usually at this time of night there weren’t many passerby, but it was obvious that the Jericho-hosted event was quite a popular festivity, much to her distaste. Why waste a perfectly dark and intimidating atmosphere on such a trivial holiday spent eating sugar and dressing in foolish wear? Clearly that townsfolk were just as immature as she had suspected.
The lampposts closer to the main area had been strung with jack-o-lantern lights, casting a disgustingly artificial glow over what would have been shadow, and it seemed as if the mayor couldn’t have resisted putting a faux hay bale or scarecrow at every other curb.
The main area had quite a few plastic tables with a few tablecloths spread over, with an army of pumpkins sat around the fountain to be picked and carved for anyone who wished. Wednesday noticed that the crowd mainly consisted of Nevermore students, rather than normies. How unfortunate that the chances of a fight breaking out were now lessened.
Wednesday was able to pick you out of the sea of costumes in an instant.
There you were, dressed in an oddly fitting werewolf costume, which, rather than other werewolf costumes that the Addams had seen, mostly consisting of a plastic mask and a plaid button up, was actually somewhat decent.
You had small smears of fake blood on your arms and face, that of which was far more realistic than the ridiculous bright artificial colored blood she sported at the moment; Wednesday would definitely have Thing swipe it later.
Your claws were out, as well, which she definitely didn’t see often, and unlike Enid’s, which were typically painted a plethora of painfully bright neons, were just a dark black, fitting the simple aesthetic that claws were supposed to convey.
The only odd thing about it was the fact that you didn’t carry them the way that werewolves typically did; you almost seemed as if you were unsure of how to carry them, making sure they weren’t in danger of ever accidentally touching anyone or getting stuck on things. In fact, your hands were shaking. Though you still were talking with everyone and conversing with a smile and laughs, most likely making those stupid jokes you always did.
And when you saw her the way she saw your eyes light up made Wednesday want to strangle you. You were doing something to her to make her feel that unpleasant prickling sensation.
Wednesday reluctantly followed Enid into the crowd, looking around with eyes that dared anyone to make a comment about her appearance; she always had her pocket knife on her if anyone wanted to make the slightest jab.
“I’m not going to lie, I didn’t expect to see you here,” you grinned, approaching her with that fast gait you always sported when you were excited. It made Wednesday realize how much of a werewolf you really were, even when you weren’t wolfed out. Though she still had yet to experience that. “Where in the hell did Enid drag that thing out of?”
“Weems kept the costumes in storage,” Enid beamed, glancing at Wednesday proudly. “I mean, come on, she looks pretty good, right?”
“I was hoping I’d look dreadful, actually,” she deadpanned with a roll of her eyes, watching your movements as you studied her own false blood.
“I mean yeah, it’s a good costume, but the fake blood…” you trailed off, covering your mouth to hide a smile. “It looks like water dyed with food coloring.”
“Finally,” Wednesday muttered sarcastically, feeling a tinge of satisfaction that at least someone agreed. “Whoever created it wanted to make a mocking of blood itself.”
“It was all the party store had left,” Enid said with a small pout, that of which made Wednesday sigh slightly. “I’m off to grab some of the skittles, it looks like they’ve got a whole bowl.”
“Save me some,” you called back as the costumed blonde disappeared into the crowd, at the exact same time that Wednesday muttered, “you’ll get yourself sick.”
Now that the two of you were alone, the Addams reached down, taking one of your hand and inspecting it, studying your claws as your eyes widened in surprise. “Wednesday, what are you-“
“Your hands are shaking,” she observed after a second, releasing you and placing her own hand back into the pocket of her jacket. “I wish to know why. Either you’re on a sugar high or I’d draw the assumption that you’re anxious.” Was she even right? She didn’t understand half of how body language connected to emotions. She hated the feeling of vulnerability that came with the territory.
“Sugar high, probably,” you responded after a moment, averting eye contact to flex your hand, eyes focused on the sharp claws at your fingertips. “Either that or I’m not used to having these bad boys out. They're kind of awkward to carry when I’m not wolfed out or whatever.” You glanced back up at her, folding your arms behind your back as you changed the topic. “I take it you’re not stoked to carve any pumpkins?”
Wednesday took a moment, eyes narrowing in slight puzzled confusion, pausing before raising an eyebrow. “‘Stoked’?”
“Oh, that’s just a dumb word for excited or whatever,” you shrugged slightly, a hint of red appearing over the skin of your nose. “Whatever. I’m just confused why you’d be here other than to humor Enid.”
“I’d rather try and collect witness evidence from anyone here who could’ve heard it other than you and Thing,” Wednesday shook her head, glancing over at the swarm of adolescents enjoying themselves. “Gunshots are not silent, to my knowledge.”
“And how are you going to do that?” You raised an eyebrow, tilting your head in slight confusion.
“I’m not. You are.” Wednesday gestured with her head to the crowd, the faintest hint of a smirk tugging at the corner of her lips. “I’m sure with that sickeningly charming personality of yours you’ll be able to draw some info out of someone.”
“You’re calling me charming?”
The shit-eating grin on your face made Wednesday roll her eyes again, responding with gritted irritation. “Don’t push it, Y/N. Get. The job. Done.”
“And my reward when I do?” Oh, you were really testing your luck now. Wednesday could feel herself staring literal daggers at you. “Not being strangled.”
The disappointment in your eyes made her slightly regret her words for some reason, and the Addams gave another roll of her eyes, sighing with irration. “If you’re lucky, sone candy. Whatever will keep that werewolf mind of yours motivated. Satisfied?”
Your nod of excitement was almost comical, and Wednesday watched with a raised eyebrow as you took off into the crowd, the faux wolf tail clipped to your cargo pants swaying to and fro.
The night wore on, people beginning to grow more excited as the party ramped up. It was more than once that Wednesday found herself grimacing in disgust at the sight of more than one couple engaging in intimate acts every now and then. The amount of indecency from youth was unsurprising.
You, on the other hand, did as told. She watched you like a hawk as you had multiple discussions with both students and normies, seemingly lighthearted and joking. You were focused for once. Could it have been at the bribe she’d offered? That had to be the answer.
Speaking of, the Addams abruptly realized that she was more or less obliged to follow through on her promise of candy, and with a roll of her eyes, stepped into the mess of elbows and sweaty costumed teens to retrieve some. Thankfully, most instinctively pulled away from the feeling of her cold body brushing against theirs, but even so Wednesday felt slightly choked by the amount of people.
Stopping by the plastic table that held three large bowls of confections, she sighed and reached over to take a few; it didn’t matter exactly what she gave you since you were likely to be happy at whatever you received. Wednesday retrieved a couple of whatever ‘snickers’ were, as well as a couple more small bite sized candies before placing them in her jacket pocket, turning to leave when she spotted a flash of pink in someone’s hand.
There, in a tall boy dressed as a cowboy’s hand, was a package of bright pink packaging, which Wednesday vaguely recognized as your favorite candy. She’d seen you eating it once or twice in the dining hall. A quick glance at the candy bowl proved that the one the cowboy had retrieved was either the last or only one left.
Without a second thought the Addams reached out and tore it from his hand, shoving it into her pocket. When he turned to protest, she glared witheringly at him, speaking coldly, “consider touching me and I’ll end your bloodline.”
In her mind, her reasoning for going out of her way to do so was to satisfy her inner sadist and deprive the boy of his sugary desires. That was definitely the reason.
When most of the pumpkins around the fountain were gone and the grass was littered with plastic cups, candy wrappers, and pumpkin guts, you returned, looking slightly less energetic but prideful.
“As promised, I got results.” You pulled up the sleeve of your jacket, showing multiple paragraphs written in pen on your arm, making Wednesday raise an eyebrow.
“And you chose your arm as a canvas. How creative,” her tone was sarcastic as she sighed, stepping closer to briefly scan over the scribbles, taking it all in to memory as she ignored your expectant eyes on her. “You received testimony from only two witnesses?”
“Mostly everyone here is drunk,” you sighed, nose scrunching in slight distaste as Wednesday glanced up at you, questioning. “And you…don’t. Well, either way it’s better than nothing.”
She dug into her pocket, pulling out the handful of candies. “As promised,” she sighed, dumping them into your waiting hands.
The fact that your eyes lit up the second she saw the candy she had taken made everything worth it.

A/N: MERRY CHRISTMAS, wishing everyone the best holidays, I'll see all of you next year! <3

Enid Sinclair was almost positive that she was losing her mind.
Watching you and Wednesday converse was just a slow torture at this point; could you two not see the obvious connection right in front of you? It made the blonde want to shake some sense into one of you.
After the carving event from last week, Enid had returned to the dorm early to see Wednesday seated with her cello on the balcony, fingers poised over the strings, a breath of anticipation in the air as if about to start… but she didn’t. It was as if the Addams were frozen in thought, caught in her own mind. When the werewolf had called out to her roommate, questioning if she was alright, she received some half-assed response about preparing her sheet music.
But she knew otherwise.
You, of course, were trying to be subtle and failing. Miserably. You usually weren’t such a bad actor when it came to these things. And Enid had seen you with crushes before; she knew the signs, and you definitely had your eyes on the Addams.
So screw the whole “partners investigation”, she would not be able to physically or mentally handle it if she watched her roommate go over her file of evidence with you in the dining hall one more time. If you moved your hand just a tiny bit to the left you could have touched Wednesday's hand. Or if you scooted just slightly to the side you could have touched your thighs. And Enid had a sneaking suspicion that her roommate would allow your touch, not to mention the fact that she’d literally seen her do so before.
It was after you had your fighting lesson with Wednesday that Enid approached her roommate, already very much prepared to play her well-practiced role of matchmaker. The Addams was storing her gear in her locker neatly, placing her helmet on the top shelf as Enid approached, her neat bangs slightly pressed against her forehead with sweat.
“Howdy Wednesday, how was fighting practice?” Enid hummed as she skipped over, grinning.
“Average,” came the unsatisfying response. Enid had to resist the urge to roll her eyes. As the goth started down the hall she quickly followed suit; how could such a short girl move so fast?
“That’s it? Just average?” She pressed gently, following her movements. “Come on, you gotta give me the details.” The blonde was met with Wednesday’s dark eyes flitting over to meet hers, eyebrows slightly furrowed as she responded easily, “What more is there to say? It was merely lessons. Nothing more, nothing less. Just an associate returning a favor.”
Associate. Enid knew her roommate to know that that wasn’t the only word she’d use to describe you. Huffing, she swerved around a passing student as she spoke, being as subtle as possible. “Did you have fun?”
Wednesday paused, eyes widening slightly in disbelief as she glanced at the blonde, nose scrunching in slight disgust. “Enid, I assure you I do not “have fun”. I merely fulfilled a responsibility. What pleasure would one find in that?” She picked up the pace slightly.
“I dunno Willa, you just aren’t complaining as much as you usually do about…anything.” Enid grinned softly, daring to give the raven a soft nudge to the shoulder with her own. Wednesday tensed but didn’t push her away, merely turning the corner towards their shared dorm, and heading for the stairs. “If in the case I have found satisfaction in my lessons with Y/N it’d be simply for the reason that it’s refreshing to teach someone who possesses actual skill at the sport rather than dumb luck.” Wednesday paused slightly, eyes narrowing as she shot Enid a look. “And if you tell her that I ever said such a thing then the both of you will end up with a silver bullet in the leg.” Unfazed, Enid gave a slight shrug, nodding in agreement to her roommate’s statement. At least now she was getting somewhere. “Are you planning on working with Y/N today?”
“If we progress further in our case then I’d assume so, but nothing has been planned for today. It’s rather convenient, seeing as my writing hour is approaching.” As Enid made the climb after her up the narrow staircase, she had to think fast. She couldn’t give up now, not after getting this far. Looking around quickly she gave a soft curse, wishing silently that Thing could be here when she actually needed him. Pulling out her phone she shot you quick text before stuffing her phone back into her pocket, casually leaning against the doorframe of the dorm as Wednesday entered her closet to change.
“Well, I hope you enjoy yourself, I’ll be out of your hair soon anyways, I’m off with Y/N and the gang to go to the lake.” There was a silence that followed from the closet, the only sound present being the faint ruffling of clothing as Enid’s eyes wandered over the wooden doorframe, making sure not to accidentally peek. She had the Addams now, she knew it. It was a success to herself knowing that if she managed to get Wednesday to abandon her writing hour for you she’d be sure of her suspicions. After a moment the raven reappeared, dressed comfortably in her white and black striped shirt with her black fleece hoodie pulled over, adjusting her sleeves as she spoke, eyebrows furrowed just slightly.
“I wasn’t aware Y/N’s schedule had changed.”
“Yeah, it was like a recent thing, Bianca shot the group chat a text and apparently everyone was free so it was pretty lucky. Even Kent is coming.”
“And Marcelo?” “What does Marcelo have to do with anything?” Enid paused, interest piqued as she glanced at the raven, who was now seated at her desk, fingers poised at her typewriter as if ready to type, though she hadn’t moved yet, eyes focused on the keys as she muttered,
“No particular reason; morbid curiosity spurs me to refer to the fact that Marcelo has certain interests in Y/N.”
“Yeah, but -” Enid moved further into the room, raising an eyebrow. If anything, you hated Marcelo, and she knew it well. God, could she go on about the nights that you’d spent ranting about the dumbass. Yeah, Marcelo. “- he’s mostly just tagging along because Kent’s gonna be there. He’s kind of hard to exclude.” She paused, frowning softly before glancing at the Addams, who was now typing away, precisioned fingers flying across the keyboard. “Do you expect us to just kick him out?”
“Out of pure sadism, I might go so far as to say yes,” Wednesday muttered under her breath, easily detectable to Enid’s ears as her fingers pounded harder against the keyboard.
“Well, we’re not, unfortunately.” Enid paused, biting her lip slightly as her eyes darted around the room, mind racing to find a solution. Maybe this was going to be harder than she thought. Taking a quick inhale, she rapidly decided that she’d just have to hope for the best. “Well, I hope you enjoy your night, I’m gonna head out.” The blonde shouldered her bag that was already ready on her bed, walked out of the dorm, and closed the door behind her.
God, she hoped this would work.
-
The lake was calm. Silent. You liked it.
The group was typically rowdy, breaking through the calm quiet of the water, but you didn’t mind that either. The sky was already darkening, the sound of a few crickets filling the air as everyone set up. A calm breeze sent the trees gently ruffling, the waters of the lake rippling. It was almost hard to imagine the exact same body of water being filled with students and boats, bustling with energy.
“Finish daydreaming and help me blow up the float, furball.” You caught an elbow in the side from Bianca, and you let out a soft wince, rolling your eyes as you held out your hand for said float, sitting on the dock beside the siren to begin filling the large float, preparing the pump, and connecting the attachments. “We’re lucky if Kent doesn’t pop one like last time.” “For your information, it was a bet, which I totally won,” Kent spoke up from the hill, scowling slightly as he worked at unbuttoning his shirt, and throwing it at Bianca. “At least I follow through on bets, unlike someone-”
You let out a scoff, rolling your eyes as you groaned, starting to pump air into the float. “You guys really expected me to actually hunt down a squirrel?” “You’re the one that suggested it in the first place,” Kent shrugged, at the exact same time that Yoko shouted from the pathway - “You’re a werewolf, dumbass! Wolves hunt things!”
“Well it wasn’t even relatively close to a full moon so it was automatically discredited,” you grumbled to yourself, huffing as you put more pressure on the pump handle. Yoko stepped to drop her bag on the dock, and the clinking of bottles immediately made you perk up, instantly recognizing the sound. “You brought booze?”
“Don’t tell me you expected less,” Yoko scoffed, a small grin playing on her face that perfectly showed off her fangs that glinted slightly in the evening light. “Isn’t that my role here?”
"Hell yes, Tanaka," Bianca grinned from her position, working at the other float as she spoke.
"The good stuff?" You perked slightly, curious, as you pulled at the bag, trying to get a peek before Enid slapped your hands away.
“You don't get any,” Enid huffed, folding her arms as she shot you a look, raising an eyebrow whilst dumping her towel onto the dock. “We’re not supposed to have it in the first place and I’m sure you all remember from the last time that she can’t handle it.”
"And yes, it's the good stuff," Yoko grinned slightly, emphasizing her words. "Don't expect anything less."
“Fuck you,” you stuck out your tongue at the blonde, who shot one right back. “You were tipsy as hell, don’t get me started.” Enid rolled her eyes, sitting on the wood as she huffed in response, “Still not as bad as you. You’re lucky Weems didn’t catch you or you’d’ve had even more community service.” After a moment she cocked her head, in an almost dog-like fashion. “Aren’t you gonna get changed though?”
“Miss I’m-In-Charge told me to blow up this shit,” you roll your eyes, ignoring the look Bianca shoots you. “If you don't mind taking over then I can get it done.”
Enid sighed and moved you out of the way, taking the pump in her own hands as she gestured you to go. “Just don’t get run over.”
You paused, scanning the undergrowth around the lake for a good spot, eyes narrowing as you silently thanked the stars that you had a decent vision in the dark. “give me like two minutes.” You scooped up your change of clothing, kicking off your shoes as you stepped onto the path, dodging a chunk of mud hurled from Ajax at Kent.
It took you a bit to get deep enough into the undergrowth that you were sure you were out of view, not that you thought anyone would go looking in the dark for you. Stepping behind a clump of bushes you pulled at your top, placing it on a branch to hang as you tugged at the straps of your tank top. It was almost eerily quiet now that you were far off from the group; the sounds of laughter and talking were audible, yes, but only faintly, one that could be easily tuned out if you didn’t focus on it.
A faint stick cracking brought you out of your thoughts as you paused, eyebrows furrowing as you straightened, eyes whipping around the foliage in search of the source. Nothing. Odd. You shrugged it off; it must be a rabbit or something like that.
“Y/N?” Jumping clear out of your skin, you let out a hiss of surprise as you raced to cover yourself, pulling a towel around your upper half as you turned on your heel, eyes wide and senses up, to see Marcelo standing a couple feet away, partially hidden by low hanging branches.
“Marcelo, what the actual fuck?” You hissed, heart pounding as you took a small step back, feeling uncomfortably vulnerable with just the towel between you and him. He was giving you that stupid grin, the one you wished to God you could smack off of his face.
“Wow, did not think I’d walk in on some Y/L/N ass tonight-” he took a step forwards, almost matching your step back as he spoke as his grin grew slightly. “You look good.”
“What the hell are you doing here? The group is all the way over there -” You pointed with your arm, a frown on your face as you spoke. “No offense but it’s making you look like a creep right now that you were hiding in the bushes of all places watching me strip.” “Oh come off it, don’t be sensitive,” the werewolf rolled his eyes with a scoff, gesturing to the towel over his shoulder as he took another step forward. “I just got here, I heard movement on the bank and thought it was the group.”
“In the bushes?” You frown scornfully, adjusting the towel tighter around your chest as you bump against the trunk behind you, eyebrows narrowing as you feel your heart pick up the pace. “Don’t be an idiot, just go.”
“What a warm welcome,” he muttered, eyes lingering slightly on your towel. “You don’t need to rush me away like that. Don’t tell me you don’t wanna see me?” “I never said that.” You pause, lying right through your teeth as you cast a glance through the undergrowth, almost praying that Enid, Yoko, or someone would show up. “If you’d ever heard of privacy maybe you’d understand.” “Come on, Y/N -” Marcelo took a step forward, warm hand landing on your wrist. You frowned, eyes narrowing as you tried to shake it off, your grip on the towel loosening as you did so. Quickly reacting, you tried to move away to fix it but instead, the werewolf reached for it, "I can help with that-” Just as you were about to smack the shit out of him, he froze in place, eyes glazing over slightly as he took a small step back.
“Marcelo, what the fuck-” you stepped forward, eyes widening as right before you he crumpled, body collapsing onto the dirt as he passed out cold. You quickly scrambled to throw on your top, before kneeling and checking his pulse. Alive, yes. Conscious, obviously not, but you couldn’t figure out what the hell was happening until you spotted Thing, beside his left ankle, which now had a needle jammed into it.
“Thing?” Your eyes widened in shock, taking a moment to process before you stuttered. “W-what the hell did you do? He’s not gonna die, is he?”
“Unfortunately not.” A voice to your left scared the shit out of you for the second time that night as you jumped, bumping into the branch beside you. “Shit! What the- the-”
Your words fell away as you narrowed your eyes, recognizing Wednesday’s dark form among the trees, arms folded over her chest with a barely concealed look of disgust at the unconscious Marcelo, eyes dark. It took you a couple seconds to catch your breath again as you immediately felt your heartbeat pick right back up again, at a loss for words.
“It was a simple dose of thiopental. He’ll most likely experience a few side effects once it wears off, but fortunately, you won’t have to suffer through that again.” The Addams stepped forward, nudging his ankle as she leaned down, removing the needle and placing it neatly in her bag. “It was pathetic to watch, being honest.”
“B-but why- how-” you fought to understand, placing a finger on your temple as you glanced at her, somehow surprised by her nonchalance. “You knew I was here?”
“I was sending Thing to drop off the towel Enid had left in the dorm when he informed me of your situation. I accompanied him back with the sedatives.” Wednesday’s dark eyes met yours evenly, tone now laced with faint disdain. “Believe me when I say I’d be more than glad to do it again. You weren’t the only one bothered by him.”
“Yeah, he’s an ass.” You mumbled breathlessly, eyes dropping to Marcelo once more as you softly inhaled, fighting down a shudder. As if sensing your discomfort, Wednesday took a step backward, glancing out over the lake as she muttered, “This will stay between us three, understood? If he asks questions, let me know.” You gave a little nod, recovering your breath as you found the words you needed, meeting her gaze once more as you felt your pulse quicken once more. “Thank you.” “Don’t mention it.” Wednesday turned her head slightly, breaking eye contact as she gazed across the lake through the branches. “I’ll have to remind you in the future to carry around the correct poisons.” She bent down, grabbing Marcelo’s wrists as Thing moved to support his waist, the two of them positioned to haul him away.
“Do you need help?” You took a step forward, already reaching for one of the werewolf’s ankles to be of assistance, but Wednesday shook her head, the faintest sadistic gleam in her eye that honestly, at this point you were used to. “That won’t be necessary. Me and Thing have performed this task several times before; I’m looking forward to this.” Nodding, you watched as the two of them easily slid the unconscious boy up the hill, quickly disappearing into the dark as you took a moment to process, slowly sliding down to a squat as the welcoming and comforting scent of dirt and undergrowth filled your senses, your adrenaline slowly dying as you let out a long sigh, processing as you grounded yourself, the only sound present in your senses now the faint chatter in the distance and the trees swaying gently.
“Y/N? Where the hell are you?” Broken out of your thoughts, you glanced out over the shore, spotting Enid, hand shielding her eyes as she approached. “Are you good? It’s been a lot longer than two minutes-” “I’m fine, E,” you stood, brushing off your arms as you threw your towel and clothes over your shoulder, stepping out of your hiding spot as you approached, moving her hand out of her face. “Took longer than I thought. I’m all good.”

It wasn’t hard for you to hear the excited exclamations of students greeting parents in the quad, the sound of cheerful semester recounts, laughter, embarrassed complaints, and little siblings running around practically assaulting your ears as you sat on your bed in your dorm.
Your hands anxiously worked away at a fidget ball that sat in your lap, absentmindedly flipping switches on and off as you stared off into space, your mind racing. You weren’t even in uniform, dressed only in an oversized t-shirt and shorts, despite the dropping temperatures of the season.
You were going to have to go out eventually, of that you were well aware, though the thought put a lump in your throat as you debated whether or not your father was actually coming. Did you want him there? A part of you in the back of your mind was saying no, but you didn’t want to walk out into the quad only for there to be nobody for you. He didn’t come last year, but maybe he’d had a change of heart. You strained just slightly, praying in the back of your mind that your enhanced hearing would pick up the faintly familiar clomp of his boots, but all you could hear was the muddled chaos that surrounded the academy, like a fog shielding you from what went beyond.
Your hands continued to move faster and faster on the fidget cube, twisting, pulling, flipping whatever you could, as you took small breaths to soothe your nerves. It had been the same last year, but it was your first year at Nevermore, you assumed he had just been adjusting. Besides, it wasn’t all that bad, you got to hang out with Enid’s brothers and they were pretty damn good at frisbee. At least you had that consolation. Wednesday had even let you draw by her.
As for Wednesday, you were sure that her family was coming. They had come last year and the year before, and you were nearly positive that she was already at the quad.
Standing, you ran a weary hand through your mess of hair, realizing that if your father had in fact come then he would be expecting you in shape. As if out of habit you quickly moved to your dresser, working on slipping out of your shorts and into your recently cleaned uniform pants while your other hand worked a snaggly comb through your hair, using your phone camera to make sure there wasn’t a single strand out of place.
Your hands quickly worked up your undershirt with something akin to panic as you buttoned it up, fixing your collar as you retrieved your blazer, shrugging it on and fastening it. Struggling as usual with your tie, you did it as well as you could, shoving the bottom under the collar of your blazer, praying that it looked good enough. Maybe convincing yourself that you looked good enough was your own way of believing your father was coming. He’d always preferred that you looked neat anyway.
You hesitated once at the door, before placing your fidget cube into your pocket, opening the door, and heading for the quad.
-
It was all too familiar, even though you’d experienced it only once before. You hovered by the entrance of the quad, not exactly inside, standing on the threshold in the moody lighting of the academy as your eyes darted between family from family, the usual sea of purple uniform now mixed with flannels, neons, and more. It was loud, but nothing you couldn’t handle, if you managed to work up the courage to actually engage. The hall you stood in felt lonely compared to the bustling quad, only occasionally occupied by a passing teacher tossing you a piteous look as they passed.
Your hands were in your pockets, one of which still continued to fiddle with the fidget cube as your hesitation continued. All it took was a couple steps into the crisp late autumn air and you’d find out if he really had come. You watched as Eugene excitedly talked with his moms, something about insects no doubt, as Xavier and Bianca talked with each other, both of their parents void as usual. At least they didn’t handle it like children. Recognized one or two of Enid’s brothers wrestling in the corner.
You were slightly startled when you felt a presence at your side, whipping around to spot Wednesday, dressed neatly in uniform, eyes slightly narrowed as she watched you, speaking calmly.
“You’re nervous.”
“Yeah, no shit, Sherlock,” you grumbled, keeping your tone annoyed to fight off the nerves, hoping she couldn’t sense how on edge you really were. Pausing, you eyed her, slightly confused as you added. “Why aren’t you with your family?” “My mother has taken a moment to engage with Weems and reminisce about their past as she typically does. I’d prefer not to participate.” Wednesday glanced out at the crowd and you followed her gaze, already spotting the principal talking to the darkly dressed Addams. “If I recall correctly, last year you were eager to participate, yet here you are, quivering like a lost puppy.”
“Look - I’m not scared, okay? I just…” your tone softened as you trailed off, before picking up again, in a quieter voice. “I don’t wanna get disappointed again.”
“Your father would be quite irresponsible if he didn’t make an appearance for the second time in a row,” Wednesday pointed out, her tone now holding a hint of annoyance as if bothered by the mention of it. “Your expectations should be lowered.”
“He’s not irresponsible, he’s just-” you bit your tongue as you defended your father hotly, ears turning slightly red as you huffed - “he’s a busy guy, he’s got a lot to work with. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t care about me-” “Yet he fails to show up for his only child.”
“How would you know? I’ve still got time.” Checking your watch you confirmed it, looking back at Wednesday as you gave a soft shrug, shifting your position slightly to look back over the quad, watching the controlled chaos continue. You were pulled out of your thoughts by the feeling of cold fingers brushing your neck, and your eyes went wide as your head turned quickly, eyes dropping down to see Wednesday adjusting your tie for you. “What the hell are you doing-” “Fixing this disgrace you call a knot. Whoever taught you how to tie a tie clearly knew nothing of the task.” Wednesday muttered, now standing right in front of you, head slightly tilted up as her dark eyes focused on what she was doing, hands quickly and expertly moving at the article of clothing with practiced expertise.
“I taught myself,” you give a soft frown, but you don’t move, slightly frozen as if hyperaware of the stark contrast of her cold skin brushing against yours.
“It shows. If you wish to impress your father then the least you could do is ask for some assistance.” Her tone was sarcastic now. She clearly didn’t believe your father was showing up. You felt a small huff of frustration escape you, but you didn’t argue as you watched her tuck your tie back under your blazer, now with a much neater and almost fancier knot in its place. Her hands slightly lingered on the fabric, resting against your neck before she moved away quickly, hands returning to her sides as she looked back up at you with what you would call a satisfied expression. “I’ll have Thing guide you, he’s particularly handy with knots.”
“Was that a pun?” You perked up, a small grin forming on your face as you saw her shoot you a glare.
“Don’t push your luck, Y/N.”
“Then at least wish me good luck.” You gave her a slight nudge with your elbow, which was returned with a sharper one in response, making you grunt.
“Dreadful luck.” Wednesday nodded, a faint roll of her eyes accompanying her words, starting back off into the quad. As the Addams left your side you followed suit, stepping into the crisp air and shouldering your way through families, eyes darting back and forth, ears doing an equally focused job of honing out different voices and footsteps, trying to trace them back to something familiar.
It was all too familiar, but it wasn’t welcoming. All you felt was the lack of what you wanted, what you needed. Everything was too loud, too much. Too many voices that didn’t belong to you, that you didn’t recognize. Too many bodies, pressing in close against you. Your hand was already back on your fidget cube, flipping switches inside of your blazer. Your throat felt dry, your hands clammy.
The scent of tobacco was the one thing that you recognized, and you felt your anxiety fall away, brightening instantly as you whirled around on your foot, instantly recognizing the figure standing in front of you, the sweep of grayed hair, and that ever-familiar green raincoat. “Nani!” You practically fell into your grandma’s arms, nuzzling her welcoming warmth as you felt her hands on your back, steadying you as she chuckled, a smile gracing her features. She wasn’t in uniform this time; most of the times you had seen her outside of her home she was in uniform, working as an assistant sheriff alongside Galpin in Jericho, but now she just looked like your grandma, and you couldn’t be more happy.
“Y/N, always a pleasure my darling. How has Nevermore been treating you? Let me get a good look at you.” You obeyed, stepping out of the embrace with a big smile, watching as her crinkled eyes took in your appearance, from your slightly muddied boots to your neatly combed hair, quite the contrast to each other. Her hands moved up to your blazer, and you watched as she gave an impressed look, raising an eyebrow. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you tie a knot this well, Y/N- where did you learn this?” “Oh, I didn’t tie it, I had a friend help me.” You felt a small blush creep back to your face as you reached up to scratch the nape of your neck with a tiny grin. “I’m still not the best in that department.”
“Friend, huh? Don’t tell me it’s this “Wednesday” I’ve been hearing about lately?” Nani gave a soft smile, her tone gently teasing you as she poked your side. “You seem pretty fond of her.”
“S-she’s a good friend,” you admitted, trying to ignore the heat in your face that was becoming more and more prominent at the mere mention of the Addams.
“Well, I’m glad you’ve found a good friend here.” Nani nodded approvingly, hands on your shoulders as she hummed, her voice becoming a little more serious as she paused, taking a small breath before continuing in a solemn tone, “Y/N…your father…he won’t be making it.” You felt your excited smile fall almost instantly, disappointed, as you looked away, not wanting to meet her apologetic expression as if it would only worsen your mood, muttering. “Yeah, I figured… What is it this time, another ‘big conference?’”
“Something like that, he didn’t bother to specify,” Nani spoke with distaste now, making it clear her disapproval over her son’s actions. “All I know is that he’d be gone for a week or two. Seeing as your situation with Parent’s Weekend last year I wanted to take his place for you.” Taking a deep breath her expression melted into something more sympathetic as her hands gave your shoulders a soft squeeze. “I’m sorry, Y/N. I know you were excited.”
“It’s okay, Nani, really…” you mumbled, looking up to meet her gaze, giving her a convincing look as an attempt to soothe both her and yourself. “I’m just happy you’re here. Did you take time off? I thought Galpin had you on patrol like- all the time.”
Nani nodded slightly, her expression brightening as her eyes crinkled she gave a nod. “He’s out for a couple days investigating something on the edge of town. I’m not sure it’s anything that’ll end up being serious, but seeing as I have some free time I wanted to make my way up here.”
She took a breath, pausing before she raised an eyebrow, curious now, as she gave you a little nudge as she asked.
“Now, how’s your wolf coming along? Last I heard you’ve been working on your hunting?”
You felt a small tinge of nerves now, hesitating as you sputtered, “-I-it’s- still going great... hunting-” You didn’t get it, you always faltered talking about your wolf. It felt embarrassing, taboo like you weren’t supposed to mention it. You were still adjusting to it being brought up by your family. “Still getting used to it, I guess-”
Nani seemed a little skeptical now, studying you as she folded her arms, eyeing you not unkindly as she poked, “Y/N, you know I’m not your father. You can share with me about your wolf. I’m here to help you. Better than the werewolf instructors you have here at least.” You let out a small huff of disgust at the mention, nodding in agreement as you grumbled, “All they really talk about is werewolf reproduction in class now…knotting, breeding… it’s like health class back at Woodsmore but worse.”
“Well who knows? That information might come in handy soon.” The second you saw Nani wink you wanted to dig a hole, crawl inside and hide, your shoulders tensing up as your face reddened and you gave an embarrassed, “Nani, you can’t-” Your words were interrupted by a tall presence at your side, and you saw Nani glance away from you as you turned to face none other than Morticia Addams herself, Gomez at her side with a welcoming expression on his face. The goth woman spoke first, a smile gracing her features as she addressed Nani first. “Mrs. Lyall, a pleasure to meet you. I’m Morticia, and this is my husband, Gomez.” Morticia extended her hand to Nani, and you watched, in stunned silence as your grandma shook hands, the two of them both exchanging a welcoming glance as Gomez followed suit, offering a handshake as well. The couple turned to you next, and Morticia’s gaze softened as it fell upon you, her tone now somewhat approving. “And you must be Y/N. I’ve heard much about you from our dear Wednesday. I’m glad to finally have a face to match.” As if in a daze, you felt your throat tighten, your heart racing as your blush deepened and you nodded meekly, shaking her hand that was just as cold as Wednesday’s if not more.
“I’m quite pleased that she’s taken a liking to someone. It’s been quite a while since we’ve seen someone our little raincloud approves of.” Gomez nodded proudly, beaming as he glanced up at his wife. “We’d like to invite the two of you to join our family for the meal.”
You tilted to the side a little as Nani continued the conversation, spotting Wednesday standing beside who you assumed was Pugsley, the latter of which was already gathering a plate of food while Wednesday sat stiffly on the picnic bench, reading a book; at one point her eyes met yours, and you quickly looked back to the conversation, where Nani was already smiling and nodding in agreement with whatever Morticia was saying. You were caught off-guard when Gomez leaned down and gave you a warm nudge to your side, speaking quietly with a small grin. “You seem to have a liking for our little deathday, hm?” You felt your face redden again, and you hesitated only for a moment before giving a small nod, meeting his gaze.
“Well, our Wednesday has quite the particularity for grave-digging, and your werewolf capabilities would serve useful in the task.” He smiled as he took Morticia’s hand, lovingly looking up at her as he sighed, “I remember our first date going similar, don’t you, Tish?”
“Indeed, my dear.” Morticia let out an equally passionate sigh, planting a kiss on her husband’s cheek as she continued, “And what a beautifully terrifying night. I’m sure if done right Wednesday would enjoy something similar.”
You awkwardly scratched your neck, smiling with embarrassment as you mumbled out, feeling all three pairs of eyes watching you, “I-I guess I could try-”
You felt Nani’s warm hand on your back as both of the Addams’ chuckled warmly, Morticia giving you an affectionate smile, “Well I’m sure we’ll be quite pleased to have you. If Pugsley hasn’t gotten the timing wrong then I believe the food is being served, if the two of you would like to join.”
You followed the couple, Nani at your side, towards the reserved table, shouldering your way through students, parents, and siblings scrambling to find seats among the crowd. As you approached the table with the group you saw Wednesday glance up, pausing as she cast a dark glare at Morticia, who ignored it completely, arm in Gomez’s as she took a seat beside him on the opposite of the table. Pugsley already had a plate of food, seated on Wednesday’s other side, and your eyes narrowed as you felt Nani sandwiching you between her and Wednesday as she slid into her seat.
You felt the raven’s cold body heat against yours almost immediately, that of which you were somehow used to at this point; her shoulders tensed slightly and her jaw clenched, but she didn’t move away from you either. Trying not to move too much to bother her, you remained stiff for a moment, your heart still racing as you placed your hands on the table in front of you, eyes resting on the table in front of you as the conversation continued around you about the weather and seasonal events.
“So, Wednesday, how was your beekeeping extracurricular been treating you?” Morticia turned her attention to the raven at your side and you glanced over at her, watching as the goth lifted her chin and spoke evenly as usual.
“The hive has been producing quite well; Eugene expects that we’ll have more for the harvest this year.” Her tone became slightly satisfied as her gaze remained fixed on Morticia, continuing, “The Hummers continues to be one of the more fruitful extracurriculars, as opposed to the less useful ones…”
You already knew she was talking about the Pitch Slaps. It hadn’t been the first time you’d heard the Addams bashing the choir, and to be honest it was kind of amusing to see the rivalry she had created between the two clubs. “I’m quite pleased to hear that, darling. And Y/N, remind me of which extracurricular you participate in?” The attention of the table turned to you as you were addressed, and you hesitated before responding, aware of Wednesday’s eyes now on you. “I’m still working on archery…it’s the only one that really looked interesting to me.” You gave a soft shrug, not mentioning the fact you hadn’t shown up to said club for the past three days. “Nothing too special really. I’ve been focusing with Xavier on art instead-”
“If I remember correctly didn’t you say that Wednesday was giving you fighting lessons?” Nani spoke up with a raised eyebrow, and your eyes widened sensing the surprise in the air as both Gomez and Morticia beamed while Wednesday stiffened slightly beside you. “Well, darling, is this true? We never heard of this…” Morticia smiled, tilting her head slightly as she spoke to Wednesday, who sighed before giving a quick nod.
“Indeed. Y/N and I have been meeting to work on her fighting skills.” The Addams turned slightly to look at you, and you gave a little nod, a small bit of pride working its way into your expression as she continued, “She has been improving, as opposed to when she first approached me.”
“Understatement. I’m doing fantastic. Don’t forget how I almost won last night.” You broke in, shooting her a slightly smug look, just for the fun of teasing her. “It must be my natural talent.” Wednesday gave a roll of her eyes in response, though you could tell it was somewhat lighthearted as she muttered, “I have yet to see you up me in combat.”
“Yeah, yeah, just you wait.” You shrugged, moving back to the plate of food that had been set out for you. The conversation continued, Nani and Gomez having a cheerful discussion over fencing, Wednesday occasionally participating with a nod of agreement here and there.
You took a bite of your food, mostly meats, as usually set out for you, thoughts drifting as the conversation became slightly muddled in your mind, staring off into space as you often did while you ate, focusing on the comforting warmth of your grandma on one side and the cool temperature of Wednesday on the other.
You were broken out of your thoughts when the warmth suddenly disappeared and you looked up, your fork stalling as you saw Nani standing, adjusting her raincoat as she frowned at something on her phone, eyebrows creasing as she glanced from it to you. “Y/N, honey - I have to go.” You felt your heart drop and you shook your head, standing up beside her as you were ushered a ways away from the table, aware of Wednesday’s eyes boring into your back as you did so. You met Nani’s gaze, protesting in confusion as you stuttered, “You just got here, what is it? Did something happen?” “Apparently something’s going on around the edge of town. Galpin found something. I’m not sure what’s happening but I have to be there. I’m sorry, Y/N.” She looked at you with a sympathetic and regretful expression, frowning gently as she sighed, “Just to be safe I need you to stay on Nevermore grounds for a bit, okay? I don’t want you going out there when we’re not sure of all the details. I’ll text you, I promise.” You had your hand gripped onto her raincoat like a needy infant as you followed her through the quad and back into the academy, still protesting, “And you don’t have any more details? You’re just leaving?” You felt a small flare of indignation as you sputtered, tugging on her coat again as she practically dragged you along outside of the academy’s walls and onto the lawn.
“Y/N, trust me when I’ll tell you more as soon as I have more information. All I know is that it’s not safe right now. Nevermore is where you need to stay right now, okay?” Nani turned, pausing in her steps as she turned to face you, placing her hands on your shoulders again as she looked you firmly in the eyes, slightly sympathetic but now more stern as she gave you a gentle squeeze. “Promise me.” “I-I promise…” you mumbled, looking away as you felt disappointment seep back into your tone. “You stay safe too, Nani.” Your grandma nodded, expression softening as she pulled you into a gentle hug, you returning the embrace as you cherished the last of the warm traces of tobacco that clung to her figure. She pressed a soft kiss to your head, humming, “I love you, Y/N. I’ll text you as soon as I can.” Stepping out of the embrace, you watched as Nani strode off, down the main steps and towards where her patrol car was parked, sliding into the driver's seat and bringing the engine to life as she drove down the main driveway, disappearing into the twisted road hidden behind the woods, the sound of tires squealing against wet pavement fading off.
You stood there for a moment, the air now silent, a stark contrast to the busy quad you had stood in just minutes before. The adrenaline wore off quickly, and your heart rate slowed as you slowly moved to sit down on the wet grass, ignoring the dampness already seeping into your uniform, hands moving idly at the tie around your neck.
You didn’t know how long you had been sitting there until you heard a quiet voice speak behind you. “Y/N.”
You didn’t need to turn around to identify who it was. You heaved a soft sigh, still staring out at the long empty road before you as soft gales pulled at your neatly combed hair, returning it to its slightly messy state. Still absentmindedly fiddling with your tie, you mumbled,
“What do you want?”
Her boots were suddenly beside you; she was standing at your side, looking down at you. You didn’t meet her eyes as she spoke, eyebrows furrowing slightly. “I’d like to extend an invitation for you to spend the day with my family.” She paused, looking out over the woods as she added, a little bit quieter. “That is if you wish to, of course. I’m sure Enid’s brothers would be lucky to have you if not.”
You gave another quiet sigh, looking down at the grass for a moment as a soft bit of comfort melted upon you; at least you had someone to spend your day with. Hauling yourself to your feet, you slowly lifted your chin, looking at her at last. Her eyes were dark, freckled nose just slightly scrunched as she met your gaze.
“Thank you.”

Too Sharp to Touch Masterlist

The darkening skies had you on edge as you walked along the sidewalk.
The presence of Wednesday at your side was starting to become surprisingly familiar as she strode beside you, her pale, well manicured fingers gripping the straps of her backpack rather tightly as her deadpan expression remained focused straight ahead. It was starting to become quite comforting.
The two of you were in town for different reasons; Wednesday specifically wanted to visit the hunting store to look over the recent customers to add to her evidence board, and while you of course were devoted to the case the two of you were engaged in, you were in town for an alternate purpose; supplements.
Not that you found anything wrong with your wolf, merely because you preferred not to spend full moons in the lupine cages. Your most recent prescription had unfortunately been completed right before the full moon; about two days away from now. All you had to do was show your prescription to the outcast doctor and be on your way.
“This way.” A slight nudge on your arm tugged you from your thoughts as you glanced over to see Wednesday turning the corner, barely slowing down as she pointed out without even sparing you a glance. “You’re nervous.”
You scurried back to her side, unable to resist a soft roll of your eyes as you mumbled, “it’s a perfectly normal phobia.”
“I’d hardly label the fear of rain as rational.” Wednesday remarked, shooting you a look as her boots clomped along the sidewalk, a rhythm you repeated with your fingers against your side. “Perhaps some therapy would do you good.”
“Oh and where did that get you?” You retort hotly as her glare darkens. “I’d rather not look for psychological help in a town that’s known for murders. I’m already breaking the rules enough being out here.”
“It’s merely a medical trip for you. Consider it that way if you prefer a clean conscience.” Wednesday almost shrugged, pausing abruptly and causing you to stumble, nearly bumping into her in the process. “I’ll meet you back here once I’m done.”
“It’s a pharmacy, not a drop-off center…” you grumbled under your breath as you stepped into the building, the warm heat welcoming you as opposed to the cold outside. You turned and watched as Wednesday walked off in the direction of the hunting store.
Approaching the counter you instantly recognized Dr. Kennedy, the same man who’d started to become familiar with your occasional visits.
“Ah, Y/N. Welcome back.” The man smiled over his glasses with a warm expression, placing his clipboard down as he approached the other side of the counter to meet you. “How’s life at Nevermore treating you? I didn’t think any students would make it to town with the storm on the way.”
You felt yourself pale slightly at the mention of the storm before responding, putting on a smile to match his. Although you were never very particular about doctors, Dr Kennedy did a decent job at making you feel welcomed in a town like Jericho. It only made sense, seeing as his business catered specially to outcasts. It was lucky that Nevermore had a medical supplier so close to the school anyways.
“Nothing out of the ordinary, honestly; it’s a little chilly but nothing I can’t handle.” You paused before pulling your crumpled prescription from your jacket pocket, slipping it onto the counter for him to see. “I was looking for a refill on my supplements.”
Dr Kennedy adjusted his glasses down the bridge of his nose slightly as he took the paper into his palm, rereading the words. Taking a pen in his palm he re-signed it, turning into the back room as he spoke.
“You're quite lucky you got here in time, Y/N. Our shipment of lupine suppressants came unusually late and with a lot less too; apparently the pharmacist up in Vermont had to deal with some sort of robbery at his place.”
He returned a few moments later with the usual brown paper bag, sliding it over the counter to you as he leant on his elbows, continuing.
“I hear pharmacies aren’t doing too well nowadays. Or at least around here, they’re not.”
You frowned slightly as you reached for the bag, double checking as usual that it was the correct bottle. Spotting the ever familiar green label you stuffed it into your pocket.
“There must be some sort of shortage wherever they’re growing or manufacturing these… probably nothing bad.” You shrugged, not taking notice of Dr Kennedy’s skeptical expression. “Thanks for the pills, Doctor. I appreciate it.”
The man nodded softly and smiled warmly; “good luck, Y/N. I assume you’ll see me in a month or two.” With that he disappeared back into the back room.
You stepped out of the building, looking up at the darkened skies; a low rumble of thunder met your glance, making your skin crawl. Yes, Wednesday had specifically instructed you to wait here until she returned, but there was no way in hell you’d be caught in the rain; besides, she wasn’t in charge of you, was she?
There was a brief moment of hesitation but when you felt a light sprinkle on your shoulder you flinched and immediately made a beeline for the hunting store.
The doorbells clanging over the door announced your arrival to everyone inside and you felt yourself grimace in disgust at the sight of all the different rifles and guns mounted upon the wall, distaste lingering in your mouth. Fortunately there weren’t that many customers; the occasional fisherman here and there but otherwise it was surprisingly peaceful for a hunting store.
As you walked through the stand of furred hats you spotted Wednesday at the counter, speaking with the cashier; a man wearing a Bulls baseball cap and a torn leather jacket. You watched as the raven spoke, recognizing the slight look of impatience in her eye you’d become familiar with lately. Clearly the man’s attitude wasn’t one she was happy with.
“-listen, Miss, I’d love to help you, I really would, but the data we track from our customers is private. We don’t just give it out to anyone, y’know.”
You watched as Wednesday’s grip tightened slightly on her backpack straps as she spoke through slightly gritted teeth.
“My motives are in the pursuit of the school's safety; you’re willing to risk that in order to protect a store policy?”
“Just because Jericho and Nevermore are on decent terms doesn’t mean we’re responsible for each other.” The man frowned slightly as if in slight distaste as he met Wednesday’s glare. “And all that shit that went down last year with the Hyde is over. I highly doubt the safety of the school is at risk.”
“Then explain where the deputies are right now.”
Wednesday folded her arms, her gaze darkening as the man sighed.
“I don’t know everything that goes on in this town, kid. It’s probably just another bear attack up north.”
“How ironic,” you caught Wednesday mutter under her breath as he continued.
“You’re just a high schooler. Even if Nevermore is in danger like you said, I’m not giving just any goth who walks into my store important information. So unless you’re planning on buying something you can leave.”
You weren’t surprised when Wednesday slid a knife across the counter without a moment’s hesitation; the blade was short and straight with a nicked top that looked quite sharp; the handle was a deep black, with silver hints down the sides, making for a tasteful choice of knife. Of course she had good taste in knives.
“I can make it worth your while.”
The raven held up a small stack of bills she had retrieved from her backpack, raising an eyebrow at the employee. He eyed the money for a moment, his eyes narrowing before folding his arms and scoffing.
“I don’t do bribes, kid. Just buy the knife and get out of here.”
Jaw clenched, Wednesday thumbed a bill from the stack and handed it over, placing the rest in her backpack as she took the knife and slid it into her jacket pocket, not bothering to say goodbye as she headed out.
“You’re dreadful at hiding.” Her voice startled you as she paused in front of you, an eyebrow raised. “You’d think a wolf would have a better sense at subtelty.”
“You’d be surprised.” You gave a soft grin of your own as you folded your arms, glancing at the man who was now watching the two of you with a distasteful expression, eyes narrowed as he examined you closely. “Let’s get out of here.”
The two of you were at the door when you were stopped by a hand on your shoulder and you froze, eyes narrowing as you slowly turned on your heel.
“I recognize you.”
“Don’t touch her.” Wednesday shouldered you aside somewhat roughly, but you didn’t mind, you were too busy glaring at the man as you retorted
“Leave us alone. You said you wanted us gone, didn’t you?”
“Yeah, whatever.” He waved dismissively, removing his hand at the sight of Wednesday’s death stare. “But you’re that Lyall kid, right? The one from Vermont?”
“What’s it to you?” You frowned, suddenly hyper aware of Wednesday’s cold hand on your wrist.
“I’d be willing to give that intel your girl was looking for in exchange for some information. I mean, you’re famous after all, aren't you?”
“She’s not my- my-“ you stuttered dumbly as you felt yourself blush slightly, Wednesday’s eyes on you as you fought for words. “I’m not famous, you’ve got the wrong person.”
The guy frowned slightly, examining you for a moment until eventually muttering something under his breath, “not worth it”. Turning on his heel he started to head back to the counter, but Wednesday stepped forward quickly, gripping his jacket tightly in one hand as the other bore the knife she’d just purchased, pointed at his neck.
“If you want to keep your head attached to your body I’d suggest staying away from us.”
Your eyes widened slightly as the man’s eyes widened in shock and slight fear as he gave what little of a nod he could until the raven stepped back, folding the knife in disgust and putting it away as she turned back to you.
“Let’s go.”
-
By the time you and Wednesday had returned to Nevermore a good rain was already falling, the rumbles of thunder now more pronounced through the school’s walls. If not for the umbrella Wednesday had brought just in case you would’ve been soaked.
“That was a waste of time,” you grumbled as you followed her into the dorm the Addams shared with Enid. “Other than my suppressants we got nothing.”
“Not necessarily.” Wednesday pulled her jacket aside, hanging it over the side of her bed as she faced the recently set up investigation board by the window. Thing scuttled out from her bag, perching himself atop the board; in his fingers he held a pair of keys.
A wild grin burst upon your face as you held out your hand and Thing tossed you the keys, speaking with excitement “how the hell did you get these without being seen?”
“Simple diversion. I would’ve thought you’d learned a bit more after all this time.” Wednesday gave a little roll of her eyes as she examined the board; there wasn’t much on it; a map of the woods, a diagram of a shotgun, and a couple receipts. “Tonight would be more than a sufficient time to break in.”
You started to respond with a grin until a crackle of thunder split through the dorm, sending a chill down your spine, fingers tightly gripping the edges of your jacket. Wednesday clearly noticed, as something akin to a frown flashed across her face.
“I still don’t understand how you can fear such a beautifully gloomy sound. Just because it is meant to instill fear does not mean you have to be afraid.” The Addams paced across the room, until she was facing you directly, her dark stare flitting over your shaking form. God you hated the fact that you were shaking. “What will it take for me to get your pitiful shaking to stop?”
You fought for words, at a loss for what to say. You’d never been asked that before. You didn’t notice the way Wednesday’s gaze softened just ever so softly; the way her furrowed eyebrows lifted slightly and her chocolate-toned eyes met you.
You had no clue what she was thinking.
For Wednesday she was left utterly confused at the muddled mess of disgusting feelings sitting in her stomach like a pile of rot. The Addams had no clue how to handle them, especially since she had such a lack of experience with… emotion. You must have cursed her… at this point she was positive that you were the one making her cup your chin, your skin ever so warm on her cool hand as she lifted your head so that you met her gaze. Her usually confident and sure footed mind was left scrambling to remember all do Enid’s advice on comfort.
“If it will get you to stop quaking like a frightened puppy I will allow you to reside on my bed.” Wednesday paused, before her eyebrows furrowed. “Don’t stain anything or I will kick you out.”
The way your eyes faintly brightened made her heart twist; oh god, you weakened her. She most certainly despised you. Another boom of thunder seemed to end any hesitation you might’ve had as the raven watched you scramble for her bed.
Glancing over at the investigation board she spotted Thing, cutting off his tapping as she gritted her teeth - “not. A. Word.”
A quick look back over at the bed confirmed your still shaking form. You were just sitting there, stiff and awkward on the edge of the mattress. Wednesday couldn’t help rolling her eyes as she strode towards her cello case, kneeling down as she muttered, “one could easily think you were a corpse.”
“I’m getting comfortable.” You defended hotly, clearly a little embarrassed. She decided not to mention it, merely pulling her beloved instrument from its casing; settling herself atop her chair she pulled the cello in front of her carefully, tuning it.
“You’re going to play for me?”
Wednesday halted, her fingers freezing momentarily over the knobs as she slowly looked over at you, her eyebrows furrowing. “Of course not. Your phobia of the rain just happened to interfere with my playing time.” She turned back to the pegbox, giving one of the pegs the slightest of adjustments before picking up her bow. She didn’t need sheet music to play the song she desired.
Her bow pulled across the strings as her fingers maneuvered the fingerboard. The haunting melody of “Cello Sonata in D Minor, Op.40” began to fill the room, a deep sense of satisfaction stirring within her as the piece unfolded.

Halfway through the song she noticed you’d fallen asleep, draped in a slightly uncomfortable position over the foot of her bed. Sighing, she reluctantly put down the instrument, standing to step over to the bed.
You didn’t even rouse when she draped a blanket over you.
She was unconscious of the fact that she played her cello just ever so slightly softer when she returned.
