New Chapter Posted! Travel Buddies
WOOOOOOO *screaming in delight* It's been a crazy year and then some. I'm pleased to announce that after months and months and months of writer's block, I have finally posted a new chapter to continue my Mandalorian fanfic on Ao3.
Chapter one, for those who are new to the story:
He's my favorite little guy from the funny space franchise

But they sure as hell can read body language.
wait considering tuskens have a non-human appearance and always keep their faces covered? i bet they can't read human facial expressions in the slightest
BOBF
I absolutely loved this first episode, we got Boba shirtless in the bacta tank (I am an absolute simp), some look back on his past. The sarlacc part was almost exactly what I imagined the inside of a sarlacc would look like so great props for that. The singular second of Kamino content was wonderful. The friendship between Fennec and Boba is already great, and im glad that he’s being shown to be a humble leader. It is also very interesting that they are showing that Boba isn’t in nearly as good of a condition as he was in the original trilogy and is still suffering from effects of the sarlacc and living in the desert for years.
I am a sucker for twi’lek content and all the twi’leks made me very happy. The green male twi’lek in the cantina was incredibly interesting, as he had ear cones under his head wrapping, so he is either a trans man, or the ear cones are fake and are being worn to appear more feminine. Either way this is really interesting and a fun detail as decorative ear cones for men were referenced in a star wars book at some point.
The child tusken made me unreasonably happy, I like that child, it is out there living its best life. Seeing Boba at the first step of being welcomed into the tribe for saving the child is very fun and I hope that its expanded on as the show continues.
I am very glad that the idea of having concept art during the credits was kept from The Mandalorian. Its always interesting to see how ideas changed and evolved. However, I cannot forgive Disney for not giving us shirtless Boba during his time with the raiders. Overall, I am extremely excited to watch this show and I am already awaiting the next episode.
I don't want to write a full fledged essay about this because that's a lot of work and I have an actual essay for school that I'm procrastinating on but I really need to ramble about all of the similarities between the Tuskens and the Mandalorians and how they're used in this episode.
The Tuskens wear mask and rarely ever unmask themselves—and never in front of outsiders. The Mandalorians, or this specific sect of them, similarly wear masks and never remove them.
Mandalorian armor is an inherent part of a Mandalorian's identity and considered sacred to the culture. Cobb is wearing armor that he has no right to wear and Din seeks to take it as it belongs with the Mandalorian.
Tuskens believe all water is sacred and promised to them. The settlers steal their water in their minds and why they often raid moisture farms.
Cobb wears Mandalorian armor but he has no respect for it as portrayed in the episode and no understanding of the culture. He offers Din a drink and sits down and removes his helmet, effectively telling the audience that he isn't a Mandalorian and he blatantly says it as much later. I think the most important aspect of this scene is the way he offered Din a drink and removed his own helmet. To him its a polite offer, but in order to accept the drink Din would have to remove his own helmet which disrespects his culture. So, the story is telling us that Cobb is wearing sacred armor that he has no right to wear and he doesn't even understand the culture it belongs to.
I feel like a scene with the sand people parallels this moment later on when Cobb shows disgust towards being offered a drink by the Tuskens. He consumes, steals, their sacred water and then when it's offered by them he refuses to even drink it.
Part of me thinks I'm reading too much into this, but like ... the parallels between the Tuskens and the Mandalorians are there, right? And I think this episode definitely mades some commentary on cultural appropriation even if it wasn’t a major theme or anything.
Reasons why Cad Bane killed the Tusken:
No 1: In Star Wars nearly everything has a meaning so when Fennec says:

than she has a reason to.
No 2: Cad Bane is chill'n on tatooine longer than we might thought. Bc how does he know about Cobb Vanth and the armor?

No 3: Now we are looking at the facts. Let's take a closer look and compare Boba's with Bane's speech:

Seems like someone really presented these terms. The Pykes told the Syndicate that the Tusken demand a toll. Now connect the dots:
Boba -> part of the Tusken tribe -> Tusken stopped spice smuggling -> Cad Bane -> Working for the Syndicate -> hears that Tusken cause trouble with stopping business -> Cad Bane killing the Tusken -> The spice keeps running.
Thanks for hearing me out bye! :D

I head canon that this lovely bean is Bariss Offee.
Reasons:
1) Their outfit resembles Bariss’s clothes and Luminara’s with the bead panel in the front.
2) They take Boba under their wing and teach him the way of the weapon. Totally remembers the clones and internally goes “vod’ika!”
3) As a newer Tusken would probably teach the even newer person
4) Tuskens adopt others into their group that they like and are left behind. There have been Tusken Jedi in the past.
5) Bariss would definitely escape to a backwater planet and join a nomadic warrior tribe who stays out of intergalactic affairs and only help/fight people who deserve it.
I'm going to be making a prop weapon for my mandalorian cosplay. Should I make the amban phase-pulse rifle or the tusken cycler rifle? I've always liked the design of the Amban phase-pulse rifle but the Tusken cycler rifle would be much easier and probably look better in the end due to it having less intricate details.
