The bug squad!

Genuinely I was excited to work on these and share them publicly- these are some of my top favorite bug guys out there. (There may be a theme of points and pincers)

I know very few people will ever see them, but I'm still happy to have made them.

A picture with lines in pencil and color in digital, presenting general view and a detailed take on a Chicala plant (scientific name Tecoma Stans). The first showing the long, trumpet like, yellow flowers with five petals, and the closed ones. The second, showing a zoom to one of the flowers, from outside; the other, from inside, with a long pistil and short stamens.
A picture drawn in pencil, painted digitally, presenting 4 species of bees; a honey bee (apis melifera), a black honey bee (the german variation), a bee with long antennas (tygather) and a bumblebee (bombus).

Something I did last year for my bee biology class! Here is some stuff in spanish about the Tecoma Stans (commonly known as Chicala) which is a native Colombian plant I studied for some weeks to look at their polinators and insects around! (such as honey bees, which are not native; and some bumblebees like thygater aethiops and bombus hortulanus, both native. I also saw spiders, beetles and flies, but they are photos rather than illustrations) :D

Not gonna lie, I would love to participate in projects to make scientific illustrations someday!

got my hands on a field guide of californian bugs and i found that there's this one bee species in southern california that looks like this

[id: a drawing of xylocopa varpuncta, aka the valley carpenter bee. the drawing portrays a female and male of the species respectively

the female is pitch black, she has huge eyes and sketchily drawn antennae on her head. she has blue-purple lighting on the side of her face to bring out the details. Under her is white text surrounded by a black box that reads, "FEMALE".

The male is drawn in a far more simplified and cartoonish way. He is yellow and has a lighter sand color "mane" around his neck. he has huge, green eyes with beady pupils. he has rounded antennae. below him is text that reads, "male". end id]

(Actual bugs under the cut, CW for insects)
