Whatever they're getting the chicken treatment now. I might spread the legs out a little far to not be directly under them like how most birds do but i gotta figure out how that will translate into their humanoid look. The thigh gap might be crazy
Anywho heres a slight update. It's still in the works BUT the mandibles actually look like mandibles!! Yayya! I used trap jaw ants for reference cause they do what their name says, they have a lock mechanism!

At last, the arthroids don't look as stupid. I also might rename them to Parvae. I also made them look kind of cute so ima fix that. They don't get that.
Fun fact: these are the two extremes of the spectrum! Lots of Parvae are some variation between these two extremes, as many are also hermaphrodites or are actively transitioning from one sex to the other. How does that work? Don't ask me that. I'd like to imagine the sometimes random transitioning is the bane of their breeders' existence.
Any critique from more knowledgeable spec bio artists is also appreciated!
I have wanted to see a tiger beetle larva my entire life, but never did until @revretch suddenly spotted one scurrying around by the river yesterday. They normally spend all their time hiding in a tunnel like a trap door spider, so I never thought I'd see one out and about in broad daylight! I recognized the big, flat head and the little hump on its back instantly!
Just noticed this diagram has it hunting a velvet ant....can they really do that? Are they THAT tough???
I also wasn't sure they could be raised easily, because I heard they're particular about the density and moisture level of the sand they tunnel into. What if it was running around because the sand wasn't quite right in that spot?! I scooped some up anyway, and I used a twig to poke holes in it, just to see if MAYBE it'd deem one a suitable house. The next morning I found it like you see in the following video, and I wondered if it felt comfortable enough to eat the way it does in the wild, so in the clip I also drop a pantry moth caterpillar into the jar:

New ideas for the Headsplitters incoming! I was thinking there would sort of be different breeds with different abilities occupying Earth. I have no idea what I'm doing but it's a lot of fun!
In the meantime I realized I never showed the (outdated but still useful) lore here so here's the full guide!
The only thing that's outdated here so far is the art and the fact the nonhuman headsplitters are called Arthroids (they're Parvae now) , so you can read it and be up to date! They are an extremely adaptable and diverse race for the purpose of people making their own ocs with them!

wanna smear the moth guts from all the moths i mercilessly crush over your lips, over your nude body-- and tell you next i am going to destroy you, as well. eviscerate you into a mass of crushed internals and externals and break you into nothing. catch a live one and make you swallow it alive. god that last one. hhh. need you to open up your throat and try not to kill it before its in your esophagus. can you feel its teeny little wings tickling your throat? is it disgusting, or scary, or do you just feel horrible that you're swallowing a live creature? its desperate to get out. swallow again. good pet.

I 3d modeled a jackal skull based on like 50 different reference images then hollowed it out and printed it. The topology really is abysmal but idrc i like how it turned out :3
Then i added some tape since its lighter in weight than clay and i didnt have any to begin with. This acts as the base for the cotton later on and holds the whole thing together
Skip a few steps and done!
When I was a little girl, I found a large family of sawfly larva (some species of which are very cute!) Mine looked more or less like this guy:
Their little heads had hard chitin, and reminded me of Chex Mix mini breadsticks. Delighted, I put them into a little cardboard box with some leaves and brought them home, hoping they could grow into butterflies (didn't know what they were at the time.) When I took them home, my mom was unimpressed, and my father told me they were Spongy Moth caterpillars. He promptly took them outside and killed them.
For reference, Spongy Moth caterpillars look like THIS:
The hard-looking head fits I GUESS, but everything else is completely different, especially from afar.
And so there's my villain origin story. My genetically-engineered Super Sawflies will be battle ready by the end of the month, and I will be sending them to Brett Kavanaugh's house.
Ultimately this has nothing to do whatsoever with this bracket, but I have a fun cool extra series of polls I want to exploit my tournament blog clout to get votes on while we wait for the final results of the qualifying polls to be determined

Self Ecosystem
There's rot inside of me, my self contained system.
Green pus and mold, caked and flaked
Black tissue and yellow sinew, old joints and dust for bones.
My face is twisted beyond my comprehension, a stranger in my reflection.
The lake is dark and brackish, an endless black expanse with no bubbles to mar the surface.
Skin ripped to shreds and fed to the beasts below.
Birds and bats and bugs crawl and screech and writhe, pour out the sockets
The birds peck at glassy eyes and the bats scream in my voice
Bugs feast on the flesh.
Red and blood, rend the tissue.
Fire burns and blisters, boils and chars
A blackened husk left in the wake of the rain, cool and crips waters in rivulets of clear to blue
Black fades to grey and brown, cracked and dry mud and clay of my being.
My face is calm and still, the features worn and faded.
The lake is brown and low, reedy and muddy where it burns against the shore.
Birds and bats retreat to their nests, a great mass taking flight away from me
The bugs burrow in the dirt to sleep.
I am baptized by the fire, scorched in the blaze
I am reborn in the water, healed by the rain.
Green grows in flowers and moss, forget me nots for eyes.
The bird feathers grow, brown mottled down for feathers of all colors and sweet song
The bats hang from the branches of trees I have grown, fur so soft and light
Butterflies and spiders, dragonflies and salamanders among the flowers
Flowers burst from the ground, clay to fertile soil, birds of paradise and heliotrope.
The lake is blue and clear, fish ripple the surface while alligators lounge on the shore, shrimp and oysters in the reeds.
Cattails whistle with the wind, the flowers turn to the sun
The green of my face growing true, the sun in my leaves and branches
I nurture this system,
This ecosystem of me.

They do have lore because I physically cannot stop myself from making backstories, you can say they’re kind of like a fresh(parasite) type but more evolved
How they interact with the multiverse ? They just wander they’re not apart of any side (ex: stars or nightmares gang)
