Fyodor/Sigma (spoilers for ch.107) [Read on AO3]
For a while I’ve been wanting to write a fic of Sigma confronting Fyodor that parallels the scene in Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment where Raskolnikov confesses to Sonia that he committed murder. Naturally, I read chapter 107 and immediately went “This is it!” When I managed to pick myself off the floor, anyway.
Parts of the dialogue here (as well as, to some extent, the character reactions) are taken directly from that scene in C&P, but also Dostoevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov. :3
The gun shook in his hand. It was warm, a low, unpleasant heat; it burned his skin. Acrid smoke rose from the barrel. His ears still rang from the shot he had taken.
Fyodor looked at him, calm, serene even. He looked small, sitting there on the floor hunched in on himself, small and powerless. A dangerous illusion. The left shoulder of the stark white prison uniform was soaked through with blood, but Fyodor did not seem to feel the pain. Or perhaps he was simply so used to pain that it meant little to him, and he was aware of no more than a dull sting and that his left arm now hung useless at his side.
Suddenly the weight of the gun was too much. It dropped to the floor and clattered at Sigma’s feet. A tiny, agonized cry escaped him.
Fyodor had told him everything.

I used S4Studio to rename all the worlds, and I've decorated all the neighbourhoods with T.O.O.L. As I said before, Silent Pines is completely base-game friendly, absolutely no packs or kits are used. There is some custom CC, mainly posters that add to the story. The CC is one package file and adds nothing other than some customisation to the story. It is not required.
For example the missing poster of Cleo Emerson, a girl who disappeared under mysterious circumstances;

Silent Pines is heavily inspired by Life is Strange, the Windbrook save file, florwalsims' Portsim save file, as well as the hazy nostalgia of the late 90s and early 2000s. I hope to see you all soon for V.2!

NO ONE knows how to use thou/thee/thy/thine and i need to see that change if ur going to keep making “talking like a medieval peasant” jokes. /lh
They play the same roles as I/me/my/mine. In modern english, we use “you” for both the subject and the direct object/object of preposition/etc, so it’s difficult to compare “thou” to “you”.
So the trick is this: if you are trying to turn something Olde, first turn every “you” into first-person and then replace it like so:
“I” → “thou”
“Me” → “thee”
“My” → “thy”
“Mine” → “thine”
Let’s suppose we had the sentences “You have a cow. He gave it to you. It is your cow. The cow is yours”.
We could first imagine it in the first person-
“I have a cow. He gave it to me. It is my cow. The cow is mine”.
And then replace it-
“Thou hast a cow. He gave it to thee. It is thy cow. The cow is thine.”

When it comes to Hwi and Hui-Jae, I can’t help but feel that he just didn’t want her enough like that to start a life with her. She asked him to. Several times. But Hwi always prioritized his revenge, his sister, his army buddies and his dealings and feelings for his soulmate-nemesis over her.
He could have walked straight to her when he came back from Liaodong, but instead he just let her think he was dead. For four years! And that could have turned into forever if she hadn’t accidentally run into him.
Then he told her he was busy with things, but that she could wait.
However, after he stopped being busy, he skipped town. For six years!
Then he returned, being busy again, and told her again that she could wait.
After he achieved his goals and stopped being busy, he was mostly seen with his old army buddies on his free time. Sometimes feeling blue because his soulmate-nemesis skipped town after he hurt him so badly. This went on for almost two years! During this time one of his old army buddies, who had been as busy as him, had time to court and marry one of Hui-Jae’s friends.
And eventually he became busy again with what Bang-won needing his help and his soulmate-nemesis reappearing and Hwi trying to charm him back.
So, I don’t know, I think he loved her, but maybe more like a friend after the initial crush faded. I want to think that he just never had the heart to tell it to her face rather than leading her on on purpose. She was also his one chance to start a traditional family if he should feel like it one day. It can be hard to close that kind of door permanently. Especially when things at that time were more on the nemesis than soulmate side with Seon-ho.
(To me My Country: The New Age is ultimately a love story between Hwi and Seon-ho. (With some delicious flirting from a prince, softness from a faithful sword wielder and bisexual confusion sprinkled in.) I’ve also given up and started skipping all Hwi & Hui-Jae emotional scenes, because I don’t feel like the chemistry is there and those scenes disrupt the pacing of the main plot. And I just grew tired of seeing those passive tears.)
