Ok but VFD confirmed?
sometimes i think about that one Los Angeles fire captain that turned out to be an incredibly prolific serial arsonist with one of the things that ended up giving him away being that he wrote a novel about a firefighter that becomes an arsonist and used the pen-name “Aaron Stiles” which turns out to be an anagram for “I set LA arson”
I hate to think that I have anything in common with Count Olaf, but the aesthetic obsession with Eye Imagery is right there.
Hey! What did you do that for? 😭😭😭😭😭😭

ellington feint.
over time, the words ellington feint become far much more than the name of a little girl from a tiny town. ellington feint becomes a prayer whispered by convicts as they await trial. ellington feint is a symbol of the wronged and the lonely, half myth and half girl. she is a story that parents tell to children in stain’d-by-the-sea, a cautionary tale. ellington feint escaped the town, but her name is stained upon its people and streets.
4, 13, and 39 for the fictional asks, please!
4. If you could have any two fictional characters be your parents, who would they be?
Roger and Anita from 101 Dalmatians, if only for the nice house and all the dogs.
13. What fictional character would you be best friends with?
I feel like I’d get along very well with Moxie.
39. If you were loved and adopted into any villain group but had to betray them, what group would it be? The Inhumane Society. It would be fun while it lasted.
9, 10, 16, 17 for the ASOUE asks, please!!
9. Be infected with medusoid mycelium or get your leg eaten by a shark
Be infected with Medusoid Mycelium. If there was horseradish I could get away completely uninjured.
10. Eat a bowl of vampire bats or spend an hour with Carmelita Spats
Not be pescatarian anymore and risk covid or hang out with one of my favourite ASOUE characters? I wonder…. 🙄
16. Write a 13 books series about your dead ex’s children or write a boring book about the littlest elf
I’m hoping to have a long and committed relationship and not have any exes ever, let alone dead ones, so regrettably I’d choose the latter.
17. Have your children taken by VFD or recruit them yourself
Recruit them myself, that implies I’m a volunteer in this situation instead of just an oblivious civilian, which would be no fun at all.
you’re the only one I trust with this question did the Baudelaires ever find out the name of dvs bc for the life of me I can’t find the moment but my friends say they did
They found out its probable meaning from Quigley but never knew for sure.
Finally starting Woevember!!
My Baudelaire Fire theory:
Following Esmé’s marriage to Jerome, the Baudelaire parents considered calling a temporary truce with the other side of the schism. They invited her over to negotiate (this was why they sent their children away). They were sitting round the table drinking brandy, and Esmé, being a firestarter, didn’t use a coaster. Little did they know that she had placed some sort of device outside intended to set the building on fire, which didn’t work due to the weather. She got angry, which made the Baudelaire parents suspicious. Esmé excused herself, left the room, and set fire to the building from the inside. She then left via the secret passageway. The Baudelaire parents, smelling smoke, go to investigate, but only Beatrice manages to get out before the passageway is blocked (somebody later removes whatever fell on it). Beatrice hides in the fountain. Lemony does not actually believe that she is dead, but pretends she is in order to protect her. VFD faking her death is the reason Lemony is ‘forbidden to speak to her’ like he mentions in TAA.
Everyone, my anti-VFD phase is over. I was influenced a lot by mainstream opinions in the fandom and denied how I truly felt. I am now a fully fledged VFD enthusiast and aspiring volunteer.
oh the urge to be part of a hedonistic slightly deranged secret society
There’s this restaurant in Las Vegas and I’m 90% sure it’s just a front for VFD

Kit found her mother at the one of the windows in the Snicket mansion.
“It’s going to start very soon."
"What’s going to start?” Five year old Kit asked, confused.
“The taking."

When they were in VFD training together, Beatrice was always the one sent to talk to Lemony when he caused trouble.
Thoughts my dad had while we were talking about Lemony Snicket's unreliable narration
Because I've fallen back into the Snicketverse obsession.
By creating a cast of such colourful characters, Lemony diverts attention away from himself.
He couldn’t possibly be a character we should be paying attention to or worrying about. He’s merely the author of the tale. A cowardly man who would weep if any of the book’s events ever happened to him. Supposedly.
The assumed truthfulness of ATWQ is likely caused by it having been written so soon after the events.
This might've felt obvious to others, idk.
Although ATWQ Lemony still keeps many secrets, he’s relatively open compared to the Lemony of ASOUE. This is likely because the books are, at their core, reports sent to V.F.D. regarding his apprenticeship. He doesn’t shy from writing his thoughts and uncertainties, or the events that take place, because he has not yet developed his duplicitous nature. My dad also suggested that the development of that nature may have been caused by the events of ATWQ.
Given that the series exists as a children’s series in the canon, things may have been altered to suit that purpose.
Like the over-the-top personalities of the side characters and guardians. Then again, so many things within the canon are over-the-top or absurd, they may actually be like that.
Lemony must be fabricating most, if not all, of the conversations
After all, how could he know any of them? I doubt even his informants and resources could tell him the contents of conversations.
In the Netflix show, it’s possible Lemony Snicket is not how he appears.
I’ve recently thought Snicket’s representation in Netflix’s ASOUE is too put-together to really feel like him, but my dad suggested that perhaps he only appears as Snicket wants to appear. That, as he chose what to write in ASOUE, he has chosen to appear put-together in the series.
Does V.F.D. even exist?
I don’t think this one really holds water, given that correspondence does exist between Lemony and other members of V.F.D. and I think some allude to the organization and many use codes we know they use. But it’s interesting nonetheless, that he has perhaps fabricated the organization (or merely fabricated their original noble purpose) to explain events.

My Esme playlist that I frequently update on spotify because I honestly will never get over her:

I’m sorry I did not mean to disrespect a member of the VFD (Various Fallen Defenders) I was just saying that he was a simp, never stated that Beatrice was mediocre. Anyways hope that you have a great day.
Y’all always talking about simps, and how they don’t do much, but like… Lemony made a whole series about some womens kids because he simped so hard for her
(This picture inspired me, although my idea has very little in common with it. In an AU where Moxie is psychic, and, since Moxie and Lemony being cousins is an idea I like, is the cousin of the Snicket siblings (with Moxie being F. Snicket's daughter), Lemony and Moxie accidentally forged a psychic connection by being excellent associates to one another.)
When Lemony was alive, he and Moxie looked very similar to one another, except for Moxie's silvery-blonde hair. Also, they share a birthdate, and thus, a birthday. That birthday is February 29.
Moxie is impossible to photograph well, similar to her prime associate.
When someone a psychic forges a connection to dies, their hair turns the color that their connection-mate's was in life. So Moxie now has dark hair.
Moxie's legal name is Moxie Absinthe Mallahan-Snicket, although she rarely uses her full name.
After Lemony died Moxie's hat got ruined. He told her that she should use his hat, "since he would never have reason to use it again." Giving someone still living an item that belonged to you in life is how you tether yourself to them, which L. did not know, as he was a newborn ghost then.
Someone who is a tether does not age past the point at which they become tethered. So Moxie is forever 13.
Moxie decided to cut her hair shorter after the funeral, as a sign that her life was forever changed, though the change in color was enough proof of that. She definitely inherited the Snicket Drama Gene.
Lemony accidentally possessed Moxie once. She told him that he could possess her whenever she was not working on an article as long as he made sure that her younger sister was safe.
Moxie's younger sister was named Adrianna-Clarissa Alizarin Mallahan-Snicket, in defiance of the Mallahan family naming traditions. She normally goes by A.C. or Rian, because her first name is too fancy for casual use and much too long for emergencies. Rian is a full decade younger than her sister, but looks older, not being frozen at 13.
F. Snicket's name is Fiona. She did not change it when she married Mr. Mischance Mallahan (who was nicknamed Chance). First names that start with the letter 'M' are traditional for the Mallahans.
The Mallahans were once a large extended family, but in the time from Moxie's birth until the time of this story they have dwindled to Moxie and Mr. Mallahan and A.C. because everyone else met their demise in various arsons and chose to move on to the afterlife.
Due to Moxie and Lemony's tendency to switch out who is in charge of the body as they please, even people who are in the know tend to be ambivalent as to whether Lemony is an actual ghost or merely a split personality strongly based off of someone who M. knew. Anyone who knew him knows that Lemony is a real ghost, though, as he completely lacks the monotone that Moxie always speaks in.
Moxie and Jacques do not talk about their journalistic opinions of each other, as there is emotional bleed-over between M. and L. Aside from that, Moxie genuinely respects J. for doing his best as an older brother, being an older sister under extreme circumstances for her own part. J. disapproves of Moxie's tendency to risk her well-being for the truth but cannot say anything about it to her without being called out as a hypocrite.
Moxie joined VFD after dealing with Hangfire. She does not regret killing a man who killed her best friend prime associate slash cousin.
Kit Snicket is deeply freaked out by this whole situation, but is doing her best to hide it. She spent her family time watching A.C. and teaching her things that her teachers will not appreciate but that a young child can not harm themselves with instead, until A.C became old enough for proper training.
Moxie always signs her correspondence with a part of her name or an alias derived from it, while Lemony does the same with his name, to avoid confusion.
Moxie swore off color in her (personal, non-disguise) wardrobe after her father died on her 13th birthday. The hat is an exception.
Moxie can do astral projection. She used to use it to force her body to take a nap, thus short-circuiting her chronic insomnia.
Author's Note: I have edited a few things, and added others. "Michael" was only a placeholder until I could find Mr. Mallahan's legal name. There is a fun story about supernatural children with magical colored fire that you could read for more information regarding tethers, why ghosts need them to stay sane, and the consequences of being one at https://archiveofourown.org/works/9878324?view_full_work=true, the mechanics of how bodies work for ghosts are different, though, as real ghosts are naturally non-corporeal.
With all due respect,
Adrianne Derr.
(Miss Derr is a Snicket-verse OC of mine, who I will write more about later. Most of my ATWQ and ASOUE posts will be primarily from her perspective.)

i think one of the hardest things the baudelaires have to learn is that vfd doesn’t exist
no, seriously. all through the middle books we get this impression of vfd as this shadowy organisation behind everything, who could potentially bring some kind of structure and order to the kids’ lives, but this organisation isn’t really real. it’s just people, a handful of individuals making decisions for good or for ill or usually for both, using their membership with vfd as excuses for what they do, but ultimately they’re all acting on their own. they don’t represent structure, they’re just a cluster of individuals
I read A Series of Unfortunate Events as a kid and it permanently rewired my speech pattern. It’s been an indeterminate number of years and I still sound like I’m interested in recruiting you for a Very Focused Division.
