A drawing for the concept of semi-canon "sci-fi" unima guy.
They would fit into my other story word which is sci-fi. A bit messy but its just a drawing right now.
And what they might do at work (a nude art of a fancy uniima??). Thinking of making them the "author" of most of my art of this world. Which would make them something like a documenter? (and I guess the first pic would be a self portrait).
I was always more of a sci-fi guy and fantasy as fantasy is a bit new to me. And this seems fun.
Might just make they something of a persona but thats not 100% yet. Need a better design for that, this was just a doodle (one way or another will be buff).
-THEY ARE SO OUTDATED, NEED TO REDRAW-
Neal's family
Using thicker lines makes drawing much faster but the lack of detail is killing me-
Baby Neal and his moms. Both Greth and Manice worked on a ship and have been in many fights together among other things. On one of their voyage they found Neal in a terrible state in terrible hands. At the time it would be very rare to find Uniima C in an elven city and so they adopted him, not even knowing what to feed him.
Unfortunatelly, they don't get to raise him for very long.
Greth was a short eared elv skilled with a sword and navigation, Manice is a long eared elv, a good strategist and talker. Greth is long gone (due to her curse) when Neal becomes a proffesor and Manice is old and sick (but if I give Neal a story she will likely have succumbed to the sickness at the point).
Do uniima eat soup without their hands? Since it looks like the fellow in the picture is holding both the soup bowl and the spoon with their beak and mouth only. How does that work?
Here's a guide to proper eating
Uniima rarely use their front limbs for manipulation. In some activities it's more acceptable but they are generaly seen as dirty. It's not as bad as using your human feet but for eating it's unacceptable.
Correct way to eat is to use your lower jaw and lower tongue to hold the plate/bowl and your upper tongue to move the food from the plate with "spoon" or directly with tongue. Few tools exist with some being more used in different cultures.
Sometimes you gotta start posting and creating and an audience will come later, it can be hard at first, but don't give up!
Meanwhile, I gotta say I'm obsessed with your creatures, please tell me more about the story! Is it set in a different world, in the future/past, a different dimension?
Yea, thank you. Can't count my worth on reactions. Brrrrrrr
This is a really good question and it's horrible I never actually explained this. It should probably be a pinned post.
In a simple way - the world and story is based on classical fantasy but with the "logicalize" effect. There are dragons, wizards, gods, different races (most races taking places of classical fantasy races). You should recognize most of the concepts but they should feel well uuh- different. For one, (almost) every race is from a different taxonomical kingdom/phylum. The main story I have in mind would be of a guy visiting different regions, showing more of the world and dealing with some personal stuff. However I wont go into more story detail for now.
The world a complicated way - Well the world is a planet not related to Earth in any way and unlikely in the same universe as it has magic/unexplained phenomena.
It's thought that the planet started off like Earth - land and ocean creation. The difference being the appearance of Designers. Those would root on different spots of the planet and start affecting their portion of land, locking it from other designers. This created multiple locked ecosystems with extreme unsular biogeography.
The designers are thought to be organisms that would fight for territory and dominance like animals but since they are motionless they use their ability to control space and time, making the planet their body and universe their habitat. Their behavior being instinctive, not thought formed. (they are also the source of magic)
Some evidence also suggests that with the inteligence of the designer's controlled species the designer's abilities/awareness would grow, making it evolve with the ecosystem. Many historical events support the hypothesis.
This is likely the reason why all the designers were reaching or reached sentience in their respective regions.
Image only shows sentient species of two designers
Before the current time (current time being a difficult combination of medieval times and quick rise in technology and science) the regions got "open" and actual designer war began. However, to the people this was just the usual taking over countries, growing kingdoms and such (except the enemies were often "aliens"). It was a multithousand year process of course.
It got complicated and in the last few thousand years two designers are dead and now people experience big culture mixing, less wars (obviously those still happen), more progress, trading, science and mutual hate for designers.
It's not even 10 years since the biggest elven kingdom began with free public education, big deal.
A Uniima c engineer made a metal plane (it flies shorter than 50 meters and max 3 meters from the ground).
And magic awakening was greatly improved by sterilizing the needles!
(Magical abilities are an uncommon mutation that started appearing in around 6th century. To get it artificially, a god's blood is injected in a vein -or in the somatosensory cortex for better results.)
Talked a lot but probably missed all points, woosh
The Immortals of Follyfoot Travelling Circus
I use AI because I can't draw.
Immortals:
According to mythology there was a period known as the golden age when numerous gods walked the earth alongside humans. However, this golden age came to an end, giving way to a dark age marked by the disappearance of the gods.
The reason behind the gods' absence remains a mystery and is the subject of ongoing debate. Despite their disappearance, people believe that the gods still exert influence over our world through two main channels: their Spirit Animals and Immortals.
Spirit Animals can be seen as manifestations or representatives of the gods. Each god has a corresponding Spirit Animal, which acts as a symbolic or spiritual connection between the mortal realm and the divine realm. These Spirit Animals are believed to possess some of the powers and characteristics associated with their respective gods.
On the other hand, Immortals are individuals who are born as regular humans but are considered avatars or embodiments of ancient gods. They are said to carry a unique connection to a specific god, usually indicated by their abilities, which align with the domain or sphere of influence of their corresponding god. While the Immortals are immortal, meaning they do not age or die from natural causes, they are not indestructible and can still be harmed or killed.
The number of Immortals, and how many are yet to be born, is uncertain. The Immortals are seen as both conduits for the power and essence of their gods and as protectors or intermediaries between the mortal realm and the divine realm.
Follyfoot Travelling Circus:
In this word a "Follyfoot" is an archaic word for a roaming performer, this circus uses it as the title of their troupe, but amongst themselves, The Muses, for they use the circus as a cover for their true identities as Immortals. They are all hundreds of years old, incredibly talented and prefer anonymity.
Darellion is the actor of the group, he is the avatar of the God of Storytelling, Poetry and History. He is accompanied by a monkey who collects coins from the crowds and even joins in on comedy performances.
Genesia is the musician, the avatar of the Goddess of Music and Song. She has a blue songbird.
Ori is the fortune teller, avatar of the God of Prophecy who is aided by his magpie.
Yon the Rednose is the jester, avatar of the trickster God of Mischief. His animal companion is a fox. Though he is the oldest of the troupe by centuries he is also the least loyal, leaving for great lengths of time to live as one of his many other personas, his favourites being Ridwyn Sinn, a homeless alcoholic, and Reynard, a highwayman who dons a fox mask.
Gotta love all those people crying about incest who act as if Dany and Jon having sex is more immoral than 30+ year-old Drogo raping 13 year-old Dany. Incest is wrong because it can cause genetic defects and is often non-consensual (the older person taking advantage of the younger person) but I don't get how consensual relationships between adults of the same age who don't even know they're related is worse than child sexual abuse?
I know … People are so close-minded, and very ignorant about incest in general. Incest simply means sex between people who are related by blood. It is not “non-consensual” by definition. I have read scientific articles about it. Incest causes genetic defects only because it results in homozygosity, which means possessing two identical forms of a gene. In itself homozygosity is not bad (we all are homozygotes for some genes), but it increases the chances of being affected by deleterious (harmful) traits. There are very few practical studies made on the subject (because nowadays people don’t practice incest), most of them are theoretical, but this increase is not enormous. Besides, there is also something called “outbreeding” (the opposite of inbreeding,) which can also have bad consequences on the genes.
But anyway this is a quick scientific explanation (that you didn’t ask for I know I’m sorry) of incest in our real world, and the point I am trying to make is that real incest is nowhere near as dramatic as people think it is.
Incest in ASOIAF is completely different. Targaryens and Valyrians didn’t suffer from any physical or mental deformitites - not more than those who didn’t practice incest. The Valyrians were, and by far, the most superior, advanced and powerful civilization on Planetos. They rode dragons, tamed volcanoes, built scyscrapers, used magic, and were the driving force for development and evolution in the world. Not to mention they were stunningly beautiful. So clearly inbreeding didn’t affect them in a negative way. The famous “Targaryen madness” that some members of the House displayed was an excess of cruelty, and there are no genes for cruelty. I don’t think it has anything to do with incest but rather with the dragon blood they have in them. Arguably the cruelest person of House Targaryen was Aerion Targaryen (Master Aemon’ elder brother) and he was not inbred at all. Neither his parents nor his four grandparents were related. Yet he still had the “Targaryen madness”. He is the one who drank wildfire because he believed it would transform him into a dragon.
And about the love part, I am so tired of fighting this battle … I don’t see anything wrong with two people loving each other and wanting to be together. One of the reason I ship Jaime and Cersei is because they are the only consensual couple among the main and recurring characters in ASOIAF till now (Jon and Daenerys haven’t yet met). All the other relations are either rape (Daenerys and Khal Drogo), arranged marriages (Catelyn and Eddard), prostitution (Shae and Tyrion), coerced sex (Ygritte and Jon) and so on. People are disgusted by incest although it is based on love and desire, but are fine with rape, arranged marriages, and other forms of abuse …
Another thing that annoys me to no end about Jon and Daenerys is that fans of House Stark believe that the House didn’t practice incest … lol. Nobody in Westeros practices sibling incest apart from House Targaryen, but cousin marriages and uncle/aunt/niece/nephew marriages occur regularly. People who think they know House Stark are claiming that Jon was raised according to “Stark morals” and is “too honorable” for incest (as if incest is dishonorable), meanwhile here I am clutching my book The World of Ice and Fire in which it is plainly written that at least two Stark men married their nieces, and cousin marriages were regular. I don’t know what they will do on the show (with D&D you can never know, maybe they will even make Daenerys concerned about incest), but book Jon certainly won’t be much disturbed by the fact that she is his aunt.
Anyway. The excuse people use against incest that “children can have genetic defects” is just that, an excuse. A lot of people believe Daenerys is barren and can’t have children - yet the same people are still against Jonerys because “it is incest!”. Why would they be, if they think she can’t have children? Incest is taboo in our world, and they’ve been conditioned to be against it. And very few people are able to look past what they’ve been taught, even in a Fantasy book series.
