California and Texas have always had a complicated relationship. Due to Texas' internalized homophobia, their romantic relationship is extremely complicated. It fluctuates from romance, to hatred. It is in no means healthy, and they both know it.

Due to Texas being more conservative, he forces the two of them to hide their relationship from the public out of fear of backlash from the rest of the states.

( not angst ) California was the first, and only person that Texas has come out to. With the nickname 'safe space', Texas assumed that he could talk to him after a lot of back and forth debating.

California had BPD ( Borderline Personality Disorder )

Adding onto the last one, California splits on Texas constantly. ( That's just the disorder ) It typically doesn't escalate because California knows how to handle his disorders well, but there will be the eventual time where California just loses it and shouts at Texas. Times like this don't come unwarranted though, there will be an obvious cycle of Texas' neglect and consistent arguments that cause the outbursts.

Texas' internalized homophobia causes him to act out against California. Even in loving moments, he'll find himself pulling away, becoming disgusted with California.

I personally headcanon California as transgender. Texas uses this as an excuse for dating a man because he still sees him as a "woman".

Adding onto that, it obviously has affected California a lot, having his lover not truely see him as a man, and dating him simply because he's transgender.

In the wild west, they called each other "Tejas" and "Alta". Now, when they are angry with each other, they call each other those names.

During the Californian Gold Rush, the two of them had been separated. California had been with many people during that time, and was used and left as soon as the Gold Rush ended. Now, California is constantly paranoid that Texas will do the same thing.

During the 1920s, the Hollywood era, the two of them were separated again. During this time, California and New York had found themself in a relationship, and bonded over the two of them being actors. Texas would find himself constantly watching the movies that California was in, and when news had spread of New York and California, he had broken his mirror, because he was unable to look at himself.

The two of them watched Brokeback Mountain together when it had first came out, and Texas had found himself overly relating to Ennis Del Mar. But, if anyone had asked him, he watched the movie because it was about cowboys and ranching. He "Wasn't a queer." as he would have said.

Texas cannot show his emotions whatsoever, it all turns to anger. Along with California, his emotions all turn into sadness and jokes to try and play it off.

California cannot accept any help. He knows that he is the "Safe Space" for all of the states. If he asked for help, who was he? He's not allowed to have feelings, it would make everything hard. He finds himself not having anyone to talk to, not even Texas. He bottles things up to the point that the smallest comment sets him off. This happened once during a meeting, when Texas had called him 'safe space', and he shouted at him, telling Texas that he had a name, and it wasn't "Safe Space", nor "Alta", it was California.

When upset, California only speaks Spanish.

Theater kids. Oh they are both theater freaks!!! (Projecting here but!) York is constantly cast in theater specifically, while California is an avid consumer! They're constantly singing together, and the entire statehouse gets annoyed.

Hollywood California. Ohhh Hollywood California. He was constantly starring in movies, he was one of the leading men. He typically played the love interest. The fan service was insane. And you know what York thought of all this?? Oh he loved it. Yeah, he'd get jealous that he was kissing other people, but DAMNNN he was kissing other people!!

They're often cuddling, California's love language is touch, so He's constantly clinging to York.

California is a YAPPER!! He'll have just sessions where he talks at York, and just rambles for hours on end. He infodumps a lot, about what he's hyperfixating on, and his special interests. York loves to listen ti him, he finds it genuinely endearing. He love's California's voice.

California had a "Phase" where he was a pop star.... he's embarrassed about it, but York actually loved it. He loved listening to California sing, and be so passionate about something.

Punk New York. He's got spikes, leather, battle vest, patch pants, crust pants!! He's a true punk, with his loser tendy boyfriend. <3

California is a good 8 ish inches taller than Florida. Florida is like.. 5'8 ish!

Florida gives California small rocks and items he finds that remind him of him! California thinks it's really sweet, and has a whole box of it in his closet!

Alaska is one of the only states that is taller than California, so whenever Alaska hugs him from behind, he gets so so flustered.

Alaska will cling to California during the winter, because California is a natural heater! :))

California absolutely adores when Alaska grows his beard out. He thinks Alaska looks so handsome with it.

They call each other bear-themed petnames! Alaska calls California 'Cub' or 'Grizzly' and California calls Alaska 'Kodiak' !! The bear states <3

Alaska adores California's glasses, and loves when he changes the style of them to fit the current trends, even if he liked the previous frames!

On a similar note, California dyes his hair often, so Alaska will help out! He'll help pick colors, and bleach California's hair, and actually dye it for him!

🔴 (Angst/Sad)

California was 14-in-body and 11-years-a-State when he ran away from home to join the Civil War. He was the last State to leave, the last State personification to join the war itself.

He was still young when he thought his father died. When he, and the others, started to avoid their mother; they thought she’d hate them for it (she would never). His self-esteem plummets, mostly due to his own thoughts than any outside interference.

In the 20’s through the 80’s, he was an alcoholic who did any drug he got his hands on. New Jersey and New York ended up staging an intervention, and he’s been mostly sober- aside from the occasional, supervised drink- since the 90’s.

Figuring out his dad isn’t dead, and learning what the Civil War did to his body and his mom’s mind... makes him want to start drinking again.

Like other States, he has several homes scattered throughout the State, but his main home is a literal mansion. Literally enormous, way more space than one man needs.

But, he’s a Material Gurl 💅💅, so it makes sense.

Former Hollywood Star in the 50’s and 60’s who retired with favourable reputation and vanished off the face of the earth, basically.

He has a fat cat all famous people have, his name is Alfonso and he is the sweetest cat to ever exist. It’s actually Alfonso’s house and Cal is just the roommate. <3

🌑(Sleep)

Literally the opposite of Colorado. As a kid he could sleep anywhere, anytime, and hardly wake up from anything.

Now he has very specific rituals and conditions for him to be able to sleep. When those specific conditions aren’t met he doesn’t sleep that night, and thus ends up passing out at 3 p.m in the middle of the kitchen floor.

The black skinny jeeeeaaans. He’s got legs and he’s gonna show em off.

White shirt, it’s simply, easy, goes with everything.

Has a lot of jewelry, mostly gold and silver. Gold Necklace with a flat pendant, a poppy carved into it with the day he became a State enrgaved on the back. Silver chains and bracelets, another gold bracelet with the silhouette of a California Grizzly carved in. Ears most definitely pierced, at least three in each. Maybe an eyebrow piercing. A ring on his right middle finger, with beniliote embed, but like; a family crest type band with a big piece of beniliote instead of a crest.

So, I know the flannel is ✨there✨ (jk I love flannels) but listen-- listen!! A different type of flannel. Like, the same colors but- an Actual jacket. I don’t know how else to describe it so I will include a pic.

Californiaaaaaa~ Brooklyn Jones~

I have a few!! Not many though :)

-California is one of the few States to have a seperate name to what his parents gave him. Brooklyn ‘Brook’ Jones with family, Cal Goldacre as a sort of stage name.

-A big Hollywood Star in the 50’s through to the 90’s.

-He decided to go by Cal Goldacre, mostly due to his own internalized guilt that made him think he was unworthy of using the name his parents gave him in order to be famous.

-He can balance on flat surfaces, but any sort of slope and he Can Not. Part of the reason he quit acting, with sets getting more and more complex.

-Fat Cat Alfonso for the win, Brook loves the fluffball. He loves all animals, but not all animals love him :(

-Tall and Lanky. The same height as Texas, 6’6, but not as heavy built. About 210 to Texas’ 360. This does not stop him from arguing with Texas, and he can hold his own.

-His favorite sports are surfing and horseback riding, though he doesn’t do the latter that often.

-He’s dramatic and builds a lot of false confidence to hide his insecurities. It works. Mostly.

-Does not work on everyone! The OG’s are Masters at Emotional Repression and his parents are Very Observant. He will be found out.

-Touch Starved, Alfonso helps. Not the same as getting the affection from a family member, but it helps.

-Adam and Robin say ‘Absolutely Not’ and make sure to hug him or pat him on the back at least once a day-- if they can’t, they call him.

-Difficulty talking to new people. Most States had that when they were young because, y’know, Humans, but it’s stuck with Brook through his life.

-He/Him but in a ‘He’s just a little skrunkly, he’s just a little guy!’ kind of way

Alright, this is my first post for the WTTT/WTTSH tag.

Moving on. I like that this fandom uses songs for fanfic inspiration. Ofc, every fandom does this but moreso for OTPs. Well, how about songs/playlists for each individual state. For example, I'm a proud adopted daughter of the great state of California (based), and a lot of bands are formed here. Some are more underground or practically unheard of but I'll list a couple of songs that can be used for inspiration:

Rescue Me by Dirty Heads (SoCal)- Recently released and on the bridge of the song is an homage to California Dreamin' by The Mamas and The Papas.

California Nights by Best Coast (Socal)- definitely more SoCal vibes then NorCal

Drive North by SWMRS (NorCal)- as someone who doesn't like LA all that much (srsly, it's overrated), this song speaks to me.

I remember there was a video of the Western states waiting for DC/Gov to announce whether it's a boy or a girl (el niño or la niña). I can't remember which one it was but California was, as always, f*cked. If this video exists or was completely made up, someone send me the link right away.

I live in the central valley (grew up in Stanislaus County though I no longer live there), people around where I live act more like if New York, Colorado and Texas all somehow had some strange love child

I moved to california a few years ago, no one acts like him here, the blonde surfer stereotype is more accurate
