Unexpectedly i enjoyed drawing these three together, and it was the first time i drew both NY and NJ ever (based NY a lil off your design and NJ off the two only people i know from there, Danny Williams from Hawai’i five-0 and Softwilly from hit channel Isaacwhy 😭😭😭)

Ignore the fact that i disappeared (again) for 3 weeks, it was the end of the 1st semester and i was drowned in tests but im back!!! (dw tho i finished with the highest grades in my class 😈)

TexCali angst HCs!

CW for : internalized homophobia, toxic relationships, and transphobia under the cut!

California and Texas have always had a complicated relationship. Due to Texas' internalized homophobia, their romantic relationship is extremely complicated. It fluctuates from romance, to hatred. It is in no means healthy, and they both know it.

Due to Texas being more conservative, he forces the two of them to hide their relationship from the public out of fear of backlash from the rest of the states.

( not angst ) California was the first, and only person that Texas has come out to. With the nickname 'safe space', Texas assumed that he could talk to him after a lot of back and forth debating.

California had BPD ( Borderline Personality Disorder )

Adding onto the last one, California splits on Texas constantly. ( That's just the disorder ) It typically doesn't escalate because California knows how to handle his disorders well, but there will be the eventual time where California just loses it and shouts at Texas. Times like this don't come unwarranted though, there will be an obvious cycle of Texas' neglect and consistent arguments that cause the outbursts.

Texas' internalized homophobia causes him to act out against California. Even in loving moments, he'll find himself pulling away, becoming disgusted with California.

I personally headcanon California as transgender. Texas uses this as an excuse for dating a man because he still sees him as a "woman".

Adding onto that, it obviously has affected California a lot, having his lover not truely see him as a man, and dating him simply because he's transgender.

In the wild west, they called each other "Tejas" and "Alta". Now, when they are angry with each other, they call each other those names.

During the Californian Gold Rush, the two of them had been separated. California had been with many people during that time, and was used and left as soon as the Gold Rush ended. Now, California is constantly paranoid that Texas will do the same thing.

During the 1920s, the Hollywood era, the two of them were separated again. During this time, California and New York had found themself in a relationship, and bonded over the two of them being actors. Texas would find himself constantly watching the movies that California was in, and when news had spread of New York and California, he had broken his mirror, because he was unable to look at himself.

The two of them watched Brokeback Mountain together when it had first came out, and Texas had found himself overly relating to Ennis Del Mar. But, if anyone had asked him, he watched the movie because it was about cowboys and ranching. He "Wasn't a queer." as he would have said.

Texas cannot show his emotions whatsoever, it all turns to anger. Along with California, his emotions all turn into sadness and jokes to try and play it off.

California cannot accept any help. He knows that he is the "Safe Space" for all of the states. If he asked for help, who was he? He's not allowed to have feelings, it would make everything hard. He finds himself not having anyone to talk to, not even Texas. He bottles things up to the point that the smallest comment sets him off. This happened once during a meeting, when Texas had called him 'safe space', and he shouted at him, telling Texas that he had a name, and it wasn't "Safe Space", nor "Alta", it was California.

When upset, California only speaks Spanish.

Theater kids. Oh they are both theater freaks!!! (Projecting here but!) York is constantly cast in theater specifically, while California is an avid consumer! They're constantly singing together, and the entire statehouse gets annoyed.

Hollywood California. Ohhh Hollywood California. He was constantly starring in movies, he was one of the leading men. He typically played the love interest. The fan service was insane. And you know what York thought of all this?? Oh he loved it. Yeah, he'd get jealous that he was kissing other people, but DAMNNN he was kissing other people!!

They're often cuddling, California's love language is touch, so He's constantly clinging to York.

California is a YAPPER!! He'll have just sessions where he talks at York, and just rambles for hours on end. He infodumps a lot, about what he's hyperfixating on, and his special interests. York loves to listen ti him, he finds it genuinely endearing. He love's California's voice.

California had a "Phase" where he was a pop star.... he's embarrassed about it, but York actually loved it. He loved listening to California sing, and be so passionate about something.

Punk New York. He's got spikes, leather, battle vest, patch pants, crust pants!! He's a true punk, with his loser tendy boyfriend. <3

He is unfortunately a theater kid. Broadway is in NYC, and god this boy.... tell him to stop singing jesus christ.

Surprisingly a true punk. He has crust pants, and they.. they smell but it's okay he's an icon.

He has a thick accent, and hates when people mock him for it. One more "I'm walkin' 'ere" and he'll genuinely kill a man. It pisses him off so so much.

He owns a few rats! He picked 'em up from the streets, and they're his best friends. Their names are; Shithead, Martin, Trash Boy, Rob, and Asshole!!

With what goes on in the subways... nothing fazes him, not even Florida's bullshit anymore. This man has literally seen it ALL.

He was also probably so mad and disappointed with the new ultimate guide. He's probably like 50/50 on thinking it was AI made or just so crappily made by people that know nothing about the books or anything that it looks like AI lmao.

idk if they'll be terribly interesting? but i'll try lol!

He has an affinity for all of the animals, plants, just nature related state symbols (e.g. beavers, eastern bluebird, nine-spotted ladybugs, sugar maples, etc. etc.), and probably loves learning about all of them.

He loves horses, and while he likes watching horse racing occasionally, he doesn't find the sport too terribly interesting. He probably talks about horse racing with someone like Kentucky though sometimes. He gets his mild interest in it from the horse racing in his own state (such as in places like the Saratoga Race Course as an example).

Is relatively decent at keeping plants alive, all things considered. The only person he really trusts to take care of them if he's not there is New Jersey. No one else gets to go near his plants. He likes to name them, too, sometimes.

Despite how much he makes fun of New Jersey's state nickname, he still trusts him the most when it comes to plants and gardening.

Not very original, but he has some pet pigeons.

He used to have a black cat named Void that would perch on his shoulder all the time.

Has snapped at multiple others to remind them New York state is not just the city. Sometimes though, he seems to forget this himself, much to his own dismay.

His answer on when 'upstate' starts seems to change semi-frequently, if someone asks for his personal opinions about it.

He gives Vermont Stewart's cards (gift cards you can only use in the store and those 'one free ____' ones) sometimes.

Adding on to that, he also sometimes will have a milkshake from them with him when he goes to the table. It got snatched once by Florida who then drank it and he still holds a grudge about it.

Occasionally swaps books with Washington, but will anxiously wait the entire time it is not in his possession.

There are times where he finds California extremely pathetic (can have different meanings, though. There are times where it's the 'soggy, sad kicked looking puppy' kind of pathetic or the 'you literally fucking suck, wtaf is wrong with you' kind of pathetic, among others).

Sometimes he'll make very spicy food and before he goes to eat it, walk up to others that don't like and/or can't tolerate spice and ask them to smell it, just to laugh at their reactions.

He likes playing sports. Ones he like are tennis, air hockey and volleyball, among (some very obvious) others.

He gets self conscious sometimes playing more active sports, or doing active things like running if he knows people are watching him.

He doesn't like swimming, be he does know how to.

He likes to go out into less populated parts of his state just so he can sit down and listen to nature.

He'll try to 'forage' in forests upstate sometimes, just so he find plants to take pictures and video of so he can show them to New Jersey to see if he likes them and ask what they are.

He used to skateboard because he knew it pissed other personifications off. He doesn't as much anymore, but he still has a decked out looking skateboard (it's black with things all over it. He decorated it himself and is very proud of it).

He knows multiple languages.

He finds the fact that it only snows for about a day or two in November and December in certain parts of his state now very depressing. He hates the fact sometimes it doesn't even snow until January. He doesn't like snow much, but he misses it when he doesn't see it as much as he used to.

His favorite drink is water. Cold, preferably.

He likes old/vintage stuff. He doesn't like calling them that though, because "It felt like this was the newest shit just last [speaks New York] week!".

I'm not sure if you meant 'NY and Loui hc's' as in, what i think their relationship would be, or 'New York AND/OR Loui hc's' sooo uhm. Sorry if i messed it up n this isn't what u wanted 😭 I'm going with what I read it as first tho bc idk which i was supposed to do💀: Relationships. I think NY and Louisiana would be maybe friends. Acquaintances. Nothing too special. They could sit in a room together and it would end up (relatively) fine. Probably talk sometimes. Exist in the same space and (hopefully) one or both wouldn't die. Infodump random shit to each other because (most of the time) the other will listen. They probably have that 'Only talk if people they actually want to be around aren't there/are forced to be near each other' type of relationship vibe.

I don't feel *forced* to draw these, but I do feel an obligation to once I ask, lol. Anyways I am tbh very disappointed with how this drawing came out </3 (said drawing under cut)

my camera quality does not do this drawing any favours. I'm disappointed I took a week to make this and it came out so mid imo. But, ehh, I guess you can't win them all. At least in the base sketch you could (kind of) tell with the front leg on the left that he was crouching and not that his leg is just. teenie. ughm. Y'all that draw probably feel me. Where you finish a drawing and are just disappointed with it. </3 Anyways. Hopefully I get back into my groove and don't struggle so much with my next drawing. Prettier

Mass finds New York, with four of their children.

Massachusetts couldn’t find New York.

Now, normally that wouldn’t be an issue– New York is a busy man and often leaves for days at a time for work-related reasons.

Thing is, he had explicitly told the humans not to bother him that week.

But Mass still couldn’t find him anywhere.

He hears muttering from one of the bedrooms, a room they don’t usually check without permission– New York City, Nicki’s room.

He nudges the door open, carefully, but stops. He holds back a snort.

Nicki, Grayson -Boston-, and Cooper -Newark-, he can spot New York asleep on the chair behind them, and covers his mouth.

Little Robin, barely the size of the average 10-year-old, an older make-up kit that used to belong to Trenton next to her, sits in New York's lap as the cities mutter to her with large grins. All three of them are crouched around the chair New York and Robin sit in.

“He’s gonna love it, Dollie.” Nicki grins, crooked and full of teeth.

“Yer makin’ him pretty for the first time in his life.” Grayson snarks.

Cooper just hands her the brushes and paints as she reaches for them, her little face scrunched in concentration.

Mass crosses his arms, leaning against the doorway as she huffs.

“Poppa is already pretty, Grayson!” she says, almost offended– Mass has to hold back another snort, “I’m makin’ him prettier!”

“Poppa’s pretty enough,” his amused voice makes all four heads turn, New York still completely passed out– but Mass can see their fingers twitching.

Robin perks up.

“Daddy!” she says happily, “Look! We made Poppa prettier!”

“I can see that.” he snickers, finally stepping into the room completely. “Though, I think ya did most of the work, Birdie.”

He sees New York’s eyes blink open slightly, watches him study the room for a moment before his arms come up around their daughter.

She squeaks, “Poppa!” as he sits up completely. She’s still grinning, “Poppa, we made ya prettier!”

New York blinks sluggishly, not at all aware as he tries to wake up, “Thank ya, Ro, I look great.”

“Ya haven’t seen it yet, old man.” Nicki snorts.

New York just turns to look at him.

“Hey, Ro.” he says, suddenly, “Why don’t ya make yer brothers pretty too?”

Ro beamed, squirming and kicking her bare feet– the girl hates shoes and refuses to wear them most of the time– “I’ll make ‘em prettier!”

As the three cities suddenly look some form of nervous– Mass doesn’t know why, for her age, she actually did pretty well– New York releases the girl.

She barrels into Grayson first.

As Mass makes his way through the sudden chaos; the boys talking rapidly, like they’re negotiating for their lives and not just trying to stop their baby sister from making them prettier, and Robin ignoring every offer they give as she advances like a car after a mouse– if the mice were nearly a foot taller than the cat.

“Birdie–Ro, ya don’ wanna waste yer make-up, do ya?”

“But I want to!”

“Heeyyy– dollie, why don’t we call Adam and you can make him prettier? Yeah?”

“Adam’s already pretty! He don’t need ta be prettier!”

…

They’d figure that out later.

Mass siddles up next to New York, grinning as their fully-gown, adult sons continue to try and negotiate with their kid sister.

“She did good,” he says, leaning down slightly, raising a brow. “She could learn a bit about blendin’ around facial hair, though.”

New York scowls at him, before he grins; crooked and so, so lovely. “Am I pretty, Edward?”

Mass grins, “So pretty, Tomcat.”

A faint sound of a door opening downstairs, New Jersey’s voice echoing up as the Cities shouting started to die down, Robin sitting on top of Boston’s chest with her brushes and makeup kits, the other two sitting nearby, accepting their fates.

“WHAT THE FUCK IS GOIN’ ON UP THERE?!”

“I’m making them prettier, Pa!” Robin answers for them, shouting back down the hall gleefully.

There are footsteps coming up the stairs, and Mass knows Jersey will be there soon– and he still can’t help but snicker to himself.

And as Jersey appears in the doorway, Robin perks up, waving with one hand as the other applies red powder to Grayson’s cheeks.

From Jersey’s expression of confusion morphing into fond acceptance, Robin’s pure joy, and the Cities all looking grim at their prospects, York and Mass start to cackle– leaning against each other as Jersey plops onto the ground within Robin’s reach; obeying the girls grabby hands and demands of ‘Let me make ya prettier Pa!’.

Mass hadn’t been expecting any of…this, and he knows he’ll eventually be made prettier. And still, he can’t help but feel warm inside, a soft, fuzzy feeling as York leans further into him, the others eyes already starting to droop once more.

It’s…nice. He likes it.

And it’s only August, it’s still 1776. He has plenty of time to experience more of it…

Fist off sorry for the big wall of text coming up, I just had to get this out of head so I can finally sleep and not keep thinking about this -v-

Okay so we know that the states do have kids and partners but like do their family's know?? Do the in laws know? Or it just one big family secrets that only a few know about, what are they might to do when their kids and wife get older but they never age??

Won't people question that? Would it be harder for them to date because they have to worry about telling the wrong person that they are a state? So the states make a game out of it to see who can get the most people trying to expose them in the past before Gov gives up all together and just let's the public know? Dose the other parts of the government even know? From the welcome to the table or seems like at lest some of them do, but what about the people in chairs that switched out ever election, some of those people are bound to slip up at some point or get made they were kick out and tell the public! Would the public even believe them at that point???

Or ever, or would it turn into another  conspiracy, OoOo states are alive and the government is trying to bind it from you OoOo, if you told someone would they even believe you? Or would they just think your crazy and start spreading that as a story of a wired guy you met, what about after the government comes out and says it's true? Would anyone believe them???

Would they have to show pictures of them when they were younger to prove, yeah I was a live for a while haha, which being me to another thought, do they have human names? And if so do they change it, if so after how long? Surly they would have to because they would be found out pretty easily if they did, but that would also be a lot of work to change everything so I'm not sure, also if they have banks and stuff would they have to let more people in, or do they just switch banks a lot so they ces keep using the same info?

What if they tell someone but the break up/divorce  have they made special government workers to "take care of them" before they can spared the word, or just make them sound as insane as possible so no one will ever believe them.

Another thing is are their family okay with them living on the state house? Like at all??

Did Gov even clear it with the states first or no? Dude they have kids to rise and your taking them away to lie with other states!

And for what for them to get alone? Who give a shot about that let their kids have a father figure Their life, also how would you even explain that to your kids? I'm sorry I have to leave you guys my work is forcing me to live with my coworkers until we can fet along :D

Also how do their families feel about them possibly having countless children and wife's that died before hand like in the 1800?

Who know how many states have kids from back then, has their Statehood ever been exposed because their family tree would be fucked? Like hey wait why do all theses people lead back to someone very much alive to this day?

What about their kids having kids? Do those kids know about the family secret or are they clueless about it? Are their states just filled up with their family members at this point?

Like hey we have the same great grandpa and look his still alive to this day making more off springs to make his state less empty 😌 surely the government would have to be working overtime just to cover everything up unless everyone already knows about it for some reason, that also bags the question would their people be okay will the state making all the calls since their "human" at lest in a way, would they think the state is making all the calls or the people they elected into the government?

Also what would they do if their kids uses yeah well my dad is the sate of Washington? Could the states use their  positions to kick out families and people they don't like?

Ie a guy bumped into you without saying sorry, welp guess you'll never get a job here again! Nore will anyone in you family either! So it's this tired family line that can't get a job in New York after someone killed his pigeon, his tracking their entire family line to make sure none of them can sneak back into the state no matter how many years have gone by.

Anyways this is all to say them having wife's and kids create a lot of questions I would love to see Ben's opinion on
