Monster under the bed pt. 3.1
"you know" you exhaled a soft sigh, you first stared at the fingers that never went farther down, then it trailed up to his wrist, to his arm, to his shoulders, all of which had well toned muscles complimented by scars. You pursed your lips, feeling your self getting warm with want.. with need.
Your eyes met his, his heterochromia eyes crinkled in delight as he patiently waited for you to continue. "That's more of a trade rather than a reward." you pointed out, a fair exchange of ownership, but not a reward.
He laughed "is that so?" he questioned, the hand that held your wrists together retracted, freeing you and so you sat up, his other hand still brushed and touched the area above your chest, sending tingles down your spine.
You nodded your head, as he tilted his head patiently with a smile, coaxing you "then what do you want?" he coaxed you with his sweet voice and lingering touches as you found yourself gulping.
You knew what you wanted, you knew it all too well and you won't let this opportunity slip past your fingers.
You wanted no.. needed control.
Dominance.
Scar was impressed as you straddled him, the towel wrapped around your body ready to slip off it, revealing all of you to him. His hands move to grab your hips, you could feel his warmth through the wet fabric, he was like a heater.
Your body seemed to melt against his, as you pounced after staring into his eyes. You find yourself smashing your lips against his own, staring into his beautiful steel grey and fiery red eyes.
A chuckle bubbled from his throat, as he stared you down, watching as your eyes fluttered close in bliss, your cheeks flushed. He pulled out as you panted, too excited to remember how to breathe in that heated moment.
"I think you can kiss better than that," he teased, the hands on your hips moving down slowly as it then cupped your bare ass. You squirm in his hold, nearly moaning as he groped it.
In retaliation your hands sneaked to his peppermint hair locks, playing and tugging with it as you glared at him. Scar only smiled as he placed his forehead against yours "how about I teach you how to properly kiss, my cute lamb?"
Scar's lips grazed yours, before it decided to bit and suck your upper lip. Your eyes almost shut at the pleasure, but you forced your lips shut.
"Won't you sign for me?" his hands kneads your ass, grabbing it and teasingly spreading it but even as your cheeks grow increasingly red from the feeling, even as your towel started to sleep, you remained disobedient as your lips were pressed together shut.
"no?" he tilted his head although you wouldn't notice as you looked away. A gasp escaped your lips as you felt his hand slap your butt, an echoing slap resounding in your room. He took the chance, kissing you once more as he slipped his tongue inside your mouth.
You moaned in pleasure as your tongue met his, your salivas mixing, teeth nearly clashing and lips locked together. You only remember to breathe through your nose when you felt yourself getting dazed.
Scar felt his cock twitch from the confines of his pants so the hands on your ass leave, planting themselves once more on your hips as he pushed you down, placing your right above the tent of his pants.
He could feel your arousal soaking right above it, and then he began to grind. You shuddered and faltered as you moaned into his mouth, you couldn't imagine you'd ever make such a lewd sound, but the friction from his pants against your bare and soaking wet pussy had you twitching.
You tried to push Scar, moving your tongue to the inside of his mouth, brushing it around his teeth and pushing his own tongue. Your hands planted on his shoulders as you steadied yourself but you knew you were fighting a losing battle as you felt yourself slowly coming undone due to his incessant grinding.
Your hands moved down to his shirt, unbuttoning it as he watched with an amused look. As his chest was exposed and you pulled away, panting heavily with a string of saliva connecting both of your mouths. "Giving up?" he questioned but you smirked, "I'm just getting started."
You push him to lay on your bed, his hands still on your hips as you slightly raise and your hands finding its way to his zipper.

This was requested by @crystalkat6747, it's in a headcanon format since I don't know how to stretch it long enough.
Characters in a Platonic Relationship: Jiyan, Baizhi, Rover, [Redacted], (Chixia is mentioned in the first part but doesn;t have her own headcanons.)
Details: shy and quiet child!Reader (+genderneutral?) who hardly speaks unless it's with someone they know, but then becomes childish, open and can be talkative with someone they are very close too. Already has their tacet mark, likes to explore and fight sometimes to prove your not a little kid anymore.

You were a young child, and you were even younger when the house that you had lived in had crumbled into nothing above you due to an attack from wild monsters, who you would come to known as Tacet Discords.
Your body was in pain, pinned down by the materials of your house, honestly looking back at it now from the past you were surprised at how cheap building materials could keep you down, but then you remembered you were young, younger than you are now, not as strong, definitely malnourished and weak.
From under the rubble you could see your family, the people of your small village be ruthlessly killed by the tacet discords, you didn't cry at the bloodshed you had been a witness to, nor to the chaos you had been a victim to. Being on the verge of death and being a subject to something so painful had made your body and heart numbed.
The carnage didn't last however, once all the people of your village had either died or escaped, a person had swoop down, killed the tacet discords. By then your vision was blurry, and your eyes were slowly closing, you tried to speak, and get their attention but it was so hard, all you wanted to do was close your eyes and sleep, hoping this was all a nightmare. .
The sound of footsteps and the rubble being removed was the last thing you remembered, along with the feeling of warm hands holding to your small, broken form.
When you had awoken you were laid on a bed of straws, it hurt to sat up but you force yourself to as your form was covered in bandages. "Are you awake now?" a gentle voice said as you turned to the person, he was frail, an elderly man who you would come to call gramps.
Apparently when you were old enough, he had told you how he had found you. Hurt but bandaged at the side of a commonly used road. That meant that he wasn't the one who had pulled you out from the rubble, still that didn't make you love him any less. For he was the one who brought you to the large city you had now begun to call home.
Jinzhou of the Huanglong nation, that was where you lived now with Gramps. He worked as an artisan that meant having to go out of the city in search of materials, hence he had found you while he was going back home with a cartful of items (the straw was something he picked up for a neighbor that tended to animals).
After arriving at the city, he had prioritized in getting you properly checked up. "Why don't we ask Baizhi!" Chixia had suggested, Chixia was a patroller that had spotted helped protect you two from tacet discords on your way to the city. Her hair was a fiery red, but instead of reminding you of blood, it reminded you of warm fire for some reason which had soothed your nerves in the overwhelmed state you were in.
Although Baizhi was a researcher instead of an actual doctor, she accepted the request and had healed you, of course the rest was history as you began to slowly settle into the peaceful city life while meeting more and more kind people who treated you gently and with love, as if nurturing you like you were a sapling that had the potential to grow into something. .
BAIZHI❄️
❄️ Baizhi who was surprised to find you visiting her once again, like you had done so many times. Well rather than visiting, it was more like shyly spying her from the corner.
❄️ how did you even get inside? she wondered.
(you basically snuck in, taking advantage of your small frame)
❄️ You who wanted to thank her but found it hard to verbally say it, so you ended up just putting small gifts on her desks from cute stones, to some sweets you were given but thought she might like them, and even Laternberries!
❄️ wait- how do you even have this???
❄️ definitely the reason why Yangyang watches over you when they both realized you'd been leaving the city every now and then (of course that was when you were older and more fit).
❄️ Baizhi who confronts you one day when you were putting some flowers on her desk because Yangyang stopped you from going out of the city.
❄️ Baizhi who instead of kicking you out or scolding you, made a comment about preferring to receive presents in person.
❄️ Baizhi, who after a few days, had a small smile on her face when she felt small hands tug at her clothes to get her attention.
❄️ who traded the snack in your hand with a small gift of her own. A snow globe with real snowflakes inside that would never melt thanks to her efforts.
❄️ the snow globe that sat prettily on your bedside table, which you shake before laying down, watching as the snowflakes gently swayed before falling asleep.
JIYAN🐉
🐉the both of you definitely met in less than. . normal circumstances.
🐉Jiyan was either on the battlefield or walking around the camp to deal with TDs when he saw you walking on the path with a slight skip to your step, your bag heavy with items.
🐉the general who was concerned on why a child like yourself was alone so he approached you and asked you if you were separated by your parents.
🐉only for you to stare at him wide eye, unblinking, and unmoving as if his gaze made you scared and speechless.
🐉you who reacted by looking at your feet and then at him, wondering if he was a good person. Jiyan probably realizing you were scared of him or maybe just terribly shy, or both, crouched down to now tower over you and smiled.
🐉Jiyan who although had experience with dealing with children was at a lost, he didn't have any trinkets or snacks to give that were appropriate for a child, nor did he remember any jokes that a child would be able to digest. ah!
as you hugged your bag closer to you, you wondered if you should run. But you didn't not when the man had held his hand out and something shiny, blue and green emerged. a dragon!
it glowed brightly, dancing around his arms before reaching out to you. did he control it? or did the dragon have a life of its own? you didn't ask as you cupped your hands together and watched as the dragon used it as a sort of nest, blinking at you before circling around you, head gently butting you.
you giggled at the gentle feeling and the small warmth the dragon had generated.
you decided then to trust the fellow who told you of his name, Jiyan.
🐉 Jiyan was relieved that he got you to follow him to the camp, which was a much more safer location. Of course the soldiers or midnight rangers couldn't help but stare, baffled at the usual stoic general holding the hand of a child who was chattering his ears off with various stories you experienced or were told.
🐉 Jiyan who ended up leaving a few of the rangers to watch over you and the camp, thinking you'd prefer their more outgoing or friendly personality compared to his own that has been jaded with responsibilities and lost throughout the years.
🐉 Jiyan who was surprised that the minute he and the others returned, you had came, tackling his leg and burying your face into it. "Hi!" Who had learned from those who watched over you that you rarely spoke to them. Who didn't believe it at first, especially when the both of your were in his tent, as he worked through his paperwork, he could hear you talk about the plants and tacet discords you found when you were walking around before bumping into him.
🐉 Jiyan couldn't help but feel smug at the fact though, a fact that his rangers didn't fail to notice.
"General!! how do you get [name] to open up to you?" one of his soldiers asked when he was alone and you were busy elsewhere.
Jiyan who simply responded that he did not know how, while the rangers looked at each other and then at the grin that was on the teal haired man's face.
🐉 his rangers who despite being jealous of how you opened up with the general, were happy because finally they felt their general feel or become more humane or at least. . more content than jaded, than haunted.
They watched as you were helping Jiyan with caring for the wounded, as you who drowned in focus, tried your best to wrapped an injured man's arm with bandages. The general standing behind you, giving you pointers every now and then.
They watched as their general smile, patting your head when you managed to get it right or at least improved.
🐉 Jiyan when it was time for you to go when your friends had found you to escort you back to your worrying gramps, had simply smiled, assuring you that you should go with them when you hesitantly looked at him.
🐉 Jiyan who found his tent eerily silent the first day that you were gone, who couldn't help but feel lonely.
🐉 Jiyan who found notes around his camp and with his rangers for him with simple notes of 'hello!' 'how are you?' 'did you eat?' 'did you rest?'
He found one of his medicine kit, a small note with a flower that was starting to wilt. 'Thank you for teaching me how to wrap bandages!'
He who received one from his rangers who had a beaming smile as he read 'I like you and the midnight rangers, your soldiers are funny hehe'
He who found one in his drawer, a small polished rock used as a paper weight 'make sure to rest and not frown too much! things will be okay! Gramps said that our lives aren't filled with just sufffering after all!'
He who probably found the last note, this one was bigger and folded. Jiyan who found a drawing of not only you and him, but also the other midnight rangers!
🐉 Jiyan who ignores the other rangers that visit him more and more, definitely just to take a peek at the framed drawing. He didn't mind, it was for everyone after all.
🐉 Jiyan who muttered to himself at one note in particular.
'do you miss me? :3 I definitely miss you big brother!'
"I miss you too."
🐉 Jiyan who didn't let the loneliness consume or distract him, who used your notes for motivation, that add to his resolve as he braved the night and day.
🐉 Jiyan, who when he finally received a break, decided to spend it by visiting you and your gramps.
ROVER ✨ (gender neutral for both rover gender-friendly)
✨ Rover first met you when they had first entered the city with Chixia and Yangyang. You were in the streets, walking around clearly bored when Chixia had called for you to approach them.
✨ They noticed your smile upon seeing the red haired girl, only for it to disappear when your eyes landed on them. And your immediate reaction was to shy away by hiding behind Chixia.
✨ Chixia had laughed at your reaction and rover's who felt an arrow struck their heart wondering if they were unapproachable to warrant such a reaction.
"They're shy" Yangyang told them with a giggle, as she passed the rover and walked towards you, crouching to not seem to scary. "Hey there name, have you been good since the last time I saw you?" The black haired woman asked and you bobbed your head 'yes' in response.
"Really? then why have I seen your running around the city without an adult?"
You pouted, running to Rover, preferring a stranger over Yangyang's silent wrath (an exaggeration, but something so real for a young child such as yourself). The golden eyed rover was surprised at the weight that was put on one of their leg. "Woah!"
The both of you almost fell from losing your balance.
✨ On days Yangyang was keeping on eye on you to make sure you weren't leaving the city alone without an adult, were the days you decided to force the Rover the accompany you. Baizhu and Chixia weren't an option since they had their own responsibilities, and even if Yangyang offered you knew you wouldn't be able to do anything exciting or fun due to her overprotectiveness.
✨ Meanwhile the Rover was wondering when had the child distribution chose them and made them a babysitter? Well they weren't entirely complaining, not when you were helping them deal with the tacet discords and exploration, they were a bit surprised when how easily you dealt with them though. . maybe Yangyang's worries weren't unfounded, , huh?
"Hey [name]?" you called him over as you two find yourself sitting on a rock, enjoying the view with snacks in hand that Yangyang had provided.
You turned to him expectantly, cheeks puffed up as you were in the midst of chewing. Their hearts squeeze at the cute sight, resisting the urge to pinch your cheeks they asked "When did you get your tacet mark?"
To their credit you didn't shy away from the topic, usually tacet marks were a very sensitive tale to an individual. "Dunno. . got it when I woke up after getting hurt."
They winced "sorry, it must have been a bad memory. ." You shrugged, perhaps because you were a child you still didn't understand the gravity of the incident, "maybe. . but i dunno, I dont feel too sad"
Watching your 'family' and the villagers die, it didn't make you feel any grief, really all you felt was the impending doom of what was going to happen if they found you or no one did.
"Still, you're safe now." They reached out their hand, patting the top of your head softly, fingers combing through your locks as you felt such bliss. "I'm glad I got to meet you [name]."
"me too. ."
✨ Rover definitely became one of your self-proclaimed older sibling, you had a lot of those now huh?
✨ but you weren't complaining, they let you accompany them outside the city and even let you handle tacet discords (With their supervision).
✨ He also helped introduced you to new friends your age! who have tacet marks too! like Encore and Verina!
✨ Rover has definitely met your gramps too, who made them promise to keep you safe whenever you were with them.
✨ Rover who still lets you have fun whether it be with fighting with TD or joining you when they want you to do something else, but still making sure things don't get out of hand and that you are safe.
✨ Rover who is truly happy to have met you, because in this world of uncertainty and with no memories, you were there like a comforting friend, a younger sibling.
SCAR🩸
(hope you don't mind, but I wanted to sneak scar into the headcanons 💕)
You frowned, rubbing your nose as you had bumped into someone. Someone rather tall and strong who did not fell on their butt like you had upon the impact.
"Well well, look who we have here" the person said and you couldn't help but think wow, they had such a good voice and why did it seems so familiar?
Staring up at the person you were met with a man who had two hair colors and two eye colors, you were mesmerized by the colors that complimented his face.
"It's been awhile little lamb" Scar said, lips twitching to a smile as you stared up at him with those innocent wide eyes as if you found him so. . amazing.
🩸 After bumping into the man (who danced around your questions about his name), you found yourself easily growing attached to him to the point you could quickly talk to him.
🩸 Since he wouldn't give you his name, you made things easier by giving him the title of 'older brother'.
🩸 Scar brushed off the title, making a comment about how you two weren't even related but inside he couldn't help but feel. . lighter at the nickname.
🩸 Because of his chaotic and dangerous nature as well as personality, he was probably one of the few who accepted and even encouraged you when or rather IF you want to start fighting tacet discords using your Forte.
🩸 Since he's a wanted criminal, you two usually meet up at night, it usually involved him sneaking into your room and bringing you outside the city to avoid anyone interrupting you. But sometimes he'd bring you into his domain thingy (where he fought the rover) if you ask nicely aka. .
“pleaseeee”
“Please what?" he asked, feigning ignorance as his two colored eyes lit up in mischief.
Pouting you tugged on his cloak "Please big brother? I wanna go into your super cool domain!"
"Atta kid" he said with a satisfied smile as he'd then mess up your hair while you two were brought into his domain.
🩸 whenever you could sneak away during the day, he'd suddenly appear and mess with you and annoy you, he was beginning to act more and more like an annoying older sibling.
🩸 once he was confident in your skills and use with your forte, he'd probably start training you seriously.
"Okay, so see how this guy is attacking me impulsively, you can take the chance and do this!" he laughed maniacally as he demonstrated one of his signature moves which effectively killed the tacet discord on impact.
". . . that's so cool!" you nodded vigorously, burning the memory into your mind.
And after a few days of practicing, you showed off all your efforts and training by doing the same move and killing a tacet discord in front of him.
Scar was definitely happy and proud! "Good job kid! I'd say you deserve some ice cream, come on." He'd then carry you off to a store where you guys do your usual routine.
🩸 that routine was to threaten the owner to get free ice cream and you'd act as a hostage. Then you'd two leave and when Rover finds you, you are alone, safe and sound, with some ice cream at the corner of your mouth.
Scar didn't expect to meet you once again, when he found himself in the same area as the hometown he left years and years ago, he decided to take a look, only to find the place on the brink of destruction and death. Yet instead of helping, he watched, watched with cruel eyes and a sinister smirk, the same people who casted him out were now paying the price for their ignorance and pride.
When the residents of the town had either perished or left, then did he jumped into the fray and deal with the Tacet discord. Yet he was surprised to find something other than excitement and carnage, there you were, on the verge of death, trapped under a pile of rubble. So against his better judgement and his chosen way of life, he took you out, bandaged you as you were fading in and out of consciousness.
He questioned what he was doing, hand combing through his locks. He wasn't one to take care of children, nor save them. Especially know when he was part of the Fractsidus. You stirred in your slip, eyes slowly opening but there was a haze to it, your eyes were unclear due to the layer of drowsiness on you, no doubt you'd fall back asleep quickly.
And yet you had enough energy for your hand, bandaged and broken as it may be, to grab his own. Your hand barely even enveloping his large ones, you fell asleep back once again, a small smile on your face, feeling accomplished for catching some 'warmth'. Then there was a glow on your hand, a tacet mark had formed.
"oh?"
Perhaps Scar will stay with you a bit longer, but not permanently. When your condition had stabled, he had made the choice to leave you at a fairly used route by merchants and residents of the Jinzhou.
Possibly this will be my last post for the WuWa fandom, I just got so burnt out with it for some reason that playing it is hard for me.
A/n: I sort of strayed a little with this one I feel like, but thank you sm for the request, and I hope you enjoy this!
Contents: Mortefi x GN!Reader, jealous reader, reader is very stubborn I must say, not proof-read. lemme know what you think!
Words: 3059
It’s suffocating. Uncomfortably warm and slimy. This feeling that roils within your chest and throat, you’re sure you’re about to start feeling sick from the thoughts spiraling within your mind. And the lab papers in front of you and the endless sound of the machine’s beeping is not enough to distract you.
Beep-beep-beep.
Have you done something wrong? What could it be? Only minutes prior were you looking at these papers with some sense of pride, imagination running wild with the possible outcomes of this hypothesis, positive ones. Yet, they were so easily shattered when Mortefi breezed by, catching a glimpse of the words printed on top, leaving several comments of where you could improve - how you should improve if you want to go through with this. Had you had a clear mind you would’ve done as he said, taken his words as helpful advice and not as an attack on your work. But his tone remained the same as always, it didn’t soften nor did it grow warm. So it made you wonder what he meant, or rather - what he really felt towards you. The latter was a question that occupied your mind for a long time.
He moved past you to the center of the lab, nearing one of the many lit computers, just where Baizhi stood. From afar you could see them greet one another and begin to talk. And that feeling in your chest only expanded further, pawing at your ribs and making you frown at the helplessness. Mortefi looked interested in whatever their topic of conversation was, and it lasted some odd few minutes. Odd minutes you couldn’t keep your focus until both of them left to their own stations, and far out of your sight.
A heavy breath fell from you, irritated but also… sad.
With your mind in a strewn about yarn, threads hanging, you began to think if this work was even worthy for you. God knew you wanted it, you signed up for it, you spent nights studying and working to be better and get better than that but all that effort seemed to fall short and small within Baizhi’s shadow. And you don’t even blame her, she is excellent in her work, you don’t hate her. But you’d give a questionable amount of things to have a fraction of that sweet attention Mortefi was giving her. Perhaps you were being unreasonable, irrational - and you don’t argue with it - you’re seeing green and red everywhere, and with hasty hands you collect your papers after making small adjustments, crossing out lines of text and noting down new words. And moments later you’re off to another part of the Academy, away from Mortefi and Baizhi.
What little glimpse Mortefi caught of you as you left shows disappointment and, and in the way you held yourself he saw traces of turmoil that he didn’t fully understand from that one look. He remained at his station, engrossed in his research and unaware of the burden you carried in your heart.
It wasn’t until the time for your report came and went. And when your break time came and went. And you were nowhere in sight.
That made an odd feeling settle in his chest, a vibration of an unknown bass playing amidst the bones of his ribcage, waves of it washing up to his neck. Unable to ignore it any longer, he bid farewell to his station for the time being, one hand buried in the pocket of his lab coat, playing with the lighter. Flick..flick..
There was not one spot in this wide and vast Academy that you could hide from him, not when he wasn’t particularly looking for you and even more so when he was specifically looking for you. He could spot you in a crowd by one lone look, to him you stood out like a flower amidst grass, how could he overlook you? Following the path familiar to him, he comes into a lab room smaller in contrast than the others, hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the center room and the halls. It is clean, it is comfortable. His eyes land on your back, your nose buried in your papers, your hands hastily fiddling with the apparatus in front of you. You barely acknowledged his presence.
As if to avoid startling you, Mortefi clears his throat, but he fails and watches as you flinch at the sudden disturbance.
“Mortefi? Uh- What are you doing here? Did you need me?” the questions tumble out from your mouth out of habit rather than genuine curiosity. You turned to face him, brows lightly knit together and eyes regarding him with a mix of feelings and inquiries.
“I grew curious as to where you vanished off to. Has your research been so indulgent that you forgot to eat or report in? It’s been 3 hours and some odd minutes since you began on this project this morning” he began, the nail on his thumb grazing underneath the lid of his lighter within his pocket, keeping still, yet tense in his hand. His sharp gaze moves from your eyes and down to the table you were working at, noting the sharpie marks across your paper and thinner lines from your pen, and giving a small nod at them he said: “You made those adjustments I told you about, I trust”
This pulls your attention from him and at the papers, and taking his words as some sign to move freely you begin to stack pages back on top of another. “Yes. I made the necessary changes to it all. I just need to put it all into practice and, hopefully, get the results I want” you respond, clearing your parched throat. His gaze is intense, you can feel it at the back of your head like two sharp points of a stick.
“You’ve been pushing yourself today, unnecessarily so. I sense some growing frustration from you” he says, leaving the topic open ended, expecting you to explain yourself, but where do you even begin without looking like a fool? Like a child?
You sigh, looking around the table yet searching for nothing as you shrug your shoulders. “No, no.. I just haven't been sleeping too well lately, and it seems that all is catching up to me” you offer a empty excuse, before reaching for a blank sheet of paper, a part of you yearning to keep him here, and the other wishing him to leave you with your own emotional burdens. “If a report is what you need, I can only offer what I have from the experiment thus far, but it is not concluded, I apologize”
“Ah, yes.. sleep. One thing that is most underestimated in its importance” he mused out loud, tone flat and ignoring your latter statement for a moment too long. He was pressing deeper into the crux of the matter, not letting you shift the topic too easily. “The report for an unfinished work will not be necessary, it’s much more preferable if you take a bit longer to get end results than to hand over a half-baked product”, he sighed, pushing his golden rimmed glasses further up the bridge of his nose. “Your dedication is admirable, but we can hardly expect progress if you're operating on insufficient rest and mental fatigue”.
You have to stop yourself from either chuckling or spinning around to stare at him as if he was speaking backwards. But no matter what you tried, you couldn’t stop your heart from hammering in your chest.
“Perhaps you should have Baizhi take a look at you. She can prescribe you some soothing medication to help you sleep. But as for work.. You’re done for today” he stated plainly, looking to the side and barely missing your shocked eyes.
“What? Are you dismissing me?” you blurted out, suddenly afraid you have done something wrong or that you offended him in some capacity. He’d never send you home, especially not when you were in the midst of a project.
“It's not a matter of dismissiveness, but rather a practical decision. If your exhaustion is hindering your ability to perform optimally, what benefit is there in insisting on your presence here?” he replied, his tone cool and detached. You blink at him owlishly, confused and, quite frankly, afraid. Previous anger, sadness and jealousy all melting away from your bones like wax over a flame. The flame being Mortefi himself. An eternal blaze that swallowed everything in its wake. You were wondering how it didn’t engulf you by now.
But in that thought alone you missed the point of it all. His flames didn’t touch you, didn’t scorn you because he willed them that way. The warmth of them kept you warm, kept you alive, kept you in this field and as his coworker, a place most others wouldn’t be able to handle. He would soften it all if he knew how, to show you he cares.
Sensing a shift in your emotions, Mortefi softened his gaze, a subtle nod of understanding replacing the usual aloofness he carried. He saw the confusion and fear in your eyes, and it pained him that he had inadvertently caused it. He knew that his words could often come across as cold and dismissive, but it was never his intention to harm or offend.
“Rest is not a punishment, but a necessary part of the work process. To push oneself to the point of exhaustion is unproductive. It only inhibits progress. Trust me when I tell you this."
Softness is undeniably present in his voice now, and your mind goes blank. Your mind was still stuck on this morning, on your project, but here he was breaking all illusions and thoughts by simply being kind.
“I can’t say I don’t appreciate your concern, but..” you look up at his eyes only to find a scowl curling the corners of his lips, and you sigh again, looking away in embarrassment. “I can’t argue with you either, can I?”
“No, you cannot. Now, go pack up what you have. I’ll go contact Baizhi and see if she can get a check up on you before you leave”
“No, no, that won’t be necessary..” you wave your hands before you, shaking your head simultaneously to deny the offer with your entire being. “I already have some tea at home that can help me with this, no need for a check up. I insist” you try, but only get a cocked brow from Mortefi, you can already tell what he’s thinking.
“Tea alone cannot be sufficient in treating issues related to poor sleep. Besides, it goes without saying Baizhi is well versed in medicine, and her prior check-ups of your health have been of great help to you, have they not? If tea was that simple of medicine, why have you not seen improvement?” he shot back sharply and you grew quiet, not wishing to prolong this argument further, but staying silent wouldn’t be the way to go either.
“I don’t want to see Baizhi right now” you said plainly, tone low and softened involuntarily. Your reply was met with a skeptical look, Mortefi’s head tilted in question. “And why not? Do I need to pull you to her office myself? You’re not a child, (Y/n)” he countered, not low on his arsenal of words and snappy remarks. He approached you closer, closing the distance between the two of you until he could peer into your avoidant eyes, making your heart skip a beat.
“I just.. Mortefi, I don’t know. I don’t want to see Baizhi and that’s final. Don’t make me go see her. I’ve seen enough of you two this morning” It slipped from your mouth sooner than you could pull it back, and immediately you regretted your choice of words, cursing the ability to speak. “Uh-”
Mortefi froze in his tracks, his sharp eyes widening subtly in surprise. The mention of Baizhi and himself seemed to strike a chord in him, and his stoic façade cracked just enough to betray a hint of confusion. “Hm? Have we done something to offend you to this degree of avoidance? I wasn’t aware of any discomfort inflicted upon you” he knitted his brows, looking at you for answers, his turn to feel on edge now. Were you implying he was acting out of line with Baizhi? He knew of how he behaved around others and he saw no flaws in his dealings with other colleagues, so it all left him in a more twisted maze.
You swallowed the lump in your throat, lips pressing into a thin line. “Mortefi- no. You haven’t done anything to offend me, I am not offended. I just.. uh.. No, it’s all too silly. I just meant that you two just seem to be too busy with your shared workload, and I just got tired of seeing it all” It’s a badly written lie, and the truth is bleeding through the cracks in neon colors. You’re cringing at yourself, really.. The lies you were uttering, however poorly woven, were evident in the way your face creased. He could almost hear your thoughts, almost see the jealousy and insecurity that plagued you through the lies you were trying to hide behind.
He paused for a moment, considering the situation carefully, before responding. "Is it really about our workloads, or is there something else that you're not telling me?" He asked calmly, his voice low and measured.
A pregnant pause befell your ears, only being interrupted by a distant hum of a machine outside of the room, and the footsteps of other workers in the halls. He does not push you to answer swiftly, instead he waits, patient as ever with you.
“I suppose…”
“You suppose..?”
It’d be a lie to say he wasn’t taut as a bowstring, ready to hear you out, anticipating your reply. His heart was squeezing painfully in his chest.
“Ugh..I just.. Promise me you will not be angry at me, and that you will not think ill of me after I tell you?”
“Well, this must be big if you’re asking that of me” he breathed out. Your hesitation was palpable, and the silence between them dragged on, only adding to the palpable tension. Finally, the words came, and he felt a strange mixture of anticipation and trepidation.
“I'll promise no such thing will come from me. Your words cannot change the way I feel about you” he replied, his voice tinged with a touch of irritation.
With a heavy breath you closed in on yourself, arms folded over your chest. “I was just.. watching how close you and Baizhi are this morning and for a long time now. You always spend so much time together, and despite you and I being direct coworkers and more than that outside of this Academy, I feel.. left behind”
“You are jealous?”
“If you wish to put it that bluntly - then yes. I am”
Mortefi’s coldness and stiffness seemed to melt, the answer finally clearing up the brain fog that had started to develop in his head. Things were looking clearer at long last, and with that he also felt as if he failed you. He has failed to make you feel appreciated as you deserved, and that makes his gut twist in on itself.
“I fail to see why you’d be jealous of Baizhi, even with the time we spent together. Baizhi and I are strictly work colleagues and nothing more. You are the one that gets to be in my presence, sharing stories and desserts after work hours..” Mortefi says out loud, moreso speaking to himself than you, as if trying to figure out your point of view. He wasn’t dismissing your emotions, but he failed to grasp them within his own two hands. He had been so preoccupied with his own work and responsibilities that he had failed to notice the toll it was taking on his relationship with you. His focus had been so singularly on his research, on his partnership with Baizhi, that he had unintentionally neglected the depth of the connection he had with you.
“I do have to apologize” he cuts you off before you can speak. “This.. area is not within my expertise, per se. If I had neglected you, I would’ve liked if you openly communicated this with myself” he offered, and the lighter in his hand feels like it will break apart under pressure. “And while I can’t limit my time with Baizhi, as it is all just work, I can accommodate you as well by spending more time with or around you, if that will help you feel more.. at ease”
There is clarity ringing its bell over your head as he speaks, already offering solutions to this problem you made out of irrational thought. Bless his heart, for all he is cold and aloof he is ten times more kind. Snappy as he is, he means well.
“Mortefi... Mortefi, I am sorry too. I did want to keep this with myself, it shouldn’t have come to this point where you try to resolve my issues by yourself”
At that he scoffed, almost chuckling but no laughter came from him. One hand perches itself on his hip and he looks at you with a look that screams of his desire to see this through.
“Oh, but how can I ignore it now that it is in front of me? No, that will not do. Especially since it is you who we’re talking about. You go ahead now, I’ll think of something until the end of my shift. I’ll give you a call later this evening”
Afterwards your company would leave his presence and the lab, having left with more reason than conflict, and with a mind full anticipation of his words.
And just like clockwork, by the end of his shift he’d give you a call, telling you to come meet him at your favorite dessert place.
Mortefi is special in his way of showing affection..
He is yet to learn his way with words when it comes to sweet nothings, but until then he can take care of you and help you out with work. Whatever helps you see that you, indeed, do matter much to him.

Jiyaaaan request coming your way~
While training his soldiers, one of them accidentally calls him 'Dad'. This leads to the reader teasing them but Jiyan teases back by calling them 'Mom' (or the gender neutral for it?)
(Was reading tv tropes and Jiyan had the 'A Father to his Men' tropes in his character tab lol)
A/n: Anon this request was so sweet, thank you sm for sending it in! Jiyan the father of an army fr.. I do hope I executed it well. Enjoy!
Content: Jiyan x F!Reader, fluff and playful stuff, nothing more
The morning sun had long since shifted its axis towards the center of the sky, blazing down through cotton clouds that sailed the azure skies. Below them, in the open fields, west of the main base cacophony sounded, consisting of commands, groans and other sounds of effort as the Midnight Ranger performed their training. And today Jiyan had come to overlook the session himself, although it wouldn’t be the first time. He was often so preoccupied with tasks at the front lines that he didn’t have the time to be leading drills too frequently, but when he did get the chance to do so he would take it. While it wasn’t a full reprieve from the battle, it was still a stark contrast to the grotesque and twisted fates he’d see daily on the battlefield.
Jiyan was noticeably more disheveled by the end, hair messy and hanging in strands and clinging to his sweaty forehead, hands on his hips as his voice rose to meet all ears present. You have just been passing by, helping carry supplies that just came in, and loading old and empty boxes back to be refilled in the city. For once there was no rush that would make your legs ache or your lungs hurt, allowing you all the precious time to bask in the views, the soft chatter and, of course, your dear lover.
The sun caught his figure and formed a golden aura around him, his skin glistening, and you couldn’t help but take a seat at one of many big boxes at the side of the training grounds after you had finished your task. In passing you caught a few looks, and a few smiles of the soldiers you knew from before. They looked much more lively, despite the rigorous training they just went through. It made your heart warm seeing them in better spirits, wishing nothing more than to see them prevail and be happy. And just as you had recognized a bunch of familiar faces did Jiyan conclude his small speech, about to dismiss everyone with advice of rest hanging on every word. He had spotted you from the start, when you were going by with supplies in arms and soon he’d have a chance to speak to you too, he thought.
“General Jiyan! General Jiyan, a word or two- if I may?”
It was a voice of one of the new recruits, Jiyan noted as he gazed at the face of the youth, a boy of twenty or so years by the looks of it, and eyes full of curiosity and admiration. He had come up to Jiyan just as he had turned towards you, prompting him to stay rooted in his spot a little longer. A few more young rangers came up behind the recruit, sharing the same curiosity but also being aware of whatever the recruit had on his mind.
“Yes? Is there something you need?” Jiyan questioned, looking at the young man. From his peripheral vision he spotted you moving down from the boxes and joining his side, staying quiet after a short word of greeting towards his Rangers, but your presence felt like a cool breeze under this sun, and he appreciated it all the more.
“I just wanted to say how great today’s training session was, we learned so much more than we did with our drill sergeant” he praised, smiling up at Jiyan all the while, “And I just wanted to ask whether or not you’ll be leading our training session tomorrow as well? Or any other day that is, we would really benefit from your teaching. I mean, you've seen it all for yourself at the front lines!"
The other few with him nodded along, prompting a small smile of pride to form on your face from seeing their fascination with Jiyan. To them he was everything they aspired to be - strong, enduring, tough but not lacking kindness or knowledge. There were times where they were scared to approach him, not knowing how he’d react to their questions, but from observing his interactions with others they warmed up to the idea and plucked all their courage.
A polite smile curled up on Jiyan’s face as he regarded the youth with gentle golden eyes. His presence as the drill sergeant today wasn’t due to his availability, but a simple coincidence and necessity to fill the shoes of their drill sergeant that had been injured due to Tacet Discords, and Jiyan just happened to be able to be there. “Ah, you have my thanks, rangers. If a replacement for your drill sergeant does not arrive tomorrow and I am not required to be at the front lines, then I will be leading your training tomorrow as well” he told them, which pleased them greatly to hear. “Although I’m sure Sargent Jin’xi has much more to teach you, something much more important for your sound development in this profession. You cannot take his method lightly. He has seen everything I have, as well. His knowledge is as valuable to your growth, and even more so than mine. You need the good foundation he can give you” He was aware of how confusing or hard it could be to listen to Jin’xi, as the sergeant had quite the eye for details and slow progress in lessons due to his meticulous nature - but that also made him all the better for his station. He was observant and could pluck out bad behavior and mistakes like weeds, and that is better to be done here, than in the middle of battle.
“We know, general, but sergeant Jin’xi is just so hard on us.. sometimes it really seems like he has no limit” one of the women standing behind voiced, earning a look from Jiyan that spoke of his understanding but also his disagreement with the subtle message they were trying to send - please, replace sergeant Jin’xi, or, save us.
“Yeah! One time I accidentally mixed up the weapons in the storage room and he had me do everything on my own again, saying how such mistakes can’t happen on the front lines, how it all means life or death” the first young man said, brushing his fingers through his hair and sighing. “I understand it, but we just got here..” he added and looked at his comrades.
What was supposed to be a short chit-chat turned swiftly into a gossip galore about Jin’xi. Had Jiyan been any different from the man he was currently, he would’ve scolded them, taken offense at how they spoke about his colleague, but he was in their shoes once, always on edge around the higher ups, and he wished not to bring that same unease to them. He didn’t fail to remind them to not speak like this in front of everyone, and to respect sergeant Jin’xi when he does eventually return, and they gave him their word.
The first young man that approached looked at Jiyan after their discussion, both hands on his hips and looking more relaxed. “We won’t forget that, I promise on my last name! Still, we appreciate your kindness, and one more thing dad- I MEAN- GENERAL!” His entire face crumbled into a look of terror, and all eyes of the group shot to him, looks of surprise and amusement appearing before several of them erupted into laughter after taking a wary glance at Jiyan - who was not offended.
“General Jiyan! Oh god- I apologize, general, I don’t know where that came from-” he stammered, shaking his head and his hands, face flushed from sheer embarrassment. More choked words tumbled out of his mouth, desperate to excuse himself and forget about this.
Jiyan can’t help but chuckle, the corners of his lips twitching in a failed attempt to hold back his smile. “At ease, recruit. You have not done any crime” he nods at the other, his eyes softening and not showing any sign that he’s about to dish out some punishment - that’d be ridiculous.
You can’t help but crack a laugh too, covering your lips with your hand as to stifle the sound, but your mirth was evident in your eyes. “Have I missed a chapter? I didn’t know you had kids, general Jiyan” you teased, earning a few shocked but heavily amused looks from the group. Giggles erupted once more, all stifled as they waited for Jiyan to respond to the quip.
Jiyan turns his head to look at you, his eyes boring into yours and questioning your intentions - you can read the thoughts going through your head and your smile only widens in a silent call to a challenge of wits. He didn’t expect you to say something like that, but he could only huff, hiding his amusement under an abrupt guise of confusion.
“Kids?.. Why, I had hoped you’d recognize your own kids, Miss (L/N)” he shot back instantly, making your jaw drop at his rebuttal, a gasp flying past your mouth. “General” you said, accusations plenty heard in your tone as the atmosphere melted into one of jest and play.
Many eyes flickered between you and him, taking in the easy way you conversed with one another.
“Yes? What’s the surprise for? The recruits look up to you too, if you fail to notice. You can confirm with them right now” he is shifting the spotlight to you, and the recruits are quick to jump in too. “It is right, miss. Personally I haven’t been around you for long, no longer than I interacted with the General, but you two are alike, you treat us new ones with a firm but kind hand” a young woman said, smiling at you, and you feel your heart climb into your throat.
“Can we really be surprised, they’re always together too-” "Aren't they married?" Whispering is heard amidst the group, and Jiyan looks amidst the faces to catch the one that said that but fails to do so, or refuses to weed out the individuals, and his eyes go back to you to catch your response. It’d be a lie to say your relationship with him was a secret, everyone knew there was something deeper between the two of you, something you didn’t show in public due to the war and status, but it was undeniably there. Still, hearing it loud and clear like this was like a splash of cold water. Despite their chatter, the group remained respectful, sweet in their musings.
“Ah, quiet, I do not want to hear it. This is about you, General”
“Ah, don’t run from it now. You’re the one that started this” he commented, rolling his eyes as he folded his arms over his chest. “Anyway, you’re all dismissed. I have a word with.. mother over here. Off you all go. I will see you all in the morning for another training drill. Get some rest” he speaks to the group, gazing upon their faces, only to see how they looked at him with some sort of childhood wonder, and that’s when he realized he must be flushed too. A sheepish smile bloomed on his face.
“Alright! Awesome-” “Yes, sir!"
“Have a good day, General! And you too, Miss!”
He watched them leave, bidding them all farewell, and when he turned to face you again he saw you pinching the bridge of your nose, hiding away the biggest smile of the day, the apples of your cheeks redder than before. The Midnight Rangers were undeniably close in connection, having spent so many nights and days huddled together for warmth or laughs or protection, and this small exchange only warmed Jiyan’s heart, to witness how positively they felt around him - and you.
“Didn’t think we’d become parents so soon. Have we gotten that old already?” Jiyan commented, tone softer in a way he only addressed you when you were alone, and there was no one near the training grounds to hear you.
“Oh, shut up, Jiyan-” you playfully snapped, biting your lip as you looked up at him, stifling a giggle. “You are unbelievable!”
“Hm? Did you expect me to stay quiet today or ignore your quips?” he smiled bigger and you have to admire the little dimples in his cheeks as the smile reaches his eyes, making them squint at you softly.
“I don’t know what I expected, but your response was certainly the last thing I expected” you replied and shook your head, as if that would shake off the redness tinting your skin, imitating him now by crossing your arms. The two of you were looking at each other, wordlessly admiring your red faces while throwing these little quips at one another.
“Ah.. you’ll get used to it, dearest wife”

Hiya!! I have a WuWa request, how about Reader stargazing with Jiyan and them talking about some deep topic of ur choice while stargazing? Only if you’re up for it tho! Don’t push urself. Have a good day!
A/N: Thank you for your request anon! I hope you enjoy this :)
Contents: Jiyan x GN!Reader, angst and sadness
Low calls of an owl echo over the breath of the breeze, the soft sighs of nature enveloping you in its embrace. Your head is supported by the lush grass, and Jiyan’s bicep that he insisted you lay on. His tone was low and a soft timbre compared to its commanding tone when he was performing his duties. Jiyan’s body exudes warmth and comfort, and in all the ways you needed him, he was there.
“You shouldn’t be so reckless..” He’d mutter, golden eyes dark from drinking in the serene, dark scenery up above. Little stars were freckled across the sky like little faded droplets of milk, counting up to billions of the same, yet not one less beautiful than the other.
The towering mountains sprouted from the ground so high, long rocks fingers reaching as far as possible, as if trying to grasp the fading lights and the moon itself.
“I know.. I try, Jiyan. Yet, I really can’t just stand by and watch, especially when I see you in the midst of it all, surrounded or cornered..” you respond back, quiet, not willing to disturb this serenity.
He hums, wordlessly in disagreement of your response yet he can’t bring himself to say anything in that exact moment. His mind is plagued by images of your exhausted form slumping behind a fallen tree trunk, and skin grimy with sweat and dirt.
“I know you mean well, and you are doing your best. Yet, you are not a Midnight Ranger, love, you are not a soldier. This.. battlefield is not your place to be in” Jiyan says, his gaze leaving the midnight sky and falling on you, seeing the way your nose curved and how your eyes were much darker in the absence of a lamp or a fire. “I am the General, the leader of these men, and I don’t need you to step in for me, love..”
He sees your eyes lower to stare at nothing in particular, lashes fluttering while your throat bobbed with unease. His words rang true, but you couldn’t find yourself accepting them.
“I need you alive... and I need you safe. While I can do my absolute best at shielding you while you are here, I cannot stand true to my promise to you if you’re jumping head first into hot water. Not when you do so behind my back”
“Jiyan… “ you sigh, trailing off, your lips opening and then closing as you try to pry your brain for a response that would get him to be more lenient, to see your side too.
“I know..” you say, your eyes finding his as you turn your face towards him. “I know.. I know you are doing your best, and I don’t wish to burden you with my-” “You are not a burden” “I know, Jiyan- let me talk.. please”
His lips press into a firm line and he gives you a small nod, encouraging you to keep going while his eyes apologize for cutting you off. One hand came to trace your cheek, he was almost laying on his side now.
“I don’t want to make your time more difficult, especially not when we’re in the middle of a battle. But don’t send me back to the city, please.. I can’t bear not being close to where I can see you. I am still useful here, perhaps not as a professional warrior or a soldier or a gunner, but I can help and I can learn too.. You talk about your promise to keep me safe, but what about our promise to stay alive... and with each other?”
Your question renders his thumbing of your cheeks slow before his fingers stop altogether in tracing your features, instead cupping the side of your face in his calloused palm. “I haven’t forgotten about that..'' he simply replies, the heaviness in his chest too great, making him unable to sigh to rid himself of it. Fatigue hangs heavy over your heads, but neither of you are willing to cut the conversation or this moment short.
“Don’t send me back.. There is nothing for me there..” Not without you- it goes without being said, and he feels it in his bones that he can’t argue with you on this, you’ll both remain stubborn on your stances. He knows he’ll have to put restrictions on you, to keep you safe, but until then he’ll enjoy this night of reprieve with you. The tent he sleeps in feels like a bed of nettles without you, and the way he’s comfortable laying on nothing more but this lush grass speaks volumes of that. He does not feel cold or irritated. Jiyan is at peace.
But he has to send you back, he tells himself, but not yet.. Tomorrow, or maybe the day after, until you forget about this conversation, and until the next cargo drop off comes in. Then, he’ll send you back.
“And we will be together, my love. You must be patient. You are my northern star in these dark nights, are you aware of that? The most precious person to me, one I hold within my heart itself.. I can’t afford to lose you..” he whispers to you as you watch him with pleading and loving eyes. You tip your chin up, brushing your nose against his and with that simple motion he is leaning in to grant your wordless wish, satiating your desire for closeness with a kiss to your lips.
The arm underneath your head stirs and he wraps it around his shoulders, bringing you in closer, flush against him, and you’re wrapping your arms around him and kissing him with fervor and unspoken love. Closer, closer, stay with me, don’t leave..
He holds you with such tender touches, holds you like you may fade away like sunlight before the long night, feather light touches tracing your cheeks and chin and moving towards the back of your head. He pulls away for a moment, his forehead pressing against yours as you both inhale the same air. “I love you” - it’s you who blurts it out before he gets the chance to do so, and his eyes widen with surprise. His heart drums in his chest, and he presses his lips to your again, in search of water to quell his worry, and for a forgiveness. Every note of love is interwoven in his actions, his touches and his kisses. Were the world any less cruel, it would have granted you two the eternity of this night, to forever be here and watch the skies in tranquility.
Black night covers you both in a blanket of stardust and far galaxies, bringing you safety if only but this night alone, undisturbed by monsters or people. And as Jiyan pushes himself to his elbow to loom over you, chasing your lips, a lone star flies across the vast sky, flickering out and leaving behind a silver fading tail.
Maybe.. just maybe, the universe heard your wishes.

Could you please write some hcs for Mortefi, Jiyan, and Calcharo with a shy and anxious reader?
A/N: thank you for the request! I hope you enjoy these. It's my first time writing Calcharo so I hope I did him justice
Contents: Jiyan x Reader. Mortefi x Reader, Calcharo x Reader, all separate, gn s/o, fluff, a bit of crack ngl
Jiyan:
-Keen eyes is one of Jiyan’s best characteristics, and when it comes to you that trait of his gets amplified tenfold. He knows you more and more, day by day, and he keeps little mental notes of your person
-Just a person, and even more so as a medic at heart, Jiyan is able to notice your anxious behavior from a long mile away, and he does do his best to ease you in situations where he can
-He would never leave you alone if the situation is something you can’t handle, or if you’re simply feeling unwell - unless you voice it that you want to be alone
-Patience of a saint and the gentleness of a flower. It’s one of his best virtues, being able to lead an army like a general but remain soft and giving, not allowing his heart to turn to stone
-He does have the tendency to reach for your hand if he sees you really nervous or fidgeting. Sometimes he’d take your hand in both of his and massage your knuckles and fingers with one hand, all while asking if you’re alright and if there’s anything you’d like him to do
-When he’s on the front lines and comes across any medicinal herbs that could help you, he send them to you with a little heartfelt note on how to best prepare it, make it into tea or even possibly incense
-Always there to listen to you if you have anything to let off your chest
-If it makes it easier, he also talks for you in situations where you may be overly exhausted or simply don’t have the strength to talk to the other person. He never oversteps this though, he doesn’t say something you may not agree to
-Lots of people know you because they see you two so close together all the time, and due to that you have their respect. Some may even fear to land a finger on you since they’d rather not have the General hounding them down
-Jiyan may also have his mother check in on you when he’s away on the battlefield and when he can’t be there for you
Mortefi:
-Yapper one thousand deluxe and the enemy of anxiety if you ask me
-Not that he doesn’t know what or how it feels like, he had his moments too, but he has grown into the man that he is today. Anxiety fears HIM.
-He is a bit dense, so he may come off as if he’s trying to scold you when he catches you holding back on saying something, especially if it’s directed at him
-He encourages you to just talk, spill it out, he will not scold you for voicing your thoughts and in many situations he even looks forward to what you have to say
-He doesn’t mind quiet. If he sees some silence will do you good he will just shut it, occasionally flicking his lighter - the sound is just so satisfying and calming in times like this
-Mortefi isn’t too big on PDA, but on occasion he will place his hand on your shoulder or back to guide you through a crowd of perhaps down the hall. It’s a small little reminder that he has your back
-Doesn’t tolerate anyone that may have something unsavory to say about your shyness or anxiety. He is blunt and sharp, and says exactly how disappointed he is in the person that says so. And what could hurt more than being called an idiot by THE Mortefi in the most eloquent way that it leaves you questioning if it was flattery or well disguised cussing
-Mortefi also gets into the habit of leaving behind little things and trinkets for you, usually little sweet treats to get your spirits back up, but sometimes it may be little notes too to remind you to not lose courage or reminding you to eat
Calcharo:
-When he first notices you are really quiet and fidgety and refuse to meet his gaze he doesn’t think too much of it - at the end of the day you wouldn’t be the first nor the last one that is afraid of him
-But as time passes and you two bond and grow close, he realizes it’s not just fear of him, but also something much deeper and complex, something he can’t quite grasp yet and that leaves him puzzled
-Does ask some questions in regards to why you feel so anxious, or why you can’t just say what’s on your mind to certain people - especially to those that deserve to have a taste of their medicine
-He may not fully understand now, but he doesn’t deny that this exists and that it should be treated with some delicacy
-Now that is something he fears he can’t do. Softness is not his forte. He can’t hold you like a mother holds a baby, that gentleness evades him, and he can’t tell you love poems to ease your heart, that kind of creativity never came naturally to him
-But he can ensure your safety, through and through. If someone is bothering you, they won’t be doing so for much longer. If you need something from the markets and are anxious to go since it’s too crowded, he is going in your stead. If someone dares to be rude to you in front of him, they’ll be lucky to walk away with their spirit still within them.
-He does his best to accommodate you, even when it may be unreasonable to do so.
-He is short and direct with words, so he does tell you things that seem odd to him in regards to his behavior, the same way he does to his men - but the difference is that there is much more..care in his tone when speaking to you. He cares for his team, but even more so for you
-Calcharo may look like a big scary dog that bites everything that moves, but if you come to him asking for a hug because your anxiety spiked and you just need to be held, he is opening his arms and pulling you into a gentle little bear hug and holding you until you start to pull away

Waiting for the day you start to write for Jinhsi, because you know damn well you wouldn't be able to get me out of your inbox
Y'know what.
Years have been taken from her childhood, traded for the heavy weight of an entire nation and an endless stream of meetings and paperwork and surface courtesies. Her home was traded for the one closer to her work place, a place of high surveillance and held under lock and key, and her door remained forever locked during the night with the threat of waking up with a blade to her neck.
Day in and day out, Jinshi worked tirelessly to see this goal to its end. She did not complain, not once, and took bite after bite, each one bigger than the last and way more than she could chew, but she still worked it out. The people’s happiness and safety was on the line, and it was her duty to see the nation bloom into a light never seen before.
Jinshi is the madam magistrate, bound for life in this field. During the day she is the snow that never melts in the dreaded summer heat, pelted with a regal glow that none dare touch.
But for now, she is yours. Just Jinhsi. Not the Magistrate, boss or ma’am. And you dare touch her, hold her head to your chest and caress her as a soft sigh fans across your collarbone. The candle on the bedside cabinet is slowly burning out, dimmign the dying light further but this night has only just begun. Her long frosty hair slips between your fingers with ease as you brush it from the roots down. Over and over again, talking with her about the long day, and how much you missed one another.
The city can have her during the day, but by night she was yours to hold.

A/N: This is just a little taste of Jinshi writing....
Hello there! I hope you’re doing good in terms of exams and remember to take breaks in between studying!!
I have a request but please feel free to leave it or skip over this one if you’re not up for it!
I was wondering if you could write how Jiyan and Aalto (separately) would react to soldier!reader who’s known to be always comforting others + helping people but in this situation finds the reader hidden somewhere and having a breakdown due to mental and physical exhaustion (but struggles to ask for help)?
A/N: Thank you anon, I try to keep that in mind at all times <3 And I hope you enjoy this!

Jiyan:
Days have passed and what felt like years have built up in a tight ball that lodged itself in your throat, preventing the dusty, but much needed, air to fill your lungs. It has been days since it had begun to build up, but with hopes for a better tomorrow you swept it under the rug, letting it fester and multiply to each corner of your being until it had you shackled down onto the floor in this pitiful corner of ruins. The camp wasn’t too far off, you think through broken words flashing through your head, if they need me I’ll be able to hear them. Tears bubbled up to your eyes, stinging and burning.
It’s been so long since you saw the city, smelled the flowers and felt the touch of your beloved, and nothing in the world could help you escape this feeling of the earth shattering under the soles of your feet. Your vision was blurry, mind spinning and lungs burning and burning. Rationale has long since left you, and you crumbled further, foolishly thinking of insignificant mistakes of your past.
Out of nowhere, a hand sprung up from the blurriness of the world, muddy waters of reflection caching color of teal and yellow and black as the hand grabs your shoulder. Fear engulfs you as you see General Jiyan standing in front of you, although your tears nearly blind you - you could never mistake the signature look of him. You could recognize him blind and deaf.
“J-Jiyan-” you choke, hiding your face away as ragged breaths wreck your body, the body that refused to stand up to greet him. You had no strength, no will. Your ears catch some muddled words and from the corner of your eyes you can see his mouth moving as he spoke, but none of them reach you. It’s hard. So hard to breathe and you’re shaking your head, wanting to ask for help but refusing to do so yet needing to be held.
This dilemma is written all over your face, your shaky fingers and Jiyan goes quiet, realizing the futility of questioning you, and instead he takes the matters in his own hands and sits beside you. His back pressed against the old, cold wall behind the two of you and one of his muscular arms finds its way around your shoulders, bringing you closer into him. Your body can’t resist, even if you wanted to, and it bends to his will, your arms reaching around him in some childish chase of comfort. If your mind was any more calm you would have felt embarrassed, ashamed.
Jiyan stays quiet for a while longer, simply holding you and lending you his company for as much as possible, hoping he or you aren’t called up. Just for a while longer, he says to himself. His hand rubbing up and down your back. As you slowly catch your breath and collect yourself he begins to speak, tone gentle and so full of warmth, he doesn’t want to let you go until you can stand on your own once more, and even then he’d be there to help you walk.
“Deep breaths, (Y/N)... It’s all right now, there’s no danger around us.. you’re safe..”
“You’ve been doing so much for others, yet you neglected yourself for even longer than that. You mustn’t do that…”
“I’m here to support you however I can, for now we can sit here for some time longer, until you’re sure you want to head out”
“Don’t rush yourself, and no need to be embarrassed. I find myself feeling the same as some times, but it is the thought of you that gets me through it all.. You’re human just like the rest of us. I’m here for you.."
Aalto:
What was supposed to be a simple run-in-and-out became much more complicated, the mission stretching on into the night and into the early mornings when the first lights pierced the belly of the sky. Your heart was ringing between your ears, drumming a haunting song that would have you exhausted for days to come. Had it been you alone, you would have considered turning back - no mission was worth losing your life over. But there were team members involved, all of them so close to you. How could you let them go alone, let them get hurt?
It doesn’t matter now. The mission was successful, yet you were still stuck in the memories from so many months ago? Get a hold of yourself - breathe.
Breathe.
I can’t - the little voice squeaks at the back of your head, full of tears and desperation as you walk home from duty. Your legs are barely carrying you up the steps that feel like a serpents winding body, one misstep and you’ll find yourself falling into its mouth. With a fuzzy mind you fight your way to the front door and fall in with stuttering steps, an invisible hand coming to grab you by the throat and choke you until you’re crumbling on the floor. The front door was left ajar for anyone to help themselves too, but that fact escaped you as you found yourself pressing into the foot of your couch, curled up and crying from exhaustion and the aching in your bones. All you can think of is how much more you could have done for them, how much you could’ve done for the mission.
“(Y/N)? Hey-!” A voice calls from the void, scolding you, sharp and quick but echoing. It calls for you over and over again, and it is not until your body is being turned onto its back that you realize you’re not alone. “Are you alright? Hey, talk to me” The voice finally clears up. It’s not angry or annoyed, but so worried unlike your mind had made you believe. It’s not the voice of the captain but.. Aalto.
Your eyes blink at him in quick successions, trying to rid themselves of tears while feeling more come up. His gloved hand is supporting the back of your head, the other one feeling your other arm up and down in attempts to comfort you. “Breathe.. breathe.. Come on, up to me, now” he says, gently pulling you up and despite his best attempts to make his tone more lighthearted, he fails miserably. Concern is evident, but he has way more reins on it.
He positions your forehead to rest against his shoulder, tugging your body closer until you are practically in his lap, his arms wrapped around you. “Breathe with me, come on.. in…..and out..” He coaches softly, rubbing your back and then carding his fingers through your hair, and as he feels you shift he lessens his hold - allowing you to slot yourself against him and wrap your arms around him in return. Slowly, Aalto begins to rock you back and forth, his tongue betraying him in this dire situation, so he hopes his presence is enough. After a while he tries to playfully scold you for this behavior, saying how you nearly had his heart stop when he saw you on the floor, but the undertones speak volumes of how seriously this affected him too.
“No, no, you’re not going anywhere yet. You need to take a breather - like I’ve been telling you to do so for months”
“Here, let me help you up. The couch is way more comfortable than the ground.. yeah- that’s it, good job, champ. You’re my champ, y’know?”
“How about I whip us something to drink, hm? You got nothing to worry about, I’ll have it all handled and ready before you can even think about it”
“Do you want to talk about it..? I know it all happened some time ago, but it is clearly holding you down. So tell me what’s on your mind, I’m all ears. You know I can help, in one way or another- but I need to..”

First of all - thank u for feeding us wuwa stans🙏 💓 love your blog
Can u do headcanons of Aalto and Scar in a relationship with a quirky/slightly unhinged reader ? Like she is not scared to get into danger and protecc but also attacc even when the situation is suuuper grim ?
A/N: It is my duty to provide food for my fellow WuWa stans. I'm so happy to hear you're enjoying my blog too, thank you for being here! <3 And I sure can. It is my first time writing for Scar, so I do apologize if he may be a bit ooc or if his hcs aren't as long as Aalto's. Feedback is much appreaciated
Contents: Aalto x reader, Scar x reader (separate), a bit of swearing, fluff and crack overall
Aalto:
-For a man like Aalto, it would take a lot to make him really scared/concerned, and he has ways and more than enough energy to keep up with someone of your caliber and personality
-He does love that you can match his personality too, and a lot of the time the two of you can end up bantering about one thing and poking at each other, even physical play fights aren’t something uncommon to happen.
-In most situations, Aalto does end up being that voice of reasons that saves you both some extra bruises or scratches
-Where he does drive the line is where you throw yourself into danger’s way like a sack of potatoes
-"How about we don’t! Don’t do that!"
-Although he may have all lightheartedness in him to soothe the souls of the weary and to trick little Encore here and there, he hardly has it in him to stay so optimistic where you narrowly dodge a hit from the enemy that could have ended you on the spot
-Sooner rather than later he makes it a point to stick to your side at all times so he can pull you out of the way, should something come hurling down at you and you just decide that you can take it on
-In the end you two are stronger together, and Aalto would not want to miss out on your killer moves. He does praise you too, he really does admire you.
-Loves to spar with you too, it gives him a chance to relax with you while also letting you both learn some new offense and defense moves. He does teach you more defense tactics definitely
-That all aside, he does admire your… odd sense of optimism. He gets it. As mentioned, he can always be playful himself, even in dark times, but Aalto is just not used to really seeing that trait in others, or seeing it accentuated in someone.
-It’s what drives him even closer to you. In a way he is overprotective but at the same time he sort of enables your behavior by not outright scolding you and keeping that lighthearted tone about himself
-In really dark times, it gets you both to keep pushing through, and that’s more than he could ever ask for
-He does cherish you lots for all you are, but each time you risk it he begins to hold you even closer, as close as the world and his duty would allow it, and maybe an inch more than that since he’d bend a few rules just for you
Scar:
-I believe it goes without saying that Scar would LOVE if his s/o was a little crazy. He desperately craves to have someone to do crime and be free with.
-It gives him such an adrenaline rush that he feeds off of, it is his lifeline, and he can never get enough. He is the adrenaline junky by all means
-Scar would love to tease and probe you, trying to get more ideas out of you for possible “date activities”. Although he takes this mission of his organization seriously, no one could ever really stop him from having fun along the way too. He was never even bound to the strictness that the other organization members shared.
-Enables all your crazy stunts and gives them his own opinions and ideas. And if you expressed the desire for it (more like he offered it himself), he’d summon that domain of his for a more “abstract” playing field for both of you. He is not opposed to showing off that goat monster form he has. May as well work as some extra training time for both of you.
-You can hear him cheer for you if he sees you kick someone's ass. Doesn't hold back to make fun of whoever it is that dared to go against you, and he hopes you don't show them any mercy either
-Scar would be a lot more openly affectionate with you as well. He’d have an arm around you a lot of times, and sometimes he’d poke or pinch the side of your stomach to watch you jump and squirm and giggle or squeal, and if you do that back to him he’d inhale a laugh (crazy man) before starting to attack you with more poking and pinching and tickling
-Can get a bit rough so I’d be careful if I were you-
-If you hurt yourself during a mission or just some random outing, he will be quite angry. Not directly at you, although he makes it a point to give you a scolding about keeping yourself in one piece, but he is even more angry at whoever dared to hurt you. He is way too protective. There aren’t many people like you, or people that he’d allow to be this close to him, and he doesn’t plan to lose you either
-If it’s some smaller cut or bruise that happens before his eyes though, he will laugh at that and call you clumsy or silly. Teases you about it for a little while.
-He may be a (little shit) little crazy, but he has his moments where he’d demand to simply lay down with you, wrap his arms around your waist and lay his head on your stomach as he rests between your legs and dozes off
-This doesn’t happen too often, but often enough to become a norm between the two of you. (Scratch his head, run your fingers through his hair-)

On my knees for some Geshu Lin content. Specifically some general relationship hcs.
You're a life savior ma'am ✨️
A/n: I got you nonnie 😙 First time writing for Geshu so I hope it's all good. Lemme know what you think
Contents: gn reader, tones of angst, some fluff, nothing much else, pretty much just some regular hcs
-Generally speaking, Geshu Lin would be tough to get to with all the hustle and bustle of his work duty, he's practically always throwing himself at the front lines as he wishes to materialize his goal into reality
-And although he may strike someone like the type to truly be neglectful of all things emotional besides the pure passion and anger to achieve the aforementioned goal, he still submits to human desires
-He rarely takes off time off work, and if he does take days off, when the front lines are secure from TDs, he spends his days working in some other ways.
-The home is in need of firewood? Geshu Lin is already in the woods getting the best tree down and chopping it up. Need food? If possible he'd go hunting himself, but he often just goes to browse the nearby market for the freshest option. Need help with furniture and rearranging? No problem
-He doesn't talk too much, as he's often exhausted and simply lacks in conversation that aren't founded by goals for war. And although that may make him seem one sided, he's much more complex than that
-There’s a weird comfort in his silence, and reassurance in the most human way he clumsily grasps the needle between his fingers to stitch up a hole in his shirt, telling you that you don't have to do it for him - he's got it.
-There’s something so innocently sad in the way he sits at the front porch and stares off at the setting sun, and should you find yourself next to him, he'd be placing his scarred and calloused hand over yours, sometimes thumbing at your warm skin absentmindedly
-He’s been a child, and in the times where everything is so slow and peaceful he finds himself yearning for easier times like that. When he didn't know much about the world and when his parents took care of his worries and he went to sleep with bruised knees and his pillow in his embrace. It's for a reason told that ignorance is bliss.
-Geshu Lin would do his best to be more soft and tender with you, and although it proves difficult for him he doesn't stop trying. Sometimes it's not in the same capacity as the days before, or as straightforward as the other times, but he never truly stops trying to match your needs
-In the end, you became someone really treasured to him. In his words - you wormed your way into his heart and refuse to leave
-His love is rough around the edges too, like a tall sharp fence around a piece of land, but the garden he's trying to build for you is like no other. Tell him of the flowers you'd like there, the trees and the insects and animals, and he'll bring them to you. The fence will expand, you're not trapped, but you're safe.
-Geshu Lin prefers to show his love like that, through acts and gifts and any other physical show of his love, affectionate words are not his strong suit
-In the night he'd cling to you, stuck to your back like glue as he breathes in the smell of your hair after your bath, his arms wrapped around you
-He is not too much of a morning person unless there's a duty to do. So on days off it's a 50/50 whether he wakes up early or not. A lot of times he'd wake up early but decide to stay in bed for another hour or so, for you, and to make up for all lost sleep
-In the mornings where you wake up next to him, with him still dozing off, he'd be the most vulnerable and tender. Smiling softly at you as you move back strands of his messy hair that fell over his face. His half lidded eyes would drink in your appearance that looks nothing short of ethereal and peaceful, feeding his weary heart
-Geshu Lin can't help but draw you closer to his chest, kissing the top of your head and telling you to stay still for a few more minutes.

hello! hope you’re doing well. can I request hcs about Calcharo with a s/o who owns dogs? the man deserves to be happy
(inspired Calcharo’s Hobby voiceline)
A/N: Sorry for the wait, got a bit busy and I really wanted to write a short little drabble for this scenario. Hope you enjoy!
Contents: Calcharo x GN!Rader, fluff
Long and pale fingers of the setting sun crept over the hill, fading and beautiful in their last moments. The grass grew tall here and the fields stretched on as far as the eye could see, with gentle rising slopes and hills here and there. It was all fun for the four legged beasts - although such a title did not suit them. They had teeth and their size was not like an ordinary street dog, but they were the kindest companion you had in a long while, loyal to a fault.
The big gray one ran up the hill, her faded white paws swallowing up the incline with ease while her slightly shorter companion fell a step behind. Moving in a blur, his white fur made him stand out the most in the field of green and sandy browns. He had joined your little family not too long ago, and he was still growing. It made you wonder how big he’d grow if he was this big already.
Pinching your fingers together and pressing them to your lips, you let out a sharp whistle that made both of the furry heads spin to meet you from afar. Small eyes spotting you and tails raising up. Lin, the gray one, let out a bark, as if to question you, interrupting the precious playtime, while Bai, the white one, remained quiet at her side. “Come here, Lin, come here, Bai!” you shouted the command, and although not too happy about it, both dogs obliged and began to pad their way through the grassy field towards you. Just as the sound of their movement became more audible on the ears, another set of sounds began to approach closer from behind. Rustling of the grass and a snapping of a branch had you turning around to meet the person. Your hard expression fell into a much softer one after your eyes met the pale azure ones of your partner.
“Calcharo! Hey, what are you doing here?” you question, mirth written in the lines of your face and the gentle wrinkling of skin around your eyes, and your hastened step to close in on him certainly didn’t betray that sentiment. The man looked at you, pale lashes fluttering as he gave a few blinks when a gust of wind blew in his face.
“I came here to come and get you, it’s getting much too late” Calcharo told you as he came to stand more at your side and not directly facing you, a subtle act in which he hoped not to put you at tension. He wasn’t scolding you, rather, he was simply worried.
“I’ve got two guards already, and if you ask me, I think a third one would make too much of a crowd” jesting, you turned to face the field again, and as if on cue, the two dogs made their way up the small hill you two stood on. At the sight of Calcharo, Lin’s tail rose high and wagged, her ears perked and her step hastened as she raced up to him. Squealing happily she did a small hop on her hind legs, and Calcharo had no other option but to give her the attention she was crying out for. He leaned forward, capturing the dog’s fluffy cheeks in his gloved hands and scratching back and forth, slowly moving his hands around to give the rest of her some well deserved pats and scratches. Lin coiled at his feet like a cat, ears pulled back in a manner so adorable it made you audibly ‘aww’ at the sight. Soon enough, Calcharo was scratching at her back, making one of her hind legs thump the ground.
“I think it’s safe to say she likes you more than me,” you said with a chuckle, crouching down to give Bai, who was still shy, some attention as well. Bai licked his muzzle and tucked himself under your arm after he circled around you, his eyes curiously watching Lin who fell on the ground now, nipping at Calcharo’s ankles.
Calcharo chuckled, or huffed moreso, as he went down to one knee to follow the line of action this dog dragged him to, but it would be false to say you didn’t see a hint of a smile on his face. “She may like me more, but she listens better to your commands” came a reply from him as his long hair fell over his shoulder and hid his pretty profile away from you. It had you leaning to the side in hopes to glimpse it once more.
“Pftt, as if, she learnt them all from none other than you, may I remind you” you said and gave Bai a ruffle between the ears, and then behind the floppy one, making him whimper in delight as he leaned further into your hands. The sound had Calcharo looking up at the ghost of a dog, white fur speckled with dirt from playing in the field. But regardless of the dirt, he left Lin with a final few pats on her shoulder before coming up to Bai who shied away behind you. “He’s still a little shy. But he has made great progress, honestly.. He looks after Lin but he is still yet to learn the commands''.
“He’ll learn in time. What matters is that he’s doing well now” His hand stretched forward after he kneeled down to make himself less intimidating, allowing the dog to come up and sniff him. Bai huffed, and what can only be understood as acceptance he sat down beside you, looking at you then at Calcharo. “He is protective of you,” Calcharo noted, looking at you as he rose to his feet, now not hiding the amusement in his eyes. “I’m relieved to see it”
“I suppose.. He is quite clingy. Although I am surprised he didn’t cling to you more, especially since the two of you are so alike”. Calcharo snorted at your comment, a small eye roll and a sway of his form showing his relaxed demeanor. He didn’t expect you to say something like that - being compared to a dog wasn’t on his list of activities today.
“What?” you beamed, chuckling as you realized what you said, but eager to prove your point. “You two not only look alike, but also behave the same!” you added as you got onto your feet, Bai following along your movements, pale eyes staring up at you and Calcharo while Lin licked her muzzle and went to sniff around. “You both look brooding and serious all the time, but you’re both so clingy- protective! When you’re not around I’m sure you warg your way into this dog to watch over me, I’m sure of it” you teased and jested, but there was truth to your words as well. “And most importantly of all, I love you” you added, and like a cherry on a cake, it hit Calcharo deep in his chest.
“That’s enough” he told you with an amused sigh, his gaze averted to gaze somewhere aside, and then it looked for Lin. “It’s time for us to get back to the city, it’s getting dark”.
“I have no fear, I have three of the best guards in the region”
Lin barked from the bushes and came up to both of you as you began your descent from the hills and Bai walked up to Lin before both of them broke into a chase.
“Lucky you” Calcharo looked at you, his pale lips showing the seldom seen smile, the gentle curl of his lips making him look younger, and even more handsome.
“Lucky me, yes. But I am lucky just to have you with me”

Hi! Could I request Jiyan, who didn't realise he was in love with his best friend!reader until he almost lost them. The moment he held them unconscious in his arms everything just clicked.
Angst with a happy ending, please.

I initially planned to write this as some short drabble/scenario but as you can see, things went out of control lol I do hope you enjoy this :) Also a small note - I initially wrote this with you/yours stuff, but I wanted to experiment this method, so I do apologize if there is some mistakes left here regarding that. Do tell me which one you guys prefer more? You/yours or they/them/she/her.
Contents: Jiyan x GN!Reader, they/them pronouns, blood and injuries, angst but turns to bittersweet at the end, fluff? They both live at the end so we can count it as a happy ending.

'I can't do this without you'
Holding the weight of a body in his arms never felt heavier before. The gradual added weight on his heart and lungs kept getting heavier and heavier by the moment, he was sure it would make his ribs burst from the pressure. And he wouldn’t be surprised if the next time he looked down he saw his own heart beating outside his very body. (Y/n) was pale, bleeding and giving no response to any action he took. “Please..” His lips muttered, but to what extent his plea stretched out, no one could tell.
His dragon came crashing through the waves of TDs like a storm, breaking apart their limbs and turning them to ash before he himself emerged from its glowing maw, jumping in front of (Y/n) with spear in hand. Jiyan’s face twisted in a fierce scowl, his sharp eyes hooded beneath his knit brows as he plunged into the remaining monsters that lurked around. But not even after he dealt with them did he achieve the quiet that usually followed a concluded battle. The buzzing in his ears did not stop. His heart beat still thundered between his ears, and the sound only multiplied once his golden eyes landed on the falling body of his dearest companion.
There was no time, he told himself, gathering all the courage and patience he found within himself, gathering them in his arms and fleeing from the charred fields as if fire was threatening to lick up his heel. The buzzing sound was deafening, so akin to silence yet it was everything but. He heard nothing else, but he heard it all. As he pushed his way past the soldiers at the front, eyes wide and staring into the void, trusting only his feet to find the path for him. He needs nothing else but to hurry and scold himself for not being able to go faster.
He carried them into the first medical tent his eyes landed on, the flap of the tent slapping out of place and before his form and before he could process the light slap the material did to his cheek, he was placing them down onto one rolled out mat in the corner. He saw the lips of the medical staff move, but no words reached his ears, and for all he knew he could’ve been barking or whispering at them to do something - to help them. He joined in the efforts, plucking out the gauze and the antiseptics from the corners of the tent and gathering them next to the mat as one healer already began to cut away their dirty clothes to gain better access to the wound.
The bare skin glistened with blood, the only shade of theirs that could make Jiyan feel sick to the stomach. Other healers in the tent looked at him in bewilderment as his breathing was yet to calm down, labored and ragged, but his hands held utmost care and precision as he started on the gauze, already keeping steps ahead and waiting until the healer next to him peeled the clothes away. Each layer unfolded like a wet petal, revealing the yawning gash underneath. Jiyan’s golden eyes turned a shade darker under the pressure and the light in the tent, turning a shade of olive instead, sick with worry. Were they gone already? He looks at their face, glimpsing their peaceful expression, dotted with splatters of blood and grime. They’re still bleeding, he notes as his fingers become slick with blood whilst he worked on their wound, there was still a beating heart inside of them, and that meant life. His mind spun prayers on repeat, prayers he thought he had long since forgotten the words of, favoring battle chants over putting his hope into something he couldn’t see or touch. How long till (Y/n) wakes?
Long time has passed until his mind has reeled back around to the present. He was alone now, aside from (Y/n), huddled on a small wooden chair in the opposite corner from which he could see them, patched up and under the light. His hands, once so calm and steady, had begun to shake as realization settled within him. How he could have so easily lost them, with so many words yet to be spoken, hurt more than any wound he sustained. Blood caked on his fingers, falling off into dust as he flexed them into a fist before releasing again. All the worry made him angry, and anger never suited him. It made him think badly, irrationally, and in the silence that followed the medical emergency of their state, all thoughts took root deep within his mind and soul, festering like a neglected cut. (Y/n) shouldn’t have been allowed on the front lines, he should have set them back, or even better - he should have misused his position and sent them home, risking to humiliate them for being sent home for seemingly nothing, other than his selfish need to keep them safe on all accounts.
Sighing, Jiyan shuddered at his own mind’s skilled ways of wearing him down. It played out his image and character in ways he knew he’d never act. He’d never do those things, but in such a state as he was in, he nearly believed it all. Pressing his forehead into the clean heels of his palms he stared at his own boots until the silence became a soft comforting buzz. Sleep had tried to pull himself down his eyelids, but each time he refused it, eventually finding himself sitting at their side again, instead of the faraway corner. Long hours had passed, and Jiyan felt the camp go to bed with the night settling in the corners of the world. But he couldn’t, it would be a disservice to you if he left you alone, but his duty called - and he internally begged for forgiveness as he stepped out of the tent to check up on all the others, cleaning his hands while he was at it.
There was blood on his hands.
And it was theirs.
And he’d never be able to wash it away, no matter how hard he scrubbed, or how many times he washed his hands.
Morning came chill and misty, but Jiyan’s body felt none of it. The cold clung onto him like a second coat, greeting him like an old friend and embracing him as the same. He only hoped the cold did not embrace them too. The night was sleepless for Jiyan, and after he had ensured the safety of others and checked in with his Captains, he had found his way back to the medical tent he left (Y/n) in.
“There’s a lot for me to say, my dear…friend..” Jiyan’s pale lips formed the last word hesitantly, treating it as an impostor instead of the usual warming endearment in which fashion he used it years ago. The word had long since become strange to him, yet he wished not to risk disrespecting them in this state, heavily considering the fact they may not even share in his sentiments. “Yet you seem so eager to cut your life short.. “ he sneered lightly, not at them, but rather at himself, blame always within reach to be pulled towards himself by his very hand.
“What would I do without you..? Who would I be without you?” The world around him seemed to quiet down in silent sympathy. “You mean so much more than you believe, more than you know.. I’ve wished to tell you, but all you force me to do is scold you and weep over you like some child… like when we were kids…”
A twitch, and then the fingers of (Y/n)’s hand grasped into a fist, making his eyes widen at the sight he barely glimpsed with his head hanging low, staring at the ground. His golden eyes snapped to their face, seeing the corners of their lips curl downward into a pain filled scowl.
“(Y/n)!-” he beamed with all the softness his surprise would allow him as he kneeled beside them in one swift swoop. His hand came over their eyes to shield it from the light once he saw how their nose scrunched and brows knit together. Relief filled their eyes as the intrusive light no longer tried to pry them open so cruelly. Dizziness was still huge, feeling as if it split their blood apart, making it as light as clouds, and making them float on top of the mat.
“What’re you.. rambling about…?” (Y/n) muttered, throat dry and voice coarse and wincing, their face once more ended up in a painful twist. Jiyan didn’t need all his medical knowledge to see they were still out of it, his frown deepening, but his heart raced up to climb into his throat.
“I was saying how reckless you can be..” he whispered, blinking away the nervousness from his eyes. His other hand hovered over them, refusing to touch them in fear of hurting them. But his eyes drank in everything, looking for any anomalies that he may have not noticed before, although the chance he missed something was astronomically low with how keenly his eyes kept vigil over you throughout the night. “Are you in pain? Tell me, I’ll help make it better” he told them, shuffling as he loomed over their body.
(Y/n)’s eyes still refused to open after they fluttered shut, their throat bobbing, but swallowing nothing with how parched it felt. “Water..” They croaked, and suddenly light was kissing their eyelids again as Jiyan moved away in haste to fetch a bottle of water.
He returned as quickly as he left, swift as the wind and helping them drink with one hand stabilizing their head and the other holding the bottle to their chapped lips, watching them carefully as they languidly took sips to drink. The gloved iron claw on his finger faintly scratched against their scalp, tangled between their hairs. Letting out a small sigh, thirst finally quenched, they finally opened their eyes to see just how disheveled and worried Jiyan looked.
“Jiyan..” (Y/n) called him, watching as his face both hardened and mellowed at the drop of his name in that worn out tone. Their face looked confused to see him like this, not that they ever doubted he’d worry if they got injured, but the tension within this space felt like a maw of a beast, ready to snap its jaws shut. Something was amiss, something they couldn’t quite place. The aching throb in their side didn’t subside, but they were able to somewhat ignore it for now, worry poisoning them into thinking of the worst - whatever could be worse than their own life nearly being taken away. The question remained unsaid, but it appeared as if Jiyan didn’t need the verbal communication to respond.
“Nothing- don’t worry about it.. Please, lay down and tell me how you feel” He urged as he placed his palm onto their sweaty forehead, pushing it back onto the small pillow below. (Y/n) blinked, confused and scared and exhausted as he pawed gently at their skin, only pulling away after he ensured there was no rising heat.
“I’m.. aching.. that’s all.. and sore all over”
“I believe that to be an understatement, this isn’t some small scratch.. You nearly..” Jiyan looks at the bandages, splotches of red already having bloomed through like little poppies in a faraway field. “I’ll get you something for the pain now… Don’t move.” It was a command, that last part, and left no room for any question or rebuttal as he lifted himself away, painfully severing the moment in favor of searching the place for painkillers and herbs. If there was a way to remain glued to their side and heal them in that way, he wouldn’t have ever left, and that option would have done his heart many favors.
“When will you start listening to orders?” he asked as he walked back to the mat, his hand grasping the gorge shaped pill box his mother gave him, his tone now heralding the lesson he was about to drop on them. His eyes refused to meet theirs as he crouched down again, popping the lid of the gorge open and letting two pills fall into his open palm.
“Whenever you... decide to be less dense..” (Y/n) responded with a small cough that rippled the pain from their wound, and wincing they forced themselves to stay still. He did not take sweetly to the jest, his eyes focusing on them like a target, a beloved one at that.
“You should have called out.. I was there, I could have helped you out. You didn’t need to get hurt, and all because of your faulty sense of independence” Jiyan kept going, urgency for them to understand his side coloring his voice. He helped them sit slowly, apologizing for making them move in a husky and quiet tone, apologizing for making them sit and be here and be in pain, swallowing the big tasteless pills.
Keeping their silence, (Y/n) looks down, guilt seeping through their veins and weary body which seemed to know no rest now.
Sore and worried and dizzy and ever forgetful in this half slumbering state they could only grasp at the thin strings of consciousness as Jiyan loomed over them like a hawk, restless in his pursuit to help, yet he remained in the dark as to how else to do so. What else could he do except think of healing magic he had no possession of. His teeth grinded together, golden eyes flickering over them and then up to their face, meeting their bleary gaze.
“I’m sorry…”
(Y/n) whispered, one hand over their chest as they took breaths in, slow and weak, but good - they were not the shallow breaths you took when he was racing back to the medics and other healers with them in his arms. This was better.
Jiyan’s heart stuttered at the low tone that broke under the pressure he had placed upon them, unwilling yet it was no less necessary if he wished to have them understand. Too many times he had sat down with them, told them to be careful, to follow protocol and all the talked about strategies, to value the teammates at their sides, yet it all seemed for naught. What did those conversations mean, they could not heal you now and make you whole again.
A shaky sigh drops from Jiyan, pulling all the weight from his shoulders and making him sag in his spot, head hanging low and heavy. What was he supposed to say? He had words too many to share.
“It’s… fine.. What’s done is done, and we can’t change what happened.. It’s alright..”
“You’re mad at me..”
Of course he is. Grief has never bitten him so hard as in the moment he saw them stagger in the field, it made his stomach churn and his sides tickle as if wind passed through the hollows between his ribs. And he grieved as if he lost them while patching you up, so much so it poisoned him and made him mad, angry.
“I.. I am not mad at you.. ” ‘I love you, why can’t you see?’ - a part of him wanted to say.
Blinking at him, tears bubbled up to their lash line, listening to him huff, unknowing of the inner turmoil he struggled through, the answer to close yet so far, holding you in suspense. Like a word about to be spoken.
“Why can’t you just listen to orders.. You throw yourself into danger as if you have lives to spare” Jiyan began, finding their eyes in a stern glare which mellowed out quickly. “You are not valued only as a soldier to be thrown across the board but as a human, someone’s companion.. (Y/n)..”
There’s a plea in his tone, and another in his eyes, and his fingers itch with the need to hold onto them, to let the venom of his grief seep into them too, to make them see, understand. It’s like a beast he’s hardly keeping at bay. When was the last time he felt so strongly about someone? Anyone? And to the point he’s shedding his general persona to give way to a man desperate to keep the few people he holds dear alive. Jiyan couldn’t name anyone.
“I understand that, but Jiyan.. how many nights have we spent talking about the day of peace? When there’s going to be no wars to fight? I know-” A cough interrupts them, but Jiyan does not jump at that opportunity to cut them off and scold them - he waits. “..I know it’s a childish dream, a hope, but peace is achievable. And if it means getting battered and bruised and hurt along the way, then so be it - the road to peace is not paved in a bed of flowers..” (Y/n) frowns, nearly pouting, and in some absentminded state, their hand flails in the air in search of his, a purchase he gladly grants without a thought.
Shaky fingers curl around his gloved ones, a tinge smaller, and more fragile than his own with the state now. They lack the grip they usually possess, yet they grasp and hold and he holds back, squeezing a bit tighter. God knows, he shares their view, their childish hope, but he can’t agree with it, not now. “(Y/n).. Peace will mean little if you’re dead to see it..” It’s a whisper, as fragile as the wings of a hatchling, and as soft as the summer breeze.
“That all will mean nothing to me either, it won’t be peace if you’re not with me to see it..” he added, his other hand grasping over their own, thumbing at their soft skin. He swallows thickly, hoping to wish away the tears that threaten to come up to his eyes. “I lo-... I love …you…”
Realization is slow to settle, but he sees it in their face, their eyes that fail to blink as they take him in, deciphering his words one by one, failing, at first, to understand their weight from the usual affections they shared before. Parting their lips, they fail to respond, their eyes flickering to the surroundings before they return to him, and it was as if all air had been knocked out of their lungs. The meaning is written all over him, communicated through all ways but verbal and it was enough. They were children together, growing up and exploring the world, plucking strange berries from nature and sharing them together, they grew up together.
Now they are grown, and (Y/n) focuses on the thought that has appeared in their mind countless times before - growing old together. It was just out of reach, and it was not guaranteed and their actions on the battlefield nearly made it certain that the future would not embrace them together. Trying to blink the tears away, they look at Jiyan, apologetic and ashamed, but where they wished to seek forgiveness was unneeded, as Jiyan had already forgiven it, no matter the hurt.
“I love you too-” The words were accompanied by a stray tear wetting their cheek.
Hushed breaths and shuffling of clothes flutter, and in a blur, Jiyan had pulled himself ever closer, sitting at their side and ever so carefully drawing them to his chest. His movements are slow and calculated even in the face of such strong emotion, too fearful to hurt them.
He lets them rest their face into the crook of his neck, eyes fluttering closed as they both simply hold onto one another, and it was in that moment he felt them squeeze him back, full of blooming life and energy. His fingertips itched for a stronger embrace but he controlled himself.
“I love you..” he repeated, even more quiet and directly beside their ear. “Please.. listen to me.. I only wish to keep you safe.. alive most of all.. Understand me..” They nod their head against him, their fingers clawing at his back with a little more strength, holding on as if he was a ghost ready to vanish. “You’re my candlelight leading me through the darkness.. I can’t do it without you..”
“Oh, Jiyan..” They crack their voice over his name, eyes seeing a mosaic of colors through tears ready to be shed. “I only wish to help you.. Under all this armor and uniform, I can see you struggling too.. How can I not become a little desperate when I see all my other attempts to help you have failed?” They sigh, their breath tickling the skin underneath this chin and he shudders to think of this mutual tug-of-war. They can’t win, neither can.
“You leave my struggles to me.. I do not withhold them for no reason, but I see that has done me, us, more harm than good..” He says but fails to make another sentence, knowing he’d rather not burden them with his own worries, and he’d much rather hear of their own.
“Just.. promise me this” he begins, pulling away and making them face to face. “You will not jump to take any more blows for me, in no amounts at all. I’m the one that should guard you, and not the other way around” He is firm in his case, and even if (Y/n) had the strength to argue, they wouldn’t. This was final.
Closing your eyes and giving a little bow of their head, they profess their agreement to his words without a word of their own. And sinking back into his embrace felt like sinking into a bed of feathers, soft, warm and welcoming. “Fine..”
“We’ll talk more about this once you’ve healed..” Jiyan muttered, his lips ghosting their brow and feeling them nod against him again. His hand rubs up and down their back, and his lips land on their cheek, lingering there in a gentle expression of his love that knew no bounds.
The flickering light and the sudden silence made his mind wander, and his body began to rock back and forth slowly, hoping to ease you into slumber. He wondered how it would feel to hold them again, when they were healed and not even a scar remained of their injury; how it would feel to kiss their brow and hold their cheek in his palm, to see those lights stare back at him from within their eyes, full of mirth and devoid of pain; he thinks how comforting it would feel to feel you flush against him each morning, holding your warm body close and tucking them under the covers when they shift in their sleep… So many images run through his mind, and he prays he gets to see them materialize in reality.
For now he was fine with holding them, serving their needs until war reeled its ugly head again, and he had to leave once more. For his people and (Y/n) he’d grow great miles to achieve peace, even if it meant losing his own peace.

Came across House of Dragons and kinda got invested then I saw you accept Jiyan requests so now I’m kinda thinking what a mixture of the two would be like….Jiyan with his own dragon riding in Westeros…Jiyan courting you despite protests from his court…Jiyan protecting his queen from anyone that tries to hurt her or his heirs…idk I am just a causal watcher I have no clue what’s actually going on in GoT and HoD tbh
A/n: I'm uploading this from my phone because I just can't wait to post this, so if there's formatting or grammar errors - rest assured, I'll do my best to get to it once I get on my laptop. Contents: Jiyan x Reader, headcanons, you/yours, written with a F! Reader in mind, dragonrider reader and Jiyan, Game of Thrones/House of The Dragon universe, pregnancy, angst, happy ending, somewhat arranged marriage lol, tell me if there's anything else to tag.
-War had taken many noble houses to an early grave, leaving behind nothing but ghosts and ruin over the vast lands. The ones that remained standing were either the rich or the cruel. All except one.
-Jiyan, originally hailing from Jinzhou, and belonging to no noble or rich lineage. His mother was a notorious healer, and his father had long been lost to travels and war himself.
-He had joined the battles as a young green boy alongside his mother, moving beside the long columns of soldiers in their tattered armor and ringmail. All he could do was stare at them in wonder and question - Why do they spill so much blood? For what?
-There was no looming threat of the Others coming to claim their lives, it was just them - the people and the common folk, yet they fought each other like animals for a few extra inches of land or a few extra coppers in their liege lord's pocket.
-As much as Jiyan didn't wish to engage in the art of war and bloodshed and only wanted to heal and save, it became apparent, all too soon, that the way to survival and peace was through battle. Healing will get him nowhere, and if a good commander was not put at the front, it wouldn't matter how well he healed if two in three soldiers died, even after receiving his aid.
-The war changed him, hardened his heart and fortified his mind, until the healer he once was became only a distant memory. Spear replaced herbs, and instead of the tattered medic tunic he now donned armor and ringmail. A companion also joined his side after he ran into a deep cavern for safety during one particular battle. A large unclaimed dragon, which nearly took his head off now stood at his side like a mountain, guardian him day and night and heralding the doom of his enemies with a thunderous roar and loud snap of it's wings. The dragon was a beautiful pale green, with bronze horns and amber eyes with darker lines of green running over its back. It was a beauty as much as it was a beast. Men quickly took to respect him, and it became evident Jiyan’s person hid many talents besides that for medical aid and spear holding.
-The previous commander perished, another life taken by the savage ways of war, and Jiyan was appointed as the new commander by the soldiers after he rose to the occasion - having led them to success in war, as well as safety when the odds did not favor them.
-It was during his reign as the lead commander that the lands saw the end of the war. Blood was shed, yes, but not for naught.
-Upon his return to the central city, the throne was found vacant, the king slain along with his entire council. The word of it was that they were taken unawares from the seaside, and had no ways of defense, as all the manpower was at the front lines
-Jiyan came into his rule as king at a young age, far too soon, and yet despite all the doubt he had flourished quickly. Proving himself as an able and just ruler, unlike the ones that came before, his foundation as a commander giving him good wind in the back
-The city wasn't in good condition after the war, but in the years following Jiyan had sent many commands that would aid in its rebuilding
-Slowly, but surely, the common folk started to feel the dawn of a new age - summer has finally come.
-The one thing Jiyan has gladly forgotten about was marriage. As a king, it was expected of him to take a bride to be his queen, to have heirs and to start a new lineage that would, hopefully, carry better blood instead of the hot blood that sought destruction. It wasn't something he often thought about as other duties preoccupied him day in and day out. But it was neither something he was against.. Deep in his heart he would admit a thought of his own family did make him feel…alive. But how would that family fare in these conditions? With his status? This was nothing like his small village he grew up in, so the image he once had in his mind was no longer so clear.
-His mother was a person he'd eventually seek advice from regarding such tender subjects, earning himself a laugh occasionally, as his cluelessness was rather amusing. Where other Kings misused their power and gave commands as they saw fit, Jiyan exercised caution, and even sympathy for the bride he didn't even have yet.
-Eventually, a match was arranged, between him and a lady of a higher birth. His mother had met you before he did and vouched for your good character - but Jiyan remained nervous, vowing to keep his judgment and thoughts to himself until he met you himself.
-Your journey to the city was a long one, yet you entered the long and towering palace halls like a breath of fresh air. Keeping your lady wits about yourself and keeping your courtesies with you, you had quickly rubbed off on Jiyan. The wedding was still a matter of question, as Jiyan had insisted on giving you and your family the due time to explore the city and to see whether this was truly something they wanted to go through with. His compassion was answered in kind by many gifts sent from the city they hailed from, consisting of foreign fruits and vegetables to cattle and coins and silks.
-It was endearing. And the courtship between Jiyan and (Y/n) soon began, as the former began to make moves. He preferred to do so in some amounts of privacy, as the many eyes that followed him as King were uncomfortable and he swore he could never get used to them.
-This seemed to please and comfort his bride-to-be as well, and both of them would show their true colors. It was a rare thing for a royal match to be founded in love rather than simple responsibilities to make heirs, but it wasn't unheard of either.
-What they both had in common was that they were dragon riders. (Y/n)’s dragon was a stark comparison to his own with red scales and two pairs of black horns and dark amber eyes, the underside of the dragon’s wings being a shade of yellow that looked like gold under the sunlight. It was a terrifying dragon, arguably even more scary than his own mount.
-When no one was looking, the two would go down to the Dragon Pit and take their dragons to the skies, racing over the cities with one another or going over the seas to breathe the salty air. It was an escape from duty as well. The moment their dragons took to air, all status and responsibilities remained on the ground, and only the sky was the limit to their freedom.
-Jiyan relished in this freedom like a luxurious drink he could never tire of, and your laughter was a sound like no other.
-The dragons took to liking one another as well, and would dance in the air while the pair were seated on their backs, spinning and falling, and right before the ground came too close they'd pull away and take to the skies once more.
-The commonfolk took this as a good omen. The dragons ruled the skies again, and a good King was on the throne, with a good queen soon to join him.
-Jiyan would find himself inviting (Y/n) to his chambers in early mornings to break their fast together or late dinners to share their day with one another. It was as if the two were already married. And even that wasn't too far from coming true.
-The wedding was a big event. Tables and tents were set all the way out and around the keep as well as in the big ballroom inside. Although Jiyan would've preferred to keep the celebrations a modest one, the council insisted that this occasion warranted the eyes of everyone, the joy had to be shared. This once he gave in to their requests.
-Flower petals were thrown on them as they passed by the rows of commonfolk standing at the sides of the rode, him and his Queen riding at the back of an open carriage dragged by four horses, white and elegant with plumes in their manes. Everything was near perfect and out of a fairy tale.
-King and Queen would share their dance in the ballroom once they returned from the High Sept where they got married before the priest, sharing their first kiss - something Jiyan made sure to cover and hide to the best of his abilities by pulling your veil over both of your faces.
-The celebration lasted all the way into the eerie hours of the night. And both Jiyan and you were exhausted, and upon retiring to your shared bed chamber you simply collapsed onto the plush mattress.
-That night, Jiyan fell asleep with his lover in his arms, watching your soft breaths make your chest rise and fall in slow successions, his fingertips tracing the lines of your face and the skin of your back, until he couldn't resist the urge to sleep.
-This wasn't a life Jiyan asked for…but it was one he was glad for.
-Children came later. A lovely little daughter being the first to be born of the love from the King and Queen, bearing the signature feature of you. Jiyan was beyond happy.
-During the birth of his daughter he was in the city, conducting business over a new architecture project when news arrived that his Queen had gone into labor. It is believed he had never dropped a matter as quickly as he did that day, racing back to the keep and searching for his wife.
-Despite the protests of the midwives, he responded only to you, racing to your side and giving you comfort and encouragement if nothing else, welcoming the fruit of your shared love together. It was the first time Jiyan ever cried in front of anyone else. He had delegated some more of his duties to the others in favor of having the time to spend with his newborn and you, helping you recover from the birth.
-It wasn't rare to see Jiyan roaming the dark halls in the middle of the night to visit the kitchens for food for you, bringing back foods and snacks, whatever you wished, even the weird food cravings. Hell, sometimes he'd indulge in them alongside you. Once, during your first pregnancy you requested a big honeycomb, and it just happened Jiyan felt like a sweettooth that evening as well. That ended with you sharing quite a candid moment, lips sticky with honey with a waxy feel between your teeth as you tried not to laugh at one another.
-The second pregnancy was a boy, following two years after the daughter was born, and he came with a little more trouble. The new prince was quite a big baby, and the birth left you even more exhausted. A fever soon settled within you, greatly worrying Jiyan and the entire council. You could barely hold the boy to feed him without shaking, and the fever lasted for days.
-It was the scariest time of Jiyan’s life. Any moment spent away from you plunged a dagger into his heart that twisted itself further in. It pained him. And he nearly got sick himself from worry.
-There were maids around you constantly, when he couldn't assist you it was them that took care of you. His mother was close by as well, bringing you great herbal teas and green tea cakes and broths. The time for you was a blur, filled with uncomfortable heat of your body and sticky feelings of sweat.. does it ever end?
-It was as if the whe world was plunged into depression once you fell ill. Dark clouds corresponded with Jiyan’s bitter and grieving mood, and the dragons themselves were restless. In this time, the others, outside of his kingdom, saw it fit to attack and plunder the neighboring villages and cities.
-You had recovered enough to talk, but your days were still mostly spent by sleeping and eating.
-You could vaguely remember seeing Jiyan entering your chamber, holding your son for a short while before putting him back in his crib. A concerned look pinched his brows together, you could remember, as his gaze went to you.
- “My love?... Are you alright?” He'd ask as he kneeled by the side of your bed, taking your hand in both of his and kissing the knuckles that felt like they were ablaze underneath his lips. He was dressed in all armor, a sword at his hip. Why was he leaving?.. Where?
-It all seemed like a dream, an illusion borne from your illness, but it was real. He had a duty over the kingdom, and over you. Yet it pained him no less to leave the place he was closest to you. He had entrusted your care to his mother and the maids, and he had already bid farewell to your daughter. She had clung to him like a moss clings to a tree, asking him when he'd return.
-You couldn't give a reply, staring somewhere through him.
-Has the reign of peace perished so quickly?
-His dragon waited at the Dragonpits, and the troops were already marching out of the city gates when he took to fly over them, leading them to the front lines once more.
-You recovered in the following days, finding yourself alone - not literally, as there were maids and servants all flocking to you, but Jiyan wasn't there. His Hand sat the throne instead of him. And your children had grown significantly, as if years had passed instead of several days.
-Responsibilities choked you until you began to move, throwing yourself back into work and and duty. Your son was always at your hip or breast, making up for the time lost. And your daughter was always pulling at your skirts unless she was at her lessons.
-It was a restless period, and a terrifying one. The first letter you sent to Jiyan was met with an ecstatic response, him being overjoyed you were healthy again, yet he encouraged you to rest more.
-His other letters brought bitter news of losses and bloodshed and treason, but he reassured they were holding strong. You could only believe him.
-Months passed. Months. And a letter from Jiyan was yet to come in. It worried you. This everlasting silence, it was of more concern than the sorrowful letters.
-During one evening as you sat on one of the tall balconies of the palace, overlooking the city as your son cooed in your arms, you heard a shriek. One coming from your dragon in the Dragonpits. The dragon was as restless as you, her calls weren't foreign to hear, but this time her shriek was returned by a call of another.
-Your husband's dragon flew down from the murky clouds. The green dragon roared, splitting the sound mid air, earning another roar from your own dragon.
-Jiyan has returned.
-You’re unsure how you raced so quickly down to meet him, with a babe in your arms and not properly dressed either. Appearances didn't matter. Your husband's return did. He mattered.
-And once you saw one another, nothing else could hold you back from running into eachother’s arms, the baby carefully tucked between the two of you in a protective embrace as Jiyan kissed both of your heads, pressing his forehead against yours soon after, laughter shaking his shoulders and chest.
-He was sure he could cry right now, and seeing you shed tears of joy almost encouraged him.
-Jiyan knew he'd split the world in half if it meant keeping you whole and with him.

hello! could you do a Jiyan beginning to somewhat develop draconic traits out of the blue and their s/o helping him through it, like, tail & horns popping out, growing canines, enhanced senses and unconsciously exhibiting a few behaviors like being more protective and practicing courting rituals for his s/o despite them already being his wife + bonus if some other character or the city takes notice of this ^^
A/n: Hope you like this anon, this was a really cute idea, thank you for requesting! <3
Contents: Jiyan x Reader, gn reader, the reader is referred to as Jiyan's wife, Baizhi cameo lol, fluff, a tiny bit suggestive if you squint
“What’s this?” Your fingers grasp his cheek and turn his head to the side, taking a closer look to the light sheen his skin held now, taking a moment to realize those are scales. Jiyan’s golden eyes looked at you in surprise, his pupils shrinking before dilating when your warmth seeped into his skin. A small throaty ‘hm’ came from him as you inspected him.
“It’s.. nothing.. Just something I woke up with today, but nothing to stir concern” he replied, his hand laying on top of yours and bringing the palm to his lips to kiss before letting you go. It was true, he already had formed scales on his other cheek from before, three little petal-shaped things that were so smooth you could barely feel them apart from his own skin.
You didn’t press further, only nodding and going along with your morning routine with him.
-It was later when other things began to form that you asked again, ‘what is this?’ and Jiyan began to feel less and less secure in his answers
-It started off with those scales spreading to other parts of his body - his forearms, shins and lower back. They were faded and not as noticeable, and most of those he could hide underneath his uniform too
-Next came the sharper teeth. He usually had a sharper set of canines, but this noticeable change nearly cost him his tongue while eating. And when he was playfully nipping your neck when you were making dinner and he came to hug you from behind. They made you wince, and he immediately backed off, concerned
-Horns and tail were something Jiyan had expected at this rate, yet he was shocked nonetheless to be woken up by you shaking his shoulders, saying how something was squeezing your leg - that something being this newly formed tail of his. As he went to sit up he could see you looking at him with your jaw slack as you stared at the top of his head, the two pretty horns sitting elegantly even in face of your shock.
“Are you going to say this is nothing again?” “.......”
-It was worrying at first, since neither of you knew whether this was some bad omen or just a side effect of his resonance abilities. If these were some signs pointing to a potential overclocking, which was a thought that most scared you, then it’d be best to have them checked out by a professional
-It would be the first time Jiyan’s usual demeanor failed him, and he proved rather stubborn in accepting your offer of going to see Baizhi, or any other doctor for that matter - Mortefi? His mother? - anyone! Yet, what he opted to do was grumble and curl up in the bed, his long tail training after him like a big snake.
-Fed up with this new behavior from your lover, and worried all the way to your bones, you called Baizhi in, promising to pay her double if she just gave a house visit - Baizhi was understanding and never intended to refuse your request anyway, and your hastiness and pleas only urged her to stop by sooner.
-One thing is certain when she saw Jiya - she was taken aback and lost for words.
-You’tan, her loyal companion, would curiously look at Jiyan, its pearl-like eyes staring at him as its big fluffy body flew around him.
-Jiyan was rather grumpy during the entire check up, his pupils like that of a cat with slits for pupils, his hands forming a fist in his lap. This was nothing short of irritating for him - and confusing. Why was he acting like this? He never found Baizhi’s presence so unbearable before, but he tried to reason that by saying that this was his house, and naturally anyone would feel a little imposed on if someone entered their home, where they were their most vulnerable arguably
-Baizhi didn’t have too many answers for you, but could say that this was nothing fatal or dangerous, her companion also found nothing that could indicate anything deteriorating within Jiyan.
-Relieved, but filled with no more clarity than before, you walked Baizhi out the door after the check up before returning to Jiyan who still sat at the edge of the bed, his darkened eyes glaring at you as you entered
-The tip of his tail flicked back and forth in frustration, but you only huffed in return, scolding him for his stubbornness, asking whether there was something that happened on the battlefield he didn’t confide in you for - but as a response all you got was being pulled into his lap.
-He noses at your neck, inhaling your scent as his arms wrap around your midriff, just happy to feel you close to him again. He sighs in relief, his face not moving from the juncture of your neck, and his tail waves from side to side on top of the bed, showing satisfaction and mirth, while also making a mess of the bed sheets.
-You question him again, pulling back just enough to look down at him as you sit in his lap, but Jiyan spends little time in moving down to put his chin on your chest, looking up at you, and although it was a little awkward for his neck he didn’t complain or show any signs of discomfort. He only gave you a small smile before kissing under your chin
“Nothing.. I’m fine, did you not hear what Baizhi said?.. If you ask me, this will pass soon enough. Might enjoy it while it lasts, no?”
-The rest of the morning was spent curled up with him, your limbs intertwined and his tail around your body in one way or another, cuddling closer and closer and closer still until he could nuzzle his cheek against yours or kiss over your shoulders or neck again
-During the time you were cooking, he proved quite clingy too, but then he’d randomly disappear somewhere within the house only to return with the wedding ring.
“You forgot to put this on” “Hm, but I’m cooking, I don’t want to get it dirty” you respond, your brows furrowed as you kneaded some bread dough, your eyes catching a look of hurt on his face and disappointment. Jiyan sighed and nodded before setting the ring on the dining table. “You can put it on afterwards then” he replies and comes up behind you, putting his chin on your shoulder before his hands sneak underneath your to knead the dough for you. You gave a huff of a chuckle, as he effortlessly trapped you in his embrace here.
-Jiyan didn’t wish to leave the house, not wanting people to see this changed appearance. There were enough gossips about him already and he didn’t need more spreading about. But he wasn’t opposed to sitting in the backyard, soaking in the sun alongside you. The fence was high enough to protect from any wandering eyes.
-If you were to sit in the chair and doze off, you’d come back to Jiyan, assorting little tiny rocks of various colors long your thigh, balancing them on in little columns or in a simpler pattern, smiling at you innocently when you look at him.
-This… dragon version of your lover was slowly growing on you.. You had to wonder if he could control this appearance, or if it will return again after it disappears?

Could I request Jiyan's s/o taking ng care of him while he's sick?
A/n: Sorry for waiting so long on this, I'm slowly making my way through the request now. I hope you enjoy this! <3
Contents: Jiyan x gn reader, Jiyan is called husband(hehe), sweet nicknames from Jiyan to reader, fluff, grammar mistakes probably
“My dear, I have told you time and time over-” A cough rippled through him, dry and scratching at his throat raw. Jiyan was rather adamant at getting his message across, however, and when the cough settled with you soothing up his back with your palm, he turned to you again “I don’t need pampering” he said, but his flushed face and sweaty forehead told another tale. One more true than he would tell it.
“You’ll sooner convince me the sky's neon yellow rather than that - although I’d hardly call it pampering, Jiyan” you told him briskly, fed up with this demeanor. Just this morning he had snuck out of bed to take care of himself, and were it not for his stumbling he might’ve gotten away with it. It was past breakfast now, and you had not only cooked for him the most rich broth you knew of, but you managed to break the feverish General into following your orders, although not without some remark from him. “Now sit back, I’m going to bring you something to cool you off with” this time your voice is softer, your eyes mellowing out as you reach out to tuck the stray hairs from his face, not missing the way he softly sighed. His golden eyes half lidded and heavy, tired to the bone, but all his bones knew was battle. You couldn’t fault him for trying to do it on his own nor for being so stubborn.
“Fine..” Jiyan replied with yet another heavy sigh that deflated his lungs, slumping his figure against the bedframe he rested against. His heavy lids fell over his eyes, and when he next opened them you were dabbing his sweaty forehead with a cool washcloth. He must have dozed off, he thinks to himself, blinking languidly as his eyes drink in you like honey, too thick to be drunk swiftly, yet not lacking for sweetness.
“What is it?” you ask him as he keeps on staring, something heavy about his eyes bringing your attention to him, for a moment granting him that sweet treat of your gaze on his own. He takes a deep breath in and then exhales, his words failing him.
He doesn’t want to touch you either, as the fever filled him from his head down to the tips of his fingers, and any touch would mean to him as if he had cut you. He wets his lips with a quick dart of his tongue before he shakes his head, all his movement slow as if he weighs twice more than he did. “Nothing..”
You scoff at him, not taking his words seriously. “It seems as if the fever has gotten to you more than I thought. Has it eaten away at your brain?” you shake your head as you dip the cloth in the cold water besides you before sliding it across his cheek and down to his neck. At that he gave a hiss, the cold cloth a stark contrast to his burning skin. It sent his muscles stiffening and begging for the offending feeling to be removed, but Jiyan knew it was for the better as he grit his teeth through it.
Sighing after you removed the cloth from his neck and collarbone, you moved to cup his hands and bring them around the cloth, hoping the coolness of it will get to him and ease his fever. You’ve given him medicine plenty, food as well, drinks he would grow sick of even more if you insisted he drink anything, so you moved to these small things to help him.
“You’re doing too much, my love..” he rasps, looking at you as you help hold his hands around the cloth.
“I am not doing too much. I am taking care of my husband..” you told him, tone easy and undertones of affection hugging close, apparent to Jiyan’s ears. It made him chuckle, shaking his chest that felt as if it would cave in on him if he dared laugh more, but he laughed regardless in face of your attempts to not seem too dotting. Yet you failed enormously, showing your worry in the most quiet ways of being loud. Hovering over him, never being too far. It was amusing at least.
“Right.. is that what you’d call what you’ve been doing in the last hour or so? You’re acting as if I’ve escaped famine and I’m dying in your arms.. My love, I will be alright. I just need a long rest, that is all..” he tries to reason with you, to ease your worries if nothing else. He removes one hand from your hold and puts it over yours. It’s warm, radiating heat like a hearth nearby, your own hand seems nearly cold in comparison.
“Then how about you stop moving so much, just.. lay back, and go sleep. I’ll go fix you something for dinner”
“Beloved, I’ve eaten too much already, just half an hour ago you had me eat another plate of that broth, and it is not even 12 o’clock... But I’ll rest, alright?”
You sigh at him, a touch irritated but you appreciate his attempts to help you too in your worried stupor to help him. “Fine. But if I see you or hear you shuffling about, you’ll come to regret it. You’ll hate me more than this fever of yours” This time it is you cracking small smiles, although you turn your head and tilt your nose into the air, acting ignorant of the smile.
Jiyan smiles back, nodding his head. “I hear you loud and clear..” he responds, voice mellow even more.
“In the meantime.. I will go out and run an errand or two. Maybe stop by the market, bring you something sweeter than a broth to eat before you complain that you are tired of it”
Jiyan knows there is no stopping you now. If you decided to go pluck lemon grass from the top of the highest mountain, he knew he’d be helpless to stop you. “That sounds fine with me. But don’t stay too long in the sun, unless you want to lay in this sickbed next to me”
“I’ll be alright. The sun can’t get to me so easily. Now, you rest” reluctantly you peel your hands away from his grasp, leaving the washcloth between his fingers and you leave the bucket of cool water close by too, should he feel the need for it. You lean closer, and before he could reject it, although he lacked strength for it, you kissed his temple and stood upright. His eyes followed your movement, both grateful for the kiss and on the verge of scolding you.
“Sleep well, Jiyan. I’ll be back soon”

Sorry if this request is strange but I'm curious as to what you think Jiyan, Jinhsi, Geshulin and Mortefi would look like if they became dragons? What type of dragon would they be, how big and anything interesting!
Wuthering Waves characters as dragons!
A/n: YESSSSSSSS. Worry not anon, your request is not strange at all! I did give myself go to also visualize what I think they'd look like as dragons, along with some headcanons and a size chart at the end. I do hope you like this :) please enjoy my mind worms talking about the dragon hyperfixation lol All art here was done by me, do not use without permission/credit
Contents: Dragon Wuwa characters, Jiyan, Geshu Lin, Jinhsi and Mortefi x reader (separate), fluff, a bit of angst if you squint really hard, grammar mistakes probably bc I'm like that
Jiyan:
-Jiyan is one of the bigger dragons, but his strength lies more so in endurance and perseverance rather than just brute strength
-His scales are smoother and look softer even, and when light passes over them they look a bit like fish scales with the way they glimmer
-Personality wise, as a dragon he is about the same as his human self, easy going and calm. Unless provoked or called to battle, you will scarcely ever see hostility from him, if ever at all. He does often linger near places where danger would be lurking, earning himself the title of a guardian very easily and early on. He just seems to have the sixth sense for trouble, and he can’t get himself to turn a blind eye to any suffering of his people
-Besides being battle ready and such, it is said his presence does have a calming aura with it, some dare say that it even heals the person to some extent. His scales, when ground up, have healing properties, and Jiyan does not lack generosity for that either.
-He has stepped into service of the territory as a young dragon, and a part of that youthful naivety still lingers in him, although he has grown wiser - he still blindly believes in that good of the world. One day it will all pass, the evil will be no more, and Jiyan will retrieve to some distant corner where, somewhere high up from where he can watch the lands and bask in the sun, all the past troubles now lost to memory
-His fur is really fluffy although a bit coarse to the touch, it protects him as much as it servers a more aesthetic side of his dragon. He takes good care of it, and doesn’t like it getting mangled. He gladly lets you help him with it too, if you have the strength to comb through all of it lol
-He does have a taste for swimming, both to remain clean but also active. He does running enough, and swimming is a fun activity that takes his weight off of his legs. However he does not like the sea, the salty water makes him icky
-The jewelry he wears and the armor was all gifted to him by important people in his life and fellow dragons, he wears them with pride and let’s them give him courage in trying times
-If you are a dragon too, or a human he values a lot and keeps close, he makes for a great cuddle buddy. He is long and when he curls up, it’s as if he made a bed in the middle of this little spiral for you to lay in. He is very peaceful and really likes the time spent with you.
-If you are a human and he is in this giant dragon form, he acts as if you’re an ant underfoot, which honestly you are, seeing how tiny you are compared to his claws alone, and he is quite worried he may hurt you or god forbid step on you
-He steps around you gingerly, always having an eye out for you so he knows where not to step or trudge to close to
-Preferably he’d have you riding on his back or on top of his head, there’s more than enough space there
-Seeing as he is a dragon most of the time, doing his work, it is rare you’ll catch him in his human form a lot, but when you do he relishes in your touch. Nuzzling in your neck and breathing in your scent as if he was starved of it.
Geshu Lin:
-A war dragon through and through. Born and bred for battle.
-Although his species is related to Jiyan and Jinhsi's, he does share similar features to the winged dragons of the New Federation. Tough scales and spikes line his entire body, acting as both a weapon and a shield to himself against other enemies. His body is lined with scars and scratches, old and new, displaying his long years of service and experience in battle.
-He has half of a whisker missing on his left side
-The jewelry he wears is a memorial of people he long lost in battle, although some believe he also looted the pieces of another dragon he triumphed over in war.
-He is a formidable beast and willful, he’s not someone to be trifled with. Some say he has learned to manipulate flames on the battlefield. But whether that is true or not, everyone has grown to fear the pale beast of Jinzhou.
-Due to his long years spent on the battlefield he has become an uneasy individual to be with or hold a conversation with, and his nights are often plagued with unrest or nightmares, he can never seem to rest easy. Only battle can make his mind escape the troubles of his other days, and for a little while it all seems to make the world stop - and he can finally breathe again
-Due to this, the medics that were close enough to realize this, suggested he wears protective amulets and papers with prayer written onto them in hopes that such would ease his mind. Time is yet to tell if these ever worked, or if Geshu Lin was touched by this moment of care from others
-It is said you were the only one that could bring him peace of mind, even if all you did was simply linger in the camp or near him. Geshu Lin did have a knack for always beckoning you close - just sit beside him, it will be enough. Sometimes you two would take to a more secluded place in the mountains, still overlooking the battlefield, but far away so no one could see. And he’d lay down, his body falling and rumbling through the ground while he exhaled heavily. He naps, letting you do as you please. If you wish to sit on his back he is not one to deny it, or if you want to sleep beside him, all the better. He has full confidence he can and will defend you if someone dares to sneak up on you two
-Geshu Lin rarely goes back to his human form. He has grown to dislike how weak that vessel can be, and how little it can do for the war cause, so he has all but abandoned it.
-If he does return back to human form, it would be to pass through some tunnel most likely than not, or to talk to some human captain back in the city on the rare occasions he goes back for meetings or to give his report. He is more grumpy in this form, he doesn’t like it - it makes him feel weak. People have learned to respect this side of him, although some genuinely fear him too and keep their distance away from him at all cost
-During one particular battle where even he was overwhelmed, he disappeared, leaving behind a long, thick trail of blood and fallen enemies to litter each end of the battlefield, but no one ever found him, no matter how much they followed the red line. It was odd for such a giant beast to simply vanish. Some speculated he died, but others argued that if he was truly dead, his remains would have been found by now. So, now he makes for a great ghost tale among the people. Some say that if you go to an old battlefield, you can hear his growling and snarling underneath the cracked and blood soaked earth
Jinhsi:
-Most beloved of dragons and, as the word has it, the most powerful among the dragons. She may not be as big as the battle dragons of the land, or most formidable looking, but do not let looks deceive you. She has protected her lands in her own ways, and none of them were easy
-She does not lack in wisdom and knowledge, but to her closest companions she did express doubt over her capabilities on a handful of occasions.
-Jinhsi looks like the embodiment of the snowy mountains and the glaciers that can be found around Mt. Firmament. Soft flowing fur that hugs her neck like a thick mane, and the long tuft of fur on her tail is faded to a blue. Sometimes, people say they can see snowflakes on her fur, flowing from it and melting when they touch the ground
-She often floats instead of walking, holding an air of elegance and regality about her wherever she goes. Her claws are faded gold and she has two golden stars on top of her forehead, the third one hidden underneath the fur
-The people often do bring gifts as offerings to her, some which she declines if she sees the person offering it needs it more than she does.
-During the year she will descend down to her land of people and bring her own gifts - sometimes a few days of cool air during summer droughts, or easier snows during long winters, other times she only brings her presence when the people feel uneasy due to wars happening outside the borders. A lot of times she holds an audience in the main plaza, giving her advice to the towns people and even travelers from distant lands
-Jinhsi assists in the war mostly by gaining intelligence, giving strategies to the generals and captains, and while she does know how to fight, she saves her strength for the city, should all outside forces fall.
-She is one made for solitude, or at least that is the nature of her duty, and not many people actually see her face-to-face or outside of her duty which seems to be never ending, 24/7
-She rarely sleeps, and some say she doesn’t even need to sleep. Her Grace only needs the love and trust of her people to give her strength - or so the tale would say
-She is still young in terms of dragon years, but for her age she has grown a lot. Her scales are still soft, smooth running across her pale body.
-She doesn’t often let anyone near her den, which the people have decorated so beautifully with gifts, gems, silk and much more. She would let you in, secretly during the night when you both can have the reprieve of the watchful eyes of guards or civilians. She lets you talk, listening attentively as she rests her worn body
-She purrs in her sleep sometimes, long soft groans in her throat that seem like a bunch of gentle bees caught and wrapped in cotton and linen and then pressed to your ear to help you sleep.
-She doesn’t often go in her human form, much like Geshu Lin - it makes her vulnerable. And as someone of high status as her, it would be wise to avoid any vulnerability. She’d rather not risk being caught unaware with a blade in her heart or at her throat
-In human form she seems to be more slow in her movement, perhaps due to not using the vessel so much or due to exhaustion the long years of duty have taken upon her, but she is aware of every sound around her and often knows you are there before you even announce yourself
Mortefi:
-A rare dragon in these lands, as not many New Federation dragons can be found so far from their home. They aren't nomads by any means, and prefer to stick to their land of origin.
-Yet, Mortefi is unlike what gossip would describe him or his kind as. Fanatical and obsessive over technology, that part he shares in common with his peers, but he is nowhere near as greedy. He does not hoard his knowledge in a pile, hiding away from the people for all eternity, nor is he as aggressive as his kind usually is, especially to strangers.
-While he truly is a loner, having made himself a home far from the central city and keeping it tidy and perfect for his high standards, he doesn’t shy from contact if he runs into someone else
-He’d much rather he didn’t run into them, but what does he have to be scared of? His scales can barely be pierced and fire does him no harm, what could anyone do to him? And conversation he doesn't fear either. It is unlike that someone knows something he doesn't already, but a little bit of back and forth hurt no one.
-He is the only one here to breathe fire, and his flames are strong red with streaks of orange. Geshu Lin does have some power of manipulating purple flames but they don't seem to have the same source, he doesn't breathe fire like Mortefi.
-He has quite a lot of witty remarks if some curious wanderer stops by his territory, and eventually he chases them off with his banter as the other person simply can’t handle his jargon and analogies - some even directed at them
-What some don’t know though, is that Mortefi has kept guard over the most naive and vulnerable ones of their community. The children that returned to the cities and villages after being lost for days, only returned when he found them. Often with a little trinket in hand. He may not like the adults as much, but children he can’t fault for their naive outlook on the world or their curiosity. He was once a child too, full of wonder and spark that he believes he lost, he hasn’t felt it in years. His own upbringing left a hole in his chest, that spark once filled that hole, but now it’s gone
-He doesn’t like when people enter his abode, and he likes it even less when they touch his things. Those may be the only times you see him be so enraged - he has quite the specific way of sorting things, you see, and he keeps it all clean too, so don’t touch it. He hasn’t spent so long sorting it all out, building his craft and honing his skills just for you to put it out of place
-In terms of size, at the present he is the smallest of the dragons listed here, but he is awfully slow growing. Longevity is one of the qualities that marks his kind, so this isn’t out of place for him. He will grow, but it will take long years to get to the size some of his elders in the New Federation are at.
-Mortefi is someone who indulges in his human form more than any other, preferring human hands to do his experiments than his big dragon claws, although both have their merit in their own ways
-He works quickly, and long nights are often spent at the table of his abode, making yet another craft, be it for the children or for his own self-given quests for knowledge
-He does keep you away while he is working, but ever since you wormed your way into his heart, he could never keep you too far off. He can feel you lingering nearby, watching him work sometimes, and he doesn’t mind. He also realizes how happier he is to explain his process when you ask, the hole in his chest slowly being made full once more
Size chart:
Geshu Lin is the biggest of them all, but Jiyan isn't too far behind
Jinhsi is bigger than Mortefi although Mortefi has more mass to him, he is very chunky

How about Jiyan with a fellow doctor but the doctor is kind of like Mortefi in terms of "tired of everyone's shit" but they put up with Jiyan because they used to be coworkers.
A/n: Overdue request time but I hope you enjoy this regardless anon <3
Contents: Jiyan x GN reader, headcanons, reader used to be on the front lines with Jiyan, not proof read
-Jiyan has worked with all sorts of people in his life, and at times he was rather forced to work with people that were not fit to be in the workplace, but he was never harsh on them even if he had to take up their work too.
-That, however, was not the case with you, of course
-You were beyond capable in your work, jumping from one end to the other never seemed as effortless when you were the one doing the task - all with this signature scowl or a furrow of your brows on your face.
-Jiyan admired you for your talent and skill, it seemed to come so naturally to you that it made even the famous General push himself harder with newfound strength in his chest
-He knew you weren't too fond of being “pestered”, so he never approached you much beyond work while you were on the front lines. It was when you were back around town when he approached you for off topic conversations or to exchange medical knowledge and aid techniques. You both found common ground in the latter topics, and you weren't too reciprocating at first when it came to other topics.
-But all good things require time and patience, and Jiyan was a patient man by nature.
-You slowly warmed up to him and began to share more of your life and interests, and Jiyan shared his side as well. Both of you got to know each other through countless walks beside the river banks or the beaches of the lake around Jinzhou.
-Jiyan provided that much needed slow pace you seemed to lack. To you, everything needed to be done in some orderly fashion and in a confined space of time. Your solo walks were rather quick, but ever since Jiyan began joining you on them, you found the sense of time slipping by and half an hour turned into an hour, then two, three-
-Dinners began to be another thing to look forward to. Sometimes he'd invite only you, sometimes he'd invite another captain or soldier; once you met his mother when he invited her over for dinner at this fancy restaurant that opened while both of you were on the front lines
-Jiyan can easily overlook the jabs and witty remarks you tend to drop, knowing you truly don't harbor any malice when you say them - it's more of spur of the moment when the situation is rather tense or if someone is acting particularly oblivious/stupid.
-Sometimes, if it's just you and him, he tends to flip the jabs back at you to initiate some more lighthearted banter. The first time he did it you were caught by surprise but your tongue certainly didn't lack in words. Jiyan chuckled at how you nearly stumbled over your own mouth as you returned another comment, looking rather flustered.
-He does enjoy having you around and does tend to put you in teams that are close to his own, unless another team requires your skill more in battle.
-Somewhere along those lines, the feeling between colleagues and friends blurred and seeped into something much warmer and stronger. And it appears you felt it too. By that point Jiyan had become adept at reading you, and he didn't miss the way your shoulders were tensed when he lingered too close, or when you refused to meet his gaze here and there, when even you lacked words to respond with, when you were fidgeting with your gourd or fingers- it all piled up, boiling just underneath the surface.
-His feelings did not extinquish when you left the Midnight Rangers to serve your duty in the city. Your research and heart strayed from his path and he was fine with that - even if he felt like you took half of him with you
-He didn't wish to risk anything between the two of you, so the feeling was boiling for a long time. Jiyan didn't wish to confess in case he wasn't right and you didn't return the feelings, but also because he didn't wish to risk leaving you alone should he die in battle right after confessing and asking for your hand.
-You didn't confess for similar reasons, but also because he was a General - you didn't wish to burden him in any form or shape. And what if you were reading it wrong? What if he was simply being affectionate as a friend?
-It took time, but the feelings reached a boiling point after an incident left you so lost and frustrated.
-You and Jiyan were alone in your office and it all came pouring out in a torrent of emotions from your mouth. And by the time you realized what you said, Jiyan was quiet and looking at you all speechless
-Jiyan couldn't breathe, but he felt his heart squeezing into his throat.
-He is soon to stumble over his words to reassure you it's fine- you were already making up excuses, apologizing, stumbling further - it's fine! Hear him out, he has a lot to say. And it's going to be alright, because you're besides one another, and you are stronger that way.

Midnight thought that popped into my head… If you watched Spirited Away, do you remember a bunch of little black soot balls that carried coal around? What if the reader also works at the academy and has made herself a bunch of those little robots to fetch tools when she needs them? Imagine working on something with these little goofballs running around, making high-pitched robot noises and being useful at the same time, what a dream. The second part is, what if some of them started running to Xiangli Yao's office (and Academy too) to get tools (screwdrivers, hammers, etc.) because they couldn't find them in our office due to some errors (or some other reason)? Which led to a funny little investigation of missing items? Honestly saw it as already established relationship, but could be used as push-to-confession maybe? Can definitely see something like this: -My little babies would never steal! -Your… babies? -Erm, never mind…
Honestly, use this however you like if you do, the possibilities are endless and fun, no matter how you twist it, I have just come up with an example.
A/n: this was awfully sweet, but even with that I didn't imagine it would turn out this long. I do hope this is what you had in mind. I really enjoyed writing this. And hey, first Xiangli Yao fic! Yipeeee
Contents: Xiangli Yao x Reader, she/her pronouns, fluff
Words: 4221
Steel Hearts
Little pitter-patters of feet echo down the empty corridor, the sound accompanied by the low mechanical buzz that could be said to be a coo or a call. Xiangli Yao had yet to get used to the new tiny companions around the Academy, although they made for an endearing sight when they got together to work. Xiangli Yao steps to the side of the corridor, slowing down his step as he notices a few Aideroids rush past diligently, carrying a few empty petri dishes, box of gloves and some unlabeled material samples. He tilted his head as they passed by, clicking and clacking without paying him any mind, like a line of ants as they made it straight for their queen - you. It would seem that the confusion of the recent incidents at the Academy have rubbed off on the Aideroids as well, otherwise known as Assistive Intelligence Droids, judging by how scattered they seemed after your own office has been subjected to a little... disaster, to put it plainly. It has pushed you to share an office with your colleague until the renovations are done, and while you had adjusted well, the little droids would always stop by the old office or by his own next to yours before finding you at last.
Xiangli Yao admired them and once he had run into a droid in the corner of his office that had gone down due to battery problems. He had fixed it up for you then. The droids weren’t admirable by looks alone, but by their design as well with their creator behind them. Although they seemed to be a nuisance of a sight for Mortefi, even he commented on their usefulness. The only thing everyone was against was to make them capable of flight. You agreed that the sight of so many droids buzzing about wouldn’t be quite comfortable.
He continued on into his office, looking over the report he had yet to finish, one he was looking forward to writing out. The half done pages reeked of promise and satisfaction, as they would come to represent the best part of the job in Xiangli Yao’s eyes. The end, the fruits of his labor. He hummed something low in his throat as he glimpsed an error in his grammar, making a mental note to fix it up later as he swung the door open and closed it behind it, failing to notice that the door had been creaked open already. Muscle memory brings his feet to his desk, and as he goes to put his papers down he is greeted by several singular eyes looking up at him, all scattered on and around his desk. He blinks at them in surprise, and for a moment they mirror his confusion and shock in equal measure, but as no command or response comes from his mouth, they swiftly return to their ‘work’ at his tools. One Aideroid was carrying the rubik's cube he liked to keep in his office, oftentimes fidgeting with it when he came into a slump during work hours. The Aideroid chucked it over the edge of the desk with a ‘kahooo’ and another similar sound came from below, where another droid caught the cube. Another droid was already halfway to the door with screwdrivers and small container of oil he uses to treat his prosthetic arm - had the door been unlocked, the little droid would have managed to escape the office with Yao’s belongings.
“Hey, hey, hey- now, little friend. It seems you have plans for my things-” he speaks to the droid with a light laugh in his tone as he manages to pluck back the oil and screwdrivers from its clasping hands before it could truly clasp down. “Has Miss. (L/N) been in such desperate need of oil that she sends you to take mine?”
The droid looks up at him and the lenses of its eye narrow and zoom in on the towering figure of Xiangli Yao, yet, ever loyal and determined to assist you, the droid lets out a disgruntled beeping sound, almost like a little howl. Its arms stretched upward, waiting for the tools to be given back to its hold.
“Ah, no, my friend. I’m afraid I cannot give you these back” he says and turns towards the desk just as the droid carrying his cube walks by, and Yao swiftly takes the cube back as well, and then the microscope from the next droid, and a few pencils from the next few. By the time he’s up to his desk again, he feels as if he went through an attempted robbery, his arms full of his things and behind him he hears several voices of dissatisfied and demanding droids. He holds onto his lighthearted demeanor, a gentle and amused smile plastered over his lips as he sets back his belongings on his desk and back onto the shelves. “Miss. (L/n) would not want you to rob her colleagues, would she now? I know you don’t like returning to her with empty arms, but I can’t be giving you my own research and tools so easily” he tells the droids as if they’re a bunch of kids and for a moment he expects to be greeted with more protests as the droids all but stare at him in grave silence. Thankfully they do not pose more verbal danger, and scatter to climb onto one another and skillfully open the door before moving out again. Xiangli Yao can only stare at the space they occupied, still trying to acknowledge what has just happened. He was about to shake the thoughts of before he remembered the droids he passed in the corridor, now realizing the tools and materials they carried were his.
______________________________________________________
Black bolded letters lined every page, and page after page you scanned the book for the chapter you needed to fuel your brain for power which you desperately needed for this experiment. You sigh in disappointment as you find the chapter of your favorite book ripped out, leaving the next chapter as some distant tale you were yet to understand. You close the book with a thump and push it aside, returning to another set of letters on your research paper and the propped up tubes and test tubes and cylinders before you. Testing biological matter and the effects of the Waveworn Phenomena on them came with its limitations, but for all of those you managed to achieve quite a few breakthroughs in the last few years.
You found yourself just short of other achievements, it was just an arms reach away yet you were stuck. Not understanding where you began to go over the same papers again, going through numbers, chemical formulas and the hypothesis at the start, but the important puzzle piece was yet to be revealed to your mind. The sound of small feet do not alarm you as they buzz behind you and move about the office. They came and went the entire day, bringing you your torn book and some other less important things at the moment, yet you acknowledged their need to be of help- it was in their code. Just like animals which flee or fight naturally when confronted with danger, the Aideroids wanted to help when confronted with your frown and furrowed brows. They knew something was amiss, so by bringing you all the tools and materials you previously praised them for, their droids’ minds hoped to see and hear the praise once more to know their daily task had been fulfilled. Yet, the last few days have been filled with your stagnant moods with not a sweet word in sight. The loss of the comforts of your own office was palpable even with the adjustments you’ve made - nothing can beat having your own space to do with as you please.
Your head hands low over the papers, forehead resting on your clasped palms as you let your eyes close. Searching for the answer deep in your mind, you fail to see the way forward and your mind swiftly wanders to imagery of the open fields, summer days and your favorite food stalls. Aideroids made their way up the side of your desk, carrying the microscope between them in their strong little arms, and as they set it before you with a small thump, you looked up to see it, a look of confusion falling over your eyes. “Now, why have you brought me this, AIDE?” you ask the droid group who coo at you in unison. “I already have a functional microscope..” you added, sighing at their attempt to assist you with no success. But before you can reprimand them and ask whose microscope they’ve taken, you see more of the droids climb up the desk with a glove box and unmarked materials sealed in small boxes. At that you were a bit more alarmed. Sitting up straight in your chair you feel a wave of anxiety come over you as you’re made to guess whose research they just snagged up with no pardon. “AIDE, where did you get this?” you asked as you took one of the sample bags one of the droids offered you. You carefully unpacked it and took a quick look inside, a bit more relieved to find it was only dirt samples from god knows where. But the other baggies held materials you weren’t trying to mess with, judging by their looks alone through the translucent bag.
The droids coo and click, and on your watch monitor you can see the transcribed text that they were trying to convey.
‘Xiangli Yao’s office, Baizhi’s office’.
You had to physically stop yourself from face palming at the sentence. Your little helpful companions resorting to stealing from your fellow colleagues, one of them a renowned genius? You thank god that most of them have already left the Academy for the day, and others were on break.
“Please, give the rest of those to me… I’ll have to give you another code input, this can’t happen again - you can’t just take other people’s belongings” you gently scold while the many pairs of eye just look at you, mechanically blinking and adjusting their lenses as they try to comprehend why you didn’t like what they’ve done. You have already gathered the things they took, carefully cradling the items in your arms as you tell them to stay in the office while you go and return them - hoping to also clear your mind with this brisk walk.
You turn the corner from your current office, closing the door behind you and your mind is running, hoping your droids haven’t done any damage, even if you have put all the necessary codes into their system that avoided damaging things, but who's to say they can’t malfunction or accidentally push somethin or-
“Ah! Xiangli Yao!” you nearly squeal as you run into him when you turn to go down the corridor leaning to his office, and like a kid caught with their hand in the candy jaw, you flush with items that are obviously his in your arms. You take a few steps back to put a more professional and comfortable distance between the two of you. You swallow the lump in your throat, hoping the warmth you felt wasn’t as visible on your skin as you imagined it to be.
“Ah, Miss (L/N), it is you, and with quite an interesting assortment of things in tow” Yao greeted back, his eyes quickly catching on to the items in your hold, a warm smile pulling on his lips. “I was just about to pay you a visit. It would seem your Aideroids have been up to some mischief as of recent”
“Mischief?” you countered almost instantly, and be it fatigue or the knowledge that the droids weren’t mischievous by their nature, you almost took it as an insult. “Oh, you misunderstand. They aren’t mischievous, Xiangli Yao. They just.. need some code tuning” you added with a stubborn shake of your head, holding the items closer to your torso.
“Oh? And is that why they have resorted to taking my things without being given permission beforehand?” Yao retorted, his voice a warm honey. Was he teasing you?
You couldn’t muster up a laugh, your lips pressing together in a tight line out of some nervousness for feeling so cornered. “Xiangli Yao..” you began, sighing as you nearly trailed off - he had his point, yet you couldn’t let your little droids be subjected to any form of insults, even in jest! “That doesn’t mean they’re mischievous. Although their objective is flawed in execution, something I’ll have to fix later, I assure you they did not mean to deprive you of your own ability to conduct your work. This is why I have come to return your belongings by myself and.. apologies on their behalf - although the fault is also mine own for not having foreseen such a thing happening with them” you told him, nearly rushing through the entire sentence. “AIDE has told me some of these materials are also from Baizhi. Do you mind taking back the ones that are yours?”
Xiangli Yao looks on at you, letting you speak and he nods at the question. Did this make you so riled up, or was it him? He had to admit, he felt rather weak in his word arsenal now. This has in no way ruined his day, nor has he meant any offense to you with his quips. The interaction it all led to between the two of you felt sweet to his heart, as most encounters between the two of you during the day felt almost artificial, all work no soul chatter which he found himself craving to have with you. And both of you needed solo time to recharge, but now it felt like there was emotion behind it, there was a heart. Yao wasn’t about to simply let it go to waste. But what does he say to make you more at ease?
“Of course. Here, why don’t you come to my office, I’ll also help you sort the other items out that belong to Baizhi afterwards” he offered as he took back his things, and also some more to lighten your load as some seemed at the point of slipping past your fingers. “Your droids are quite skilled to unlock doors previously locked - have you taught them to pick at locks?” he asked, his tone genuine as well as he recalled an occasion where he overheard Mortefi complaining to you about AIDE ‘breaking into his office’.
You sigh at the memory. “No. I have not taught them any of that. Their objectives and codes only revolve around listening to my orders and helping me work, I genuinely don’t know where they got it to pick locks..” you tell him as you walk side by side to his office. His presence felt as if he was pressed right against your side, even if there was comfortable space between you, or perhaps that was just you overthinking the situation. Xiangli Yao’s company was always welcome, you wished your paths crossed more often during work, but alas..
“Admirable, really” Yao comments, looking up ahead and hastening his step to open the door with his elbow, leaving it wide open for you. You walk in and you can already tell AIDEs has been through here. Xiangli Yao sets down the items he had in his arms, returning the ones that belonged to him to their right place.
“Have..have they damaged anything of yours?” You cautiously asked as you looked around, almost expecting to see broken glass or torn papers.
“Oh no, they've done no harm. They were quite adamant on taking my things, however” he chuckles. “The group that I encountered in my office even wished to scold me for not allowing them to take the items back to you. Kahooting at me and beeping, heh. They even picked up the oil for my prosthetic” he said as he turned back to look at you, noticing how your brows curled in a worried expression, the cogs and wheels turning so loud he could nearly hear them from where he stood.
You sigh for the nth time, your shoulders slumping as you shake your head. “I'm really sorry for this, they really aren't like this. I'm assuming that the loss of my office, which was coded as their own ‘HQ’ , impacted them more than I imagined. They wouldn't do any of this otherwise “ You adjust the few small items in your arms, the sample bags stacked on top.
Xiangli Yao hums in acknowledgement. “I understand that. Thankfully, that is an easy fix until your office is done and ready for use again. I often see the little guys lingering in front of the locked doors of the office.. makes me think they’re rather sentimental about the place” he nodded thoughtfully, and as he talked he approached you again, taking the items from you even after you tried to give a word of protest.
“Although, I also have a suspicion it is not just the loss of their ‘HQ’ that is making them behave like this” Yao added as he motioned towards the door again, having you walk out first. You did as he requested, but you closed the door behind him before he could try to. You look at him quizzically, brows furrowed in confusion.
“What do you mean?”
“Well..the droids’ objective is to help you reach an end in your research or daily tasks, yes? Have you perhaps not been able to reach an end of your work that the droids' could physically see? This is just my hypothesis but..uhh..” he trails off as he notices the weight of your stare, his eyes going back to the path ahead, focusing on going to Baizhi’s office. Was he being too prodding?
You couldn't deny that his words held some water, but a part of you wasn't ready to simply say what you thought. The AIDE were a bunch of robots you created, scraps of metals and wires, and giving them any form of sentimental intelligence aloud felt wrong. Even if you treated them kindly and softly like puppies and cats countless times, you weren't going to risk being seen as soft and fragile in your workspace, in front of Yao no less. He wasn’t cold in any way, or unkind to either robots, people or animals - but you felt silly in your treatment of your helpful companions.
“Are you saying that the droids may have a.. small flaw in their system? Their code could use some fine tuning, that's for sure…” you replied, trailing off as you thought about it, relieving him of your gaze in the meantime.
“Yes, that is what seems most plausible, although I do not know their code as well as you do”
You nod and just shrug, too tired to think of inputting more codes and numbers, but you knew the task was unavoidable. “Yeah…I'll take a look at the codes once I'm back. Uh, you know where Baizhi keeps her things?”
“Not exactly in the way she has her things organized…but, we can just leave them in an orderly place. I can explain the situation to her in the morning for you, no worries” Xiangli Yao is about to hasten his step again but you make it a point to beat him to it, opening the door for him and keeping it open. You hear a huff of a laugh behind you but you do not immediately turn around to face him and see his expression. Yet when you do take a look, your heart jumps in your throat as he passes by you, giving you another one of his warm smiles.
You feel stiff compared to him, he who seems so carefree and professional.
“You don't have to do that on my behalf. I'll just talk to her myself” you slide in next to him above Baizhi’s desk. It looks rather empty with how well organized it looks. Papers piled neatly on one end next to the simple lamp, pens in their pen holder, a few other things carefully tucked over the desk but besides that, there was nothing else on the desk. Everything else had its place on the shelves or in the drawers. You have to hold back your awe at it, remembering how much of an ‘organized mess’ your desk is.
“It wouldn't be an inconvenience, Baizhi and I have a task we have to do together tomorrow,” Yao said as he sat the sample bags down along with the little boxes.
You find yourself not knowing what to say, and suddenly you feel as if you're standing too close for comfort, your neck feeling too warm and you decide to pace away, taking in the office - one you have probably visited before but that fact wasn't important right now.
“Coohoo, clack?”
You both turn around and see several eyes staring back at you around the doorframe.
Xiangli Yao chuckles as he sees that the little droids have, once again, managed to snag something of his to bring to you - this time the Rubik's cube from before. They murmur among themselves when they see him, and one at the front almost hisses when he approaches. The others rush in with the Rubik's Cube in tow, rushing straight to you.
“Ah- not again…” you grumble as you crouch down to welcome your rowdy robot children in, taking the cube away from them as they crowd around your feet and tug lightly at the tail of your coat. “I'm really sorry, Xiangli-”
“No, no, please, no need to apologize. Now that I look at this, I have a feeling they're trying to lift your spirits. Surely, AIDE realizes a Rubik’s Cube has no other use but momentary play”
You look up at him, joining in the stare group made from your droids who all can't seem to take their eyes off of him.
“That…could be it. Hah, a rather cute thought, isn't it? I should give these guys a bit more praise, I think..” you feel yourself cracking slowly, the exhaustion and the weight of your unreached goals making your mind a fuzzy place. You feel your cheeks go warm again and cast your eyes down swiftly to take a look at your droids again.
“Quite so. Do you need help with the coding?” He suddenly asked as you rose to your feet, taking a careful step over the grouped up droids. You stumble and feel Yao grab onto your elbow to stabilize you. “Careful-”
“Thanks.. here's your, uhm, cube” you mutter as you hastily hand him the Rubik's cube even before you get to stand back properly on your feet.
The droids coo in unison, first in surprise and then in relief when you don't fall.
“And no, actually, I should be fine with doing the coding on my own. It will only take a bit, but anyway- I'd rather not be in your way any more than I already am.” You said as you found your feet again, the droids already gathering around your feet again and looking up at you and Yao unblinking.
“In my way? Miss (L/N), you’re not in my way. I am offering you my help of my own free will, not out of pity or anything similar” he assures you and soon joins you in looking down at your droids when you fail to respond. This time he can’t help but notice the flush on your cheeks, but he doesn’t comment on it for your sake.
“These little ones are.. quite something” you added as your eyes gazed over them all, listening to their lenses “blink” and observe.
The droids huddle closer, almost climbing up over the other to reach better heights to either of you. His words from before strike you once more in that moment, and you find yourself thinking deeper about the issue at hand - although can you really call it an issue? The droids have done nothing but try their best to be of use to you, and not only in your work but in your mood as well. Would it be so wrong to treat them with a little more humanity? The droids seemed to favor Xiangli Yao in some ways too, as most of the items they brought back to you were his.
“Xiangli Yao..”
“Hm?” He tips his head to the side, looking over at you as you still observe the little ones.
“Could you actually..help me with these guys a bit? I think I want to do more than just coding changes, I'd like to add some more features - and you have more experience in this field than I do”
Xiangli Yao feels his heart swell with something he can't quite describe coherently in that moment, but he knows it is making him feel fuzzy and energized. “Of course! I'd love to - spending some time with these droids is going to be a time well spent”.
Although he loved the droids on their own, he was more so looking towards spending time with you. And where the droids were is where you are.

Have you by any chance seen someone on Twitter posting a translated version of Xiangli Yao's daily schedule? How about writing something like what his schedule would be with the reader (already in a relationship) maybe on a day off? Something like: 8:00 AM - get up and start day 10:00-12:00 AM snuggled in bed with y/n as a result. Or - 4:00 PM - prosthetic maintenance. ambushed from behind. (Imagine nuzzling him from behind while he tinkers with his hand 🥺) Something like a bunch of small drabbles in 1 work? I guess finding someone to write for him awakened something in my brain, I'msorry.
A/n: I have heard of this schedule but tbh I didn't see it myself before I got this request lol, I really find the idea sweet so I hope I did it justice! And no need to apologize, I am happy to write for Xangli Yao

Saturday:
08:30 - Wake up
It’s been many years since Xiangli Yao has practiced this continuous cycle of waking up at certain times, to the point he did not need an alarm clock anymore. It was 8:14 when he came to his senses, morning light sleeping through the blinds and softly caressing his eyelids to open. He turns away from them, shifting sluggishly underneath the blankets, knowing that work wasn’t waiting on him today.
He is greeted by your sleeping face, relaxed and soft as the few spots of light from the blinds danced over your cheeks and lips. The light didn’t seem to disturb you, something he was thankful for as he shuffled closer and wrapped his good arm around you, bringing you closer to his warmth as he nuzzled his nose into the top of your head, breathing in your scent as your hair tickled his skin. He feels you mold into his shape, your sleep heavy arm going underneath his and over his side, the blanket keeping your shared warmth trapped, shielding you from the chilly morning.
09:30 - make breakfast with my beloved :)
Well, it may have been 9:10 by the time you both willed yourself to leave the comforts of eachothers arms. It was hunger that pulled you both from bed, stumbling into the bathroom. Xiangli Yao was next to you as you washed your face while he brushed his teeth. He handed you your toothbrush after you blindly found the towel next to the sink and brushed your face dry.
Although he had gotten used to being the one to prepare breakfast for both of you during workdays, the weekends did allow more time, and so Yao did try to listen to you more when you said you wanted to help or do more of the work since you don’t usually get the chance to do so. He did convince you some times before, letting you so simply sit aside and look pretty while he whips you up your favorite, but today wasn’t that day. You woke up with more energy and a craving for good quality time and to get your hands busy.
What ends up happening is a table full of food, a big but balanced breakfast of veggies and fruit and needed protein. While you were setting up the table, Xiangli Yao poured you both the juice you made the weekend. He may not think about it too often, but he always feels like the richest man in the world when he shares mornings like these with you.
13:00 - go to the market, restock groceries
His prosthetic arm is holding the basket while the fingers of his other hand are intertwined with yours. Xiangli Yao was yet to become truly used to these public displays of affection, but he never disliked them. The thing was that such little acts of affection flustered him so much at first and he’d rather not catch someone ogling him while his cheeks are red as the tomatoes you were looking at now. He was used to it, he tells himself as he slowly lets your fingers slip from his hold when you say you can use some of the tomatoes. He remembers you mentioning a recipe some time ago that required a good amount of tomatoes. He helps you pick out the best ones and he adds it to the basket after the purchase is done. Although today’s shopping trip ended with more bags than either of you expected, Xiangli Yao vehemently refused to allow you to carry any of the bags.
You ended up stopping at the local dessert shop, purchasing a few sweet goods for home. You mentioned how the chocolate cake he got looked oddly similar to Xiang-LEE. Now he couldn’t unsee it..
16:00 - prosthetic maintenance(p.s. keep your back guarded!)
How oddly homely it felt to have your arms around him while he tinkered away on his mechanical arm..
Although at first you only observed him from the doorway, he chose to skillfully ignore you when you began to sneak closer, almost as if he couldn’t see you from the corner of his eye.
You knew he knew too, but it's a game you both chose to play every evening when the sun began to lean in to kiss the mountains.
You hum as you put your chin on top of his head, peering down at the assortment of open wires and metal plating scattered about on the table. There's a screwdriver in his good hand, and he's clearly doing something, but you're unsure what. Perhaps you'd ask one day, tell him to explain how his arm really works, but that is not today.
He feels you leaning in and kissing his cheek and then his temple.
“The meal is soon to be done. Don't keep me waiting all alone at the table, Xiangli Yao”
19:00 - Free activities
Xiangli Yao can't help the chuckle that escapes him as he witnesses your scowl and furrowed brows, and all for the little board game with black and white pieces. You've won the round from last night and he deemed it appropriate to ask for a rematch, although he only wished to make you blow off the steam. You've been rather stressed this week, perhaps some back and forth of the game could allow a reprieve.
“You've been thinking about your next move for quite some time now, my love…” he tries, a smile plastered on his lips, both amused and sympathetic.
“...I got it…shh” you return, pushing your chin into the heel of your palm. He hums in response, and another few heartbeats of silence pass before he sees your face light up, as if a star had whispered the next act into your ear. Your fingers deftly move across the board and move your piece across the checkerboard.
“Checkmate!”
He laughs, his chest shaking with joy as you beam at him. You beat him. Again.
22:30 - bedtime
Mornings are where Xiangli Yao thrives. He is a morning person to the last bone in his body and on work days it is not rare for him to rise before you and his alarm, but they don’t bring him nearly as much relief and joy as bedtime does. Your sleepy face as you go to brush your teeth and change into your bedwear always has his heart softening, his own movements slowing down as his entire body yawns for the comforts of the mattress and comfortable blankets.
He is sitting at the edge of the bed, tinkering with his prosthetic arm for the last time and setting it aside on the table right next to his side of the bed. His prosthetic is cold and rather uncomfortable to sleep with for both of you. From behind he hears you exiting the bathroom and the sound of your bare feet against the floor hurrying up has him turning around to see how you crash into the bed, your face buried into your pillow with a low groan, a breath of relief as weight is taken off your feet.
He shuffles, telling you to get under the blankets while he turns off the lights. Once he remembered you both joking about being afraid of the dark, and although it was all just a joke - Xiangli Yao has been the one to turn off the lights since then.
He hums as he returns, sliding under the blankets and finding the warmth of your body with searching fingers, pulling himself closer until he was wrapped around you. He buries his nose into your hair, inhaling your scent before laying a lingering kiss to your cheek, bidding you goodnight.
