Who made her story quest and why the emotional damage gosh darn it! :'D
First off, she's both hilarious and cool. Her eloquent way of presenting herself mixed with her "stage mom in denial" energy is so funny. She almost reminds me of my own dear mother.
I've already seen a lot of mother/mommy jokes about Cloud Retainer, but this quest truly solidified that joke into such a wholesome fact about her. She does act like a mother.
Yes she's quite a prideful and serious character, but she's also so openly caring and supportive to her disciples. Checking up on them to see if they're doing well with their work, always ready to share stories about them, nagging that they don't visit her as often, etc. Lol. It was both hilarious and wholesome to watch.
And then Yuandai's part just... :'D
Children, no matter how young or old they are, do have that fear of disappointing their parents because of the mistakes they make. But it isn't the mistakes that makes a parent sad, it's the fact that their own children even had doubts that they would still love them despite their mistakes.
That is similar to Yuandai's story when she felt too shameful to even go back to Xianyuan, and Xianyun was understandably pissed because of of it, ready to drag her back to Mt. Aocang by the ear for the scariest lecture of her life. Lol
But despite that, Xianyun never blamed her for her choices. Judgmental at first (most especially judging her choice of men lmao), but accepting. I was so emotionally touched when it revealed that Xianyun secretly supported Yuandai throughout the years. It just makes Xianyun's statement about checking up on her disciples much more heartfelt: Yuandai was considered a disciple of hers for her to worry about. Just like what any mother would do for their grown-up children.
And to end this rant.... Xianyun acting almost like a mother figure to traveler as well? That heartbreaking scene of traveler's dream, and then Xianyun comforting them afterwards? Her line that it's her job to worry about the young ones?
Umm, ouch. My heart???? :'D
Like, she hit almost all the boxes for what makes me emotionally attached to a character. I love Xianyun and I hope to see more of her serious, funny, and caring self in the future.

The reason wings don't give away her adeptus status is that aswell as a mark on the body, a vision will also physically manifest on their body, while Xianyun's wings are from her being an adeptus most liyue citizens will simply think that her vision gave her wings.

Everyone has something to say about Xianyun: "That tall woman with the updone hair," "that bespectacled artisan," or perhaps "that talkative new neighbor." They all say different things, but together they paint a picture of the impression she leaves — of someone who's witty, chatty, warm-hearted, and easy to get along with.
But that's not how Xianyun sees herself. In her own eyes, she's inarticulate, reserved, and unyieldingly proud. Aside from her mastery of mechanics and knack for making all kinds of little trinkets, it's an entirely different image from how others would describe her.
Some curious individuals, seeing how her mannerisms and bearing set her apart from ordinary folk, are convinced that she's a heroine — so they go around trying to uncover her heroic backstory and whether she goes by any other names.
Ask the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor's consultant, and with a wave of his hand, he'd say: "Xianyun? We're not well acquainted, but going by her name, she sounds like a good person."
Ask Madame Ping from Yujing Terrace, and she'd nod and reply: "Xian... Oh, Xianyun? We've crossed paths, yes... She's a good person, you know. Once you've met, you'll find that your days seem to go by much more smoothly."
Ask Ganyu, and she'd nod too: "She is a heroine, but a very discreet one — hence why she's living incognito in Liyue Harbor."
Ask Shenhe, and she'd respond pensively: "Xianyun... Of course, she's a master. Whatever you do, you must not offend her."
As it turns out, such speculations are not wrong. There's far more to Xianyun than meets the eye, but those who know the full story are few indeed. If someone was to address her as "Cloud Retainer"... Well, people would know her instantly, and you'd hear a torrent of praise flow her way: "Who doesn't know Cloud Retainer? Noble, brave, loyal, and wise... A most worthy friend if ever there was one!"
So try asking Xianyun herself then: "Are you a heroine? Surely you're not... an adeptus?"
You catch the new resident just as she's working on her latest invention, her pride and joy — what she calls an "Exquisite Mini Broth Pot." She's too absorbed to take the question seriously, so she simply waves it off as a load of old nonsense and tells you not to bother her while she's busy.
As for what exactly an Exquisite Mini Broth Pot is... No one really knows, other than having been told that it brings out flavors much better than a regular soup pot. Likewise, none would know how profoundly it might impact Liyue Harbor's future gastronomic development. Suffice to say — if Xianyun says it'll be impressive, it'll be impressive alright.

In honour of Xianyun’s release and lantern rite, have these drawings:
Last lantern rite Cloud Retainer referred to food as “edibles” which obviously made me think of a Stoner CR and the storyline then made me come up with the idea to do a whole comic of the Weed Smorking Girlfriends post in which Cloud Retainer, Madame Ping, and Guizhong were all Zhongli’s Weed Smorking Girlfriends? Can’t remember the whole process. Didn’t really get past a rough draft but the draft does exist so I may as well share these with you all lmao
Playing xianyun's character quest made me feel nostalgic about my family so here have this!
Wtf they actually portrayed asian parenting in a positive way and not just comedic this is new
This year's lantern rite talks about family. Ga Ming and his father has settled their differences through communication, somehow I also understand and see myself in Ga Ming when I was in his age, every time I'm having a dispute with my parents about plans and goals in life, I often walk away feeling mad and doesn't listen to what they say, to me its all the same, they don't understand and feel like they are always right. Somehow, as I grew older I often listen to their thoughts and understand what they mean, after all most of the parents wants what is best for their child, and so parents has also to listen to their children, it is always a two way communication to understand each other's perspective. In Ga Ming's quest, it shows that his father learn a thing or two from talking to someone , its better to have a second opinion and learn from the conversation, this way, it broadens the mind and be more open minded and understanding.
His talk with Zhongli opens his mind in understanding his child, being protective of your child and look out for their future is natural for a parent, however that doesn't mean you hold them from their passion and dream just because you feel and think that it is not something that can provide them with their basic needs, such as Ga Ming's passion of wushu dance, Yip Tak thought that dancing will never earn huge some of mora and Ga Ming might find hard to survive a day. In which case, Zhongli explains to him about kites and about someone's dream and goals.
A good example, is Miss Xianyun's parenting, she is giving her disciples to choose the path they want to go and guide them if they lost , protect them and understand them. On her story quest, you can see how cloud retainer takes care of her disciple giving them the freedom to make decision and understand them, even though there are some decisions from her disciples she does not agree but she supports them. In this way, it helps the child grow, know which path to choose and more importantly, they feel valued and respect their master in return, for Xianyun respects their decision all the time.
I think many players resonate about GaMing's journey and his passion, most of the asian households usually influence their child with the career path to choose , its because most parents thought that a career that is in demand, good pay and with achievement, can give their child a sense of security and income, will help them sufficiently provide their needs and wants. Because parents always look out for their child's future, to have a stable job and can provide themselves, to them, when they no longer in this world, it is a great relief for a parent to see their children that has a job that can provide any needs/wants, because they are having a stable job.
