honestly the whole pro vs anti ship discourse never made sense to me. Especially because I fall somewhere in the middle and don’t really identify with either label.

My only real boundaries for stuff that I enjoy shipping/seeing be shipped are pedophilia and incest. That’s it. I don’t give a fuck about age gaps or power imbalances or if it’s ‘abusive’ in canon. And I don’t go out of my way to harass people who do ship things that cross those boundaries, I just block and move on because while I respect their right to ship what they want, I also don’t really feel comfortable interacting with people who explicitly ship incest and/or underage.

And I understand that fiction can and does affect reality sometimes (like propaganda, for example) but most of the time people are smart enough to draw their own conclusions. I don’t like the fact that people go out of their way to write underage fic, sure, but do I harass people who write it and think it should be scrubbed? Fuck no. Write what you want. I guess I just don’t like how black and white the conflict has gotten. And I especially don’t like falling in between pro shipper and anti shipper. Because when I interact with one, I feel like I’m lying to them no matter which it is, and I’m not here to violate peoples DNIs. I’m not ‘pro’ enough to be a pro shipper and I’m not ‘anti’ enough to be an anti shipper.

It makes me feel weird and kinda gross sometimes because I hate conflict. Am I in the wrong here? Any advice?

Technically TECHNICALLY speaking, your attitude counts as "proship"-- which means "other people can write what they want and I'll avoid what I don't like."

It's people who identify as antis who use the term "proship" to mean "revels in the filthiest ideas possible and thinks all darkfic is amazing."

If you don't want to actively censor fanfic, and you don't harass other creators **technically** you count as "proship."

But here is the thing, both terms are flat unecessary.

The term "antiship" came first, and was self-applied by people who were against certain things in fandom shipping. Then the term "proship" started to be used for people to express that they weren't antis and didn't harass people.

But no one needs either term.

I refuse to use either term any more.

Instead of "antis" I say "the fandom pro-censorship crowd" which much more clearly conveys what I mean.

"Doesn't harass other people over ships they don't like" doesn't need a term like "proship" because it's the default.

Not harassing other people over fanfiction, blocking and avoiding fanfiction you don't want to see-- that's ""proship""-- but that's just the default.

"proship" means, (for lack of a better term) "normal" fans who do what they like and block shit they don't like.

And again, both terms are unnecessary, and I refuse to use them.

wait you understand that kinks are ok because they're fantasies that make you happy right? you all get that you don't need to have trauma for your kinks to be okay? right? like none of you think i witnessed a tragic accident on the pool toy assembly line right?

I hope you don't mind me reblogging this, OP. I've seen a few similar posts recently and they've been making me feel some ways.

One, selfishly grateful that I came to my first fandom before the neo-puritanical wars began over whose ships and kinks were the most righteous and morally valid to get off on (don't get me started on canonical validation, as if that has any bearing on shipping at all). It wasn't even a shadow in the corner of my eye when I was a barely-teen starting to read Snarry fic in the fandom that shall not be named. I started to get a hint of it when I rejoined SPN fandom more socially in 2022 after a very long break, but the sheer pervasiveness and vitriol of it wasn't clear to me until I joined Tumblr in January this year. 'Dodged a bullet' doesn't even begin.

Two, sad to imagine all the people like OP that feel the same way but haven't–just 'yet', I hope–managed to find the exit to the cesspit they've found themselves in. I can see that it would be scary to leave, and not just leave, but cross to the other side, where you then become one of the subjects of their unreasonably targeted disdain (at best) and hate (let's be optimistic and say worst).

Three is a good feeling, at least. I'm incredibly happy for OP and the others whose posts I've seen like this one. I love that it must be so freeing to openly share and engage with content you've been nervous to acknowledge before, and I hope you all find lots of fast friends in the Wincestie side of fandom the way I have. 🥹💖

Okay, I'm done, carry on, just ignore me, I'm prone to emotional outbursts, it's fine, I'm fine, everything's fine.

I'm so happy to be able to actually interact with other wincest shippers now instead of letting others police what I choose to like in my favourite fandom! 🐿

I've loved spn for years but always felt weird or bad for being into wincest because the few friends I have who watch it constantly shit on wincesties because they either don't know how fandom works (some of them only watched the show and edits, never really talking to other people in the fandom) or they can't tell the difference between real life morals vs fiction. 😒

And people on other social media (specifically people around my own age) always wanna be the moral police and act like they're superior for not liking taboo things even though half of them definitely have a 2nd account for that taboo stuff 😂

But anyway, I enjoy seeing all the samdean posts and being able to interact with them or reblog them while having a much lower chance of dealing with an anti since most people tend to actually use that block button on here like they should when they find an account they dislike!

A big majority of you are very kind people who cancel out the few rude/bad people online so thank you! 🤎

Take it from an incubi that knows. Goetia have some fucking weird kinks, man. Be careful

"Not just Goetia," Blitz answered with a grin, wiggling his eyebrows. He leaned back in his seat, arms comfortably folded behind his head, and looked the incubus up and down. "I mean, I'm all for being careful when it comes to sex. Protection every time, non fucking negotiable. But when it comes to trying out someone's kinks, I mean... if it's reasonably safe and sane, and we're all consenting, I'm usually in."

A moment later, growing more serious, Blitz added: "It's real easy to shame someone's kinks, you know? And it's a lot harder to just say, your kink is not my kink and that's okay. But that's where I try to be, my... Philosophy, or whatever. If someone's kink is too weird for me, that doesn't really mean it's weird. Just that I ain't there for it. "My best friend works in the sex industry. He helps with designing and selling all kinds of shit. If anyone was gonna say, oh yeah, those people are fucked up, it would probably be him, since he gets to see the full, uh, the full spectrum, but he doesn't think that at all. He just takes people as they are when it comes to kinky bedroom shit, and I think that's kinda fuckin..." What was the right word?

"Admirable."
