Ok so I was wondering if it's been mentioned anywhere whether the brothers have been demons for longer than they were angels? I'm just thinking if Satan has been in the family longer than Lilith was...

It hasn't been mentioned BUT

I have a theory, created through canon, filled with speculation where canon left gaps and spiced with blasphemy because this is OM! and that's a given at this point

In Lesson 11-7 Mammon says he's over 5000 yrs old

Creationists believe Earth to be around the same age (around 6000). The whole Adam & Eve and The Forbidden Fruit thing was supposed to have happened around the same time too.

Despite taking parts of religion for its lore OM! does not follow religion and doesn't seem to follow Creationism (Mammon mentions years in the millions, Dinosaurs were mentioned once or twice while I think they don't appear in creationism? I'm not 100% sure how the dinosaur thing works in it tbh)

I believe OM! Lilith feeding her human lover forbidden food from the Celestial Realm (to heal him) is OM!'s version of The Forbidden Fruit. So it happened over 500 years go.

In a lot of places it feels like the brothers consider their lives in the Celestial Realm separate from their ones in the Devildom despite the fact that they haven't changed much personality wise. And that makes sense because after the Fall you could even go as far as to say that they were reborn as Demons because of the way that even their bodies and magic changed

So when Mammon says he's over 5000 years my theory is that he meant he's been a demon for over 5000 years.

If ^ that's true then it means that Satan's full (physical -> because Satan manifested as a partially conscious being in Lucifer even before Asmo was created) age is the same (so 5000-6000 years).

Satan was probably a child when he was created because the game says Lucifer spent time raising him and because it's heavily hinted that Mammon spent time raising him as well (link)

So it took Satan maximum 5000-6000 years to grow from a child to someone who looks like he's in his 20s (the game says Satan's going through his rebellious teenage stage but I think that's just a constant with Satan and not a phase)

The brothers still looked the same as they do now when they Fell meaning they grew from newly created angels to looking like they were in their 20s while in the Celestial Realm (so max 5000-6000 years)

The brothers fought in the War against the Demons for a significant amount of time - long enough for Levi to be made a General and Mammon & Beel to be moved up the Angel hierarchy. One can assume (and pray) they were all full grown adults when they entered the War.

So they entered the War at 5000-6000 years and spent an unknown but significantly long time fighting in the War. They then spent more (yet a relatively smaller amount of) time in a truce before their Rebellion

So with this theory, they've spent more time with Lilith than they have with Satan (despite Satan's consciousness technically forming long before Lilith was created)

When writing fics I like to say the brothers (minus Satan) are actually millions of years old because I like the idea of MC seeing this ancient, eldritch creature and going "I'm gonna smooch that"

oh i haven't seen that part yet, as i said dead or forced to "retire," but that's not to say they don't have people to do the work for them, i'm sure these elders (who didn't accept their prince's chosen successors heir) have put their most faithful men to make life difficult for the brothers.

in addition I believe that the demon king did not accept the diavolo's choice very well, it is very likely that he also shares the antiquated ideals of his avatars, but as he could not interfere with the choice of his son (because whether he likes it or not, it's the son who was going to take over) he would simply let his avatars take care of the successors and look the other way.

It is clear that it is the right of the future demon king to choose his most faithful, and that the previous king cannot/should not interfere in this matter, but it is also the duty of the future king to watch over the future of his kingdom and if his subjects do not like the brother...... well it won't be his fault that the silly boy has chosen a bunch of little angels to play house with, right? and he can't even complain because a king must always look out for the well being of his people...

(this is why lucifer is so paranoid about Diavolo's reputation, because he knows his predecessor and that nasty peacock knew very well how to find weakness)

following this theory, we can think that in the time when the demon king was awake there were 7 avatars of the capital sins before the brothers, most likely they (the brothers) had to kill their predecessors / take down their predecessors since in the cannon itself said that the current order of devildom was created by the ideology of Diavolo.

in this case, one can think that devildom at that time was much more bloody and barbaric than we thought, possibly following the ideology of clans and hierarchical separation aimed at the strength of demons.
