How blessed are those souls who find several languages in the nature and thousands of stories on the continuously interchanging stages of day and night

I am such an Autumn person. Give me a quiet, cozy spot with a view of the changing trees on a crisp, late September day with a warm drink and a good book and I will be in all my glory.

I know I am capable of many difficult things, but I have yet to learn how to forge deep and long lasting connections with others.

My whole life, I’ve begged the universe to let me have even just one person that I will be lucky to be close with. Just one person who will stay. I’ve never had a best friend before. Never had someone where I don’t have to translate every word of my soul just to be understood.

Maybe I haven’t found them because I’m not yet where I’m meant to be. I know I have to keep growing, but can’t I be worthy as I am?

I see it happening all around me. I see the hard work and effort people put into their friendships. I see the good and the bad.

I try so hard to be kind, thoughtful, respectful, authentic, and still I can’t help but feel like I’m being punished. Like I’m still doing everything wrong.

I talk too much and have few words to say. Even online, It’s very hard to find people.

What am I missing? Is there something in myself that only I can’t see?

I try to be strong. I try to be content with my own company. But sometimes it’s really lonely.

Why is it so hard to find the right words to say? I always feel one well expressed thought away from achieving my desires. Creating art, seizing opportunities, connecting with others.

No matter how many times I rewrite my sentences or spend hours thinking of words specific enough, what I have on the page just doesn’t feel right. It feels like a body with no soul. The words just won’t come.

If it was right, I don’t think I would feel as alone as I do. I wouldn’t feel like I leave people more confused. I wouldn’t feel like there’s no being who will ever reach my soul and recognize it for what it is.

I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I wish people could see my heart to its core, so I wouldn’t have to spend so much time clumsily talking.

Apparently a lot of people get dialogue punctuation wrong despite having an otherwise solid grasp of grammar, possibly because they’re used to writing essays rather than prose. I don’t wanna be the asshole who complains about writing errors and then doesn’t offer to help, so here are the basics summarized as simply as I could manage on my phone (“dialogue tag” just refers to phrases like “he said,” “she whispered,” “they asked”):

“For most dialogue, use a comma after the sentence and don’t capitalize the next word after the quotation mark,” she said.

“But what if you’re using a question mark rather than a period?” they asked.

“When using a dialogue tag, you never capitalize the word after the quotation mark unless it’s a proper noun!” she snapped.

“When breaking up a single sentence with a dialogue tag,” she said, “use commas.”

“This is a single sentence,” she said. “Now, this is a second stand-alone sentence, so there’s no comma after ‘she said.’”

“There’s no dialogue tag after this sentence, so end it with a period rather than a comma.” She frowned, suddenly concerned that the entire post was as unasked for as it was sanctimonious.
