Arythmic Offerings

/

Unsteady theories of the cosmos

Slip-slide against each other.

Poems turn the earth on its head;

Poetry makes the world go round.

/

When god made the wheel,

Man put it to work (and himself).

Put your shoulder to the wheel -

Put your back to it!

/

She never expected the spokes to snap

Back to ancient spears

Only good for hunting.

If you'll hunt, I'll gather.

(But who gets the farm?)

/

As we wade through jellied time,

Life comes back around,

Shelling peas while living in pods,

The future is the past and the past is gone.

Throw anything at me -

All but a gasp is gone.

/

And when we're home,

You put your forehead to my spine

So my strength enters your dreams.

/

Nested realities furl in on themselves, and each other.

Worlds warp through the window as I turn my head.

I see lights in my tea and darkness in the mirror,

Ready to take on the night.

/

Keys grow like thorns through my fist,

Words imprint from the page to my skin,

But you can't press flowers in a kindle.

/

Let the cycle flow and retreat.

Reset and start here.

Why does softness hurt the worst,

Why do feathers break us down?

/

I offer up my vices, coffee and fantasy

Like memories of furtive kisses mine to keep

No longer.

(But the bruises are still so satisfying).

Sketch of a boxing ring with crossed gloves on the base as a logo. Above it floats a wedding ring and a poem which reads: 'The boxing bell sounds; / I step into the ring. / As I hit, he kneels'

Pick 'n' mix: a sketch to match my poem. Day 1 and my first try at Inktober. A slightly different take on 'Ring', perhaps. Repost with alt text.

The boxing bell sounds;

I step out into the ring.

As I hit, he kneels.
