I Used To Think I Could

“I used to think I could

capture the world

in my hands,

but my palms are too smooth

for such a coarse planet.”

“I wasn’t born a beautiful lover

like the ones you see in movies:

the ‘I would part oceans

and lasso the moon for you

just because you said to’ lover.

No, I’m much more flawed;

I’m violent and unrelenting

like the angry waves

in the middle of the sea

crashing down on a drown victim.

I’m as dry and life-sucking

as the surface of Venus

and as chilling as Pluto’s.

I’m the tortured haunting

heaving through the halls

leaving you awake and shaken

and lying stiff in bed.

I’m the tornado you see

on the horizon, hurling

towards you, only for it

to graze the outskirts of town.

I’m the mess your mama

always warned you about,

terminal and deadly,

but I was born the lover

you find only once, the

‘I will love you with everything’

lover.”

Hi, hope your hangover settles down :) Sending you a prompt "the last thing I remember" :) hope this keeps you entertained for a little while.

It’s getting there. Haha and thanks for the prompt! I found this fitting:

It wasn’t the cold porcelain

against my cheek

as soothing as a mother’s touch,

the grout between tiles

scratching at my legs

like overgrown weeds in the yard,

the swirling haze, blurred vision,

and inevitably crossed eyes,

nor was it the caress of rugs

on the bathroom floor;

no, the last thing I remember

was the coolness of the dark

finally enveloping me

as my world took another spin.

Send something
