Anyway, not-so-friendly reminder that nihilism/doomerism/accelerationism is a conspiracy theory meant to keep people complacent and docile in the event of an authoritarian regime, and the online Left really needs to start shunning these groups with the same vehemence that we shun radfem/terf groups.
The biggest threat to systemic evil is hope, and this nonsense āthe world will never get better, so why bother trying to make it betterā ideology literally exists to serve those systems. The doomerism movement is pro-capitalist, pro-fascist, pro-authoritarianism, etc. because they accept these systems as inherent to the nature of humanity, unable to be changedā¦ which is exactly what the fascists running the system want. After all, why resist the rise of evil if evil is always inevitable? Why fight to make the world a better place if the world is just going to end soon anyway? Why not just stand aside and let the authoritarians do their thing? It doesnāt even matter anyway, right?
The point is, the Left is far too tolerant of doomerism, and itās driving me insane.

How to Write Dialogue for (most) Dream SMP Characters
A few months ago, I remembered seeing a lot of posts giving advice on how to write dialogue for DSMP Characters. And while those posts contained numerous helpful pointers, overall, they fall justĀ short of capturing what it means to write in a characterās Voice.
Unique character Voices, while tricky to get right, are usually achieved by giving each character a distinct set of words to say, in a manner that distinguishes them from the rest of the cast.Ā
With this in mind, Iāve spent the past few days combing through almost Thirty Hours of VOD footageĀ to collect nearly all of the unique words, phrases, and speaking habits of every major and minor character on the Dream SMP (involved in 2+ story arcs.)
Before Reading:
Sentence-Starters are single words or phrases which begin a sentence. (ie.Ā āYāknow, maybe you should try something different.ā)Ā
Sentence Paddings are reoccurring words added to the middle of sentences. (ie.Ā āItās like he justĀ canāt cry.ā)Ā
Sentence Endings are single words or phrases which end a sentence. (ie.Ā āThereās no need to fight, I hope.ā)
All three of these types can be combined with one another to create more natural-sounding sentences. For instance, if a character has the two Sentence-Starters āOkayā andĀ āSo,ā they can be used like this; āOkay, so, Iām a bit worried.ā
(Note: When certain traits or phrases arenāt obvious with how they should be applied to dialogue, an (ie.) will be added below to illustrate them.)
Wilbur
General Traits:
Repeats himself for emphasis. Sometimes these repetitions will add additional information. More often, this repetition is focused around a specific word with the circumstance of the sentence being changed each time.
ie. āIām living in an eternal limbo again. Iāve been through limbo, Iām out of limbo, and socially, Iām still in this limbo.ā
Highly eloquent in language, bordering on poetic.
Highly introspective; significantly less so after Eretās betrayal and onward.
Occasionally makes literary analogies and references, sometimes breaking the Fourth Wall to do so.
Curses semi-frequently. Wilbur is the only known character to use the word ācunt,ā although rare.
Common Go-To Swears -Ā Fuck, Shit, Prick, Bastard, Hell, Ass (Including all variations and combinations.)
Tends to hum when he thinks to himself.
Stutters most often when offended, shocked, or surprised.
Generally addresses characters semi-formally, often by title or role.
Often slips into long-form monologues when self-reflecting.
Usually defaults to being the head of a conversation; introducing, managing, and elaborating on topics throughout, especially when speaking to three or more people.
Circumstantial Phrases:
You and I, weāreĀ āĀ (To connect positively with someone.)
ie. āYou and I, weāre used to seeing the good in people.ā
I wanna pick your brain / Can I pick your brain? (To ask about someone else.)
Donāt say that, Iāll cry (Affectionate banter, only to Tommy.)
Iām afraidĀ āĀ (When hopeless or delivering bad news.)
ie. āIām afraid thereās no getting out of this now.ā
Thereās no reason toĀ āĀ / Thereās no reason forĀ ā / Thereās no need forĀ ā Ā (When being threatened or breaking up a fight.)
ie. āThereās no need for violence, gentlemen.ā

since i haven't been around, and i haven't been able to write as much as i've wanted, here's some stuff i was noodling with
i've been toying with a hurt/comfort fic exploring sith lightning as more (pun intended) insidious than in the films, because it is, technically a bolt of purely malevolent energy. i wanted the effects to work like radiation sickness. i have an unfinished WIP using this idea with obi-wan and anakin, where anakin's throat just kind of melts, but we can have all sorts of fun here.
a longer fic about the anakin-doesn't-fall-to-the-dark-side AU i keep in my back pocket, mustard gas & roses, covering exactly how it goes AU from the third episode. this would be from padme's perspective and be largely about her, but it would change a lot of the key details of that universe (obi-wan's role changes quite a bit) and by necessity would be plot heavy
another plot heavy anakin-doesn't-fall-to-the-dark-side AU, except from obi-wan's perspective. in this one, anakin doesn't do the stupid shithead idiot move, and he and mace work together to arrest palpatine. obi-wan is selected (because of his reputation as the negotiator, and the context he has thanks to anakin's knowledge about palpatine) to interrogate palpatine and get a full picture of how compromised the republic's security actually is, but inevitably palpatine is still playing the long game. i just think it'd be fun to explore what could make palpatine compelling as a villain even when he seemingly has no avenues left.
another fic featuring palpatine as the primary antagonist, but this one borrows from legends. in legends, the jedi temple is actually built over an old sith temple; the idea was, palpatine manipulates anakin into sneaking down to explore it for him. the unfortunate thing about sith temples is that they're passively acting on you, the whole time you're in them, and anakin, both particularly sensitive and particularly wounded, goes a bit off the deep end.
......... werewolf jedi. i'm sorry i've been watching a lot of god of war playthroughs. this is way dorkier than you think it is i promise.
shmi survives AOTC, but for whatever reason, anakin believes she died then. they reunite during a rehash of the slaves of the republic plotline, which i'm sure doesn't spark any specific emotions in anyone in particular. this would be a classic husborth fic-where-the-plot-is-feelings but, like, come on, this would be all feelings all the way down.
between the third and fourth episodes, say about ten years into the empire, obi-wan gets captured by palpatine. palpatine leverages his presence for all it's worth, including showing off to obi-wan exactly how loyal to him vader's become. this is an excuse to force vader and obi-wan to interact regularly without vader being able to kill obi-wan (he is not allowed because palpatine did not sign his permission slip) which leads to delicious character interactions not otherwise possible on account of vader's homicidal general state of being
