Okay, yesterdays post got the comment "Protect her at all costs Crosshair." Well, this is a reminder that one of the people she needs protection from is herself. AKA, stressed overworked single mother needs a reminder to take a break.

Crosshair entered the house, his keys clicking to let Lyni know he was home. The smell of the stew she was making filled the house. Despite the reassurances she did not have to cook for everyone while staying at his families house Lyni still insisted on it.

Walking into the kitchen Crosshair stopped in his tracks. The fact that Lyni was partly hunched over the stove was not surprising, it was what she was wearing. Which was nothing but a towel.

Her hair was falling down her back still darker from her shower, with drops of water gleaming on her bare arms. He could see the markings white against her skin. What he could also see was the scars. Whip scars across her shoulders, scars of knives on her arms and legs as well as lighter scars of nails.

Mentally slapping himself he looked away, "Lyni."

Tossing a "Hi Cross." Over her shoulder before, "Can you get the red weed from above the stove?"

Quickly walking across the room, careful not to look at her and brought down the little jar. Clearing his throat, "Lyni," he started again, "you should get dressed."

Brushing it off, "I can't leave the stew." Before he could protest, "If it isn't cooked just right Shadow will refuse to eat for the next twelve hours which will cause Brutal to join her hunger strike."

Before she could continue Crosshair put a hand on the wooden spoon she was using to stir, "Surely I can do this for a few minutes while you get dressed."

Looking up at him she blinked for a moment then adjusted his hold on the spoon before taking it around in a few of the figures she was using, "Just keep doing that pattern ok?" He nodded and she stepped away and headed towards her room, "Oh, and make sure to be getting the bottom of the pot." With a last okay from him she left the room.

Right hand burning from the memory of her touch, Crosshair continued to stir the pot in the same figures she showed him until Lyni came back into the room wearing sweatpants and an overlarge shirt. Looking at her, "So that's where that shirt went."

She still had a towel around her shoulders and stopped where she was using it to dry part of her hair, "Sorry..."

With a slight smile, "No need to apologize." Seeing her move forward and reaching for the spoon he adjusted himself so she could not reach the stove top, "Finsh brushing your hair."

Rolling her eyes she sat down on the chair he usually lounged in and took out the brush. Running it though her hair she started humming a little song. Finally her hair was free of snags and she walked into the kitchen again, gathering more ingredients to be within reach of the pot. Looking up at him, "Could you braid my hair for me while I finish this?"

Crossair nodded, "Let me wash my hands first." Taking back the spot at the stove she continued making the stew. And when his hands were clean again, Cross brushed her hair a bit more to make sure it was free of snags before braiding it. He moved carefully, both to make sure it was right and because he liked the feel of her hair in his calloused hands. This was a moment he didn't want to end.
