HERE'S MY OPINION ON THIS THAT NO ONE ASKED FOR

Animation is off for a start. I was talking about this yesterday with my Trolls mutuals on Discord. The trolls just look...lifeless? For a lack of a better word. Ain't a thought behind their eyes. I know this was probably low budget but it still looks creepy lmao. Second, WHAT'S WITH THE AI SOUNDING VOICE??? I KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO THOUGHT THAT. Yesterday I heard (or rather read) someone saying that it sounded like a weird ass AI combo of Anna Kendrick and Amanda Leighton. For those who don't know, Amanda Leighton was Poppy's VA in TTBGO and Trollstopia. I don't know why but the AI alarm bells are going off. If there's one thing you should know about me, IT'S THAT I DON'T SUPPORT AI BEING USED TO VOICE CHARACTERS SINCE WITHOUT THE VOICE ACTOR'S PERMISSION IT'S BASICALLY THEFT. Voice actors don't spend years perfecting their craft only for the characters they voice to be turned into rusty robots (yes that was a TBT reference and if you catch it I love you).

Another thing I saw on Discord yesterday was that maybe this is to hold us off until DreamWorks can release something bigger involving Trolls. Oh my god I really hope it is.

THE RADIO TROLL

Asha, aka The Radio Troll, is one of the daughters of King Peppy. She's 35 years old. She was separated from Peppy and Poppy along with Viva, Clay and the Putt Putt Trolls during the Great Escape (she would've been roughly 15 at the time) hence why her colours are gone from her being a teen onwards. However there's a catch. Typically, grey trolls attempt to regain their colour...Asha didn't. The belief that the rest of her tribe besides the Putt Putt Trolls were dead caused her to make a rather crazy decision. Asha, in a way, embraced the darkness that her lack of colour brought. By giving up her colours and awakening said darkness, Asha was given abilities related to her job as a radio hostess such as:

- Her radio dial eyes which she can trigger either on command or as a result of intense anger.

- She is able to put a radio effect over her voice with or without her mic. This means she can distort her voice to intimidate others when needed.

- She can glitch out the screens of electronic devices simply by looking at them.

(Yes before my inbox gets flooded with the same question, I did get inspo for Asha's abilities from Alastor from Hazbin Hotel.)

After the escape, Asha ended up at Hole N' Fun. Viva was the fun, Clay "took care of the boring stuff" and Asha was the entertainment in the form of radio. In terms of personality, Asha is rather difficult to explain. She isn't entirely bad...but she isn't entirely good either. She's definitely resentful towards her father for not attempting to search for them and Asha couldn't go herself because Viva couldn't risk losing another sister. In Asha's eyes, Peppy found it easier to assume she was dead.

Asha's relationship with Poppy

Complicated. The last time Asha saw Poppy was when she was a baby. They don't really know much about eachother and Asha isn't keen on opening up. Asha appears to be distant with Poppy because she genuinely doesn't know how to talk to her. She also knows that Poppy has a lot of questions about that night 20 years ago... questions Asha doesn't want to answer. She knows she can't shut Poppy out forever but how do you talk to your own sister who didn't know you existed until you just so happened to cross paths 20 years later...? Asha would also feel a sense of melancholy around Poppy. She reminds her too much of herself before she lost her colours and became the "Radio Troll" she is now. To Asha, Poppy is everything she lost in those tunnels. Both literally and metaphorically.

There's a thought that's been in my head since I created Asha.

What would Asha's reaction to finding out Peppy never told Poppy about her and Viva be?

Y'know when you hear something you don't like but instead of immediately lashing out in rage you're just...numb? Like you're angry but on the outside you look calm? Way too calm? Yeah. That's Asha's reaction. It'd kinda go like this:

*dry chuckle* "What do you mean he never told you about us? He didn't just assume we were dead...right?"

Her tone in the above dialogue is rather neutral. Too neutral. Menacingly neutral with a little bit of bite when she says "...right?". Asha prides herself in being unpredictable and unreadable. When she asks if Peppy assumed she and Viva died during the escape, that's code for "ain't no way he made the entire tribe believe we were dead for the past 20 years". She's angry that her tribe made a silent agreement to forget she and her older sister ever existed but she's trying not to show it. Her chuckling before speaking could be interpreted as a warning.

To add insult to injury, Asha was just 15 during the escape. She was a teenager. You bet she vividly remembers huddling in a corner of Hole N' Fun mumbling to herself that everything was fine and surely her dad was looking for her. Imagine finding out that not only your own father but your whole tribe found it easier to assume you were dead rather than at least hope you survived. In fact, it reminds me of a verse from Drift Away from SU.

"You keep on turning pages, for people who don't care,

People who don't care about you,

And still it takes you ages,

To see that no one's there,

See that no one's there,

So yeah. She doesn't take finding out that Poppy didn't know about her as well as Viva seems to.

FINALLY THOUGHT OF SOME NEW BONUS LORE

Since I'm in both the Trolls and Helluverse fandoms, I got my inspo for Asha from Alastor as some of you have noticed. I've managed to think of something new related to that in a way.

In Hell, overlords deal in souls. What would the Trolls equivalent of that be? Well, what's the most important thing to a Troll? Their voice.

That gave me the idea of...what if Asha dealt in voices? Radio is a key way of distributing music as we saw in TBT since Velvet and Veneer had their song broadcasted over the radio. Building on this, radio would be even more important to Trolls since music is around all they do. To get your songs on the radio would be a great honour, I imagine. That begs the question of...how far will trolls be willing to go to get a taste of fame? Maybe they'd strike a deal with a certain shady radio host?

Here's how I'm imagining the process for this:

Poor unfortunate troll hits rock bottom in their career.

They seek out the help (supposedly) of The Radio Troll.

Asha promises them a place in the music industry...for a price.

The price is their voice.

Said poor unfortunate troll accepts that price with a little bit of persuasion from Asha.

They sign a contract binding their voice to Asha therefore basically being under her ownership.

Now just to be clear, when I say that trolls give their voice to Asha I don't mean literally. They don't lose the ability to talk or sing. Selling your voice to Asha means being under her control. Their voice is what makes a troll a troll. Having someone own it on a deeper level than a management contract or a record deal is a big thing. Asha's deals are essentially "give me your voice in exchange for a chance at success." She gives failed stars a second chance whether it's for worse or better. On a more serious note, I feel like "selling your voice" could be a metaphor for a toxic manager- that's how I'm giving it a place in the Trolls universe so I'm not just copying Hazbin Hotel. I've taken the idea and built on it.

This chorus refers to the US at the time. During the 20s and beyond, there were very strict opinions and laws on immigration. The WASPS (White Anglo Saxon Protestants) were heavily preferred. Basically meaning white British protestants were "better". Adrian wasn't British, he was Irish and the Irish were disliked due to stereotypes surrounding their relationship with alcohol and their religion being mainly Catholicism. This meant that discrimination was common ("...here there be monsters// But that's just from what I've been told").

But lost the kid on the way to the mark

Or digging yourself in a hole?

I like to think that this part is talking about how Adrian lost his happy go lucky attitude after arriving in NYC and experiencing all the shit going on at the time ("Maybe you found that spot on the map// But lost the kid on the way to the mark"). Instead of living the life of his dreams, Adrian was dragged into criminality which didn't end well for him ("Tell me now were you digging for gold// Or digging yourself in a hole?")

Now tell me “now, where’s the head in the clouds?”

Not official but I'm thinking this part could be talking about the oc that @gummygoatgalaxy is currently working on for the Helluverse. Hopefully once we figure out a story for them.

In Hell now. Adrian sold his soul to Alastor for power and to make a name for himself. Something he never did when he was alive. The word "jaded" is pretty interesting here. It means bored or lacking enthusiasm usually after having too much of something. However, it's also Irish slang for being physically tired or exhausted. In this context, it could be Adrian saying he's bored of being Alastor's pet as much as he denies it...but also physically tired of it.

In Hell and under contract by Alastor, Adrian ends up being the Hazbin Hotel's butler because according to Alastor it was necessary. It isn't Adrian's dream job but surely he can learn to embrace it...right?

What is it with Hazbin Hotel and adorable bug demons??? Her antennae are adorable. She's definitely got that 50s look. Omfg she's got mandibles. I'm definitely interested in her lore and her character in general. Idk if this just a design choice but I wanna know why she's only got one pupil. Did she die due to an eye related injury???

Asha headcanons because I said so

- Is that one relative who will spew the most unhinged shit at family gatherings

- Has most definitely tripped over her own hair before. Will never admit it.

- Sleeps anywhere except her bed

- Her hair is poofy because of: A, her genes. B, Viva constantly braiding it.

- Speaking of braids, trying to get Asha to do anything with her hair is like putting a feral cat in a bath.

- Hates podcasts. Sees it as the cheap copy to the masterpiece that is radio. Grumbles to herself in the background as Bruce listens to true crime podcasts.

- Also hates media in general if it isn't radio. In her eyes, TV is fake. The radio is where it's at.
