It Seriously Bothers Me When People Make A Fuss About Labels. If Someone Wants To Use A Lot Of Labels

It seriously bothers me when people make a fuss about labels. If someone wants to use a lot of labels to describe themselves that is their personal, inoffensive choice and you shouldn’t get mad over it.

“Oh but you aren’t a product on a shelf, you shouldn’t let that define you, labels aren’t that important”

For you! And your experience isn’t universal! There are various reasons for one to use labels, including having a better understanding of themselves. I literally lived in a limbo of not understanding and pushing myself way too hard, to the point where I would hurt myself before I was labeled as autistic and discovered the label asexual.

Labels are quite useful and important to some. If they not for you, that’s valid! But don’t disregard their importance to others or shame people who use them.

The thing about Ghoulia ableist connotations being dealt with by removing her disability coded traits kinda rubs me the wrong way.

Like I get why they removed them, but there are other ways they could have made her a non speaking/non verbal character without it being overly stereotypical.

They could literally just make her a deaf person who struggles with speech and relies on sign language. Or something else, there are many disabilities that can lead to someone being non speaking/nonverbal.

I just feel like a positive exploration of Ghoulia’s disability would be way more interesting than erasing it.

What annoys me about debates about Hazbin Hotel and Heartstopper is how people conveniently forget to mention that the creators are lgbt when they claim they are fetichizing gay men.

I get it, fujoshis can be lgbt, but being part of the community actually adds a lot of context to their narrative decisions.

Why does Hazbin Hotel have so many lgbt characters? Maybe that’s because the creators wants to represent herself and her community, not because she finds them hot or whatever.

Why do the characters from Heartstopper seem so sexless? Maybe it’s because the creator doesn’t feel sexual attraction and her experiences reflect in the work, not because she wants to write uwu fluff perfect gays.

If you wanna argue about whether or not it’s good representation, fine, but not acknowledging the creator’s orientation feels like a really scummy tactic in these kinds of debates.

Edit: Note how both Vivzie and Alice have orientations that are very often ignored and deemed as “not queer enough” in the lgbt community (bisexual and aroace respectively).

I dream of being an animator because I love the art form. But also because I’m sure these people will get me.
