Später, im 17. Jahrhundert, wurden sie allgemein Bosjesmans genannt. Aufgrund ihrer relativ hellen Haut und der Augenfalten hatte man zuerst angenommen, sie seien ursprünglich aus Asien eingewandert. Aber Studien über Felszeichnungen, alte Knochen und die biologischen Strukturen der heutigen Buschmänner lassen darauf schließen, dass sie tatsächlich aus Ost- und Süd-Afrika stammen und schon vor über 20.000 Jahren hier lebten.

Bushmen, now called “San”, represent a small population that once inhabited large parts of southern Africa. The first white settlers found these hunters on the southwestern Cape. Later, in the 17th century, they were commonly called Bosjesmans. Because of their fairly light skin and eye wrinkles, it was initially thought that they originally immigrated from Asia. But studies of rock carvings, old bones, and the biological structures of today’s Bushmen suggest that they actually come from East and South Africa and that they lived here over 20,000 years ago.
