I'm Telling You This Because I'm Struggling With It, Too.
<3
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TWO CENTS, I REALLY NEEDED IT
Yeah! I think it's the tunnel vision we get sometimes, because I'll look back at my story and think "I actually did a pretty good job." It's also how we don't get immediate gratification in writing like we're used to.
We have to spend hours over a single project, creating and raising it, and it's scary both posting it and also not receiving an immediate "good job!" because that's not how it works. But at the same time, it's so, so rewarding.
The fact that I'm my first target audience hit me hard. It's true-I have to enjoy what I write because I do write for myself first, while also thinking of others.
i'm telling you this because i'm struggling with it, too.
stop second guessing and doubting yourself. stop getting imposter syndrome while writing. stop comparing.
i know it's hard to stop, and this is a process i always struggle with. but it's awful when you get tunnel vision, seeing all the plot holes and every little grammatical error made. i open my wip's sometimes, and get such bad anxiety that i can't even write, because i'm so scared. it literally doesn't make sense, but it happens.
but learn to love what you write. grow attached to your characters, and write whatever you want. write for yourself first. and no matter what, whether it's one word or sentence that you wrote that day, be proud of yourself.
self validation and self care comes before a completed novel or mesmerizing characters.

Jungkook despises families. Correction: yours. Not his. No, his family is nice and pleasant, the atmosphere always filled with laughter and teasing. It’s yours he hated.
Your parents barely even sees you as a human being—more like a bank account—pouring their love onto your brother instead of you. The constant criticism your mother spat through the phone, loud enough that even he overheard it on several occasion, are words that you shouldn’t say to anyone, much less you. Every time he sees your mother calling, he wants to rip the phone away from you, and tuck you in his embrace. But he restrains himself. Barely.
Like now.
“Why don’t you give money to your brother? Do you not even care for him?” Your mother says, and he balls his hands into fists, chin on your shoulder as he eavesdrops.
“I give money to you for you to give it to him,” you say quietly. “And frankly, it’s money I earned.”
“Your brother wants—”
“I’m not his mother. I’ve always asked for something, and you loved telling me no. Why can’t it be the same for him?”
Both of you know the answer: because he’s a boy. Jungkook’s heart aches for you when you wince at the string of curses your mother yells at you, along with the You’re so ungrateful, and the Why did I even raise you if you’re going to be this way. He also knows that in a few seconds, your mother will amend it with a I’m just worried about you, and you’ll reluctantly give her your money, holding back your tears.
He doesn’t need to visit the family to see the dynamic. It’s evident in the way that every time he tries to buy you something or give you a gift, you shake your head and soon—reluctantly—accept it. Sometimes, you’d stare at a dress or a desktop, scrolling through and waiting for the prices to go down.
Your mother didn’t give you anything. And you learned not to ask, thinking it would overstep people’s boundaries.
The more she talks, the more your face falls, and he can’t take it anymore. Without hesitance, he presses the red button that’ll end the call and buries his face in the crook of your neck, pulling you forward so that you’re sitting on his lap.
“She's going to give you hell for that,” you whisper.
“Don’t care. I have no intentions of meeting her, anyways.” He brushes a hair from your eyes. “I don’t want to meet someone who treats you like crap—when you’re the furthest thing away from it.”
It’s also clear that you’re not used to compliments, because you press your lips together and your eyes well with tears.
“Oh, baby,” he croons, and you release a sob, slapping your hand over your mouth. The tears betray the composure you’re struggling to maintain, streaming down your cheeks. Jungkook places his mouth on your forehead. It’s like someone’s choking him, making him unable to breathe. The hurt you experience every time a member of your family calls drives him insane, knowing that he’s helpless and can’t fix the issue.
Fuck. Can’t they see that you’re struggling to even love yourself? They should be praising you, except they’re doing the exact opposite.
“I love you,” he whispers. “You’re my favorite person in the world, you know that?”
“You don’t need to say that, Jungkook,” you choke out. “I’m okay.”
“No, you’re not.” The words are harsh. “And you shouldn’t be, with how they’re treating you. But you have to know that you’re better than that—than them. You deserve all the love I have in the world. You’re smart. You’re worth it. You’re mine. I love waking up and knowing that I’m yours, knowing that I get to spend quality time with you—”
And he falters, watching the disbelief on your face. Jungkook’s lips grazes yours.
“Everything about you is perfect, baby. Don’t ever doubt yourself.”
“I wish—” You swallow. “I wish I knew you earlier.”
In high school, you’re talking about. He wishes he did, too. Going back in time and giving you confidence and loving you before any assholes did would be the perfect fix. Though neither of you can turn back time, he murmurs his agreement.
“I love you. Now and forever.”
“Forever,” you echo, a small smile on your lips. The tears are still falling, and he understands that you’re overwhelmed.
And as you snuggle with him, he’s honored that you can be this comfortable with him to show your vulnerable side. Grateful that he’s the one taking care of you, instead of someone else. Blessed, to call you his.
kate sharma doesn't confess her feelings, she just gives you the iconic "i'm in love with you look" conveyed through her eyebrows
i love this couple lmao

hahahaha
HALLO!! So, I recently followed you per that writeblr friends post of yours and I have bad memory so I need to connect your stories you you as fast as possible. So, here’s the plan, a fact for a fact.
In my story, Plains, Ether, Hearth, the main character is named Rowan and he is endlessly curious and confused. He is well known for being able to hear buildings speak and for being raised by the demon creatures out in the wild.
Now, can I hear about your main character? Or any random fact about any of your stories really :)
hi there! thank you so much for the ask xx
ooh yeah! I didn't really talk about my works/characters in the post because I wanted to hear more about everyone else haha. it was a great way for me to stan new characters and literally cry/laugh/fangirl over all your writings! thank you for participating, by the way.
HEAR BUILDINGS SPEAK? I'm actually really curious to see how this works haha.
My character Hyeri struggles with expressing herself, and is mainly always confused, but she has too much pride to say otherwise. She's constantly caught between trying to fit in with her parent's (and her) culture-Korea-and America. To be honest, she feels more American than she does Korean, which she hates, but there's so many aspects that she struggles with, from the language to the mannerisms. She's scared to ask for help, and it's just a mixture of her trying to sort out whether she likes or hates this country while dealing with her family haha.
Most books have main characters that can't really fit in with American values, but I've never really seen it the other way around, and I think most bilingual or people with parents directly from that culture deal with that issue (I know I have).
Sorry this explanation got pretty long! If you have another random fact about your story or character, I'd love to hear it!
