Oh to be a confused stranger who gets randomly approached by Zim looking for somewhere to vent about whatever’s pissing him off that particular day

You cannot imagine how hard at work I’ve been off and on for the last half a month

And I’m talking about ALL this and then some

You know what? I’m tired of hearing about soulmates.

Can I hear some commotion in the club for soul enemies? For destined rivals and loathing at first sight? For tearjerking tradegies about star-crossed nemeses and duos who both give it their all to destroy the other, yet can’t find the strength to carry on in their abscence? The twisted, poetic dance between two people that can’t even tell who they are anymore without their adversary- their forever opponent, and no one else’s. And the best part is how, even knowing that true victory and defeat both would throw all of this away, they will still keep playing that game to win. They’ll pursue that chase even when it means they may loose their ability to connect with the more reasonable, peaceful world around them. Because they wanted so badly for more than that, and they found someone who doesn’t only understand that part of them, but respects them for it- in fact, needs them for it just the same. For better or worse.

Funniest thing actually is that GIR’s not the only one he does this with either.

If you ask me, he does know/remember their names but is just so awkward at the thought of engaging with them directly that he can’t bring himself to treat them with that sort of respect lmao

Like, robots on earth probably haven’t actually gotten to the point of genuine sentience and personhood the way in which GIR is. To him, these are just advanced things Zim made or uses, at most charitable perspective like… pet attack dogs. I don’t think Dib wants to let himself forget that fact, so long as he needs to see them as these cartoonishly evil pawns that he mentally sweeps onto the same side of the battle as Zim. Even if that’s not what they actually are, it’s important to his narrative/hero complex.

Am I the only one amused by the fact that Dib never bothers to learn GIR’s name?
