I Always Dislike It When People Say That Show Ellie Is Too Annoying Or Bratty Or Hostile.
I always dislike it when people say that show Ellie is too ‘annoying’ or ‘bratty’ or ‘hostile’.
There’s three main reasons for this:
1, she’s a scared kid. She’s never been shown love and had to act tough as a defense. She just had to kill her bestie/gf and was chained to an AC unit for two weeks, just to be pawned off to two people she’d never met who just threatened to kill her. It makes perfect sense she’d be on edge at first, and we see her open up more and become more comfortable with Joel (and Tess to a lesser extent) as the series goes on.
2, I think the thing that makes me love TLOU HBO so much is just how real all of the characters are (TLOU video game too, but it’s a very different medium where there is less realism most of the time). Everything that characters do, every emotional response they have, makes perfect sense because of their personalities and histories. It’s really incredible writing, if you look at it all. It feels real, and is still so wholesome and tragic at the same time. I think it’s really special, and I think Ellie’s response is also incredibly real and well written. I don’t think it makes Ellie less endearing or adorable at all.
3, don’t be mean to Ellie I love her and she’s my lil’ fictional friend🥲

Is there anything better than ‘chaotic kid’ & ‘(outwardly) calm dad’ found family relationships? Romantic relationships are great and all, but no kiss will ever bring me as much joy to watch as ‘father-kid-bonding-time’.
Write all the beautiful monologues you want, there is nothing better than:
“Whoaaaa, this is so cool!”
“OHMYGODDON’TTOUCHTHAT—”
It can’t be beaten, sorry. I love them all to an unhealthy degree.
Write Like a Sadist: Tips and Tricks for Torturing Your Ships!
Hello and welcome back to WLAS! The place to be if you want everyone reading your stories to suffer!
Tip 1: Does your ship have issues? Big issues? Such as fundamentally different worldviews or polar opposite ways of thinking? Many ships do, and in a good story that ends in a confrontation that either brings them closer or pushes them to break up, well we hear at WLAS don’t write good stories, we write ‘fuck you’ stories! Have there be a major source of contention that both of your characters tip-toe around and snap at each other about and NEVER resolve it! There should be NO catharsis! DO NOT CATHART!!! Tip 2: Does one of your characters have a significant amount of trauma? I bet they do! One way to make your readers scream at you through the pages of your story is to have that character open up about it to their love interest, only for the love interest to be a massive asshole about it! It may ruin that character and the whole relationship, but as we always say at WLAS, ‘make everyone suck and be awful all the time, no exceptions’.
That’s all for today, folks! And remember, writing isn’t about relationships, it’s about destroying them!
Starting a tumblr blog because I’m on AO3 and everyone else has one. I dunno what I’m supposed to do with this. I just caved to completely self-inflicted peer pressure 😭👍
C’mon snails! Slow and steady wins the race! SNAIL! SNAIL! SNAIL! SNAIL FOR THE WIN!!!
🐛 caterpillar - the returning champion of the 2023 race at 41.6% of the votes
🐌 snail - runner up of the 2023 race at 38.3%, only 3.3% behind the caterpillar.
🪱 worm - placed last in 2023, with only 20.1% of votes
🪲 beetle, 🐞 ladybug, and 🐝 bee are new competitors!
One of these is a fun-loving kid who got saddled with a grumpy old guy on a dangerous journey and helps him learn how to love again and goes through immense trauma because of a guy they meet who’s abusive to his followers and seems nice enough at first but is NOT… the other is from a fricken’ zombie tv show
