A teensy bit late for #fossilfriday in my own timezone but it's not too late for some of you! Here's a part of my collection of actual fossils; some from where i grew up here in Buskerud, Norway, and some are from the Jurassic Coast, England. First up, there's the two ammonites...or bivalvs?...or..mollusks.. that i found while on a fossil trip when in 2007, from the Jurassic Coast, which is a famously fossil rich coastline in England, UK. The rest of the fossils are from Norway, where the majority of fossils you can find are mollusks of various forms, and some trace fossils of early sea creatures. The largest fossil found here I believe was a 0.3 - 1 meter long eurypterid, or seascorpion as they're known as (tho icthyosaurs, plesiosaurs, and a pliosaur dubbed "predator x" and other Jurassic marine life has been found on the Norweian governed part of Svalbard). These mollusks i excavated myself as a child from rocks right outside my yard with a regular hammer or other rocks. Some i could just poke right out of the rock. Soo.. i thought i saved my little forest creek diorama from the summer sun, but turnes out it got too hot in the cabinet as well😓 I believe the water effect i used was too thick compared to what is advised on the bottle, so that may have had something to do with it too? I learned a lot from it and got some nice photos of it anyway, so it's not that big a loss. Oh well! Next up on the unicorn tree, we have an, as of now, unnamed species, descended from the unoceratherium (2 image). This species was more adapted to open grasslands than it's predecessors and the two last lines of unicorns, both its descendants, or very close relatives. The previously three hoofed feet are now mainly monodactylous, it's other digits being lifted off the ground, like the artiodactyle posterially positioned toes. It's horned is larger, slightly curved, and is now "twisted" in a corkscrew manner. This species likely went extinct from preassure by climate, hunting, and being out competed by bovids and cervids, and also the other equids like the larger wild horse. . Still a wip, but here is a long promised update on the kelenken sculpt 2.0. Been working on it on and off for a while now, and i keep running into problems with it. I think the glue in the masking tape i foolishly tried to use again (after learning not to while making the platybelodon), has been deteriorating the bulk layer of clay, and the the bulk layer has been drying out and cracking up the outer layer😓 so much back and forth and so much material..
