TIME

she is powerful beyond belief

lending a trickle of water the ability to wear away even the mightiest of rocks

and allowing the smallest of shoots to become the tallest of trees

we are all victims of her every whim

yet also recipients of her most precious gifts

for I often feel as though time herself

might just be standing still

when I see you

she lets me know the contours of your body

until I could trace your face from memory even on the darkest of nights

she lets me learn the pattern of your breath

and the beating of your heart

until I would recognise the sound amongst a crowd of thousands

but when my time is all used up

when she has ravaged every part of my being

and scattered them far and wide

I hope amongst those fragments

pieces of you still stand.

HEATWAVE

side by side

in your kitchen

in your bed

i could stay like this forever

your hands hot against my skin

a heat felt right down to my soul

and she melts so easily

under the warmth of your regard

in the darkness of the night

fingers blaze against naked skin

and i still feel the lingering ghost

of your lips against my own

a kiss to keep me warm

until the next heatwave comes.

WASTELAND

standing alone in a wasteland, baby

the wreckage of our love strewn all around

all I used to know has been burnt to the ground

and I all see

amongst the blinding ash and smoke

is an absence of you

I would have loved you until the sun burned out

until all that remained of earth and heaven

had wasted away

but instead here I am

the barren emptiness of your heart

the only part of you I have left

and yet I'm still in love with you.

MOONLIGHT

she is a woman of the night

the darkness is her domain

and within its infinite blackness

she shines in all her glory

a milky sheen amongst a thousand sparkling pinpricks decorating the heavens above

she bathes in the glow of her faraway lover

reflecting every ounce of warmth

the illumination evidence of their everlasting love

that surrounds us each and every night

so strong it moves the very waves

that wash upon our shores

i lie awake and listen to their soothing harmony

steady as a heartbeat

and hope with all my heart

to one day know a love like that.

although i may have had lovers in the past

their beauty seems to fade as time goes by

time well spent

with you beside me

and i'm convinced i've never been loved by someone like you

nobody who could even comes close.

PRETTY BOY

he's so pretty

long hair and smooth skin

flat planes of muscle where i have curves

he wears waistcoats and dress pants as formal attire

instead of dresses that never seem to fit quite right

his hands are strong and sure

instead of slightly out of place

glittery painted nails a show of brave defiance

rather than a shield for insecurity to dwell behind

i see his face in the mirror before me

the image of an angel rising from the glass

if only my skin could be shaped like clay

molded perfectly to his likeness

maybe one day

i'll be pretty the way he is.

TO BE LOVED

it's only a casual touch

maybe a hand there

brushing back her hair

an arm curved around her shoulders

shielding her

as though she's the most precious thing you've ever held

a physical closeness

something so simple

and then she tucks her head into the space under your chin

like she belongs there

pressed against the heart that beats for her alone

and it's like a puzzle piece slotted into place

oh how lovely it must feel

to be loved like that

FROZEN

what i wouldn't give

to stay forever in this moment with you

the way you look in that dress

with the sun catching at the colours in your hair

sets my soul ablaze

i just can't take my eyes off you

an enternity could stretch before us

lazy days lying in the hot summer sun

and quiet nights listening to the sound of the rain

as it washes the whole world clean

we'll make it there eventually

but here in this moment

your fingers grasping mine

as we sway in the breeze

time will be frozen for us

SOMEDAY

the warmth of someone new

washes away the chill of your absence

the time you thought that i'd be wasting

is bright and overflowing with possibility

and i know i'll be over you soon

cos i've been grieving for a while now

maybe i never had you anyways

we may have been picture perfect

but the moment's faded

and now only the memories remain

of somebody i can no longer seem to find

the heart that was once yours

still belongs to me

a little battered a little bruised

but she's back home in my chest now

she's gonna be just fine

and honey someday i'll be over you

END OF THE LINE

did you love me

or did i simply love you first

did you ever love me the way i loved you

heart and soul

until the very end of the line

do you miss me

or am i simply another blip on your radar

as you hurtle recklessly through the solar system of life

i was an aesteroid that clung to the sphere of your gravity

craving to be incorporated within you

but you remained periously beyond my reach

so it seems we've reached the last stop

easy is the descent they say

but i can feel my heart breaking a little more

with every step

CLEOPATRA

we were tragic from the beginning

i knew you could tell

always a little late

a fall that would've impressed the greats

and although we've said our goodbyes now

darling i must admit

you'll always be my Cleopatra

and without a shadow of a doubt

i would've married you in an instant

damn your wife

i would've been your mistress

just to have kept you around

but that's all in the past now love

so i'll pick out a coffin

and wear my best black dress

just to stand here in the rain

and lay our love to rest

MOMENTS

i used to want to make the most of every moment

but when I'm with her it feels like time stands still

all my moments blur together

an endless happy haze lying cradled in her arms

by her side

and suddenly how i spend each moment doesn't seem to matter

as long as they're spent with her

SOLACE

i seek solace in her arms

when the days have all come to an end

and the nights settle around us

so tired my body barely feels alive

but i don't close my eyes

not wanting to spend another moment

without her by my side

and when my head reaches its final resting place

nestled in the hollow of her throat

i know in my heart

that no grave can hold my body down

i'll always crawl home to her

BEAUTIFUL

they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder

and all i see is beauty when she looks at me

the curve of her cheek

and how it fits perfectly in my hands

when they cradle her face

to me she is always beautiful

so much so it hurts

and yet i never manage to look away

they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder

and i feel the most beautiful when she smiles at me

ON MY KNEES

love can make you weak

the pathetic fragility of our human hearts stripped down and on display

but i long to bare my soul to yours

so here i am on my knees

begging for you to stay another minute

and yet i treasure the precious feeling of vulnerability

there is an insurmountable strength in my weakness for you

even if the cold lonely nights seem endless

and as i lay still in the darkness my whole body yearns for your touch

your absence makes my heart grow infinitely fonder

with every passing day

they say love makes you fight harder for what you want

and all i ever wanted was you

i look up to her in awe

my everything

the devotion i have for her spills forth like a tidal wave

sweeping away my sight

my hearing

everything around us washed away to blackness

every one of my senses reduced to only her

she is the only thing that ties me to this earth

i want to worship her altar on my knees

for there's nothing i believe in

the way i believe in her

i want you to want me the way lovers do

the feel of my body under yours the only thought that plagues your mind

deep into the night when everything else is lost to the depths of your subconscious

hot and flushed and panting

the touch of my bare skin branded into your very being

i want you to crave me the way lovers do

the need a never ceasing pull at your very core

a hunger that only i can satiate

i want you to know me the way lovers do

heart and mind and body and soul

all the fragmented pieces stitched together by the threads of your affection

the dark twisted corners of my heart laid bare for your regard

but more than anything else

i want you to lean on me the way lovers do

let me bear the burden of your heavy heart

if only for tonight

an angel or a lover

maybe a devil in disguise

i'm all dressed up tonight

my bad decisions stacking up like numbers on the dice

the hands of fate keep rolling and the money's changing hands

my choices all decided for me

before i even have the strength to stand

it only took a look from you

from then on I was entranced

it felt like fire when we touched

a blaze of hands on thighs

the lights around us pulsing in the darkness like a disembodied heart

a saint or a sinner

no one can say for sure

all i know is every taste leaves me wanting more

A SUMMER AFTERNOON

your breath is soft against my neck

a whispering sigh slipping through your lips

the gentlest of summer breezes

I trace the planes of your face

your shoulders

your hands

first with my eyes

drinking in the sight of you laid so bare

trying in vain to capture the complete essence of your image in my mind

those same lines i now follow with my lips

leaving you marked by the invisible

yet invincible evidence of my devotion

an attempt to imprint the impression of your body onto my own

while the sweet melody of our love plays softly in the distance

like a lullaby in the late afternoon sun

INVISIBLE STRING

a little red string

tied in a bow

for years it was my empty companion

hanging limp and slack

no matter my efforts

to pull and push

twisting and turning

i tried my very hardest to wrap around those i thought i loved most

and then i met you

and now everytime i see your smile

the tug on my heartstrings

mirrors the tug on my hand

the invisible string tying you to me

A FALL FROM GRACE

if she is to be my most abominable sin

i welcome my retribution with a warm embrace

i would gladly die a thousand deaths

by flame or sword

just for her to have my heart

and hold hers in return

our love burns brighter than a falling star

and fall we do

wings aflame

our descent splitting the sky in two like a gaping open wound

her laughter ringing through the air

as clear and bright as the oncoming dawn

she is the goddess that i would worship on my knees

and yet together we walk

through the winding path of life

never straying beyond the reach

of an outstretched arm

fingers intertwined

and hearts entangled

the two lovers standing hand in hand

their love burning bright and everlasting like a captured falling star

your reflection caught in the glass

my favourite work of art

i could study you for hours

learning the curves of your face

your neck

your waist

but you’re even more beautiful as art come alive

tossing your hair

as we dance like fools beneath the starlight

SLEEPLESS

i can’t sleep

thinking about you

i know if i close my eyes

your likeness would fill my dreams

memories and hopes and everything in between

but darling nothing can compare

to holding you in my arms
