Soultember Prompt 1: Red String of Fate

Fandom : The Dragon Prince

Waring: Canon Character Death

Summary: Harrow didn't need Viren to tell him his wife had been killed by Thunder, he already knew she was gone.

Queen Sairi was the love of King Harrow's life. They were bound together by fate. When they walked, hand in hand, a red string hung down slightly from their pinky fingers. No matter how difficult life was they knew they had each other.

When Viren told Harrow that there was a way to save the people of Duren and Katolis from the death that would come with the horrible winter, he felt it was the only solution. Maybe it was.

Despite Sarai's protest, a few soldiers and the leaders of the two kingdoms left to retrieve the heart of the titan.

Harrow was unsure when the fight began if they would emerge victorious. When the titan fell everything was worth it. The uninjured assessed the injured and they were ready to go.

It was a selfless mission. But sacrifices must be made to save a kingdom. A few people for tens of thousands seemed only far.

Then he appeared. The king of the dragons was angry. Why were humans on his side of the border? What did they need and what did they destroy?

When the queens of Duren fell, it felt like the whole world shook for just a moment. Then Viren tried to by them time. The head mage was a strong man but without him the sacrifice of the queens was for nothing.

Sarai was a strong women. There was no doubt in Harrow's mind that she would return to him. The string that held them together would shorten as they took hands once more. They would return home and would dance in their room, watching the string as they tried to tangle it around themselves, just to see if they could.

Harrow wanted her ride away. He looked at the tine red line that never let them play a fair game or hide and seek and smiled.

As the soldiers approached their side of the border the king felt his finger start to burn.

    Snap.

Harrow felt a sharp pain in his pinky finger. The long red string that once connected him to his Queen had broken.

This couldn't be right. Any moment now Sarai would come back up the hill, back to him. She had to. Harrow wasn't sure he could do this without her. He wasn't sure how he'd live on or how he'd explain to his sons what happened to their mother.

The string tied itself into a neat bow, the excess hanging maybe an inch off of his finger. Harrow's heart felt like it stopped beating. Sarai was gone, his love was gone.

Viren walked up the hill, confirming the news. Three mothers had died that day. The mage looked at Harrow's hand, a red string now visible, "I'm so sorry."

Harrow said nothing. Tears fell silently down his face. They fell to the ground as others went to retrieve the three bodies from the field.

He fidgeted with the short tail of the string unconsciously as the three women were brought up the hill. The walk home felt shorter and longer than it had felt before. Harrow wouldn't remember most of it.

It was fate for the two to fall in love. Who knew fate could be so cruel.

(part 1)

Name: ?

Known as: The Trickster Goddess of Love

Powers: She can control the red soul mate (romantic soul mate) strings of fate

Role: Sexy villain

Additional notes:

She could step on me in 6 in heels and I'd say "thank you" and "fuck me" in that order.

She uses her powers to cause heartbreak and chaos on a large scale for fun.

Her power, unknown to her, isn't effective on aromantic people. The best she can do in that situation is start a super close friendship. This will eventually annoy the fuck out of her as my aro and ace heroes laugh hysterically and defeat her using The Power of Friendship™️.

Mikrokosmos pt.1

The world couldn't have known,

how you and I would come together.

How you and I could know each other,

and intertwine.

Crestfallen, the world could do nothing,

stand and watch in despair,

as we defied, challenged,

and disregarded all of its plans.

You and I, held onto nothing around us,

creating our own rules, writing our story.

I'd say the thread of fate had nothing on us,

our spirits interwoven in red.

And yes, one would think and ponder,

On how the world watched on in wonder.

And even if it knew the story of our fate,

It would not make the mistake,

of putting our galaxies at stake.

It would only try to berate

and never tell this tale,

petrified of our melody, sweeter

than that of a nightingale.

Waiting on the red string of fate

Waiting On The Red String Of Fate

Tanya Denali x fem!reader

SUMMARY: a red string of fate for a vampire is a lot of waiting for the continuation of that string, one stops waiting to enjoy life and then the other end comes along looking for her, how will it go to learn the one you waited for stops waiting...

A/N: First attempt at ever writing a fic, so sorry if it's not great. I'm not good with timelines and it's been at least a good decade since I've read twilight, so if aspects of the story are inaccurate sorry, I only really wrote this cause the idea got stuck in my head and wouldn't stop until I wrote this out. Most of it's just how one would go about life with a red string of fate

Angst?-ish Idk

Don't really know how to end this story. Perhaps I'll make a part 2. Perhaps I won't idk

[update:I've got ideas on how to end this story now, prepare for multiple routes some angsty depending]

Masterlist

part 2

Part 3

Chapter 1: Waiting on the red string of fate

When Tanya was little, she'd stare at the unattached string blowing in the wind that sat on her finger.

A muted dull shade of red.

What did this mean? Did she just not have a soulmate in the world? were they gone before she had the chance to meet them?

Or perhaps they had yet to be born? That'd be quite an age difference between soulmates she'd think back then.

Now she was older, string still unattached, none of her questions were ever answered.

Unknowing to what it could mean with an unattached string all she could do was stare and wonder.

And then she was turned.

Her string was still the same after becoming a newborn, the yearning for a soulmate amplified but still her string was still cut off.

Traveling with Sasha and eventually obtaining her sister's Kate and Irina, all was fine as they went about their immortal lives.

Her sisters like her and Sasha all had strings detached from any potential mate and they truly understood eachother in this aspect, it brought them just a little closer to know they were the same in this way,

And then the immortal child incident happened. As much as Tanya wanted to just break down she knew she had to step up as the leader of the coven now as the first bitten, her sisters needed her.

But the pain from the loss of Sasha grew within the coven, the world seemed cruel from at first the lack of a mate to now the loss of their mother.

Eventually, Tanya had chosen to do something to deal with it all, seeking out pleasure with others after hearing some info.

Over time and over centuries having heard from other vampires that they met on their travels, those that eventually found their mate, the chances of this happening could take centuries for some and others said that fate had brought their mate to them. With the grief and desire for connection in that moment and not wanting to wait, Tanya and her sisters decided why not seek out some fun whilst waiting who knows how long. So they went about seeking out humans who rather didn't seem to care about the concepts of waiting for a fated soulmate, those people who chose looking for connection right there, right then, rather than who knows how long. Their encounters with their prey lead to the succubus legend forming, not that they cared.

Some centuries later the sisters had desired something more with the mortals rather than immediately feeding off them after their one night stands, a little more of the connection they seek from the yearning and desire for their mate that they had yet to believe were here, judging from their still unattached strings.

Seeking some type of solution to their issue of the need to feed Tanya went off to sate her desire on the blood of the forest animals nearby, finding it working well enough to continue their dynamic with the humans. So then their little group slowly transitioned over to animal blood.

Over time, they met many others on their travels, eventually a mated couple tied together, curious of their diet decided on joining their little family.

Eventually time passed and within the 1700s Kate was the first to realize her string lead off somewhere, her chosen had finally come about.

The first in their little family (besides carmen and eleazar) the sisters happy for her, their small group decided to go off trying to find where Kate's match could be, only to find the string leading off into the ocean. Figuring they were on another continent they chose to depart their old homeland they'd been on for centuries and set sail off to a new place, who knows what they would find whilst boarding a boat for America.

On their travels avoiding the conflict happening and looking for Kate's mate, which yielded no results no matter where they looked the 1700s eventually transitioned over to the 1800s and Kate could only feel her hope dwindling, their little family did their best to comfort her but knowing mortal lifespans and with that war that happened who knows what could have happened to kate's mate's fate. The sisters did their best to comfort her in her downcast mood. Eventually she stopped in her looking, not everyone met their fated and she had so hoped she would meet them before their mortal lifespan ran out, hoping that giving up the search the fates will bring whoever they are to her, the century passed and it wasn't like her mates thread showed any sign of potentially ending which gave Kate enough hope. For then Kate continued her life, one day she'll find her mate she thought to herself.

Through the land they traveled they eventually craved a more permanent residence, some place to eventually call home. After such searches being resultless, slowly ending up on their way to the west coast around the 1900s they come across another group of vampires, surprised at the fact their groups shared a vegetarian diet they decided on traveling together for a while. Tanya's eye catching the brooding loner of the group, one much like her and her sisters with no mate attached yet, her interest in him peaked when he showed disinterest, a challenge in her mind, though her attempts to form some sort of connection with him went nowhere and lead to inevitable rejection which frustrated her.

Eventually parting ways Tanya's group decide to head where the Cullen's had come from, Denali, Alaska.

Here Tanya decided it would be an okay place to settle down and call it their home for a good while, and so that's where they stayed and where the Denali coven was born.

Pov change: Her fated

Sometime in the 2000s

As a little girl you had always wondered who could be your soulmate, your parents said they were already in the world somewhere when you were born with the string around your little finger.

You couldn't help but wonder how old were they? A couple months? A year older? Were they waiting for you too? as you were waiting for them, you played with the vibrant red string. Imagining what kind of person they could be when you grew up.

You couldn't help but push aside the desire of teenage crushes as you grew, a hopeless romantic at heart after reading too many stories of how people meet their fated and the magical feeling of finally meeting your destined. Was it too hopeful? Probably, but who cares? Not you at the time.

At the age of 20, that summer you chose to take a gap year at your university to travel, hopeful in seeking your destined. Filled with hope that maybe they too were looking for you, how naive you were then you think when looking back.

Your string had lead you far from home, leading you outside of a club in a randoom city in Alaska. Heading inside and following the string with your eyes you couldn't help but feel out of place, heart pounding rapidly whether from the adrenaline of finally meeting "the one" or the anxiety of the atmosphere of the nightclub and the amount of people here which was not your scene.

As your eyes trailed after the string, you eventually see it lead to a hand, what you hoped vs what you saw broke your heart.

For there your red string lead to a hand that cupped another person's face as your soulmate kissed someone else. In your eyes from what you could see of her, she was beautiful. It felt like a dream to see her for the first time, but that which quickly soured to what she was doing.

She hadn't seen you but you saw her and couldn't help but stagger back.

You didn't know how to feel in that moment, you came in hopeful and now you were faced with heartbreak.

You had known not everyone in the world was like you and how some people chose not to wait, testing out relationships with other people rather than hoping the fates just dropped your destined in your lap, but from the relationships around you in your life, of your friends finding their matches to the fictional stories that you read, you couldn't help but hope for the same. But here reality decided to tie you to someone you guess didn't want to wait, and that just broke your heart a little more.

Perhaps she was the kind that didn't care for wanting a soulmate, perhaps she was in a relationship with whoever she was kissing.

Broken spirited, you turned to leave not wanting to be seen, going unnoticed by the one you had went to seek out. Perhaps you shouldn't have gone looking for her your thoughts suggested. Rushing out leaving the nightclub door swinging shut in your rush. Tears blurred your eyes as you felt like you forgot how to breathe.

Perhaps soulmates aren't worth looking for you thought as you wanted to get as far away from the cause of the pain in your heart as you could. Perhaps you shouldn't have gotten your hopes up, perhaps you shouldn't have hoped at all.

You rushed off thinking you still had all of the year to just travel and try to mend what's left of your broken heart.

Tanya's POV

It's been over a millenia at this point since her turn and over time she had subconsciously avoided ever looking at her string anymore, it's always been the same, unattached to anything. What's the point of checking? Some internal part of her couldn't help but still feel the yearning though for "the one", but her life was going good right now, they'd settled in Denali, they kept in touch with the Cullen's, occasionally Kate would venture off in search of her mate with no luck, but her string had shown no sign that her mate had fallen to the fate of a tragic mortal end so clearly something was up and she was hopeful.

It was one night at a club when things changed though, Tanya was working her way on getting with this person she just met, kissing them, but then she felt something. She tried to ignore it, but eventually she couldn't as the feeling reared its ugly head as she pushed the person away. Confusion wracked her mind as she tried to understand why she felt like so. Deciding to call it a night despite not being able to sleep she left the confused person with an apology on her lips.

The night passed and then more days and nights after followed but the same sensation would not leave her, why did she feel like her world was ending? Why did she feel something was horribly wrong.

In her pondering state in the living room,

Irina enters having returned from feeding and notices her sister's face, brows furrowed as she pouts. Clearly getting the sign that Tanya was off, she then notices her sister's string, it was no longer unattached, but she had noticed this before and just assumed Tanya knew already and chose to ignore it.

Perhaps her sister was considering going off to find her mate? Always an option and it has been a sufficient amount of time since its first appearance adoning her sisters finger, so she bring it up to her.

Tanya is broken from her concentration over her confused emotions to the sound of Irina voicing a question. Looking up at her she asks "what?" Before asking her to repeat what she said, and Irina asks again, "do you think you'll go look for your mate?"...silence, "my mate?" Confusion evident in her voice as she looks down at her hand, where there once was an unattached dull thread she had grown used looking at and then ignoring, now holds a vibrant red string connected to her finger. Trailing off to who knows where, realizing her mate was finally, finally in her life, all she could mutter was "oh....." before a wave of surprise hits her and she blurts out, "I have a mate,"

"Yeah? It's been a couple of years now? Perhaps a decade maybe two?" Irina said confused "did you not realize your string was suddenly leading off somewhere?"

Tanya couldn't help but feel embarrassed,

Her mate's been around for years and she hadn't realized. She realized her mate is out there and she can finally go meet the fated one she's always wondered about. Who they might be and how perfect they might be together.

The coven leader decides then and there that yes she would go find her mate.

Unknown to her the broken heart of her fated sat on the other end of the string.

(Maybe part 2)

Waiting on the red string of fate

Waiting On The Red String Of Fate

Tanya Denali x fem!reader

Chapter 2: searching for you and finding flowers in throats

Summary: Learning that your fated chose not to wait for you leaves you in Heartbreak. Can your situation get any worse? Yes, yes it can. How will you deal with the hand dealt to you now? Unknownst to you that Tanya is trying to find you.

A/N: dunno if anyone actually wanted a part 2 or more, but my brain decided to serve up multiple ends to this warnings: angst? ish I guess(if you know hanahaki tropes and don't like what they sometimes serve up? That's its own warning too I guess)

Here's part 2a(Hanahaki route). Read part one here: Part 1

Part 3

Waiting On The Red String Of Fate

Tanya's fated POV:

You thought when you originally planned to find and meet your soulmate, you'd take the time from the gap year to really get to know who the red string tied you to, but with a broken heart from seeing your soulmate kissing someone else you decided to take off back to your home, never giving them a chance to see that you had found them.

The room was dim, darkness consumed it with the light from your laptop being the only thing illuminating the dreary space, opened to a streaming service playing a movie you felt you couldn't sit through. The couple gets together hooray! A happy ending, you thought sarcastically, except romance and happy endings like that are apparently a bunch of baloney...

You couldn't help but feel another pang in your chest as the memories of that night kept returning, her blonde hair tied half up half down in an elaborate hairdo, her in a beautiful dark dress that worked wonderfully in the lights of the nightclub, her pale skin with the stark contrast of the red string on her hand caressing the face of someone else as she kisses them, questions of why? What ifs? Held back on the tip of your tongue,

Did she ever wait for you? Or did she never believe in the concept of "fated matches", something that you were quickly losing hope for.

...so many childhood dreams of finding her when she probably was never looking for you, the thought sent a stabbing pain to your chest.

You clutch the ache in your heart and then you couldn't help but feel a tickle in your throat, you can't help but cough....it's probably nothing.

So here you were...spending your days at home on the couch wallowing in a broken heart, the next couple of days however the tickle in your throat couldn't help but get worse as you started coughing like someone swallowing something and it going down the wrong windpipe. Perhaps you were getting sick? The cold medicine didn't help, and then one afternoon you felt something come up your throat as you cough into your hand a yellow petal. Looking down at it you couldn't help but feel confusion and fear hitting you.

You don't get to ponder long as another coughing fit hits you like a wave, slowly another petal comes into your hand. Uncertainty and despair hit you, what is going on? Deciding to try to get an answer to your question you go to the library nearby, looking under medical textbooks you eventually find after hours of searching and attempts at muffled coughs a stranger in the same section seeing you cough up a petal, pulling out a book and handing it to you before saying he's sorry for your situation and walking off. That book he handed you held the answer.

Hanahaki disease.

Great, first your soulmate didn't wait for you or want you and now you're sick, coughing up plants as a sign that it is infact unrequited love you have in your lungs. The fact that daffodil petals were coming up just signified it all.

You know you didn't even speak to her but the hopeless romantic in you even as a child always told yourself, you'd love her, the piles of letters you'd written growing up with questions and things you planned, things you'd want to share, a sign of your devotion to your unknown and the innocence of a first love that now sat in a little shoebox in your closet.

Reading through the pages of the hanahaki book and then eventually trying to use the library computers to find anything you could do about the flowers growing in your lungs you find 2 possible routes to take to the affliction growing in you.

Looking at the options you have you see the possibility to do the surgical procedure to remove it, which in turn takes away the feelings for your rejected love. Should you do it though? Maybe...maybe there's still hope and she'll come around? That little voice in you thought, the little aspect that still clung to maybe she'll come to find you eventually.

But you couldn't see that happening thinking back to the man she was kissing.

Your other option was to meet the fate of plants growing in your lungs and dying, not something you want to happen.

Yet the deeper you look at the possibility of a medical procedure and accounts of what people go through, the less inclined you feel to it. Hanahaki was somewhat rare in the world of soulmates where some people find their other half and others don't but it does happen with the wayward crush or falling for others, the people who posted potential after effects of the procedure, a percentage seemed OK, yet there were others with side effects, for some? memory lose along side the loss of these feelings, to others? mentioning feeling like they couldn't love or some other negative effects.

You weren't sure if you wanted to risk a potential eternal feeling like you couldn't love or be happy or memory loss entirely,

Spiraling into a loops of fearful what ifs

It didn't seem worth it.

So here you were with this accursed disease, and the inability to do nothing about it but eventually succumb to the end.

Stuck with an unrequited love that'll slowly destroy you.

The reality of the situation was the end to your fate, to your life. It was like those you only have 24 hours to live but for you, you have as long as you can with the plants in your lungs so now what were you gonna do?

Deciding there was still the rest of the gap year and however long you have you decide to travel, see what you've always wanted to see in the letters you wrote to her but never sent. Thinking back then you'd get the chance to travel with her and give the letters to her when you'd gotten to meet her.

Set on now using what little time you had left, you decided to go explore the world.

Perhaps you'll write some letters to her about your travels before you're gone, if she ever comes looking for you which you can't help but hope for but also doubt. Just a final send off series of goodbye letters as you live however long you've got. Not that you'll know if you'll ever get the chance to give these letters to her, you probably won't.

TANYA'S POV :

Tanya didn't know what was going on with her soulmate, it felt like in every time when she got closer to her, her soulmate would suddenly change directions and their thread would be leading in an entirely different location.

Like whoever they were was running at the possibility that she was close by, which is impossible, there's no way they could've known she was looking for them, but this traveling they were doing was starting to bug her, It would be especially difficult when they went to a sunnier part of the country or traveled off to a different continent entirely. What were they doing that made them go off on a world wide adventure?

The whole aspect of this was frustrating.

Was this how Kate felt when she goes out and can't find her fated?

God she misses her sisters, they at first decided to travel with her for a bit but eventually both returned home to Denali after one too many changes in direction.

It's been almost a year since her attempts to find whoever they are, and it feels like she's getting no closer to finding them. She started to feel hopeless and honestly wanted to try and give up, but this is who the fates tied her to and there was no way she'd go without meeting her fated. There was also the horrible sense of something wrong that wouldn't leave her, that drove her to figure out what the issue was. What was happening to her? Or to whoever she was tied to? She just had to know.

Eventually though one day whilst she was out and about she had the strongest sense to go in a different direction, a gut instinct to just turn around and start going in a different direction, and like the fates chose to have mercy on her, her string did infact change towards that direction her gut was telling her to go.

Now she was headed towards some random city, unknown to the situation of her soulmate that lay ahead

Waiting On The Red String Of Fate

Tanya Denali x fem!reader

Part 3a (Ending1/4[?]):Falling in flower fields never to meet

Summary: hospitalized and at the end of your rope what is there to do except a final goodbye.

A/N:Here's bad ending one of... Maybe two out of four? There will be more, eventually... Let's see how much I write before I run out of motivation or creativity.

This is the first ending of how I thought this whole story would end before the other endings came to be.

Sorry bout the sad end, I just like reading angst no happy endings occasionally and was like, why not try that here, place her in a box and shake lovingly but also despair.

Did this feel sad when I wrote it? Not to me, felt like there could've been more sadness, but chose not to dwell on it and just put it out there, so... here it is, Bon Appétit. There will be a happy ending eventually when I write the other ends.

Waiting On The Red String Of Fate

Her fated POV:

How did you get here is all you can wonder, as you realized you were somewhere unfamiliar, most likely a hospital room. It was cold and sterile, unfriendly and eerie. You'd just gotten up and noticed this.

The last thing you could recall was having recently gotten back home after feeling you had a really bad hanahaki coughing fit, cutting your grand plan adventure short.

Having made it home and realizing you didn't have any food you remember you were going to go out and pick up some take out, but then your memory at that point was everything getting hazy as you got outside. You can only assume you fainted and someone concerned noticed and called an ambulance.

So here you were now, awake in a place you didn't want to be. Breathing felt next to impossible currently. Every intake of air was hard on your lungs as your breathing was loud in the quiet room. Your voice was ragged and hoarse, having developed into this after so many times of having to cough up petals on your trips. Over time, some petals started to come with blood. You couldn't imagine what the state of damage your throat and lungs could be in this moment.

You could already feel another fit of coughs and flower petals nearing, like the feelings of a calm before a storm.

You feel like you should get up in case you do throw up, but the distance from the washroom to where your bed is feels like a chasm and you're not sure you can trek the distance there. This is the weakest you've felt since the hanahaki took over. Perhaps the end is near.

Pushing the call button hoping for someone to help you or just to see if you could get out of here, a nurse and a doctor eventually come in. The nurse checking your vitals as the doctor asks standard questions, you eventually tell him what you have and can see the look of pity on his face. He asks if you've considered going to tell whoever you like that you liked them and hope for reciprocated feelings, but you can only laugh, you don't even know who she is nor where she lives. There's a chance she could live somewhere in Alaska or maybe she was a tourist and you'd never find her again. You wouldn't do that, though she was clearly with someone that night. She probably didn't want you.

You do ask the nurse if you could have a pen and paper and the box full of letters you'd been carrying with you everywhere.

Eventually, she comes back with the things you'd asked for and leaves you to your writing. Perhaps this is the final letter? Maybe it's not. There were times on your trip you'd think, oh, this is it, but then you'd lived. Something about this though feels final, so you get to writing your final(?) goodbye to someone who might not look for you. The thought hurts, but you still write on.

Finally, after you finish writing(a kindness that this disease lets you write all this down in peace for once without a cough), the worst coughing fit you've felt you've had so far hits you. You feel like a curse was invoked as you cough and choke on the flowers that start to emerge and bloom in your throat, you try to pull them out but the never ending petals and stems and leaves seems infinite as blood also stains what comes out.Your eyes start to water as you gag and choke and realize this is it.

The nurse comes back in and sees you struggling. She tries to help, but there's nothing she can truly do as you cough up flowers and blood, small bits of blood splatter around staining the sheets and flecks hitting the letter you just wrote.

Eventually you can no longer fight it as your eyes grow weary and your vision goes dark from the inability to breathe, uttering a last breath through a cough, your eyes close as you fall back on the bed, heart rate monitor beeping one last beep then silence takes the room.

Tanya's POV:

She was so close. Whoever her mate was, their string hadn't moved in a while staying in one direction. She sped along as quickly as she could whilst maintaining her human facade, when suddenly she felt a deep sense within her feel something was wrong. She couldn't help but speed up a little more. Stopping outside a hospital, she quickly rushes in.

At the front desk, she states her soulmate is supposedly in here somewhere, but having never met them. The woman behind the counter looks weary, but then she looks down at her string and finds that her string does infact trail into the hospital. She allows her in. Tanya quickly follows where the string leads off to, not realizing the slow gradient her string is going through, turning duller and duller a shade of red, almost like that time when she hadn’t had a soulmate yet, yet the darker the string became the more the appearance seemed similar to that of dried blood going unnoticed.

She eventually arrives in front of a room in the icu, the door shut in front of her she slowly reaches for the doorknob, hesitant, how will this go? Why were you here? To visit family perhaps? She tries to reason with herself, yeah there's no way you could be hurt, she tries to listen in through the door, the room is quiet....eerily silent...not even a breath or heart beat amongst the background noise of the hospitals heart monitors and breathing machines, her eyes evident with confusion to eventually widening realizing the implications as she quickly pushes open the door bursting in there, eyes frantic until they land on the figure laying on the bed, her soulmate, you.

She didn't know what to have expected when she opened the door but it wasn't this, she never expected this.

She slowly approaches you, observing you.

There were flowers and bits of blood sprayed on the petals, protruding out of your mouth like an unkept garden and small blood trails dribbling down your chin, your skin pale and ashen, in contrast bringing out the dark circles surrounding your closed eyes.

Tanya is frozen, for she can't hear any signs of life coming from the person in front of her, no breathing or heartbeat....nothing.

She slowly continues to move eventually to stand beside you, lying on the bed.

A nurse walks in and notices her, "Oh, I'm sorry you -" the nurse cuts herself off when she notices the string tying you together.

"Oh......" the look of pity crosses the nurses face, "I'm very sorry miss, for your loss" she walks forward "she passed about an hour ago, the hanahaki finally reached the final stages, I'm very sorry but nothing could truly be done..." Tanya didn't know how to process this news, she wanted to cry as the venom pooled in her eyes, she knew the that tears would not fall, closing her eyes and gripping the railings to the bed.

You were gone, before she was even around to say hello, before she even had the chance to know you, never would she get to know what your heart beat sounded like or the sound of your voice saying her name, nor how warm you'd be to hug. Never will she get the chance to hold your hand and show you off to her family. Never will she have the chance to love you nor see those feelings reciprocated, never getting to hear you say 'i love you' back.

Never will she see how you'd react to learning what she is, nor the potential eternity you could have had together because she was too late, you were gone.

If her unbeating heart worked, it would clearly be torn in two right now.

The nurse walked around somewhere in the room behind Tanya and then hesitantly placed a box near her, "she wrote to you before she passed, at least I think she did, she had asked for this box of letters she was carrying and had written something before she passed" the shoebox lid had scrawled in your handwriting 'to my soulmate'

"I'll leave you alone for your moment with her," the nurse said before leaving the room, shutting the door behind her.

Tanya slowly reached for the box of letters that you had made specifically for her, pulling out a folded piece of paper, the only one without an envelope, what must've been the last thing you wrote.

The letter was legible enough despite the small splattering of blood.

It read:

"Dear soulmate,

I don't even know your name...that's kind of sad. I write this cause I don't know how long I have left till eventually the flowers take over.

I know we don't know eachother and that you probably have that special person in your life already and you'll probably never actually see this letter cause you're with him, you won't need to find me.

But on the chance that you actually do find me after this, I want you to know, I love you, even though you don't know me, and maybe will never see me, I love you. From as young as I was as a kid first learning about soulmates to the first and last time I saw you around a year ago to now as I sit here writing this. I don't blame you for any of this. People can be free to choose who they want. And you clearly chose someone.

I just wish I could've learnt who you were and had the chance to let you know I love you. I was gonna hopefully leave the letters at that one club I saw you at, but times not on my side, so maybe you'll never get them.

Wherever and whoever you're with, I wish you the best in life.

Goodbye

Hopefully I'll one day see you again in another life

Love your soulmate,"

There signed at the very end was your name that she only learns just now.

Her finger traces over the letters of your name.

Tanya couldn't help but have her hands clench the paper, it crumpling where she held it.

She slowly sank to the floor, an anguished cry comes from her lips, oh how she wished she could cry like a human.

She did love you. What do you mean someone else? There was no one else. You were her fated, and she was too late, maybe if she were an hour earlier she could've stopped all this, told you she loved you, maybe she could've changed you and it would've stopped this accursed disease from taking you from her. Changed something in your fate.

She couldn't understand why you would believe that she didn't love you.

You were hers, and she was yours.

But now you were gone.

What's sad is she's known of hanahaki, having seen it in many people in her long life, the suffering the mortals go through was always painful to watch. And knowing you had it, you suffered until your last breath...because you assumed she didn't love you...the flower language didn't escape her meaning either, from your mouth sprouted daffodils, one meaning to it is unrequited love. Knowing that,

her chest hurt like her heart was alive again, only to break apart. She did love you.

Trying to find some reasonings she remembers you mentioning seeing her with someone, confused on what you could mean she looks back at the box, the other letters still there that you've never had the chance to give to her.

Eyes falling to one eventually of the night you first saw her around almost a year ago.

Realizing one of her one night stands was mistaken as a supposed partner broke her.

It's not what it looks like. He meant nothing to her, but you wouldn't know that. You'll never know, and she'll never have the chance to explain it to you.

She goes to get up, standing beside you. You look peaceful if not tired from the dark circles around your eyes. If she tried hard enough, she could almost imagine that you weren't gone, but that's now an impossible dream.

She gently caresses your face, placing a kiss to your forehead. She's not sure what she should do now. She came expecting to find you and bring you home. Now, she might have to bring you home to bury you.

At one point, she hoped maybe, maybe the vampire venom could take effect, but it didn't. It was much too late.

She couldn't help but feel pain, anger at the man she was mistaken to be with, tempted to go after whoever it was, but there would be no point, him gone would not bring you back. She felt anger at herself before sorrow took over. At one point, she wished to go back, to change your fates, but fate would not budge.

She prepared your funeral arrangements, having you buried close to home, the coven attended with her, her sisters doing their best to comfort their leader. But the loss of a soulmate was something different entirely.

She'd go to visit your grave over time to talk to you. She read your letters to her, going way back when to the scrawls of childish hands. She got to know you from your letters but also mourn the person she'd never get the chance to be with.

Thinking of your last words:

'Hopefully I'll one day see you again in another life'

She knows she cannot join you and it hurts.

In the end you'd always been waiting on the red string of fate, but fate decided to cut the waiting short and end this story with just her.

Waiting on the red string of fate

Alt Route Ending 1 [Ending 3b]

Waiting On The Red String Of Fate

Tanya Denali x fem!reader

Chapter 3b: found you, fights, and figuring this out

Summary: She's found you. Important talks are needed, but the hanahaki hits. What will she do about it when she's just found you?

A/N: Back again for another serving of fanfiction? Welcome to the first alt ending, Ending 3b, This ending is not so bad, I think, I did write some of it at 3am, though, so if quality ain't so great, then....idk

not confident in writing dialogue, but I tried :P

It won't hurt as much as ending 3a though!

So uh....Bon Appétit!

Happy readings!

Consider reading the other parts if you haven't

Part 1

Part 2a

First ending: Part 3a (very sad)

Warnings:hanahaki as its own has its own set of warnings( choking on flowers, blood, vomiting) angst? I guess ish idk never sure what's angsty enough anymore. There is character death, not gonna be specific or go into detail bout it, read to find out

Waiting On The Red String Of Fate

You had just returned home from your latest travels due to the hanahaki getting really bad in your eyes, stopping your grand travel, you had already gone to see some major landmarks and places you were curious about. From going to the uk to see Big Ben and the London eye. To Japan to see the streets of Harajuku fashions and the view of Mt Fuji. To many landmarks and touristy spots in America and many more that you could list off.

When the flowers started coming up in bulbs, you thought it wise to take a break and go home, and you'd rather not pass on somewhere far from home.

So off on the first flight back and now in the comfort of your own home you lay.

Your body was growing weaker as you had a trash bin next to you in case the flowers came up again.

You could feel how slowly the hanahaki was taking everything from you. You were so tired. It was like you were constantly drained since your arrival home. Sometimes, you were able to eat something light, but other times, the flowers would come up alongside bits of food from your last meal. It was definitely getting worse.

Looking over to the letters you had written to her, you had recently wrote a final goodbye to her, unsure now what to do with the relatively large amount of envelopes you had written over the years to the person who didn't return your feelings. You were half tempted to send it to the nightclub you first saw her at. Maybe she went there a lot? If she did, the manager of the place would probably know her and give them to her for you.

No way did you have what it took to go find her and potentially break up a relationship or homewreck a situation. She deserved her joy.

The coughing had disrupted your sleep, and the occasional throwing up of food with your flowers had left you in a much weakened state. You just wanted to sleep right now.

Closing your eyes for a bit, hoping to grab some amount of rest, almost lulled into a sense of peace, you hear a knock at the door. Peaking an eye open, you contemplate if you should get up and see who it is, probably no one as you shut your eyes again,

But then the knocking came again, and you knew you could just ignore it, but something in you told you not to. You should answer it, you thought, so slowly you shuffle to the doorway, leaning against the wall for support. Finally, the trek from the couch to the door is made,

Choosing not to look through the peephole, you open the door, wanting to point the wandering lost traveler on their way, and then you regret doing so cause there stood her...

The cause of your pain.

She looks into your eyes with a surprised expression at the suddenness of the door opening, and then as if realizing here you were! her eyes widen a bit. Tanya couldn't help but feel something in her pull her towards the person in front of her. She just felt.....right, and this sensation surprised her that she was momentarily shocked and couldn't stop staring.

You stare into amber eyes that feel warm and right but are brought back to reality to remember she doesn't want you. The universe was cruel like that.

She keeps looking at you, unblinking as if frozen in time, all you could feel was discomfort in your throat as your eyes break contact and you cough into your elbow a wet congested sound. As if to break out of whatever trance she's in, she makes a move to look at her hand and peers her head to see how your strings attached, she takes a moment, unknown to you to school her features, then as if winning a prize she sends a dazzling smile your way.

All you can feel is discomfort, it clearly showing on your face before you swallow what little saliva in your mouth you had. "What do you want?" Your tone sounded flat, uncaring. You remind yourself you can't fall for her. Her smiles falters at your tone, "Hello, I'm Tanya, and I believe we're soulmates," she says in a more chipper tone. You look down and away from the eyes you wish you could spend an eternity with, "we are....." Perhaps that sounded a tad too defeated, but you couldn't find it in yourself to care as much to hide the discomfort and pain of the situation. Why was she here?

You don't notice due to looking away, but Tanya is even more confused at this development, 'why are you not over the moon to finally meet?' she can't help but think.

The silence that hangs between you slowly grows awkward. All you want to do is rest, but all Tanya wants to do is really meet you. You're not sure what to do as suddenly Tanya asks if she can come in. You open the door wider and try to get back to the couch. The fact that you lean against the wall for support does not go unnoticed by her. "Are you alright?" She asks concern evident. You can only mumble back a weak, "I'm fine," before getting back to the couch. You can't help but think that you feel the flowers are growing upwards and another fit will happen soon.

Tanya can't help but look around your place as she enters, a little dusty from the looks of it but the place also has little touches of personality she can't help but wonder more of who you are.

Tanya smells the floral scent first before realizing and then picks up on the notes of blood. Her mind racks for an explanation. There were no flowers around your place. She knows this scent, she's encountered it before. She can't help but look around hoping it isn't so, but as she approaches where you sit in exhaustion on the sofa, she sees the dark circles in you eyes, the slightly gaunt face from the inability to eat, the floral scent that slowly wafts from your mouth followed by a tinge of copper.

Seeing the garbage can by your feet, she peers into it, having her worst fears come true, you have hanahaki.

With eyes full of concern, she turns to you,

"You have hanahaki," the question tumbles from her mouth

Your head is resting on the back of the couch as you open one eye with a grimace.

"Yeah? What about it"

"Who caused this?" Is all she can ask,

Who did you fall for? who denied your affections and caused this cursed disease onto you is all she can wonder.

"Who?" You laugh a bitter laugh,

"Who do you think?"

She doesn't understand as confusion takes her face, trying to solve this puzzle. There were no images of anyone else in your life, and she had only just met you now.

"I saw you before, you know, almost a year ago"

You say, breaking the silence that she brought in the state of confusion

"I had decided to take a gap year to come look for you, and I did. I was so....naieve and hopeful then, and then I found you in a nightclub kissing some guy." You say the end part bitterly reminiscing the memories of that night

Realization dawns on her face

You look up at her, the brokenness in your eyes displayed all too clearly.

"I hope you're happy with him," you say through a smile, though the smile is clearly pained.

She? Was the cause of your hanahaki? Tanya didn't want to believe it. She was the cause of your pain...

You have to understand she loves you

And she's not saying that just because she knows hanahaki goes away with reciprocated love.

Her face shows hurt to think you could think that. She moves to declare that she does, in fact, love you

But all you can do is laugh at that, "You love me? You love me?" A chuckle escapes

"So what about the guy you were with? What about him?"

"He meant nothing to me. He means nothing to me even now," she tries to say

"I SAW YOU, I WAS THERE!"

you try to scream, it came out more hoarse than you intended. Part of you just wanted all of this to go away, the other part could feel the waves of sorrow and sensations of betrayal flaring up from the memory of the first time you saw her, your head was spinning as your emotions took over, some parts irrational jealousy some parts despair.

"So what was he? If he meant nothing, does that mean I'll mean nothing to you, too? Am I just a rebound to you? Are you just getting to know me and then trying to break me even more?

The pain in your voice is evident as your voice starts to get worse, your breathing starts to get labored, strained you start to cough,

And cough

And cough...

The stress of having to have this conversation to the pain of the feelings resurfacing from seeing her in person to actually meeting her made your connection grow, but this one moment started to make your hanahaki worse.

All the variables of the situation caused a reaction and spike in stress and emotions, you know a little more about your soulmate but that makes it worse as the agigtation of the events caused the hanahaki to grow exponentially, the flowers are in bloom and there's nothing you can do.

Tanya sees this and starts to panic

"No no no, you have to believe me, I love you! Please no," as she rushes forward to your side.

Those words fall on deaf ears as you begin to cough

You don't hear a word past no as you're focused more on trying to breathe.

As the coughing fit grew 10 fold you felt this was the worst it's been as the flowers you tried to grasp, wet bloody flowers that came from your mouth and slipped from your grip came unending, they never stopped coming out no matter how hard you try to get rid of them, as you gasp for air. Perhaps this was it is all you can think, partially losing the fight you start to give up.

Tanya watches on as she sees you try to pull out flowers, tossing them to the ground in wet puddles of blood and spit.

She turns your head and tries to help you get the flowers blocking your airway out of you but they wouldn't stop, the hanahaki was in its final stage she realizes and she was going to lose you...

You slowly stop the fight, and that sends a wave of fear to her.

She can't lose you as she suddenly throws caution to the wind, all her hope into this one shot. Fearful that the flowers might claim your life before she even got to know it. She held you close to her in a hug and whispered an apology before biting down on your neck.

You don't see or hear anything at that point, but you do feel the sensation of being held as you start to black out from lack of air. All is starting to slow...

But then, as if being thrown into a freezing lake by someone to wake you up, you suddenly jolt as fire then starts burning you. The pain is unbearable. Were you being burned? You thought you were finally going to find peace, but now all you feel is excruciating pain as you try to scream, but the flowers in your throat partially stop that. Is this a punishment for trying to push away your soulmate? Were the fates mad at you? As thoughts started to go as you gave into the pain.

The scene in this moment would look like a tragic painting in the eyes of an onlooker with no knowledge, a lady holding in her arms her love who's dying of hanahaki, petals, both stained with blood and not surround them on the ground as she whispers apologies and begs her lover to come back to her.

Tanya holds you and whispers her apologies, hoping that it isn't too late for the vampire venom to take effect.

This was a gamble, as she's heard of vampires before suffering the unfortunate circumstance of getting hanahaki. But usually, they'd have already been vampires for a while at that point, there's not been any known cases of a person being turned at the final stage of hanahaki...could it be that they don't make it? No, she's got to hope, you'll make it through this you have to...

She doesn't know what'd she'd do if you don't...

With the hanahaki muffling your screams she quickly goes around your place grabbing what you might need and finding your box of letters to her, grabbing that along she picks you up bridal style and carries you off to her car, she's going to take you home, being near humans would be too dangerous as a newborn.

A day passes, and she can't help but worry she stays by your side and waits, hoping that the venom can counter the hanahaki.

When she had gotten home, everyone came out to see her carrying you, the concern evident, and the realization that you were her mate also held some impact.

A day goes by and your heart beat stops your mouth still has flowers but the growth of them has slowed, some around the edges seemed to have wilted which she takes as a good sign, she tries to help take out the flowers hoping it'll help you.

There's not too much on hanahaki with vampires at such a late stage, usually if it's a normal vampire who's been around for a while they have ways around it, but if they don't fight it they get weakened, and it causes issues with life. But you were hopefully on your way to becoming a newborn, and she hasn't heard of any cases as such. So all she can do is stay by your side and wait, pleading to the fates that it works.

Whilst in this time though she does take to reading the letters you addressed to her, her heart warms at the oldest looking letter in the box, faded and worn down in an aged envelope with childish scrawl, she gets to know you through the years from the letters, and to say it's endearing is to say the least. It gives her hope that maybe you guys can make it through this.

The letter of you seeing her that night, though, hurts to read, she can feel the pain in the writing, and the next letters after a sense of you accepting your fate whilst traveling has her sad. Silently swearing to herself, she promises to show you that she does love you, that you are loved, and now that she's found you, she won't let you go.

On the third day, you awaken, your eyes open, red as blood.

Your instincts takes over screaming that you crave something to sate the inferno in your throat, as you move to sit up your eyes look around, landing on her, the instincts in you tell you that she's important to you. You move forward,

As Tanya calls for someone to bring her some blood, she has prepared for your awakening. Glad to see you had awakened, relieved she has more time with you, you look ever the part of a newborn besides the flowers cascading like a waterfall out of your mouth, overtime some had died and she had pulled some out but the core of the flowers was still there, she didnt want to risk it whilst you were still human. Now that you were immortal, she hoped it would hurt you a little less if she ripped the flowers out of your throat.

You try to move to her, but as she was handed an animal, she tackles you to the ground, keeping you down.

Apologizing saying it's gonna hurt as she rips the stems and flowers from your mouth with force, you gag as you feel stems and roots start to come up. Gasping and taking in a breath, there were still more stems deeper down your mouth, but this will have to do for now as she cracks open the squirrel and trickles the blood into your mouth, it tastes off but you drink regardless as it quenches the fire in your throat, you're able to swallow down the blood as you move to grab the squirrel draining it dry, she rushes off and drags in another animal, a doe, already taken down you move quickly and start to drain this one dry as well, despite the slight difficulty of the hanahaki slowly trying to regrow in your throat, you fight on still drinking.

As you drink, Tanya slowly runs her hands through your hair, praising you

"You're doing so good." Some part of you can't help but preen at the praise.

Eventually, after another animal or two, this ends as the thirst in your throat is quenched enough. Your mind clears for a moment to see her, really see her as you gain some semblance of control again, the bond of a mate is much more prominent whilst you're a newborn, and you almost forget about everything and give in to her

......

Almost.

A flash of the memory that hurt you about a year ago flashes through your mind, and in your emotional newborn state, you couldn't help but flinch. Part of your instinct screams to go to her, yet the part of you that's hurt and jealous fights back as you're torn.

Tanya sees this and can't help but feel pain at the conflict going on, she could see that you were torn between the intensity of the instincts for the bond to shine through versus the pain you had felt. It hurt to see you so conflicted. You didn't even realize you were a vampire yet, and that was a different bridge she would have to cross soon.

Not wanting to see your internal war anymore, she goes towards you, your eyes are shut as if you have a headache and are in agony. You don't feel it until she does it, but she's hugging you. Your mind tries to fight her, but your instincts wants you to melt into her. It hurts, the irrational side in you makes you want to cry, slowly, slowly, you start to break down as you stop fighting her hold.

She brings your head to the crook of her neck, cradling it in such a way, trying to comfort you.

It works as you stop fighting her.

You've calmed enough that she thinks she can speak and have you listen to her, so she starts.

"I know you believe I don't return your affections, but I do." You try to wiggle away at her words, but she uses all her strength to hold you there.

"You may not believe it, but I've lived a millenia before I could meet you", you stop squirming at that, confusion evident at the fact she said she's over 1000 years old.

"I had lost hope after a long time cause before I realized you were around, I had stopped looking at my string after all that time..."

"My string before you was dull and was short and lead nowhere.....I thought long ago that you were gone back then before I knew who you were, before I got to meet you"

"You have to know I never meant to hurt you when you saw me that night...I didnt know you were there and even though I didn't know, it's no excuse but even if I did know, you have to understand it was not my intention to hurt you...i would never hurt you intentionally...ever, you mean so much to me..."

Your mind brought the memory up and all you could feel was the desire to cry

"I've lived for a long time, and I once lost someone"

The jealousy rears it's green head around at who it could have been until her next words

"In a sense, she was basically my mother"

You stop and couldn't help but feel bad at the stupid feeling of jealousy. She had lost someone...

"This was long ago but our family at the time was really close, and the loss hurt...

You weren't around yet, and I didn't know how long you would take to be around, and the grief was all consuming...

It led me to turn to others, to just feel something..."

At this point, you were a mix of conflicted emotions...

"The man you mentioned that night meant nothing to me, my love. You say you saw me kiss him, and you might assume more, but I did nothing... I swear it"

"Something in me felt wrong after a bit, so I left, I can only assume the wrongness was the feelings through our bond..."

"I didn't realize it until my sister Irina, you may meet her later, pointed out to me that my string actually led somewhere, I decided to come looking for you after that"

"It may be hard to believe, but I am a vampire"

Yeah, that was definitely hard to believe you thought

"But when I found you and when...when the hanahaki almost took you I couldn't let that happen, I had only just found you and I didn't want to have to say goodbye, not before I could know you..."

"I'm sorry for bringing you pain, but I'm not sorry for changing you... you have to know how much you mean to me....I love you..."

You didn't know how to feel, a part of you felt her sincerity through her words and got a sense that she was being truthful....but the part of you that was still uncertain didn't know what to do...

"You don't have to believe me if you don't want to...but I will make it known for as long as I have to that I love you and I will always love you" she squeezes you a little tighter at those words

And for a second you let go of the denial for a bit that she doesn't actually love you, that what she says is false....and you can breathe a little easier, the hanahaki isn't entirely gone, there's that uncertainty to everything, but for now you let go of some of the feeling that's been hurting you, and this allows the hanahaki to weaken allowing you the breath that you no longer need.

You feel her turn and kiss your head, and some part of you warms at the gesture.

Your arms raise, and hug her back.

You know this won't be easy but you have to make it known.

"I forgive you... kind of...though part of me is still weary at all this.

Part of me feels like it can't trust you right away...another part of me despite this still holds love for you even after all of this. I'm confused, and I...I just don't know, I want there to be an us, but part of me feels that maybe that won't work..."

Tanya's unbeating heart hurts at the idea of the uncertainty in you, but she knows she would do whatever and tells you that she will try her best to mend the heart she accidentally broke even if it takes forever.

Her words soothe your pain a bit and the flowers relax a little more.

You know it won't be an easy road, but you and her will try to work to a point where you could be together...

You were both done waiting on the red string. It's finally brought you together. Now you have the road ahead to walk together in your eternity to figure this out.

Waiting on the red string of fate

Alt route ending 2 [chapter 3c]

Waiting On The Red String Of Fate

Tanya Denali x fem!reader

Chapter 3c: Sprouting roots, into hearts, arguments, and it's all torn apart

Summary: You have to just let all this bottled up pain out, but some things take a turn for the worst

IMPORTANT NOTE:ending 3C is essentially just an alt ending to the events in 3B, so I started it at the point where Tanya learns that she is infact the cause of the hanahaki, Read 3B (probably the happiest ending) before 3C(the alt angst route) I guess or not(i cant control what you read), but it won't make much sense at the start off point.

A/N: Welcome back. If you've read the other servings of this particular fanfiction i write, this one will be sort of shorter considering I started at a midpoint within 3b. Am I fully satisfied with the end? Nope! But dwelling on it too much will just tear me apart

Anyways, here is your serving of sad.

Bon Appétit and Happy readings!

Check out other parts on the:

Masterlist menu

Or

Part 3b (the actual happy ending)

WARNINGS: THIS IS NOT A HAPPY ENDING, I REPEAT THIS IS NOT A HAPPY ENDING. The usual warnings hanahaki has its own set of warnings(choking on flowers petals, blood etc) character death is here, maybe some gruesome, not quite gorey but not pleasant descriptions

Waiting On The Red String Of Fate

But all you can do is laugh at that, not even looking at her, "You love me? You love me?" A chuckle escapes

"Oh, that's rich coming from you, but ok, say I entertain the idea that you actually have feelings for me? What do you expect from me? Hmm? Cause you've already shattered my rose tinted glasses on the idea of love even before we met and I dont know if I can ever really believe you" you say at the absurd idea of giving your heart away fully, believing now that it'll be torn apart if given.

"And - and what about the guy you were with, what about him? What was he to you?"

"He meant nothing to me, he means nothing to me, even now, I-" she tries to say, but you cut her off

"I SAW YOU, I WAS THERE! IT DIDN'T LOOK LIKE NOTHING AND..."

you try to scream, it came out more hoarse than you intended. Part of you just wanted all of this to go away, the other part could feel the waves of sorrow and sensations of betrayal flaring up from the memory of the first time you saw her, your head was spinning as your emotions took over, some parts irrational jealousy some parts despair. The hurt in your chest felt like a jab of pain that you assume was just your emotions.

"...and I can't trust your words." it comes out as a mere whisper, but Tanya heard it, and she could feel her unbeating heartbreaking at it...

"So what was he? If he meant "nothing" to you, does that mean I'll mean nothing to you, too? Heck, you could still be lying to me -"

"BUT IM NOT," she tries to defend herself. She's not lying, but you clearly don't trust her, and she's not sure what she can say to fix this.

"And how do I know that, for all I know you could still be with him" "but-" "NO LET ME SAY WHAT I HAVE TO SAY" you yell at her interruption, rage was building as you gave in to you emotions.

Tanya silences at that thinking maybe you just need to let it all out.

"Am I just a rebound to you? Or some kind of conquest? Heck, you're probably here just to play with my emotions....get to know me, make me love you only to turn around and stomp on my heart again"

"NO! Please listen I-" she intejects abruptly there's no way she can let you think that but you won't have it.

"I don't have to listen to ANYTHING you have to say! I don't even know you! I don't get why you even came here! You don't have to pretend to want to be here, I know your game, so just give up and just leave me alone!"

Tanya tries to figure out what she can say to make you know she's not like that, she does want you, but in her state of contemplation of what to say she misses out on what sounds like some-thing growing inside you and what sounds like something breaking.

Your chest was hurting, like there was something digging into your sternum.

Your head spinning as you gripped your chest as then you feel a jab of pain in your heart. You panic, scared of what it could be, maybe it was just another coughing fit coming along, if it was you didn't want her here to pity...or mock you.

"Just- just get out, leave me alone... you did it for all of my life. I don't see why you should be around for what's left of it," you say weakly.

Those words definitely hurt. Tanya doesn't know what to say besides wanting to just say no, she can't find the words that'll plead her case to you, but then you rush past her not giving her the chance as you stumble quickly into a room and slamming the door shut, locking it.

She turns to look at where you went, hesitant to follow, but deciding to follow and stand outside, she can hear your accelerated heartbeat....the conversation must've added a lot of stress...

You feel flowers growing again when you decided you had to get to the bathroom, your heartbeat way too fast. You didn't know the hanahaki was getting so much worse throughout that conversation...

You didn't know something had happened inside you, how would you have known? you couldn't see inside yourself. You wouldn't have known the roots of the hanahaki had taken a detour going just slightly left. Some had wrapped around your lungs, but where these roots were headed? They had pierced and dug into your sternum and ribs and then slowly found their way to wrap around your heart, squeezing it. Crushing it.

All you could feel in your chest was pain. The edges of your vision was blurring as you tried to get yourself to throw up to stop the pain. Your heart hurt, everything hut as you tried and choked on petals, blood pooling in your mouth, then finally the darkness calls for you as all of it stops as it takes you.

Tanya can't help but fight against breaking down the door versus giving you space. She can't help but worry at your alarming heart rate. Your coughing and breathing is also getting worse, but what makes her want to break off the handle and bust open the door is the sound of something that sounds like breaking and something growing that sounds like it's piercing flesh.

She fights it until something happens, and she suddenly can't take it anymore as she breaks down the door.

What finally made her snap was the fact that everything suddenly stopped, your heart beat, the coughing, everything, and then a thump on the other side.

So here Tanya was, covered in woodchips in a broken doorway to a bathroom. The lighting dim as she sees you there having fallen curled up on your side on the floor littered with bloody petals. Panic grips her as she sees the blood leaking from your mouth and the small pool of blood collecting underneath you. She lifts you into her arms. Your eyes were barely open, but what essence of spirit that lived within those eyes were gone.

Tanya was full-on panicking now. You couldn't die, not now, not before she could clear up this whole misunderstanding. Your body was still warm, but your heart had stopped. Maybe it wasn't too late she hoped as she pulled you close, whispering an apology, and sunk her teeth into your neck. One side then the other, hoping with enough venom it could bring you back. It's got to, she only just found you, you can't leave her yet, not before she has the chance to know you.

She lifts your body out of the bathroom, hopeful that it'll work and brings you to what she thinks is your room.

She's very concerned at the lack of heartbeat, more fearful that it won't work.

She places you on the bed, very worried at the blood that seeped onto her when she carried you. It was all over her arms. She then notices your chest, where your shirt was covering it was stained crimson with blood seeping and spreading pooling into a larger point.

Fear takes her as she hopes if you do wake up that you don't mind, but she slowly unbuttons your shirt to reveal your chest, and directly where the pooling stain on your chest was, there plant roots were sprouting out.

She didnt know how to react, there the hanahaki roots were digging through you, she looks a little to your left, just the area above where your heart should be and there roots also sprouted outwards like plants breaking through the winter snow but here the routes where sprouting out of your paling skin covered in blood.

What does this mean? Was there so much internal damage that the venom might not take hold? Were you.....she dare not say it, but she had to wonder was it too late? Should she have broken the door down when she had the chance?

She couldn't stop the what ifs, she had to know something. Your heart didn't restart, and you weren't breathing, and the roots were protruding from your skin like worms breaking out of the earth.

She then considers calling Carlisle. Perhaps he can help her? Pulling out her cellphone, she calls, wondering where they might be, and surprisingly, they're not too far a drive from where you are. Explaining the situation, Carlisle was kind enough to lend his assistance to see if there's any possibility that you could be saved.

Tanya gently changes you out of your clothes and into something not bloodstained, wrapping a blanket around you and then picking you up bridal style she then makes for the car, driving off in a rush probably breaking the speed limit, she does not care. She has to know if you'll come back to her.

Arriving at the hospital, Carlisle meets her part way outside, taking you from Tanya's arms they move quickly, wanting this to be done under secrecy.

He does a chest x-ray, whilst Tanya waits for this agony to end.

Eventually placed in an unused room, she waits there holding your hand, hoping she wasn't too late

Carlisle comes back eventually with the results of the chest Xray, placing them up on a box along a wall that lights up the image better. What Tanya sees scares her.

There was your ribcage, your heart, your lungs.

But the roots, the roots, and stems were prominently entwined between the spaces of your ribcage. Your sternum was fractured from the roots digging into multiple places. Your lungs were completely wrapped around by the roots and your heart.....your heart was fully wrapped by the roots in a crushing manner

Squeezed in the middle, as well as areas along your heart that seemed to display what happened to your chest, roots bursting out from your heart....

Carlisle looks over to Tanya with pity, "I'm not certain but with the extent of damage I don't think.....I'm sorry Tanya but I don't think that the venom will be able to save her...."

If Tanya could cry, she would have done so long ago, she wished she could, but all she felt was the vampire venom pooling in her eyes.

Tanya takes you back home after that, back to your home. Placing you on the bed, she stays by your side, uncertain what to do now....you might likely be truly gone....

Part of her wants to hope that she wasn't too late, but the X-ray was some damning evidence. Giving it one last shot, she decides to wait for the supposed day you would've woken up if you are turned, she can't lose hope, she just can't...

Leaving you in your room, she goes about cleaning your slightly dusty home, cleaning up the bathroom, and the door she broke. She basks in the feeling that this home was yours. Eventually, she stumbles across the shoe box, your soulmate letters still inside with the last one you wrote on top.

Going from the state of the letters, she reads through them to learn about who you were, wanting to cry at the type of person she accidentally hurt. She felt a little worse at the letter you wrote about the night you saw her, something clearly broke in you that day. Within the next letter, though, it was like something changed, and you accepted your fate, thinking she would never come find you.

By the final letter, it didn't seem like you hated her. It felt more like you were giving up and accepting the hanahaki...

She felt hopeful at the tone of the letter, hopeful maybe that you would wake up and it'll all be OK. You would wake up, and you two would be able to work through this.

The final day of when you were supposed to awake arrived, and she waited 24 hours

But once that time passed, something in her dimmed, she then waited a little more... you can't be gone, but still as time passed more parts of her hope broke off as part of her broke too, as your beautiful eyes she only looked into the first time a few days before would not open and look at her, and then finally the last embers of hope smothered out.

You were truly gone...

You were gone, and she was left alone deemed by the fates to live this life alone.

Waiting On The Red String Of Fate

Tanya Denali x fem!reader

Chapter 3d: Night time strolls to Mother Nature's call

Summary: The woods call to you on your journey, and you fight it for as long as you can, but fate and mother nature's call has other plans as Tanya takes a nightly stroll to find you.

A/N: Welcome back lovely readers who stick around for the angst endings. Here is another serving of sadness cause my brain would not stop on wanting to write this out Bon Appétit and happy readings!

Find the other parts on the:

Masterlist menu

Warnings: hanahaki usually has its own set of warnings(choking, coughing up blood and flower petals) character death, angst, kinda graphic but not too graphic descriptions

Waiting On The Red String Of Fate

Her fated POV:

You wanted to just walk off into the forest and become one with nature

The moon was shining on this quiet night as sleep eluded you, tossing and turning in bedding way too warm. You felt weak as the hanahaki got worse. The atmosphere of the hotel room in some small town was muffling. You couldn't sleep. Sitting up, you go towards the window of your room, staring out of it. Looking at the forest facing your window, something within you felt a pull to the forest, a call like a song of a siren telling you to come closer. Part of you has been fighting off the want to answer it, but with you getting weaker, more tired, as the hanahaki got stronger, it was clear that you'd eventually lose your fight.

You try to go back to sleep. The call of the forest will not take you today.

The next few nights the call gets stronger and stronger as you become more exhausted, you've been coughing up more blood and flowers lately and the pull in your chest started to get stronger and felt like it something was gonna burst through your ribcage, eventually one night you couldn't take it anymore and you find yourself leaving your hotel room.

Stepping outside in the cold, you can't help but shiver as the winds howl. You wrap your thin jacket over you more tightly as you start your trek into the woods along a paved path.

Deeper and deeper along the hiking path, you went until something in you took a turn off the path, onto the dirt you walked deep into the forest the pull getting stronger.

You shed your shoes and go bare foot as your feet walk along the ground, feeling the earth beneath your feet.

It's quiet in the forest despite the wind howling, but even that sounds distanced as an eerie silence holds the forest still, and the call gets louder.

You eventually feel like you've been walking for hours. The trees have grown tall, the foliage covering the light, leaving you to wander in the dark with the occasional moon light breaking through. You find yourself eventually stopping at the base of a large tree. You crouch in front of the tree, one hand on it as you suddenly feel the pain in your chest triple. You start to cough. At first, blood comes up in a wet cough, and then the petals start coming and growing and growing. You hunch over on the ground trying to fight it, but you know there was no winning this fight as the flowers started sprouting out of your mouth, growing like vine flowers pouring out of you. You keep choking as they keep growing. A pain in your chest feels as if it's bursting forward, and then you start to stagger. You sit against the tree in a pool of your own blood as you get weaker, and the fight in you goes out. The pain in your chest explodes, knocking your head back against the tree. Looking upwards, the light in your eyes dim as the gentle moonlight shines, breaking through the foliage shining down on you.

Tanya POV

She'd track your string to a small town. It was night by now when she arrived, and she'd assume she'd have a better chance in greeting you in the morning.

So here she was walking by foot into town, your string lead towards a hotel near the outskirts and she assumed you'd be staying there, but then she noticed your string did not lead into the hotel, not at this time of night, it was starting to lead off into the woods. Confusion clouded her face as she started to follow the string. What could you be doing out at this time of night?

She may not feel the cold, but she knew it would probably be cold for you. She slowly followed the hiking trail. Perhaps you had a cabin out here? It could be why you were out here, but then after a while, she notices the string swerve off path, into the unknown. She follows along a little more worried as she then comes across a pair of shoes taken off.

Seeing faint footprint marks, she follows the path and string. Where on earth were you going?

The walk feels endless in this darkness. The eerieness of the woods doesn't bother her, but she can't help but feel something is wrong.

Eventually, she makes it to where you last were, the big tree. The air smells of copper and a floral scent, familiar, but she can't place her mind to it. The copper can only mean blood, but there don't seem to be any flowers around that she can see.

Her foot steps crunch as she slowly makes it around the tree. The smell of blood is stronger here. The first thing she sees when she rounds the tree is a pair of legs, shoeless, just sitting on the ground, she notices the blood first, you seem to be sitting in it, were you injured? too distracted at the finding of a person and blood she looks to scan the rest of you, your clothes are not great for the cold weather outside, the front of your shirt was stained with blood, but there in the middle of your chest as if having been hollowed out and placed within the hole a scattering of flowers coming straight outwards.

What has she come across?

She finally glances at your face to see the eyes devoid of life, looking up at the moon that shines down on you casting a glow on your pale gaunt face, as if to caress your spirit off into the night for the final voyage you embark upon.

Your mouth was stuffed with flowers that were growing out of it and trailing downwards like wisteria flowers hanging from branches, the flowers a variety of daffodils, heliotropes, yellow tulips and more. The blood dripping down these cascading flowers.

The scene haunting if to describe it like a painting, there sitting in blood soaked earth with her back against a tree a woman, the woods behind her dark and cold as the only moonlight shines down to reveal her. Dressed in clothing that would not keep her warm in her dark surroundings, from her chest burst forth flowers and more coming from her mouth. The gaunt face looking away into the moonlight devoid of life. A scene feeling like it comes out of something paranormal, like she was called forth back to nature.

Tanya wasn't sure what she was supposed to do. Here she was looking for her soulmate, and here she instead finds a corpse. But then she suddenly has a thought as she looks down at her hand and follows the string that sits exactly on the other woman's hand...

She's not sure how to process this. Her soulmate is sitting in front of her...her soulmate, who now that she realizes it, isn't breathing. She rushes forward and pulls the woman towards her. Holding her in her arms, she presses her ears to her chest, even with flowers in the way she couldn't hear anything, no heartbeat, no breathing

....Nothing

She looked down at you in her arms, looking to the flowers that burst forth from your chest perhaps if she...if she pulled them out perhaps there was some chance to save you, perhaps if she tried to change you? But she knew that it was a hopeless cause. You were already gone by the time she found you, she didn't even know how long you were out here, the vampire venom wouldn't work....

She pulled you closer to her, hugging you, whispering apologies into your ear, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry I was too late, that I didn't find you sooner"

She didn't even know your name as she held you close. You had died out here from hanahaki alone, nobody with you, just you and the emptiness of the forest around you.

She couldn't help but wonder who did you fall in love with that hurt you, who did this to you, wanting to tear apart whoever took you away from her. The venom pooled in her eyes. There was no catharsis for her, her tears for you would not fall as she held onto you, wishing that you'd come back to her.

She's not sure how much time passed there as she held you. The sun eventually rises, and with it, her with you. She carried your body in her arms home, planning your funeral arrangements.

She eventually did find out your identity, going back to the hotel she assumed you had come from.

With it, she took your belongings, finding a camera with pictures of places you'd been, clothing, a list of places you'd been to and had planned on going, and then she found your letters.

Neatly placed in a shoe box were letters addressed to her.

She wasn't sure where she should start. Perhaps the most recent letter would shed some light on what was going on.

Reading through it she got a sense of your adventures, you wrote to her about your travels and how you always wanted to see this place with her, this left her confused, if you wanted to see it with her, why didn't you? Why didn't you find her? Why did you have to go and fall in love and leave her here? Why did you have to leave her alone in this world devoid of you before she knew you?!She accidentally crumples the paper slightly at her slow spiral of questions, moving to try and undo the creases she moves on to the second most recent and then the next, until she finds one of you talking about how you planned the journey.

"Dear soulmate,

I plan to go on an adventure, using all of the places I'd ever written down in the letters before, places I wanted to go with you.

I don't know how much time I have left cause I've learnt I have hanahaki.

Before you think anything, I'm not getting that surgery to remove it, besides the negative effects, I don't want to lose the memory of you, even though I saw you once and it was with someone else I don't want to forget you or mess up my emotions and potentially meet you again in the future broken and unable to love.

I know you probably wouldn't want to go with me on my grand adventure before the great beyond.

You have your own life, you have him and I don't want to wreck whatever relationship you have by being selfish and taking you away from him, if you're happy I'm happy, you chose your path and I just have to accept that.

I don't blame you for the hanahaki, I chose to love you even though I didnt know you and made a vow that I always would love you no matter what, even if you don't love me back like that. But even if I did know this would happen, I'd still choose to have loved you more than not at all.

It's really just my own fault, I guess, but I don't blame you for this, and you better not blame yourself. You have someone, and sometimes that kind of love is special.

So in some sense I guess I set you free from having to worry about me, live your best life and maybe I'll see you in the next life and we can be together then.

Love your soulmate"

And there written was your name.

How you ended every letter

It hurt to read this one. You had accepted the hanahaki would kill you, and you had thrown away the chance to save yourself cause you believe she was with someone. You had mistaken one of her one night stands as something more, looking at the date of the letter it was clear this was around the time when she started to feel the sense of wrongness, that night you saw her, all these feelings must've been through the bond...you didn't know she was looking for you, that she didn't do anything with that guy.

You didn't know she was trying to find you whilst you were on your great adventure that she should've been with you on, that you should've been together on from the start. That you never should've had hanahaki for cause she did love you...

You'll never know how long she's been waiting for you...

You'll never know how much she loves you

Her heart hurt at the fact that she was the cause of your hanahaki. She was your demise. Her sisters tried to comfort her, but when the person she wanted in her arms was you, there was nothing she could do. She didn't come out of her room for a while.

Eventually, the funeral happened, and she came out for it, for you.

You were buried near her home, and she would come out to see you a lot. Going out to your grave to chat with you.

One day eventually where you were buried, a flower garden started to grow, right above your grave, the same flowers that she found coming out from you that night in the woods. They never wilted and never died, an eternal garden, a remainder of what was left of you, painful to look at as she will always remember that night she first met you, and the night she could not save you.

Hanahaki had heard nature's call that night, with fate in hand, they took the life and sent her along, leaving a lone soulmate pained, in exchange with pity for the lone soulmate, nature gave her an immortal garden for the life of her love, something to always remember her.

Waiting On The Red String Of Fate

A/N: don't know why, but my brain went to the annihilation movie when thinking of the flowers coming from her chest

Alt ending 4 (chapter 3e)

Waiting On The Red String Of Fate

Tanya Denali x fem!reader

Chapter 3e: Found you in Flowerbeds

Summary: You were drinking, but Tanya finds you else where in the night.

A/N: it's been a bit. Hope life's been treating you well, dear readers. I struggled a bit to write out this one 3e, but here it is. Consider reading the warnings for this one if you haven't already.

Bon Appétit, happy readings of another serving of angst.

Read the other parts on the materlist menu

Or start here at part 1

Warnings: This chapter I should warn that though I didn't write any scenes of what happened to MC, you can draw assumptions that it falls under non-con murder death aspects. And if the idea of implied stuff like that upsets you, please do not read.

There's also the usual warnings of ANGST(you should expect it at this point), hanahaki that has its own set of warnings(choking on flowers, blood, etc), and character death.

Waiting On The Red String Of Fate

Her fated POV

You were in a bar or nightclub or whatever in a city too big and lively to care, sitting at the bar you nurse your drink, one of many you've had this night. You're not sure you're happy with the amount you've been drinking since your travels started, but you discovered for some reason it felt like the alcohol fought off the flowers if just for a bit, as it took your mind off the pain of your heart, clearing the airway, but once the intoxicated effects wore off the plants would be back.

You were currently tipsy, and you were free from the pain that your heart had of thinking of your blonde soulmate with someone else somewhere off in the world.

Occasionally you'd chat your heart aches away with the bartender, but today it seemed people came up to you to chat, some creepy but thank god that they eventually went away, you did end up chatting with a blonde stranger equally as intoxicated as you, she was wonderful company, you wish you could fall in love with someone else, to move on, but the flowers were a clear indication that it wasn't possible.

Eventually, you had to head back, calling it a night and heading towards the door. This bar was within an alleyway, and your hotel was near one direction. Too intoxicated and unaware of the eyes on you.

You shouldn't have walked alone.

Tanya's POV

Following the string to a massive city, Tanya felt she was close. Something didn't feel right earlier in the night when she still had a couple of miles until she reached the city limits, the sense of wrong growing, causing her to quicken her pace. Something deeply unsettling sent a chill through her bones, screaming at her senses.

Once in the city, she walked on following the string. Moving past towering skyscrapers and office buildings, moving past hotels and back alleys with few people who traverse the nights passing by without a second glance, until she notices your string trailing down a dark alley. Following after it, she sees it enter a bar. Perhaps you were still there? she fixes up her appearance before going in, hoping to make the best impression she can when she meets you. Eyes scanning the surroundings when she enters and then back to looking at the string that connects to you, she walks through, but to no avail as the string heads back out the door. Her heart falls a little bit at that. She missed you, who knows how long since you'd been here. She quickly leaves and runs after the string. Perhaps you were nearby.

Your string led out of the city. This didn't make sense to her. As she walked farther and farther where woods started to form around her as she followed your string down the highway road. Eventually, your string stopped and turned into the woods. She looks over seeing fresh tire tracks, having recently pulled over who knows how long ago. We're you left behind? Perhaps you called a cab? Why are you going into the woods at this time of night? Perhaps you were going camping or had a cabin along the way? More questions were raised as she walked through the forest. The air had some parts floral notes whilst there were hints of...a coppery scent? It was very faint. Perhaps a hunter caught something.

As she walked further in, the road to you felt endless at this point of night. She hoped you were okay, that you chose something warm for this cold night.

It had been a long while of walking, and she can't help but speed up just a bit, her impatience to finally meet you mixed along with the worry for why you were out here.

She eventually sees a head of her your string stopping around the bend of a tree, finally is all she can think, readjusting her outfit whilst she walks, you hadn't made any sounds of movement and she was too focused on the moment.

Rounding the bend as her eyes follow her soulmate string, she stops. If she needed to breathe, she would feel like all the air had been stolen from her. As she looks, all she can see is her string leading directly into the earth.

She stands in front of a plot of earth to where her string leads her. Freshly disturbed dirt having been dug up from what it looks to be very recently, and out from the dirt came flowers where the coppery scent she noted earlier permeated the air.

Why did her string lead her to this flower bed...

Her string led directly into the dirt...

Her soulmate string led directly into this...

Tanya quickly rushes forward after a second to process this

Dropping to her knees, she digs with her hands, trying to dig away the clumps of dirt where your string led to.

Her whispers of no on repeat like a broken record, this can't be, please don't let it be is all she can think, hoping to whatever divine being is out there that it's not what she thinks it is.

Digging and digging until eventually her hands hit something squishy and not softened loose dirt texture, quickly working to unearth what she find, she finds a face with closed eyes, where the flowers had come up from where your mouth was.

She works to dig away all the dirt, slowly uncovering you.

She eventually removes enough that she's able to pull your upper torso to her in a sitting position.

Your clothing was disheveled, dirt caked your clothes and face, and trails of blood lead down your head. Trails also came down your chin where the flowers grew from.

Your arms show remnants of bruise from some altercation as your body goes through rigor mortis. Your scent strong, but there's some other scent, another persons all around you, someone hurt you, someone killed you and left you here hoping to hide what they had done.

It's subtle hidden beneath the floral and copper tones of the hanahaki.....

You have hanahaki....had.....

Had hanahaki...

Her heart hurts at the thought of you in the past tense, no more you around, the chance slipping through her fingers as she never had the chance to know you...

She goes back to the hanahaki to try and focus something else other than the fact that you are no more. Who could you have loved? Who did you love who didn't return your affections? How could they not? Despite the circumstance of finding your corpse, she still thought you were beautiful...

The thought that you loved someone else felt like a stab in her heart. She'll never get to hear that story or know you...

who are you? truly? Your name unknown to her, you were unknown to her, yet her lifeless heart couldn't help but break as it felt like a void has opened within it. You were gone, no goodbyes, no nothing.

Was the wrongness that screamed at her earlier in the night, you? Was the bond or the fates trying to get her to rush to you to save you?

She gently cradles you in her arms,

She didn't expect it to end like this

She expected to hug you, feeling your warmth perhaps in the comfort of what you both could have called home.

But now she holds you half buried in dirt, your body long gone cold.

Pain rips through her as she lets out anguished cries. She holds you for the rest of the night, tearless cries of pain, the only sound that can be heard in the silence of the forest.

As the day comes around, she takes you home.

She never did learn your name, no missing posters for you in that city, no identification, no wallet, all she could really call you was her soulmate.

Written on a gravestone not far from where you could've shared a home had she been quick enough. Had she looked for you earlier, she might've found you and saved you from this fate. She might actually have a name to utter when thinking of you. She might've shown you love so that the fate of hanahaki wouldn't have taken you.

She visits you often, often staring at the flowers that grew from the hanahaki, never seeming to go, a garden above your grave.

She did hunt down those of which who took you from her. The raging inferno of anger and vengeance called to her first and foremost, they took her soulmate, they took her soulmate.

she tore them apart for what they did. No mercy was shown for those who created this hole in her being, for she was now a soulmate without her other half.

The fates had tried to intervene in warnings, but they could not step in to save you from other variables, leaving a lone soulmate behind.

Summary: A drunk conversation with a beautiful stranger, how will this end?

Waiting On The Red String Of Fate

Tanya's soulmate pov:

Sitting on a stool in some bar in a random city of over a million people, you couldn't help but feel lonely, like a speck of dust in this universe that feels infinite.

You had been drinking, you found that drinking warded off the flowers for a bit, intoxication loosened the airways, and you could breathe a little easier. Sometimes, you'd only drink a little. Sometimes, you'd just get to the point of being tipsy.

Tonight, though? Tonight, you were drunk.

Nursing the drink in your hand, this is the 3rd night you'd returned to this bar, already having chatted away your woes with the bartender on the 1st night. You remembered not wanting to drink too much, but the hanahaki felt worse as the whispers in your mind clawed at your thoughts, bringing in more pain to the whispered thoughts that you were unwanted.

Tonight? Tonight, you just drink. You drink to drink away the pain, is what you thought.

That is until a beautiful stranger sits besides you and flashes you a dazzling smile, though intoxicated the part of your mind that was partially sober gave a lopsided smile back, your drunk mind uncertain what to do. Fuck, you've been so hung up on a soulmate you didn't have any idea how to.....flirt, this is going to be embarrassing.

She introduces herself, and you could only smile at that, your head too buzzed and too distracted by the way her lips moved when she talked, she probably said her name and you didn't even hear it. She was really stunning, it's all your mind can focus on.

Suddenly realizing she was talking to you, you break out of your dazed look, asking her to repeat what she said.

She laughs, and the sound is enchanting,

Smooth like silk, you want to hear it again.

She points to your glass and asks why you're drinking so much, and the question can't help but damper your spirits. You don't notice her subtle shift at your sad look, your mind going back to the thought of your soulmate.

You only really tell her it's cause of heartbreak and see her look uncertain after you say that, she probably wanted to ask you out or something and that put a road block in her way, who would want someone going through heartbreak? Your mind wanted to spiral.

She does ask if you wanted talk about it, and some part of you feels like you'd want to bare your soul to this stranger, to let her see your pain, let her see the damage and see if she stayed.

You wouldn't tell her all of it though, some part of you wanted to keep it private, like a secret.

You tell her your soulmate didn't want you.

Her face looks confused at that and you elaborate, telling her about your gap year and your search for her, how you did find her but she looked to be with someone else. That you've waited for so long and that your heart felt like it was ripped out of you the second you saw her with someone else, the kiss, the pain you felt from having your rose tinted glasses smacked off your face. And then you tell her that despite all that you still want her to be happy, that some part of you still loved her.

You don't look at the stranger, choosing to look down, you don't want her pity, you don't see the look she gives you.

You feel a cold hand touch your hand clenched in a fist on the bar counter, you look up at her to see her sad eyes on you, "perhaps it wasn't what it seemed?" She says her voice ever soft with care. You can't help but shake your head at that,

"Even if it wasn't, I don't know if I can get rid of this sense of hopelessness that's grown within me"

She looks disheartened at that, and you can't help but feel bad for making her feel sad. Some part within your drunken mind calls for you to comfort her,

"Don't be sad, it's really just my own issue at least you still have your soulmate" you say gesturing to her hand with her own string attached.

She looks like she wants to cry at that and you panic, why is she sad???

"No, no, wait, don't be sad, I'm sorry I-

Can I hug-"

When you opened you arms in a gesture to ask if you can hug her

You find before you even finish your question she's already in your arms, holding you tight. Her head in the crook of your neck, you slowly lower your arms to wrap around her, returning her embrace.

Her skin was cold and felt nice against the flush of your skin that was warmed from the alcohol alongside the sudden shyness at the situation.

You feel her shake in your arms and assume she's crying, you hold her, whispering reassurances.

Feeling awkward just standing at the bar you ask if she'd rather sit at a booth along one of the walls, you find her dragging you there almost forgetting your drink.

Sitting in the booth, she moves to hug you again, part of you let's her cause you couldn't help but feel like you needed to comfort her. There's not really anything spoken between the two of you, and you feel like you could just sit in the silence and be at peace, but part of your mind can't help but fill the void and ramble about whatever comes to mind, you talk about your trip and other things.

And eventually you find her joining you in conversation interjecting to add her own thoughts. Conversation with her feels easy, it's nice and you can't help but smile. Part of you can't help but wonder what ifs, what if you didn't have hanahaki, what if you found this person before you found your soulmate and didn't have the rude awakening to find out you were the only one that was waiting. You can't help but be torn at the thought. Your heart still tender from being ripped out of you, and you're still aware of the feelings for your soulmate even if she doesn't return your affections that you can't help but feel bad. Perhaps time could heal your broken heart and you could find something with the pretty stranger beside you.

The whispers in your drunken mind can't help but claw back at the idea, thinking over and over this is a betrayal.

Trying to shake away the thoughts you notice the time, knowing you should get back to your hotel room to sleep off the alcohol and hoping the hangover won't hurt you too bad in the morning. You tell her you should head out.

The mysterious stranger offers to walk you to where you're staying and comforted by the thought of such kindness you accept, perhaps you hoped for something more, but then some nagging voice in the back of your mind starts to repeat the same song, saying this is a betrayal to your soulmate.

The shadow of thoughts started flooding in saying your soulmate could never want you, the whispers of your mind start to take over sending signals to start another coughing, you can feel it coming excusing yourself saying you'd like to use the restroom before you leave.

She nods saying she'll stay and wait for you by the bar.

You make a dash for the restroom, tumbling into people in your drunken stupor as you go into the hallway where it's supposedly leads, stumbling you feel the flowers coming quicker as you burst through a door that leads you to a different alleyway on the otherside of the bar. The flowers are coming up quick as you rush forwards towards the garbage can that was in view.

Flowers and blood come up like vomit as you cough and cough.

Suddenly you feel cold hands at the back of your throat as you're grabbed and pulled back into a pair of arms.

Tanya's pov:

Tanya couldn't believe her luck in finding you. When she decided to follow her gut instinct and redirected the course to this big city where your string had been headed, she tried to discreetly speed over here.

It was dark out now, the stars unseen from the light pollution of the city. She kept on walking past people out partying or getting drunk, strangers not taking a second glance trying to get to their own places.

Finding your string leading down a dimly lit alleyway, she follows along, finding it lead into a bar.

She fixes her outfit, prepared to look her best now that she's going to finally meet you. Opening the door, the place was slightly busy, some people within the establishment turn to stare at her, but her eyes were only on her string. Following it to a figure sitting hunched over on a stool at the bar. She goes up and sits beside you. Flashing you a smile that dazzles you. Your awkward lopsided smile is charming.

She introduces herself, saying she's been waiting a long while for you. Tanya can't help but notice the alcohol on your breath and the kind of dazed look in your eye,

She can see you were not sober enough to realize she was your soulmate nor were you listening. Smelling the alcohol on your breath.

So she decided to chat asking

"What is a sweet little thing like you doing drinking so much?"

You continue to look at her, and then as if realizing she was talking to you she sees you break out of your dazed asking her to repeat her question. Adorable is all she can think as she laughs.

Pointing at your glass Tanya repeats her question. She sees the change in your emotions, concerned at the pained sadness that flashes through your face.

The answer not at all what she expected

"Heartbreak" is all you say to her.

Tanya freezes at that, heartbreak? Confused and uncertain. Did you just get out of a relationship? She's not sure how to proceed. Perhaps you'd want to talk about it? So she asks.

Hearing you say that she didn't want you made her confused, what do you mean? She was right here, and she did want you!

She sees you look at her confusion and then you tell her your story.

When she finds out that you'd been waiting and then set out to find her, she felt like her heartwarmed, only to still realizing that when you had found her, she had been kissing a one night stand and you had mistaken it for a lover or partner.

She can't help but feel your pain through the soulmate bond at the recounting of the events. Then she hears that despite all of your pain that you still wanted her to be happy, even if you were mistaken, even if you had to distance yourself and it caused you pain.

Everything in her wanted to tell you that she did want you. But you still hadn't realized you were soulmates, and she's not certain if you were sober enough to take the news. Her still heart hurt at the thought, wanting to comfort you.

Her best bet at this was to try and change your mind. You hadn't looked at her when you recounted the story, your hand's in a death grip on the bar top. She moves to cover it with her own, and when you look into her eyes she can't help but try, "perhaps it's not what it seemed?"

Her voice sad and trying to convey that she was right here! she wanted you!

But when you described the hopelessness she couldn't help but internally cry for you.

Some expression on her face must've sent concern through you as you try to brush aside your own pain to comfort her

Telling her not to be sad, that your problems are yours and that she still has her own soulmate. Part of her wanted to cry. You were her soulmate and you were suffering. Every part of her was in anguish.

She looks down, she hurt you with a one night stand, it wasnt her intention but she hurt you all the same and she can't help but feel bad, cause now you were staying away and suffering cause of her.

She hears the panic in your voice as you try to stop the sadness in her. You make to open your arms and before you're even done asking she rushes to hug you. Glomping onto you. She places her head in the crook of your neck, your scent comforting to her as she realizes the hurt you both have.

When she feels you hug her back, she can't help but think this was her home.

You were slightly warm against her cool skin.

She shakes, if she could cry she would. She hugs you tight trying to convey she's here! You pat her on the back whispering reassurances, saying it was going to be ok.

After a while you ask if she'd prefer to sit at a booth and she all but drags you over, cuddling in close. Now that she's found you she won't let you go. She basks in the silence and comfort that is you. After a while you break the silence talking about anything and nothing at all, and she can't help but smile at your rambles, joining in with her own thoughts.

Eventually though your face gives a conflicted emotion, she's not sure why. But then you notice the time and say that you should be heading back to where you're staying.

It was getting late for humans.

Not wanting to leave you, she offers to walk you back to where you stay and you can't help but smile. But suddenly something crosses at your expression and you say you have to use the restroom. She let's you leave, deciding to wait at the bar for you instead of following.

She waits for you, 5 minutes pass, then 10, then after the 15 minute mark she worries somewhat. She makes to go towards you, following the signage to the washroom but seeing your string lead to a different door. The scent of blood suddenly hits her nose without even having to open the door, a sense of dread takes over as she speeds through, bursting the door open she frantically looks around, and then her amber eyes land on you, being held in the arms of a stranger. You complexion deathly pale as the vampire that's draining you doesn't take notice too busy feeding off you.

Panicked Tanya can only rush forward, but with the movement, the vampire takes notice, hissing, and they fling your body, hitting the brick wall. She cries. "No!"and moves to kill the newborn.

Rushing to rip off their head and limbs, she curses them for hurting her soulmate. When the threat is eliminated she moves to you, gently cradling your form.

She then notices the flowers in your mouth.

What little blood that drips down your chin. She listens for your heartbeat, it's slow, too slow, the wound from the vampire attack drained you, and what little blood is left is pooling out of you.

She panics, not sure if the vampire venom will be enough to save you. Your heart is already weak, and she's not even thinking of the hanahaki at this point. Her mind scattered, she just found you, she just found you this can't be it.

She brushes some strands of hair out of your face and your eyes barely open, unfocused as you look at her. She can see the light fading from you. She cries a cry without tears. "Hey I'm here, it's me, I'm your soulmate please....please don't leave me" As she gives you a kiss to your forehead, then your nose then your lips, she tells you that she loves you, whilst she presses your foreheads together.

As if you heard her you give her a weak smile, and a barely whispered, "i love you too" Her heart breaking at it.

As you give your last breath in her arms.

When your heart stops she can't help but scream. She doesn't care who hears her. You were gone.

She holds you tight to her.

Why? Why did it have to be like this.

She just got you, you were right there...

And now you were gone.

Fate gave them a chance but when monsters lurk around corners out of their control, fate can do nothing and so a soulmate is left alone in this world after just finding her other half

Ending 3g: Surgeries and Surprises

Summary: You grew weaker as the hanahaki grew stronger as time went on, deciding on doing something you discarded as an option at first you go through with it. How will this turn out?

A/N: Hello! welcome back to another angsty serving of fanfiction. It's been a bit since the last angst ending(life's gotten busy on my end), but here it be. This lovely idea was brought to mind when @kaptainsappho brought the thought of MC potentially removing the hanahaki with the surgery...The angst in my brain took it and ran with the what if, this is what came of it

This should be the last ending unless something comes along.

I'll be opening Requests/asks if you, too, have a thought to throw in the pot of angst endings or idk just Tanya Denali thoughts :3

Anyways, Bon Appétit and happy readings!

Warnings: Angst, Hanahaki has its own set of warnings(choking on flowers, blood, etc)

Waiting On The Red String Of Fate

This was the 7th city of your list of places you'd like to travel to, it was beautiful here.

What brought down the enjoyment was that the hanahaki was getting worse, every couple of hours your mind would wander, and you'd find yourself hunched over coughing, expelling a bunch of flowers wherever you were.

It was tiring. You lay in your hotel room looking out at a beautiful view of the ocean. The sun was shining and the weather nice. You should be enjoying it, but you felt too weak to do anything.

'Was this the end?' You thought.

You were tired, so tired, part of you didn't want to die. You wanted to live. This disease was taking everything from you.

You wanted to live, to see the world, to do what you wanted, but it was all slipping away. Your life was slipping through your fingers cause you had these feelings...

You didn't want to think about it, but you've thought of the procedure. It's been revolving around your mind a lot.

You could live, you could stop the horrible coughing fits and the pitying looks of strangers when they notice you cough up flowers, you can stop the weird side eyes you get from strangers who think what is wrong with you coughing up flowers and blood, thinking it's some weird habit to eat flowers. It could all just stop, and you could live another day....

But at the sacrifice of the innocent love you've had for her for so long, was the risk worth it?

Part of you has had these feelings for as long as you first learned what a soulmate was. The romantic within you was a lot of what you were. Who were you without it? Who are you now? Heartbroken and soulmateless, but you're still you... right?

You contemplate the surgery, the coughing will stop, the chance that it'll mess up your ability to love or your emotions....the chance that it'll erase that painful night...

Would it be so bad to just...forget?

The hope in your mind spoke a different thought, what if she'll come looking for you? What if she's looking for you now?

She could still want you? Can you still have your happy ending? Would you want your happy ending?

Even knowing that she didn't wait....there's nothing wrong with it, but some smaller part whispers that it was a betrayal.

The smaller part starts to grow in size as the darker thoughts take over, she doesn't want you, She never wanted you, she's happier without you, you're broken.

You cover your head with your pillow and scream, wishing the thoughts would stop, but they wouldn't.

The final thought was a nail in the proverbial coffin

She won't and never will look for you.

You don't realize it until you feel the dampness of the fabric, but you cried into your pillow

She's not looking for you,

you could still live,

she doesn't love you

She doesn't love you

She doesn't....

The thoughts were like a storm in your head, and you were lost at sea...

You hadn't wanted to take the procedure, but suffering till you died was not something you wanted... you wanted to live....and if she wasn't looking for you and she probably never will

Maybe you should just take the chance?

See who comes out on the other side when you're not lovestruck over the thought of a soulmate. When you're not heartbroken.....

So you go to a computer to research, looking up places that can do the medical procedure.

On the first flight home, you book a consultation and go through with it. The days leading up to the operation have you scared...what if she does come looking for you? She's not, your mind replies, but what if? There's no going back. The procedure is already paid for...

Parts of you are at war with each other on what to do. Some small part doesn't want to give up, but the part of you that wants to live fights on. Uncertain of how the procedure will even go, you take out a piece of paper, perhaps the last time you will find yourself writing to her...

When you finish writing, you put the final letter in the box and tuck the box away to the side.

Perhaps if she ever comes to find you, you'll be able to give it to her.

The day of the operation, you change into a hospital gown, wheeled into the operating room.

They place a mask on you, as the anesthesia takes your mind whilst the anesthesiologist tells you to count down from ten

6-

And the darkness takes you.

You do eventually awaken feeling fine, though unaware why you were there. Told you had to get surgery for something, after a couple of days to heal, you were set about on your life none the wiser to the reality of what you did.

Days later-

Tanya had finally found where your string led to, after having trusted her gut to go this way, something telling her to hurry along. Eventually, that call to hurry faded after a while. But she was close, she could feel it. When she finally arrived, she walked up to the doorstep and rang the bell.

Anticipation came off her in waves. There was no other way to say she was excited to finally, FINALLY meet you.

Opening the door showed you, a stranger, stunning at that. You were beautiful in her eyes. There was no denying it. She stood there stunned for a bit as you stole her breath away before she remembered she didn't need to breathe. Then her mind caught up to her remembering people didn’t like random people staring at them. She looked down at your hand and saw your strings connected. It was you! It was really you! She couldn't help but let the joy on her face show as she smiled at you.

You open the door to see someone standing there, you're not sure who she is, she stares at you for a good second like a computer program freezing until she breaks out of it and then she's smiling at you like she won something, you really don't feel anything but confusion as you look at her.

What does she want? Who was she?

You really weren't looking to be social today. You think back to your bed you just wanted to nap in.

Her voice breaks you out of your daydreaming thoughts

"Hello, I'm Tanya, I believe we're soulmates," she says with a smile.

Oh....she was your soulmate? ...you weren't sure what you were supposed to do with this information. You weren't sure how you....felt?

This is supposed to be exciting, right? Your other half? Something that's impossible for others, it seems...flattering you guess. All you could really do is give an awkward smile. What were you supposed to do? You felt like you couldn't emulate the emotions on your soulmates face. You were content before, you think? You'd just gotten out of the hospital after being sick with something. Now, here's a soulmate you're not sure how you feel about. It's like all emotions come to a blank when you look at her. You don't...feel anything when you look at her.

She looks on but then looks concerned at you. "Are you... not ecstatic to meet?"

Tanya had looked to your face to try and see how you were feeling at this revelation, hoping you were as ecstatic as she was, but all you gave her was a blank look. Perhaps you were shocked? The awkward smile to you looking at her felt....off... she would think you'd be more excited about this,

Asking you why you don't feel more....joy? At finally meeting. You look uncomfortable at the question, and that hurts. Did you not want her? Her mind starts to panic a little bit. Why? Why? You're soulmates... unless you were already with someone? Tanya isn't sure how she'd feel if her fated were with someone else... the simmering of jealousy made her feel conflicted. She tried to listen in to hear anyone else living in your home, but she could hear nothing. Some part of her settles just a bit, but still, the uncertainty is there. Why were you not as excited to meet her as she was you?

You move to ask if she would like to come in, not sure how to deal with this whole situation but not wanting it to happen on your doorstep. You make your way into your home.

Tanya can't help but take a breath, the scent of you intensifies as she walks inwards. This was your home. The walls decorated with pictures, the space cozy and lived in, were these little touches of things around yours?

Looking at the imagery, there were no consistent reoccurring figures. They all seemed friendly but not romantic, she calms at this. There was no one else.

You make your way over to the sofa and sit. Tanya sitting on the other end of the couch

The silence awkward. There was no way to break it.

You make to talk, introducing yourself. You owe her that at least telling her your name. She tests it out, saying your name. She then smiles again and tells you it's a cute name and it suits you.

Some part of you feels like you should feel...something, but you feel nothing... NOTHING. Here, your soulmate, who you see as pretty just stated as a fact, is flirting with you. But there's no uptick in the rhythm of your heart. You feel no joy, no flustered feelings. You give her a raised eyebrow alongside a confused look and say, "Uh... thanks?"

Tanya looks surprised for a second before confused. This was not the reaction she was expecting... no one ever really reacted like... how you did, not often at least, sometimes it's one in a million. Most people fell for her charms, yet here you were unaffected. She wasn't sure how to feel. Trying to make conversation to dispel the awkward tension, she asks what you've been up to recently.

You look over at her and contemplate telling her you really don't remember much. You knew you had photos on your phone of travels, and you remember seeing sights. But you're not really certain why you went on such trips to some places.

You decide to be honest, though. This was your soulmate. Even though you didn't really feel anything, perhaps keeping a friendly platonic friendship would ease this awkwardness.

You tell her that you recently went on a couple of trips, telling her you're not sure why. Perhaps it was just the spontaneity of it. You show her some pictures you took. She smiles at that. Telling you she had tried to find you but that the direction of the string was constantly changing until it stopped. You hear this but aren't sure what you feel. It's like there's a block on your emotions, perhaps not a block but a hole where some aspect of emotions must've sat, but now they're gone. You look at her and only say, "Oh, ok," and move on.

Tanya couldn't help but find that reaction weird. Something was wrong. This wasn't how it was supposed to go...

You tell her that you recently woke up in the hospital. Apparently, you had to do some sort of procedure. She looks concerned at that, asking if you're alright. You are, and a small part of you warms at her concern. Telling her you don't think it was anything big, but you don't really remember it. You do tell her you're tired, though, and that you'd been planning to nap before she arrived. She looks hesitant but nods and says she should probably go.

Tanya doesn't want to leave, but it's like there's no pull on you to her. She's entirely in your orbit, but it's like you feel no pull to her. It's confusing and kind of upsetting. The soulmate bond should want you to be around her, but here you are acting a polite acquaintance. It's not making sense, and it's starting to worry her.

In a moment of remembrance you move to get up, telling her you'd be right back you walk into your room and into your closet, pulling out from the closet a box labeled soulmate, you weren't sure when you had the time to do all these extra letters but you'd give them to her anyways.

She was finally here, so it was the perfect chance.

You walk out with a shoe box in your arms. Looking over at her, you bring it out and offer it to her. Tanya can see that the shoebox is old, in a childish scrawl on the top, it says to my soulmate. Her heart can't help but soar. You must feel something for her if this is something for her that you've held onto for years, no?

You tell her when you were younger you used to write letters to her. You're not sure how many times or when, but there seem to be quite a few letters. You say, handing the box over to her. She accepts it excited to see what you wrote, but then realizing again that she has to leave. She looks at you as you stand awkwardly and asks if she can hug you, you let her. For her, the hug is comfortable. Your scent is lovely, homey. She feels as if she's finally home. Whilst on the other end, you feel nothing. It's just a hug, but emotionally, you feel nothing towards it.

Despite not wanting to end the hug, Tanya does so. She looks to you and hopes to see something on your face when she says she'll be back to visit. You only blink and go OK. Perhaps you weren't an emotional person? Taking the box she makes to leave you, as you walk her to the door. Afterwards, she lingers until she hears your heart rate change, indicating you were asleep.

Tanya sped off to read the gift of these letters you had left her, unsure which one to start with. Eventually, she settles on the newest looking one. What she gets was not what she expected, though. The scent of dried blood stained the paper a bit. But the contents were worse.

"Dear soulmate,

I don't know if you'll ever come for me. If you'll ever see these words. The hanahaki is getting worse, and I don't know how long I'll live. My throat hurts from the damage of the petals and leaves, and sometimes it hurts to breathe.

I know that I promised you way back when as a child that I'd always love you, and I mean it, I always will. But I don't think you'll be waiting for me since that one time I saw you at the nightclub. You're probably happy living your own life. You wouldn't spare a thought for me. You're happy with him.

And I know it might be selfish of me to get the surgery to rid the hanahaki, but I want to live. I don't want to die.

If I live there's a chance you can see me and not a tombstone if you ever do come looking for me.

I've booked the time for the procedure to be done soon, I doubt you'll find me before it. I doubt that the stars will align or the fates will bring you to me.

I fear...I fear the loss of my emotions for you. The memories of you, though bad. I wanted to hold on, I wanted to stick around, but with the hanahaki, I don't think I'll stick around long enough. I'm tired of fighting. It hurts. I'm sorry, but know I'll always love you, and if you find me and I dont, I'm sure I can fall in love with you all over again.

I'm sorry I decided to go through with this, my love, my soulmate.

But I want to live."

There signed at the bottom your name. The paper was stained with small splatters as if you had a fit before you sealed it.

Tanya's mind couldn't help reeling at the info. You....you had hanahaki, you love her...

had loved her...

Knowing of hanahaki, she knew mortals tended to try and rid them. She had seen people lose the spark of who they once were with their procedures. Did the side effect do this to you? Was this why...was this why you acted like so? The love you had for her taken with the hanahaki?

Her mind couldn't help but go over everything. Of course she would come for you. How could you ever deny it? But who was this other you spoke of? There was no one else. There was only ever you, she's waited a millenia for you. She goes through previous letters written before this one, seeing letters you wrote on your trip attached with some photos. She couldn't help but smile at the care you had before. Her unbeating heart swelling and breaking, knowing the procedure changed you...

Finally, she gets to the letter. The night that you mentioned. She felt distraught that the cause of all this was because you had mistaken one of her flings as something more. It was her fault... the hanahaki was her fault. You suffered because of her.

You lost a part of you because of her...

You saved your own life believing she wouldn't come.

She couldn't help but regret. If she was only a little faster if she only listened to that feeling that told her to hurry up, perhaps she could've made it in time.

Perhaps if she came earlier and found you earlier, she could've made you see that she loved you and it could've all gone away. If only she was a little faster She could've stopped the procedure from happening, she could've still seen you as you, when the spark was still in you, when you still...when you still loved her. Her heartaches at the thought. You loved her, but now that love is gone.

Because of a stupid fling, because she was too late in finding you, too late to stopping you and trying to get you to see that she did love you, that she had waited for you...

You got rid of what was killing you, and with it, it took something that could not be replaced...

The thought hurt her chest. It ached at the reality of the situation.

She decided to try to stick around. After traveling home to pick some things up, she returned back to where you were. Deciding to rent a place for a bit. She wanted to know you. Some little part hoped that perhaps she could get you to love her, that you could fall for her again. So she visited you often, she got to know your schedule and what you do in your day to day life. Every time she visited, she hoped for some spark within your eyes, but it was always a neutral expression. It always hurt her a little more when her hopes were dashed. Every time she came around, you would treat her cordially. It was enough at first, but in her heart, she knew she wanted so much more with you. Something she knew you couldn't give her because of that stupid hanahaki. So with every time she visited and every time it felt like you held her at arms length, it broke her a little more. She often daydreamed that maybe something could be done. But there was nothing, and the life you two could've had together was just that, an unobtainable dream.

Her heart hurt at these thoughts, that you could never be with her how she wanted it to be, her chest hurt as her throat tickled not from the need to feed but something else as she then coughed and coughed like she was trying to wretch up human food she accidentally ate. Then, after a bit bringing her hand to her mouth, she coughed up a single daffodil petal

INVISIBLE STRING

a little red string

tied in a bow

for years it was my empty companion

hanging limp and slack

no matter my efforts

to pull and push

twisting and turning

i tried my very hardest to wrap around those i thought i loved most

and then i met you

and now everytime i see your smile

the tug on my heartstrings

mirrors the tug on my hand

the invisible string tying you to me

Strings

Summary: The Red String of Fate exists, and like only someone people in the world, you have the rare ability to see them- to change them.

Genre: Soulmates!Jungkook + angst-ish, (im sorry)

Word count: 7.5k

A/N : Hello! So this my attempt at a Soulmates!AU kill me now. This took me ages but now that this is out of the way, I can go back to writing Part IV of Neighbours! I hope you enjoy! I might do a Part II of this if people would like!

Part II

You had never believed in God.

You had never believed in the people that clasped their hands and fingers together in intercession or supplication prayers to the benevolent man who lived amongst the stars and rose with the sunrise and pulled the pomegranate pink and orange glows of a sunset at the wake of every horizon.

You didn’t believe in the man who smiled in the spectrum of rainbows to waterfalls and auroras and stormed in hurricanes and devastation when he raged. You didn’t believe in anything or second any thoughts to anyone else other than fate.

You had come to believe so religiously and so profoundly in destiny solely because you were sure that God simply could not be so cruel to grant you the life you had. You believed in fate because it hated you, spited you and things that caused hate existed far better than the things that didn’t.

Second favourite trope of all time would be "soulmates." I believe they exist. Actually, I know they exist (I'm muslim✨️). The thought of having somebody so infatuated with you. They will love every single thing about you. Being so fond of you. Caring for you, protecting you, being your home, and you being theirs. There would always be mutual respect and understanding.

Even the stories or legends in a culture about this trope give me goosebumps. For instance, I've always adored the "red string of fate" legend. Whenever it's insinuated in a show or a book, I become a wheezing mess.

P.S.: In Islam, it's very clear that soulmates exist. There is this verse in the Quran that says: "And We created you in pairs." How beautiful is that🥺 ???

So dear writer, when your lovers are described as "destined to be" in any way, shape, or form. Know that I'm screaming, giggling, kicking my feet, and just dying out here. XOXO 😘

Thanks for enjoying this Ted talk \(^^)/.
