I Have Absolutely No Idea What Disgusting Little Hole Of Pop Psychology Left Brain/right Brain Thinking
i have absolutely no idea what disgusting little hole of pop psychology left brain/right brain thinking crawled out of, but the only thing that infuriates me more is the whole ‘you only use 10% of your brain and if you use 100% you can read minds/fly/levitate objects’ thing.
makes me physically angry. may whoever came up with that shit step on a lego.
"left brain" "right brain" please stop excluding the rest of us who have absolutely no brain whatsoever

"Fawkes, like all phoenixes, is immortal," Dumbledore explained. "Every so often, he burns, and is reborn from the ashes."
Immortal? So there really is such a thing?
As if Dumbledore had sensed Tom's curiosity, he held a hand up to dissuade further questions.
"But that is not why I have asked you to come see me, Tom," he said. "You wish, I believe, to know about your father?"
"Yes," breathed Tom, leaning forward excitedly. Has he found something?
"I began teaching at Hogwarts in 1912," said Dumbledore, staring intently at Tom. "I cannot recall ever teaching another Tom Riddle, and I believe I would have had such a thing occurred."
"I take after my father, sir," said Tom, in a desperate attempt to jog his memory. "Mrs. Cole said so."
"Yes, I remember," said Dumbledore seriously. "I say this not to discourage you, Tom. It is quite possible that your father was older when he had you, or that he simply never attended Hogwarts. However, it is also possible that your father was not a wizard at all, and if so, I do not want you to feel disappointed. There is no shame in being Muggle-born — my mother was, in fact."
"I understand, sir," said Tom, though he thought privately that either Dumbledore didn't know what people really said about Muggle-borns, or he didn't care.
“I will ask you this once, Tom. Is there anything transpiring with your housemates that I should know about? Think carefully, before you answer."
Tom shifted under the intensity of Dumbledore's gaze, his hand going instinctively to cover his wrist, lest the scars peeked out from under his sleeve.
"No, nothing, sir," said Tom. The other boys wouldn't appreciate him being a grass, and if Dumbledore cared enough to do anything about it, they'd punish him again — perhaps carve 'Mudblood' on his forehead so that everyone could see.
Besides, he wasn't going to cower for much longer, once he found who they were. He'd push back. Fight.
In his mind's eye, Tom saw Billy's rabbit, dangling from a rope and slowly spinning in the morning light.
Yes, their time would come; slowly, but surely.
"I think it would be best if we continued these conversations, Tom," said Dumbledore. "If that is all, I will let you go now... Unless you have anything to tell me?"
"No, sir," said Tom, getting up from his chair. "Goodnight, Professor Dumbledore."
Why did Dumbledore call Tom into his office? What scars is he so concerned about hiding?

headcanon/opinion on what the opposite houses actually are and how Sorting actually works.
Claim: Slytherin and Hufflepuff are opposite Houses, and so are Gryffindor and Ravenclaw.
*insert shriek of confusion, because Gryffs and Slyths are canonically rivals*
But that's a surface level distinction.
Ambition, wit, bravery, and loyalty are NOT what set the Houses apart.
*ahem*
It's their approach to problem-solving.
Thus, I present my argument.
Proof:
Premise 1: When presented with a problem, Ravenclaws use their creativity to generate several solutions, no matter how long or convoluted the process is.
Gryffindors prioritize action over planning; and thus, they take the first actionable solution that comes to mind and stick with it.
Gryffindors make split-second decisions; Ravenclaws deliberate.
Example: Harry is often shown to be a remarkably quick thinker, even under times of extreme stress (the Department of Mysteries, the Battle of Hogwarts). Ron decides in POS to sacrifice himself pretty much on the spot. And yes, Hermione gets a lot of her ideas from books, but always comes up with a single course of action.
In contrast, I really can't think of a Ravenclaw making a firm decision in canon. The three most capricious characters (Luna Lovegood, Moaning Myrtle, and Gilderoy Lockhart) are all Ravenclaws. Coincidence? I think not.
On the other axis, you have Slytherins versus Hufflepuffs.
Premise 2: Slytherins prioritize themselves. They pick the solution that results in the most utility for them and what or who they care about most. How much they are willing to do relies solely on their innate moral compass.
In contrast, Hufflepuffs try to play fair and make the morally 'right' decision, sometimes even sacrificing their own well-being for the good of the whole.
Example: In HBP, Draco is tasked with killing Dumbledore. In order to keep himself and his parents safe, he attempts this from a distance several times and refuses help from Snape in order to maintain Voldemort's favor, until he is faced with killing Dumbledore face-to-face but cannot do so because the idea repulses him.
(Bonus: Tom Riddle kills Myrtle Warren in order to cheat death, his pathological fear. However, unlike Draco, he's morally bereft and happily goes through with it because it benefits him.)
In POA, Hufflepuff wins the Quidditch match, partially due to Harry falling off his broom due to the Dementors. Although Cedric would probably lose a rematch to Harry (who is the more skilled Seeker), he still suggests it because he feels it is the fair thing to do.
