Gwen May Have Forgiven Her Dad For Almost Shooting Her But There's No Way In Hell Hobie Did. Gwen Spent

Gwen may have forgiven her dad for almost shooting her but there's no way in hell Hobie did. Gwen spent months away from home, and she spent most of that time with him. Hobie probably held her while she cried about what happened. There's no way he didn't verbally annihilate George Stacy when he dropped off that watch. Hobie is smart enough to know that George regrets what happened, but he absolutely does not forgive him for it.

Listen maybe I'm projecting or maybe I'm right but it would be perfectly inline with Hobie Brown's character for him to be vehemently against corporal punishment. He's a critical thinker who has seen the decades of research, and in no world would he be okay with people in positions of power beating vulnerable people into submission. He'll call you out, too, and will physically intervene if he thinks it's necessary. No one lays hands on children in front of Big Brother Hobie.

Something I spend a lot of time thinking about is that no one in the Shadow and Bone fandom seems capable of comprehending that Baghra was an abusive piece of shit and The Darkling was even more so.

I've seen people talk about how Baghra's terrible parenting had a profound effect on The Darkling. I've heard people say that The Darkling was a terrible person and completely irredemable. Although I've never seen both statements mentioned relative to each other, both are equally true.

I've also seen people use Baghra's abuse to try and absolve The Darkling of responsibility. These people make it seem like it was inevitable that he groomed Alina, killed and tortured hundreds, orchestrated the conditions that led to Genya's abuse, and did countless other terible things. It was not.

Baghra absolutely abused Alexandr. She absolutely was a terrible person. But she didn't make her son do anything. Every choice The Darkling made was his own.

Also, the people who talk about Baghra's cruelty only ever mention Alexandr. They never mention the countless other children she physically and verbally abused.

None of those children grew up to be war criminals, though they were victims just as much as Alexandr. Being abused doesn't make you make you abuse other people. It's your choices that do.

At the end of the day, Baghra Morozova was a terrible, horrible, abusive piece of shit. But The Darkling was worse than her in every way.

In a world where there were no school shootings and teachers were paid well and Gen Alpha weren't a holy terror (through no fault of their own) I would love to be a preschool teacher. Maybe in another world those problems don't bother me and I'm teaching colors to adorable toddlers who call me Miss Via and love me.

It actually horrifies how normalized it is to ground children. And I'm not saying there's not a time and place for it, that being when it correlates to the offense. Natural consequences are great tecahing tools. I am saying that I find it disturbing how so often a parent's first instinct is to isolate their child from their support system whenever that child displeases them. And if that doesn't satisfy them, they'll take away anything they can think of that makes their child happy. Usually that's an electronic, since a kid can use that to contact their support system. I've been grounded and had my phone taken a few times. It only made me resent my parents more. It didn't teach me anything except how to take my phone back, hide it well, and replace it the day before I was set to get it back. My parents still don't know I did that.
