#TBT to that time when I really took off on assignment while at #MRU Broadcasting School & for @sbnation's #WakingTheRed in LA-LA Land, and to perhaps one of @torontofc's finest moments until this year. The Southern California sun: Talkin' footy over chicken & waffles to @kaylaknapp_, @grnrngr80 & @josiebeckerfc before Kayla & Josie became super uber big name soccer writers. Hanging w/ @asifintoronto pitch side at (the then) Home Depot Centre before #TFC's eventual 4-3 aggregate triumph in the 2012 CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals. (Okay, or maybe Asif kinda ignored me, he was the pro and I was the overawed student journo.) Being in the press box in LA while Duncan, @armenjbx, Kristin, Dave and @grawsee were back at WTR Central in Toronto. And writing what was probably the most satisfying match report I had ever filed. And then returning home to Calgary to finish a TV news report for the match. But alas my journalism days are behind me now; my cooking days are ahead of me. Maybe someday I can combine the two again. Plate 3 @eatforeign: Mackerel "ca kho to", with daikon, shishito pepper and rice cake, served with coconut rice. This is a Vietnamese classic through and through, and punched up it looked and tasted amazing. Caramelized fish sauce smothered over a massive Mackerel filet. Plate 4 @eatforeign: Vietnamese coffee parfait. Like a tiramisu but even better. Strong coffee and chocolate flavours, with a bit of sweetness, just like how a ca phe sua da should be (although I do take my Viet coffee on the sweeter side).
