After a long work week, it's time for three #ChefApprenticesDayOff. Late (very late) lunch today @crossroadsmarketyyc... @EatsofAsia'a house specialty red curry & crab paste pork on ramen noodles, with a Mexican Coke. Finished off with a @burnt_to_order Bowie crème brûlée (not pictured, too much goodness, must devour on sight.) It's good stuff, (and I'm not being facetious) you seriously should consider checking it out if you haven't. Seriously, I can't say that enough. #ChefApprenticeLife #yycfood #yyc
After being tortured ALL WEEKEND (thank you very much everybody...) with pictures from @eatforeign, it's time for me to put out a few. Dining alone tonight, and starting off with a salmon fresh roll. Yuzu cured salmon, crème fraîche, gochujang. Really nice way to open...salmon actually has a good note of Yuzu, but not overpowering. Plate 3 @eatforeign: Mackerel "ca kho to", with daikon, shishito pepper and rice cake, served with coconut rice. This is a Vietnamese classic through and through, and punched up it looked and tasted amazing. Caramelized fish sauce smothered over a massive Mackerel filet. Plate 4 @eatforeign: Vietnamese coffee parfait. Like a tiramisu but even better. Strong coffee and chocolate flavours, with a bit of sweetness, just like how a ca phe sua da should be (although I do take my Viet coffee on the sweeter side). Plate 5 @eatforeign: ...when you can have another dessert? Passion fruit pavlova, coconut tapioca pudding. Compared to the coffee parfait I think I like this one better. I've always had a weakness for cold coconut tapioca soup for dessert. This just makes it even better. Chicken tortilla soup for lunch today @charbar_yyc When life hands you a lemon you better make that metaphorical lemonade. And when you have seasoned chicken stew... Although according to some of our lunch diners it was "too much stuff". TBH, I've never heard anyone say a soup had too much stuff. This is truly a first! Nevertheless, delicious.
