I'll like to think that Mario would be the third in Bowser and Luigi's relationship. Not because he wants it's because he wants to protect him if anything happen. Imagine he just laying in the third wheel bed waiting for them:

There’s the age old question of who Bowser Jr.’s mother is, but an answer already exists.
Sexual reproduction doesn’t exist in the Mario universe. Canonically, babies are delivered by the stork.
Jr. doesn’t have a mother; Bowser just really wanted a son, and so the stork brought him one. End of story.

in actuality bowser doesnt keep peach locked up the whole time, he just does it as soon as mario’s there- they are simply putting on a show! in reality its all a stunt to make it look like bowser doesnt have a bit fat crush on luigi. (this is what bows and peach talk bout’ in the downtime) sometimes during these staged kidnappings they jus like- go out shopping or some fun stuffs like that till they round their way back 2 the castle

someone needs to contact a member of illumination/anyone who worked on the mario movie and ask them if they meant to make bowser and luigi have intense sexual tension because,,
