saw a post where someone fundamentally misunderstood bra sizes so i wanted to help clarify
a common misconception about cup size is that a DD is just the size of a boob. however, the way it actually works is that cup size is a relative measurement.
the first measurement you need is the measurement all the way around your ribcage, right below your tibbies and this measurement is the band size. the second measurement you need is the measurement around your chest where your tibbies stick out the most and this is called the bust measurement.
the difference between the band measurement and the bust measurement determines your cup size where AAA is a difference of zero inches and a G is a difference of 6 inches.
THIS SYSTEM IS INCREDIBLY CONFUSING!!! and it often leads to a lot of people not understanding which bras they need!
this is why a lot of people get mixed up when someone has a size of 34DD vs 44DD because they are comparing two entirely different body types that happen to have the same cup size in name only.

As a trans man I am not able to bind and this is because of personal reasons and not really having support of my family. I've been seeing a lot of posts about how to safely bind and this is a good thing and it really warms my heart that people are able to share this knowledge to prevent others from getting hurt, but something that wasn't told to me is that you can get hurt from regular bras. For the past for 5 1/2 years I've been dealing with a pain in my chest and my ribs from having bras that were too tight, that weren't the right size and my body had to suffer the consequences. I will always have this pain, it'll always be there and it's the same thing that everyone warns other trans or non binary people about. With unsafe binding it's the same thing and I can't help but think that maybe it was my own fault because I never took my bras off. I never gave my chest the time to breathe and I still don't because I live in a house with older brothers and it's just I don't, I don't feel right because even though I'm the trans man I have big boobs. so what I'm saying is, there consequences and wearing a bra 24/7 isn't healthy. I wish someone had told me, I wish someone had helped me, but I had no one to help me get through it in now my body is permanently damaged. The doctors thought that I was lying about the pain in my chest about the excruciating, burning sensation that I feel when I sit up straight for too long, and this has affected my life. I feel like this isn't something a lit of people know about. And it's dangerous for the same reason unsafe binding is. So please if you've read this, share it? This isn't just about trans and non-binary people. Women can be affected by this as well.
TL;DR Bras can cause the same damage as unsafe binding, and no one talks about it?
